1521  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2017, 11:58:26 PM
Also, if you have 12BTC on a software wallet my advice inmediately changes to: Buy a hardware wallet NOW!
What's wrong with a software wallet? Mine is password protected, stored in a veracrypt volume, which is stored on my encrypted /home partition, and included in several backups stored in different air-gaped locations and only ever connected one at a time. (and most importantly, I'm not running a toy operating system.)

The problem is increasingly sophisticated bitcoin malware. One guy on reddit last week lost 16 bitcoin from Bitcoin Core that was password protected. His hygiene may not have been as good as yours but your password is briefly vulnerable when you open your wallet. Hardware wallets are cheap now.

Poloniex does not have fiat pairs look to Kraken instead.
1523  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: anyone else experiencing very long wait bitcoin transaction confirmation? on: May 07, 2017, 05:31:44 PM
update viabtc worked for me, confirmation finally came through, payment completed after 4days. wow btc wtf! why do we have to go through all this stress just to make a payment. @everyone else thanks for your advise. in case of next time how do I set my electrum wallet to make sure the fees are enough for quick confirmation?

Upgrade to latest Electrum 2.8.2. Make sure under tools > preferences dynamic fees and replace by fee are enabled with a checkmark. When you send move the fee slider to high and also put a check mark in box labeled 'replaceable'. It would be unusual for a transaction with a high fee to take longer than a few hours to confirm, but if you send replaceable you can always click on the transaction and bump the fee up.
1524  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: May 06, 2017, 07:52:40 PM
Hi guys, I'd like to a have a clarification about Electrum: what do I exactly need to restore a wallet, besides the seed? Because some people say I only need the seed, other people say also a backup and the private key...  Huh

All you need is the seed but be careful as the format changed with Electrum 2.x

0.31 BTC may be a higher serial number but condition looks really excellent
1526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 06, 2017, 01:54:32 AM
Good question. There is no hardware wallet for Monero yet. If you want to use the GUI just use a strong password and set up by the guide here. It would be great if there were a way to do cold storage with two computers like we used to do with Armory before Trezor came out.

It is already possible to do cold storage signing of transactions with monero-wallet-cli AND the new GUI beta 2. However this is a new feature and there is little to no documentation on how to do so, apart from some guides on monero stackexchange. I'll see if I can put a quick guide together over the weekend (for GUI. anyone motivated enough to use cli these days should be able to figure it out).

Hey thanks! That would be great. I have been playing around with the GUI beta 2 and have not been able to figure out the right procedure for cold storage.

1528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Any recommendations for Bitcoin payment system for website ? on: May 05, 2017, 08:03:49 PM
Hello,

I'm a newbie and wanted to thank you all for the wonderfull and interesting information on this very interesting forum!

My Question :

I'm looking for plugin recommendations for Bitcoin payment system on websites ?
I need compatiblility with Wordpress / Woocommerce and should be working alongside existing payment system.
Of course it should be safe and easy to use...

Which one would you recommend and why ?

Thanks in advance !
Jax

Deciding to use WooCommerce was a smart choice. You have more options to accept bitcoin on that platform than any other. Just Google 'bitcoin payments and WooCommerce'. One notable option is CoinSimple which lets you sell for bitcoin in WooCommerce and send payments directly to Electrum or a hardware wallet like Ledger Nano S.
1529  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent Bitcoins from Electrum to a Coin Mixer - "LOW FEE" Problem!! on: May 05, 2017, 04:58:43 PM
Thank you, you are my hero !! Now I know how i can do it next time !!
Now my last question is: What do I do with this (stuck) transaction, can i just "delete" it and get my money back on my electrum wallet or how can i fix it? Smiley

No you can not delete it. Click on the transaction in question so you can look at it in a block explorer. Copy the transaction ID and paste it into the ViaBTC accelerator and they will include it in the next block they mine. They only accept a limited number of txids an hour so you may need to keep trying.
1530  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent Bitcoins from Electrum to a Coin Mixer - "LOW FEE" Problem!! on: May 05, 2017, 04:36:23 PM
Go to Tools > Preferences at top of Electrum. Under Fees tab put a check mark next to 'use dynamic fees' and also next to 'enable replace-by-fee'. While you are setting preferences go to appearance and set base unit to BTC. Now when you send a transaction move the fee slider to high and also put a check mark next to 'replaceable'. With the high fee setting your transaction should go through no problem. If you don't have a confirmation in an hour just click on the transaction and bump the fee up. It is also a good idea to read the Electrum user manual so you know what you are doing with your expensive bitcoin.

The ViaBTC tool is at https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/ just follow instructions.

By the way mixers no longer work. See this reddit thread for an overview.
1531  Economy / Speculation / Re: YORK's price prediction topic. on: May 04, 2017, 07:56:14 PM
If you can't handle $200 to $300 price drops stay away from bitcoin. In a bull market you should look at a $250 price drop as a buying opportunity.
1532  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum transaction stuck due to low fee. Tried almost every solution i found. on: May 04, 2017, 06:45:21 PM
Quit using low fees. Use the latest Electrum and use the high fee option when asked, also mark all new transactions as replaceable so if you go cheap on the fee you can bump it up later. Right now you might have to pay btc.com to push this transaction.
1533  Economy / Speculation / Re: This bubble will pop big on: May 04, 2017, 06:28:10 PM
Here are the Fibonacci extensions based on Bitstamp data.

We are not far from the first extension level of $1800. At that point you could well expect a 23% to 38% correction before heading up to the next extension at $2800. If price goes parabolic $3800 is not out of the question. Though not on the chart the next extension past $3808 is $4433. Historically the first and second Fibonacci extensions tend to be pretty accurate, the higher extensions less so. You might want to take some profits at around $1800 with the objective of buying back in lower after a correction.
1534  Economy / Speculation / Re: This bubble will pop big on: May 04, 2017, 06:15:20 PM
Nice rise here and careful now the bubble will pop nice and quick as well.

Take profits while you can or HODL?

Most likely this is a bit of a bubble. At some point, we will probably have a drop in price but there's no way to know how far the drop will be unfortunately.

No way to know for certain but traders will have bids in at the first two Fibonacci retrace levels. That means the sexy buy zone ATM is $1057 to $1270. Just redraw the chart for a new ATH.

Except for those who bought in the past day or so everyone who has just bought and held bitcoin for years is in profit. Some who bought at the last ATH had to wait a few years which did take nerve, but lesson learned. I think new bitcoin investors are finally learning to ignore the talking heads, just put their bitcoin in cold storage and hold for the future. Vinny is particular was responsible for many selling prematurely and has no credibility left.
1537  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: genisis mining = fraud? on: May 02, 2017, 10:02:45 PM
Did you use the customer service link at the Genesis Mining website to see what the problem is? Genesis Mining is legitimate; just has never been a very good deal with the high fees they charge.
1538  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SMART Miner 3.0 Ultimate Rack Mount 50TH/s Bitcoin Miner on: May 02, 2017, 06:56:01 PM
Ok, thx Do you know a good miner to buy then?

The only one to buy is the miner that is most efficient at turning power into bitcoin which is Antminer T9 at the moment. Question is how much do you pay for
kWh? That miner uses 1200 watts which means a dedicated circuit.

1540  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Compromised seed ? on: April 30, 2017, 11:52:29 PM
Most hardware wallets also have the option to create new accounts using a passphrase. The passphrase acts as an extra word for the seed. This is an interesting option as the addresses for the passphrase protected accounts can not be generated from the seed alone. In theory if you can remember a passphrase (and trust your memory) you can leave the seed in the open.
