1541  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How low transactions fees could go? on: March 02, 2018, 06:13:01 PM
Transaction fees could reach as low as 0.5sat/byte but who will accept it and include them in block. If a miner doesn't get any incentive for the work he does, then why should he include your transaction in the block. Once if LN strikes, fees could get lower as the transactions could occur off-chain.

Very few people or only people connected with crypto know about the segwits and their uses, how does it work etc, which indicates that people just uses ordinary address and pays for the fees unless these segwits become so popular and ordinary people adopt to segwit.
Fees will never become lower unless people adopt themselves to segwits, LN and other new technologies which takes place in the btc world.
1542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to create a segwit wallet on: March 01, 2018, 06:24:59 PM
Segwit addresses are nothing but soft fork which solves the long debated scalability and malleability issue of the bitcoin. They just segregates or takes away the signature out of the transaction data, so that the signatures can't be changed at a later time to prevent the losing or stealing of btc. By this way a size of the transaction becomes lower and hence more transactions can be filled inside a block and increasing the transaction speed and there by reducing the fees.
Many of the wallets are opting for segwit day by day and the latest one being the Core wallet.

Wallets which support segwit addresses:

Hardware Wallets:
Hardware wallets has been a great deal of storage for people using cryptos. Nano Ledger and Trezor are the best wallets out there to store your crypto assets safely and first and quick in implementing newer stuffs. Not only they support segwits, they also allow you to change the fees of satoshis/byte.

Desktop Wallets:
When coming to desktop wallets, the best one will be the classic core wallet. But Core adopted segwit just this week and it is pretty new. You can also use Electrum for segwit supports, as they adopted segwits prior to core. Just go the official Core/Electrum website and download the latest version and set up the wallet.

Web/Mobile Wallets:
Green Address and Greenbits has been an early adopter of segwit and they are really secure. Greenbits was the first mobile wallet to implement segwit and if you need to try web wallet, go for Green Address.

Paper Wallets:
The classic way of storing coins in earlier days were Paper. If you are a paper wallet user, reach out for segwitaddress.org where you can create your own segwit wallet.

1544  Economy / Services / Re: TRADE: sMerit for Info on: February 27, 2018, 06:31:30 PM
Qtum is really a good project which has a price of about 28$ per coin and has a circulating supply of 73 million. But, a new cryptocurrency named APIS found a new error in the qtum core wallet. APIS conducted a presale for their token and there were many failed transactions from people.

The presale was executed through smart contract on top of QTUM chain. On competitive token sales, some participants exorbitantly raise their transaction fees to participate as priorities are given to transactions with higher transaction fees. This would effectively eliminate the likelyhood of small-capped investors to participate, so APIS decided to set a certain transaction fee(gas) limit for all participants.

After the beginning of the presale, however, various participants reported that they cannot get into the presale.

APIS development team conducted an emergency review of the transactions being sent, and found that many failed transactions had their gas prices arbitrarily set at 69.
The share of failed transactions with their gas prices set at 69 was a staggering 53% of the total transactions, providing sufficient reasons to suspect Qtum system error.

After the presale, APIS team coordinated with other IT professionals to analyze the incident, and came to the conclusion that it was indeed a QTUM core wallet error. This conclusion was summarily delivered to QTUM foundation, whom were able to confirm that the gas price was changed from 70 to 69 due to MINGW32 complier problem. APIS had to end its presale early without selling all of its available tokens due to this error. The error has been fixed since, and Qtum's acknowledgement can be seen on the Qtum Github.

1545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exodus backup link not working on: February 27, 2018, 04:35:18 PM
I had a similar issue like yours and I too lost my paraphrase. I just did a new clean install of the latest version exodus wallet in my PC and when I opened the new wallet the balance was 0$. Just a difference was I installed the new wallet in a new computer. I just closed my wallet and opened my mail and clicked on my backup link which was sent to me when I made a backup of my old wallet.
Once when I clicked my backup link, the new wallet popped up and I was asked to enter the password which I stored sometime in my old wallet. After I entered the password the funds from my old wallet was restored within minutes.
This was the same procedure which was mentioned in the website and I got them right. Retry the process and see if it succeeds.
1546  Other / Off-topic / Re: Awarding Merit for quality posts on: February 26, 2018, 03:23:05 PM
I have given Merit for this post. It was a good writing and will be helpful to many people who are new to the forum and getting scammed by lots of bad users around here. You could have posted the thread in Beginners thread or try to move them to the Beginners section and bump the thread so that newbies could read them and be aware.

Really very great informative thread which must be Merited for sure. Even though you have taken reference for posting, its sad many top members didn't give a merit for you.

