161  Economy / Lending / Re: 3000-6000 BTC loan - Hookah Lounge - 9/18/12 Update on: September 28, 2012, 05:47:59 PM
Just the $5000.  I've been busy with guitar lately.  I'm not in a hurry though, the hookah lounge will come.

Wait, someone seriously invested $5000 in this project??  Who in the world was that?

[snip entire argumentative statement from competing mining company operator]

 Roll Eyes

Ian knows why that statement is there, in the future please don't come to my companies thread and talk trash or I'll be here to talk trash in yours.
167  Economy / Securities / Re: {Bakewell} Get an equitable stake in a transparent & growing mining company on: September 27, 2012, 07:09:14 PM
So have you bought any gear yet?  Paid any dividends?

What are you planning on buying a couple boxes with 2 7970s in them?

Puts you at ~2.6Ghash?

Thats about  6 BTC a week, half paid as a dividend to shareholders.  3 BTC spread over 5000 shares @ .125 each 625 BTC, thats about 0.5% per week.  With no ASIC gear on order.

Wow, I didn't realize how light the payout is when the operater doesn't put any gear in to start the company.

silverbox: "ooouh yeah!"

silverbox *eats some silver for breakfast*

171  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: September 25, 2012, 11:10:45 PM
i don't know about you but i'm worried about the integrity of my own coins which is why i'm going to US them.  and i bought them way before $1000.  i do know that if i'm worried, everyone else is too.

Yeah, people are definitely going to be pretty worried about their physical... But I suspect *most* (in private hands, at least) will be found to be legit. Cheap testing equipment will proliferate a bit, and this will blow over. Obviously, I could be wrong, but these things generally tend to get blown out of proportion...

You're looking at this as really bearish for gold. What about the flipside argument? If there really *is* widespread fraudulent physical gold (say, more than 15% of what's in private hands), that instantly reduces what people thought the supply of physical gold was, therefore bumping the price?? Maybe this just causes a big spread to develop between paper and (legit)physical... ?

Disclosure: I'm neither bullish nor bearish on gold. Too much variance on all the variables, leading to statistical noise in aggregate, in my opinion... Bitcoin, on the other hand, I'm pretty bullish on. And yeah, good luck filling bitcoin with tungsten.

imagine if just one Bitcoin was found to be filled with "tungsten" metaphorically; it would destroy the entire Bitcoin concept.

now you can say that it would be different somehow for gold or silver if "just 5%"  or even "1%" were fake b/c of its thousand year history but do you really think that will be the case?  how many of you can stand to have 5% of your stash to be fake?

Coinage has been debased and counterfeited since the begninning of time.  This is no different.  I doubt even 1 in 1000 gold bullion coins/bars are fake.  I'm not worried about my bullion in the slightest.  If it was even as widespread as 1% counterfeit, we'd be seeing 100s of examples on social media and news stories.. Not the same 10 oz bar over and over again.
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Oh Gosh,,,, MSI 890FXA-GD70 4 x 5830,, Was working fine,,, out of nowhere KABOOM on: September 25, 2012, 07:20:31 AM
All the cards fan's spin. I am lost here. Maybe a dummy plug would help.. I am going to try that... but i never needed them before.... drivers are the same...

Going to go screw around with it ....

The card's fans spin because the power cable is attached and feeding power. In my case it was definitely a software issue but I couldn't get it to fix without removing the cards form the machine and then letting Windows see that they were gone. When I put them back in, they reconfigured and worked fine.

If you didn't need dummy plug before, you don't need them now, and my recollection is the ATI drivers changed to not require dummy plugs late 2011.

I've also had some success with removing cards from the device manager till you just have one then rebooting, its sometimes worth a shot vs pulling them all then adding them one by one (I've resorted to this before also), also it can sometimes take windows a few minutes to find new cards, don't boot up only see two cards then reboot like 15 seconds later, give it a chance to find the other two.
173  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] [WAHMINE] Setting up IPO Looking for input on: September 25, 2012, 07:02:37 AM
Due to headaches with attempting to get assistance from customer service at GLBSE, and refusal to just simply refund the fee or assist with how to phrase a contract to get approved I am asking the forum to help me to iron out any problems so I dont simply "donate" my BTC to GLBSE since that makes perfect sense. Please poke holes in it and let me know if there is something wrong that I could possibly lose my BTC for the IPO. Hopefully someone can point out any problems before they get out of hand. Its 3 AM here and I have been researching this for a while and am tired. If my math looks wrong please point it out also and I will update after I get sleep.

Equipment will be insured against theft and fire.

Initial Equipment:
1 PC to host FPGA/ASIC/GPUs
3 Jalepeno ASIC's preordered (6/23 order)
1 Single upgrade to ASIC preordered (6/3 order)

8000@1 BTC

The Plan:

The plan is to purchase, with IPO funds, ASIC Singles and Mini Rig 'SC' Units from Butterfly Labs, in single unit purchases.  It is possible that a few GPUs will be purchased and/or Butterfly labs FPGA singles to increase dividends during the waiting period for ASIC hardware to arrive.  Final Mhash/s per share ratio is expected to be 300+ Mhash/s per share after asics begin to arrive.

The Contract:

WAHMINE (WAHMINE) is an ASIC/FPGA/GPU mining company.  75% of all net mining revenue (income minus expenses for repairs to mining equipment or other incidentals, operator is covering cost of electricity and will not pass the expense to shareholders) will be  returned to the shareholders. The operater will direct the day to day operations and the remaining revenue of 25% will be used toward new upgrades and equipment. Initial (pre IPO) hashing power (already ordered) will consist of ~10.5 GH/s (Jalapenos) and ~40 GH/s (Single 'SC') for a total of ~50.5 GH/s for now (GPU/FPGA mix). In the event of complete liquidation,  100% of the proceeds will go to the shareholders.  The operator of the company reserves the right regardless of the number of shares held to liquidate the company's assets and cease operations. Any motions raised by shareholders will be considered advisory and non binding, and hold no voting rights. Dividends will be issued monthly on the 30th of the month.

This contract looks strangely familiar Wink

Don't buy a bond, pick a mining company, there are a few that aren't complete ripoffs Wink

175  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 25, 2012, 12:36:50 AM
So I bet 10 BTC on this and never got paid??

When can I expect to get paid?Huh??

It's coming.  Stop pestering people about it.  As we know, pestering causes delays.

178  Economy / Securities / Re: Real Life Stock Passthroughs (eg AAPL) on: September 24, 2012, 11:34:32 AM
This has already come up multiple times.  and been pretty much shot down multiple times..

Real stocks have tiny yield, BTC/USD fluctuations, SEC/regulatory issues, USD handling issues, need a series 7, etc, etc..
179  Economy / Securities / Re: New Asset idea, Cambodian rice sharecropping (4% to 6% a year) Feedback wanted! on: September 23, 2012, 05:01:27 PM
I have a friend who makes about 100k a year rice farming on leased land (in the US), I don't know what the lease costs him, but its probably around half the price his crop sells for.  He's a very oppressed slave.. He lives in a nice house, with a nice wife and kids, drives his nice truck out to his leased farmland everyday parks it in his huge barn full of equipment and works the fields..  Its rough I tell ya!!  Grin
