Alot of people are wishing they would of bought more in the $200 range.  There is going to be alot more people wishing they would of bought in the $300 range after the halving boom.  Believe me, its coming.

correct.

Yes, if they will raise the limit. If they refuse, a boom won't be possible.

About this I am not sure, but it's quite possible that will be a show stopper

Grin

On the blockchain, noone knows you're a whale.

Äääääh...

Gute Idee.

I just posted on auroraspjall.is some images and description from the exchange that we will open up for beta test in the next days.

Those who are interested can check it out here.

Cool shit, bro, it looks really great!

One question: I understand foreigners cannot get an account. Will it be possible for us to somehow observe market price, order book, etc? In other words: will you offer a datafeed for bitcoincharts, bitcoinwisdom,...?

Of course.  Grin

Everyone can get the market overview on the front page which includes the last 5 trades, the current 5 open offers for both buy and sell sides along with a price development chart. You can also open the orderbook and see there the top buy and sell orders along with a market depth chart. So it's easy for everyone to follow how the market is evolving.

Another thing is that we have a complete API for the exchange and everything that is related to the market info is open for anyone to use. Only account specific calls require an API key.

Awesome... looking forward to observe that market.

hmmm. Interessant: It's a feature, not a bug?

Very interesting question from Hlynur Þór Björnsson related to the soon-to-be opened icelandic exchange.  I wonder the same thing for a while.

Isx.is is opening up for ISK/AUR trading within Iceland, beta tests will hopefully start next week.

This will open up for some strange market dynamics where Auroracoin will be traded locally for ISK and on foreign exchanges for BTC ~ USD. These two markets will be separated by currency controls in Iceland.

To begin with I think tha the Isx.is ISK price for AUR when calculated via official ISK/USD/BTC price will be on par with foreign exchanges. This will change when the Icelanders that own BTC and can arbitrage the two markets will deplete their BTC funds, unless the currency controls don't hold and Icelanders can freely buy BTC.

The Isx.is market is not open to foreigners because of the currency controls, so this market will have limited supply of freshly mined Auroracoin, given that miners are mostly foreigners. The supply will be more or less Airdroped coins and the demand will be driven by Icelanders interested in giving Auroracoin a chance. While foreign markets are driven by miners and foreign speculators.

Any ideas how this will play out?

Interesting thoughts.

How harsh are these capital/currency controls? Is it possible to acquire digital goods like steam credits, gift cards, etc inside Iceland and sell them abroad for AUR?

Another thought: shouldn't there be large AUR holdings inside Iceland resulting from the airdrop?

In sum, I can't imagine the capital controls being so tight that it wont be possible to sync those markets. AUR/BTC (outside Iceland) and ISK/AUR (on isx.is) should be small enough to allow for that. It's just a hunch, though. Yeah, there will likely be some kind of price difference one way or the other reflecting some sort of friction or imbalances, but I'm guessing not more than 10% and probably pretty constant over time.

I wish I had got into Bitcoin before that. I only got into it after the 'ATH' was over and it was in the news, then it took ages for me to find this forum and realize its significance. I experienced little rallies like the one to 660, and this latest one to 500, but the 'ATH' rally must have been awesome to experience.

It was a rather surreal experience. I kept a window open to watch the never ending all time high graphic popping up time and time again. Every time I woke up it had smashed a seemingly inconceivable price once again. I recommend it as long as you have all the coins you want.

It must have been stressful deciding whether to sell, and when to. After the 'ATH' it crashed down to 600, then went back up to 1000 very fast. Those sort of violent price movements can either make you a fortune, or lose you a fortune. The crash and bounce from 500 after the latest rally was stressful enough.

I found the runup earlier in the same year (March/April 2013) a lot more emotional and stressful.

After the bear market of 2011 and a good year of what looks like essentially sideways action in retrospect we finally broke the old ath of $32, which some said would never be broken again. Afterwards, driven by the media (cyprus and all that), this incredible rally started going off like there was no tomorrow. The rocket had been filling up with fuel for a long time and propelled us up to mind-boggling heights of $266. What a blast! The crash was excruciatingly painful and volatile. It slammed down to $50 (where I actually sold some coins in panic, which I hadn't ever done before) in what seemed like no time at all. I (and probably many others) came out very relieved we hadn't dropped below $32.

This was all a lot more exciting and emotionally challenging for me than the subsequent runup to $1263 in November.

EDIT: the most recent runup (peaking Nov 4th) and 'crash' (if it can be called that at all) seems tame, almost boring in comparison.

People should be cautious when receiving coins. One miner (AVNY6cjEbr3GRaXeFHrxtzAAsWfn8eg53Y) has >50% hashing power.

I would like to ask the pool owner mining to this address to contact me.

great, 51% is the last thing this coin need

I'm developing monitoring software, and noticed this when I started it this morning. While this is  something we don't really want, it is currently the reality. That's why I'm giving this warning. I guess it will happen more often in the future.

If people want to protect themselves against a double spend attack, people should at least wait for a block found by pools AYovB1fohMrn7FSnVF8iDAJzVQvY7D8ykr or AHA5ib4eehh5Gkonv4ZPMZDz3zTS5wn6X5 (together about 40% hash rate) before confirming a transaction. The first one is my own private pool, the other is AURpool, which is run by LTEX (dev team member).

wouldn't it be sufficient (or better?) to just wait for some amount of confirmations regardless of the miner? After all: cost to orphan those blocks (by building a parallel longer chain) is the same, no matter who mined it, no?

Fantastic acquisitions. Money well spent.

Kudos to CoinHeavy for being so supportive.

Any of you guys have a good idea what to call Auroracoin fractions?

There is a good reason why people were quick to give Bitcoin fractions some names like bitcent, millibit, microbit and satoshi. Would be great to hear some suggestions for this. Something that you think might work for Icelandic people as well.

currently it might make more sense to look for names of multiples of AUR, like kiloAUR, ... ;-)

I personally had the same challenges as you guys and what helped for me is to join the toolbox and address your issue with the OP's online. They managed to release my funds on the fly. Mails somehow don't work that well.

If you open a support ticket using the form on the page and fill out all the forms, support usually react very quickly lately. Requests for canceling pending withdrawals (which sadly was necessary rather often) usually worked in under an hour, for example.

I agree there should be a warning (without implying anything further about the state of cryptsy) in OP.