You guys have really wasted such useful threads by posting in Shitty Bitcoin Discussion Thread which is filled with full of spam messages. My kind request is to move them to Beginners section and bump the threads so that newbies could read.

I could have given both of your posts a merit. But since I need to offer Merit for everyone I awarded only to 1. The post which you gave advice for newbie was really helpful and was really good and simple English.

I suggest eveyone who I have mentioned above to visit the bill gator merit sharing thread and share your posts. He helps everyone and gives merit for top quality posts. I suggest every senior member to share their merits, keeping merits with yourself is useless and may decay over time.
1547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error opening block database on: February 26, 2018, 02:33:08 PM
When this problem arrives:

1. Your HDD might be full
2. You may be using a very old indexed drive (Try reindex the drive)

You can change your blockchain default drive location by first locating your blockchain directory. This could be found in the /Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/. Copy the directory folder and and paste it in another drive which is free and then right click and go to properties and paste the code in Target.

Quote
-datadir=your drive name:\BitCoin

Now you can restart your wallet and everything will be fine. Smiley
1548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When do you expect cryptos to be as convenient to use as FIAT? on: February 26, 2018, 02:16:40 PM
Cryptocurrency was invented to not use as a investment or to do trading but to use them instead of fiat money. Due to the increase in its popularity the price of bitcoin and other crypto's grew over time and its too high and due to its high volatile nature it was used for trading and investment and very few people use them for transactions between them. This must be changed and it should be used in normal places.

In most of the areas in the world cryptocurrencies are not yet been known and people must learn how cryptos are working and we must create awareness among the common people. If these are done, they will be known by most people and we can start using them in common places.
Foremost the coin must be stabilized in the price and it must not be volatile. For these to become it would take atleast 5 years from now and it may be around 2025 for them to be used in common places.
1549  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Where Trusted Place To buy Bitcointalk account? on: February 25, 2018, 05:49:44 PM
Try to farm up your own account. According to forum rules Account sales are discouraged and you will end up in red trust. If you start from the very beginning you will try to be more constructive in your posts and you will not become a spammer and you will learn more about the forum rules and regulations. If you buy higher accounts, you doesn't know the value of the account and you end up being a spammer and you will result in a negative trust from a senior member for violating the rules of the forum and you might even get banned. Sometimes the account sold to you might have indulged in any illegal activities and would have got huge red trust or might have been a hacked account. Hence try to post and farm up your own account to a senior member and be helpful to the community
1550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Accessing Byteball with Tor? on: February 25, 2018, 03:42:20 PM
Are you asking for accessing byteball with desktop or android?

If you are asking with desktop, you can use the built-in tor switch present in the wallet itself.
If you still can't figure it out, go to settings in desktop app and switch to tor network. This is the safest way to access your wallet without getting traced.

If you are asking with android, go to the Orbot app and tick the "Apps VPN mode" and tick the byteball app. So that when you open the app you will get connected to tor network automatically.
1551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you run out of gas? Eth failed transaction question on: February 24, 2018, 03:13:00 PM
This guy could have had no experience in transacting his eth before. For a normal transaction to be carried out in ethereum blockchain the total amount of gas will cost around 21000. While creating a smart contract more gas volume will be required. For instance while creating smart contract for handling Omise go costed around 1197000 gas. Indeed a huge volume which means more complex a transaction is, the more gas we need to use up for transacting.

A transaction could fail when Transaction gas volume exceeds the block gas limit. But in this case it was a complex transaction which required huge gas and that 21000 gas was not sufficient for the transaction to complete. He should have used 20gwei as price per gas and should have used very high gas volume which could have made the transaction pass.

You may not end up in such a situation as high gas volume are very rare and if you are doing a normal transaction just use 21000 gas and 20gwei gas price for it to conform. The base theory of ethereum transaction is similar to a taxi ride you are going mate. If you need to travel longer distances use higher fuel how complex the route might be. Our routes are simple mate which require 21000 gas so don't worry.
Hope this answer helps
1552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: iOS wallet? on: February 24, 2018, 10:24:10 AM
Coinbase is not a wallet to store your cryptos there. It's a exchange were you don't have control over your funds and if coinbase sees that you are indulging in any malpractice they will surely cancel the wallet in a go and all your funds will be lost.
Hence if you are a iPhone user you should be using breadwallet, as they are SPV clients and they directly connect to the bitcoin network and hence it's really safe that you are not being subjected to hacking. But fees are a little higher in bread.

You could even try greenaddress as they support segwit and your transfer fees is too low.

