This webpage from landsbanki says i as a foreigener can open a bank account in iceland

https://www.landsbankinn.com/personal/faq/

Is this true?

Yes but you need a social ID that is given specifically for that purpose and you need to be present here in Iceland to get it. Fairly standard I would guess.

"social ID" = "kennitalia" ?!?
1002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IF the NSA wanted to take control over Bitcoin, how would they do it? on: May 08, 2016, 07:18:59 AM
Some ideas on how it could work:

- Read through the connection data (phone, email etc) from key figures of the Bitcoin community to gain insider knowledge
- Infiltrate core development and replace Bitcoin key figures with NSA staff
- Discredit respected members of the community
- Kill people, if they don't corporate.

Are core devs discussing this possiblility of a large scale infiltration and how to avoid?

What if that infiltration has already happened?

You guys are forgetting about big bitcoin mines that are based in iceland. 5 percent of bitcoin is mined in iceland by big companies like genesis mining. These companies are going to play a big role soon because they can produce bitcoin cheaply and then buy auroracoin really cheaply on bittrex selling for higher price on isx.is.  these mining companies have at least one billion dollars of bitcoin to trade this way.

It's only legal to mine bitcoin in Iceland but not to buy bitcoin and send it out the country.

Noone in Iceland is buying any bitcoin in this scenario.

Is it 'legal' to send mined bitcoin outside of the country. I would say: probably yes.

In that case I'd say adamastor has a great point and Icelandic miners a good way to improve their revenue given buying pressure on ISX.

Of course they could also just mine AUR directly.

1004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AUR] Auroracoin market observer on: May 07, 2016, 08:00:47 AM
(cross-posting from main thread because I got lead to the topic of price...)

So, you have to live in icland for 7 years and right after that you can start to trade on isx.is!)

You can also just come here in 1-2 years and have money to spend! How about paying for your hotel, flight, and all restaurants in 2 years with Auroracoin.

I think that's the way to go.

It'll be very interesting to see how (if, to what extent) arbitrage will be done. I believe there are probably be mechanisms to circumvent the capital controls and if there's money to be made, it will be done. Question is how high will the difference be... one should basically be able to see the cost imposed by capital controls (plus normal fees, of course)...

hmm. https://beta.isx.is/ redirects to https://isx.is/. Is the exchange live?

Just checked price. It's around 38 ISK/AUR = 0.31 USD/AUR = 0.00067 BTC/AUR

So the price on the icelandic exchange is 40% above the bittrex price.

so I'm guessing it's rather expensive to sell those ISK for EUR/USD/BTC? Or maybe it's just not enough volume yet to justify ($1000 24h volume on isx)...

Here's a good link posted in the other thread that shows volumes and price on different exchanges: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/auroracoin/#markets

1005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: May 06, 2016, 09:36:38 AM
will flow to iceland, but way to go. In the next months, there will be some challenges, and already great solutions being discussed. One of these challenges is how to get AUR back to iceland ?   There is already a lot of AUR in iceland, but we dont know yet how many will actually hit the market. So foreign aur will somewhat need to be ''imported''.

From then, i guess ISX will drain Bittrex action / lets work toward this !

One suggestion, get in touch with some tourist businesses and see if they'd be willing to give discounted rates if foreign tourists come to Iceland and pay in Auroracoin.

That would likely get some of my AUR flowing back.
1006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: May 06, 2016, 09:35:22 AM
Getting close to 50% of the daily volume on ISX. http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/auroracoin/#markets

It's picking up nicely.

I think it will dwarf the volume on bittrex soon.

How do I become a citizen of Iceland? ;-)

The Basics Of A Bitcoin-Based Global Identity System.

Same with Bittrex.

"The last block update occurred 31 minutes ago."

sh.t!

Just sent a test tx to bittrex. It sees it unconfirmed, but "last block update occurred 55 minutes ago".

This is not good. They didn't update? Someone needs to contact them.

Miners are having a field day Wink

(click for link to working explorer insight.auroracoin.tools).

I for one welcome our new (and old) diverse mining overlords!

ps: my good old abe-based https://explorer.auroracoin.eu seems to also still work... kind of (it doesn't see the algo property, of course)

That contest idea  is awesome
1013  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: April 26, 2016, 10:28:29 PM

Roll Eyes Sollen ja riesige Mengen rumliegen iwo...

1014  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: April 25, 2016, 02:32:43 PM

1015  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: AURORACOIN - Empowering Financial Freedom on: April 25, 2016, 04:55:54 AM
It's one thing to attack the technological fundamentals but history has proven time and time again the best tech doesn't always wins. It's all about the best combination of solid and STABLE tech, a bit of marketing pizazz but also commitment to knowing who your customers are. Not trying to say AUR is like a product, but I believe the fundamentals of business and commerce is all the same regardless. It's all money at the end of the day right? The AUR team is one of the few who knows their target market versus alot of github autists who "think" they know what the average person wants or needs. AUR is one of the few alts with potential for real world use, versus all these other coins on CMC which are all designed to trade and make more Bitcoin and have no hope of ever being used for anything.

If you are going to treat crypto like trading baseball cards, than that is all it will ever be. But I personally think it can be much more.

That first paragraph makes an extremely good point. I like that last sentence, too, because it hints at the fact we really construct our world using thought, language and tools like that.

It makes me happy that there is a group of extremely constructive people pushing forward Auroracoin adoption in Iceland very thoughtfully. Thank you guys!
1016  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Casascius Bitcoin Analyzer on: April 24, 2016, 09:32:30 AM
Naypalm,

I have 1 BTC on a physical Casascius entacted. I look on your site and it shows active but when I go to blockchain.info it's invalid. Is it still a valid BTC?

Is your coin a newly minted coin? Please send me your coins address and I investigate further.

bought it in 2013. 133xyZkA

according to https://casascius.com/fulllist.txt from Mike, this coin has address 133xyZkAP69db3kMXqNTGQ4q2Km36mGbFS, which is still funded with 1 BTC

maybe noteworthy: https://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/07/18/firstbits-are-not-whats-printed-on-the-coin/
1017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AUR] Auroracoin market observer on: April 23, 2016, 06:22:29 AM
Good morning guys !

Barely discussed, I wonder how bitcoin halving will influence its price - and how this will impact AUR price.  Timing is one more time interesting, and I wonder how a bitcoin rally would impact every other coins.  Not that AUR need BTC to exist (no BTC pair in iceland) - but still a factor.

True price discovery will come from within Iceland. A price evolution like the above one it's possible.
Growth to 0,002BTC followed by a longer consolidation.
I have no reason to belive this graph as true or false. Just an intuition.

interesting intution. You probably can't tell what it's based on, can you? Judging from the graph one could think that maybe you've been looking at "old restistances/support"?

Here's another chart of the old times. Not logarithmic.

However, there's loads of caveats regarding looking at this very old data for hints:

  • should we look at Auroracoin in terms of BTC or FIAT?
  • That history is really, really old. Buyers/sellers from back then probably have low impact nowadays. There weren't many coins at at (the first airdrop was only 38.3 AUR/person and the coin had just started, with no premine (supposedly) being sold)
  • Note that the lowest point on that graph on the right is 0.009 BTC/AUR. That's crazy. We have multiple magnitudes more AUR available today

I would rather not look at this very old history.

About consolidation around 0.002: yes, that's possible, but I think 0.001 or 0.003 are more likely for having a break, though (intuition). It can only be a break, too: for a long-term valuation it doesn't make much sense (that's either too low or too high)
1018  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: April 22, 2016, 06:38:10 PM

Quote

1 satoshi = 1 cent

klingt gut, bin dabei.

Brilliant!
