The concept of this pool sounds great, but since a good portion of the pool appears to not be using the auto feature, wouldn't the use of PPLNS cause miners to lose money since they are bouncing around from coin to coin?  It seems like this would be much better implemented using PPS.

Let me give you an example of the bouncing effect.

ARG network hash rate  was a low 10kH/s, at block 54,501,  so the difficulty dropped, as it does every 250 blocks, this time from 0.85 to 0.2 this made ARG jump up to just over 600% profitability, which made multipool.in hop and suddenly add over 320kH/s to the hash rate,  an increase of 3,000% plus whatever other pool hoppers elsewhere did. Since the next 250 ARG blocks were found in minutes, the difficulty jumped back up to 0.85, multipool pool bounced again, leaving ARG with a network hash rate of around 17kH/s currently, and a block time of many minutes instead of the 32sec the coins difficulty target is designed for. This is not fair on the supporters of ARG.

The same thing happens with MNC and LKY, in fact this is the main characteristic of those coins that makes them attractive for Multipool to mine.  The people holding the coin shouldn't worry because they aren't trying to sell it (right?) so they don't need the fast transactions anyway.  If any one of these coins really takes off, the network hashrate should dwarf multipool anyway.
1502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MultiCoin][Stratum+GW] multipool.in - Always mine the most profitable coin on: July 13, 2013, 11:52:26 PM
I am curious what the theory is behind after I get the coins, is it more profitable to sell them as soon as I acquire them or hold on to them?

On one hand, you can make sure that you get the profits from whatever coin your mining if you sell right away, but on the other, waiting can allow the value to increase or also decrease and the coin can die.  I was just wondering if anyone else had any insight or theory about holding vs selling right away.

Pools like this one should be avoided or banned because they are a kick in the face to the early adopters/ supporters of the coins targeted.

This also creates alot of extra work trying to sell alts that no one, besides the exchange bots, will want to buy. By the time your coins will have confirmed, the well timed pump will have long been dumped and the miner will make a fraction of what was expected.

HT xD

Who do you propose would ban those pools? Government? Community? How do you propose they do so? It is a free market here: If a coin cannot handle sudden influx of hash power, may be it should not exist at the first place. Most of those coins do not bring anything to the table other than making few creators some money - they are just attempts to clone good and established currencies such as BTC and LTC, nothing more. I, as a free market player vote with my hash power switching to the most profitable pool to bring those coins down for good.

From what I'm seeing.. it artificially props them up, thanks to the high earning potential percentages reported by sites like Coinchoose. If a new coin is to survive, let the commutity decide and not some random pool operator.

Noobs with P&D trading bots does not constitue a free market. The MEM dump and devaluation is a prime example.

Its not that the network can't handle the influx. Its the higher (and sometimes too high) difficulty that the early adopters are left to deal with once 'the hoard' moves on. The potential for a coin to get 51'd is also a concern.

HT xD

If anything we reduce the value of those coins because our members are (for the most part) looking to maximize profit, not true believers of some coin looking to mine and hold.  So most of these coins are being dumped as soon as they are mined.

I figured something like this would be said eventually.  Look, the fact is that people are already coin hopping manually or by other means (cryptoswitcher, etc.)

If the coin developers don't like people hopping on and off their coin, they should take steps to stabilize the difficulty.  Some coins have done this with varying amounts of success.  I am under no obligation to help 'early adopters' of any coin make money.  I am also under no obligation to provide infrastructure to coin developers without any compensation.

I have put a lot of work into this pool (practically all my free time since April), and I am spending my own time and money to provide an extremely stable and reliable infrastructure.  If I add a coin to my pool it will be under my terms and nobody else's.  If the ARG, LKY or PXC or any other heavily premined altcoin developers want me to add a general use pool for their coin or open up their coin's port for direct mining they can contact me and maybe we can arrange something.

Also the reason why you didn't get an e-mail is because after he finalizes the list, all the latecomers will not be dealt with so he can keep the remaining balance.

You know that thought has crossed my mind more than once in the past few days. The longer he drags this thing out, the more people there are who will forget about their money, especially people who are owed $100 or less, I can imagine I'd have written it off by now if I wasn't waiting on several thousand dollars. But if you add up all those small-value accounts it probably amounts to a nice little chunk of change that will be sitting unclaimed after all this is through. And I would even bet that it has been factored into the agreement with IAFCU that they maybe get a slice of the leftovers as well, plus they get a ton of potential new customers for their credit union too.

That's actually illegal, I believe; if the bank is complying with the law the money would have to go into unclaimed funds for the state the depositor is in.

Not sure about international depositors, though.
1506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][Multi-Coin][Stratum] multipool.in - Always Mine the most profitable coin on: July 12, 2013, 11:40:07 PM
Hello all, I have a PPLNS and multipool:7777 question. PPLNS is designed so miners have to mine a specific coin for an extended period of time to be profitable. However, when using port 7777 the coin being mined is constantly changing. How can this be profitable ? It actually sounds like the least profitable method if constantly switching. Am I missing something ? Thanks.

PPLNS is actually designed so that miners who mined closer to when a block is found are paid, avoiding the problem of pool hopping where people hop on to mine right after a block is found (which would be the beginning of a new round with a proportional system).