When you go with mycelium they too provide the best security out there for your coins and your funds never leave your mobile unless you back them up. This wallet never reuses the address and they too support BIP38 keys.
You can go with either mycelium or greenaddress, but the most secure for funds is mycelium.
1553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At what point does mining stop? on: February 24, 2018, 04:41:30 AM
Mining of coins will continue until the block reward is as low as 1 satoshi. Block reward reduces every 4 years and as the days passes by the block reward becomes so low and the last satoshi will be mined. When the block reward reduces from time to time the miners who are running out of profits will include their mining fees on the transactions and the fees for the transaction will sky rocket. So, to prevent such thing, segwits were introduced which reduces the size of each transaction and large number of transactions can be fit inside a 1mb block.
Once when the mining concludes(i.e last satoshi is mined and no more block rewards), new technologies such as Lightning network comes into existence and hence the transactions may be done off chain and the fees may be saved.
1554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternatives to WaveCrest cards for altcoins? on: February 21, 2018, 02:00:47 PM
Wavecrest has been a good provider of debit cards for btc and other altcoins. But sadly since the cards has been cancelled and disabled since Visa has discontinued it's support we need to go for other alternatives.
If you had been a guy from Europe I would have suggested you to get into Xapo cards as they convert your crypto to fiat at free of cost and the yearly fees is just as minimal as 12$ only.

Since you are from US I would suggest you to use Bitwala which has features such as virtual and plastic cards and only low fees on atm payouts. If you are not OK with bitwala try using Spectrocoin which is supported everywhere around the world where Visa and Master cards are supported. Bitpay is in earlier stages of accepting altcoins. If it accepts go with that.
1555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why hackers can get into Myetherwallet on: February 21, 2018, 09:37:36 AM
mew has many phishing websites which are similar to the original website. You could have come under the attack of the phishing website where you could have entered your private keys or you must have used them in a public computer where someone might have stolen your key. I have been using mew for past 1 year and I have been experiencing no issues with them as I store the keys very secretly or store them in a very safe place. You should only login in to the mew while you are transferring funds otherwise you must use only ethexplorer for checking the balance of your wallet. Login in to your account must be done very safely so that no one might see your keys. Use only ethexplorer for checking your balance.

1557  Other / Off-topic / Re: Awarding Merit for quality posts on: February 20, 2018, 10:32:24 AM
This post was not very helpful nor it was constructive. Hence I can't merit it and moreover I have very few merits to award. Sorry

As other members commented on your topic,  a really silly topic for meriting it.

A speculation topic which has nothing to do with quality post. Sorry will not be meriting it.

No way helpful to anyone!

You still doesn't know what a quality post means. Not only me, no one will be meriting this pure shit. Try to read this and educate yourself and resubmit here.
1558  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why was ECDSA encryption chosen? on: February 20, 2018, 06:34:09 AM
As achow said ECDSA is not a encryption, it's a signature algorithm. ECDSA stand for Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm. RSA has been used widely in the olden days for the encryption and the decryption of the messages.

But these RSA algorithm of encryption had larger key length. ECDSA provides the same security similar to RSA but in a short length of keys.
Having short length of keys helps us in computational activities to be executed at a faster rate and moreover this shorter key lengths helps us in processing power, reducing the storage space and reducing the consumption of power. ECDSA were able to generate keys at a faster rate in a much efficient way when compared to the RSA.

Once I read somewhere that an ECDSA has keys which has length ranging from 20 bytes to 70 bytes whereas a RSA has keys ranging from 0.12 kb to 1.9 kb. These factors are just more than enough for going with this type of algorithm for encryption.
1559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price on: February 20, 2018, 05:26:14 AM
May be not, bitcoin is too volatile in nature and staying in the same price for few minutes is unlikely and cannot happen. Many factors affect the volatile nature of the bitcoin. Bitcoin is certainly a new currency and and many people are buying them mostly because of speculation and are not buying on a specific task. Btc being limited in number (21mill) is also a important factor for the volatility as more and more coins are mined out, they become scarce and similar to gold increases in value. Many governmental factors too affect the volatility as if a particular government ban btc and other virtual currencies, this affects the price and eventually the price goes down. When there is a security breach in the network, the investors react and this also governs the volatility.
Hence btc will not become stable in the near future.
1560  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How create new altcoin ? on: February 19, 2018, 02:11:58 PM
Yes you can create you own altcoin in easy ways. If you are familiar with creating a erc token you can just go with ethereum platform. But you need to have some eth in your wallet for creating a token. If you are good at programming your own altcoin with C platform then you can go with linux or windows for creating.
For creating a token, go to your official ethereum wallet and click on contracts. Once you have done them visit this link and create your own altcoin.
If you are sure to create the coin with C program then check this thread on bitcointalk on how to create your own coin.
If you can't follow the instructions above check this thread which gives a clear insight on how to create them with windows.