We use time-based PPLNS which I feel is a good compromise that helps the dedicated coin miners share rewards equitably with the port 7777 miners.  On the faster coins the time is set very low, so the multiport miners won't continue getting paid for very long after hopping off a coin, and they also won't take too much of the dedicated miners' rewards if a block is found shortly after the multiport hops to that coin. It also ensures that on the longer coins, people who have been mining on a coin within the past X hours will get paid for their efforts and not have their shares thrown out of the round due to the multiport submitting tons of shares.

I could change the multiport-only coins to a Proportional system, but that might result in some people not getting paid for some blocks, since on the really fast coins sometimes we find blocks within seconds of each other and there might not even be enough time for everyone mining to submit even 1 share.  It would also add complexity to pay different coins using different systems.

OK let me ask this then: Concerning payouts, is there any advantage or disadvantage concerning multipool users vs. dedicated users, or does it basically work out the same in the long run (i.e same profits either way assuming a dedicated miner mined the same coins at the same time) ?

Well, the idea is to not give an advantage to either group.  I don't have any math to give you, I tried to set reasonable time periods based on the average block time for each coin.

I upped the connection timeout on the load balancer to 20 minutes (it was set to 30 seconds) about a half a hour ago.

Can you let me know if things have gotten any better?
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: How to mine TRC on: July 12, 2013, 08:16:07 PM
All my 7970s are mining MultiPort and my rejection rates are 0.39% or lower. Great job!!!

But, I can't get my 5970s to mine scrypt to save my life. I pointed them to TRC but all I get are stratum disconnects. Any suggestions on how to mine TRC with 5970s would be greatly appreciated. TIA
My batch file:
cgminer.exe -c MultiPool_Miner_2_TRC.conf
pause
exit

There are some issues right now on the TRC pool..  I haven't tracked them down yet.  It seems like some people are having issues and some aren't.  If you could send me your logs that would be helpful.

Looks like the WDC hot wallet is low.

It was for a while, it's ok now.

I just switched to a new WDC wallet because the old one was approaching 50MB.  Doing the same for DGC and MNC shortly.

The changes to the stratum code have been fully rolled out to all pools.  You should no longer be seeing random disconnects (with shares lost) or "MySQL server has gone away".  (unless there really is a bad MySQL issue).  Please report either of these to me if you see them.

Don't worry about disconnects without shares lost, however.  It's probably just me restarting a pool server and you being redirected to another one via the load balancer.

It appears that several orphaned DGC blocks were paid out mistakenly.  This is likely due to the blocks being fully confirmed (DGC only requires 5 confirmations) and then orphaned.  There are also some blocks stuck in unconfirmed state from where this has happened on other currencies.

To prevent this from happening again, I have instituted the following changes:

1. Blocks from all currencies will no longer be scored until they reach 10 confirmations
2. DGC blocks will now be paid out after 40 confirmations.

Kind of a newbie question regarding multiport mining.  I noticed it switched from MNC to FTC.

FTC average block time is currently 15mins, forgot what MNC's was, but it would obviously be less on average.

Does the pool wait until at least one block is solved before going on to the next cryptocoin?   If the answer is yes,
does it then quit if say 2 hours pass and it doesn't find anything, especially if there's something a lot more juicy to mine?

What ryen said.  There is a minimum time to stay on each coin, but it's mainly to prevent 'flapping' every minute between 2 coins that are close in price.
1514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MultiCoin][Stratum+GW] multipool.in - Always mine the most profitable coin on: July 12, 2013, 05:57:58 AM
What about payment for ARG blocks

They were paid, the detailed payout data didn't make it into the DB due to a technical issue.
1515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MultiCoin][Stratum+GW] multipool.in - Always mine the most profitable coin on: July 12, 2013, 05:25:48 AM
So I looked at the stratum code today and cleaned it up a little.  Added automatic DB reconnect, fixed the worker name checking code, and took out some unused code. I am beta testing the new code on the mnc port (hi ISAWHIM, underlmr)

The "real" test will be the next time the multiport switches..  So please let me know if you see any issues.

For those of you dissing on the multiport, I made over 0.05 BTC last night just on PXC.  That's almost a full day's worth of what dustcoin says that I should be making if I was mining LTC directly, in about 10 hours.

Anyway, I'm taking a little break from multipool today after working on it for 20 hours straight yesterday.  I'll keep an eye on the switching, but other than that I will address any other issues tonight or tomorrow.

I diss on it constantly, but I hang around so I can give you all hell for mining coin-of-the-day bullshit!

Ahh but in a pool is not mining directly is it. If the pool was mining LTC directly I doubt we would be going 30Hrs w/out finding a block. No way any miner is efficient switching coins constantly.

It's all cool, not my pool, I'm good with however Flound sets it. He's the reason I stay instead of going to a LTC only. He does what he say's he'll do.. that's huge compared to most.

Be well.
T.

I try...

I think the direct mining ports for LKY, ARG, and PXC should be re-enabled. When the pool is not on those coins there is no way to redeem the round shares you have accumulated for them as no blocks are being found.

Blocks are found so fast when the multiport is on those coins that your shares will have been paid out several times before the multiport moves off.  Mining more will also not prevent your old shares from falling off.  There's really no reason to include shares from a previous multiport mining session in the next session, with these fast coins.

(yeah I said I wasn't going to be here today..  see how well that worked out)

Yep.  You'd have to be out of your mind to hold anything at Gox right now.
