161  Economy / Speculation / Re: (Poll) Do you have money in Mt Gox? on: February 17, 2014, 04:14:00 AM
Trick question. There is no such thing as 'money in MT Gox'. Only IOUs.
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you heard about the Bitcoin "Kill Switch"? It's a doozy! on: February 15, 2014, 07:09:31 PM
Open source is the future. I damn well hope so anyway, otherwise we're fucked.
163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: State of Florida attacks Bitcoin on: February 15, 2014, 07:05:03 PM
I found this statement to fit in ironically with the "victimless" part of this thread.  To recap, someone stated earlier in this thread that the victims of drug violence are due to the war on drugs rather than drugs themselves.

The district attorney, unhappy with the grand jury letting the defendant go on capital murder charges, said:

The self-defense laws in Texas are viewed in the mindset of the actor, not the victim, which allows for tragedies to occur when one party is acting lawfully, but it can be reasonably seen as a threat of deadly force by another. However, the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office would not have been there that day if Mr. Magee had not decided to live a lifestyle of doing and producing illegal drugs in his home. Therefore, we will fully prosecute the drug charges against him. This event should wake the community up that drug crimes are not victimless.

Texas Grand Jury Refuses To Indict Homeowner In Shooting Death Of Sheriff’s Deputy

The violent shooting you reference would not have occurred if drugs were legal and produced in a safe setting like alcohol.

The cause of the violence is most definitely the war on drugs....that's the nature of war.  The drugs themselves are not the cause of the 10,000+ murders per year in Mexico, or the 500+ murders per year in Chicago.

People working in a black market can't use the legal system to enforce their contracts, so they turn to violence instead.

Prohibition leads to a massive increase in violence and widespread corruption.  We learned this during alcohol prohibition in the 30's, and we're learning it again with drug prohibition in the new millenium.

Its funny how throughout history, whenever there are wars, there are parties with particular interests profiting immensely from the conflict. Doesn't matter whether we're talking about a war in the conventional sense, where young men are sent to the other side of the world to kill brown people, and in turn risk getting killed themselves, or whether the war is completely stupid, against something as abstract as a chemical structure, which also leads to casualties of war i.e. young people, also quite often brown, locked up in prisons and more or less having their lives destroyed, all for the sake of profits.
164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you heard about the Bitcoin "Kill Switch"? It's a doozy! on: February 15, 2014, 06:30:52 PM
We need to start working on open source hardware.
165  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-13] Silk Road 2 Hacked, Unknown amount of Bitcoins Stolen on: February 15, 2014, 04:35:17 PM
Its a shame really. The original silk road seemed to have a good thing going. I actually discovered Bitcoin when someone told me about that article (was it reuters?).

I also heard about Bitcoin via the media coverage of Silk Road. A lot of people did.

The rabbit hole turned out to be much deeper than that... So far, the journey has been an incredibly enlightening experience, I feel I've really learned a lot over the last year. I just hope that I'm following the right course, it feels to me that things have been playing out more or less as intended. I'm sure the rollercoaster could get a lot more intense before we reach the endgame, whatever that may be. But I have faith that everything will work out just fine in the end - I'm sure there are powers at work within or perhaps beyond this universe which I couldn't even begin to comprehend.

So what drugs did you buy?  Cheesy

Drugs? No I didn't buy any drugs  Tongue
166  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-13] Silk Road 2 Hacked, Unknown amount of Bitcoins Stolen on: February 15, 2014, 05:51:58 AM
Ummm. Good? WTF, are we supposed to feel sorry for criminals having their bitcoins stolen or are we supposed to worry about the bad security of a criminal enterprise? Good, steal them all....

How sad.  To have such severe sociopathy that one relies exclusively on law for a moral compass.  Even Pinocchio fared better and he was made of wood and had a cricket for a conscience.

To me, feeling sorry for others is a question of compassion, not policital correctness.  For example, I feel sorry for you.

Well played sir. Well played.

i contacted this guy wrt visiting him and received multiple borderline abusive posts back.

tbh i wouldn't touch him or his buy 2 get 1 free bullshit..

but im a bit jaded by all the b.s. artists among us, so call me names

Edgar is offended that i didn't want to pay for his trip to the UK, to verify the legitimacy of this company

Really??

what compelled you to lie about that?

and now that its 100% clear that you lie and are therefore a liar, what else have you decided to lie about?

Is tirapon aware of your dishonesty?

Is he ok with it?

Hi edgar.

What seems to be the issue? There has obviously been a breakdown in communication between the 3 of us. At CRYPTOWARE we endeavour to provide excellent customer service, of course occasionally mistakes happen, as we are all human, but in such situations we would generally do our best to make things right. Lets see if we can sort this out here.
168  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-13] Silk Road 2 Hacked, Unknown amount of Bitcoins Stolen on: February 15, 2014, 05:20:44 AM
Its a shame really. The original silk road seemed to have a good thing going. I actually discovered Bitcoin when someone told me about that article (was it Gawker?) Naturally I was curious, I checked out their forums and it seemed like a pretty nice vibe. I stayed away from the main site, because I wanted to err on the side of caution...  Then I came here, to find out more about this Bitcoin thing. I quickly realised that there was a lot more to this story than a bunch of freedom loving libertarians trading 'illicit' chemicals over the tor network. The rabbit hole turned out to be much deeper than that... So far, the journey has been an incredibly enlightening experience, I feel I've really learned a lot over the last year or so. I just hope that I'm following the right course, it feels to me that things have been playing out more or less as intended. I guess the rollercoaster could get a lot more intense before we reach the endgame, whatever that may be. But I'm sure that everything will work out just fine in the end - There are powers at work within or perhaps beyond this universe which I couldn't even begin to comprehend.

Its now a just a matter of faith.

A quote, which is sampled in a beautiful set that I like to listen to:

Quote
The worldly hope men set their hearts upon turns to ashes - or it prospers; and anon, like snow upon the desert's dusty face, lighting a little hour or two - it is gone.

Change is the only certainty in life. Eventually, everything turns to dust. And so what is there to worry about? Live your life and enjoy yourself. Follow your path. Have faith that all will work out. Maybe things will get worse before they get better, but remember it probably won't even matter in the end.

'This too shall pass' (The bad times, and the good)

Heavy shit for a Friday evening  Shocked Cheesy  EDIT: Saturday morning LOL

Peace.

What happened last time, after the original SR got shut down and there was a mass sell off? I remember price recovered pretty quickly, and then... damn it was so long ago, anyone else remember?
172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reggie Middleton builds Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts on Blockchain on: February 12, 2014, 12:41:45 AM
So if I understand correctly: Essentially users are making bets against one another (or more accurately, entering into zero trust financial contracts). If I bet that the price of BTC will fall against the dollar, I have effectively hedged into USD because at the time that the contract expires, I get back the same USD amount in BTC as I had when I entered into the contract, i.e. if price drops I get back more coins whereas if it climbs I get back less. This means that you never have to actually trade BTC for USD or whatever else you might want to gain exposure to, and yet you are still able to hedge the value of your coins against, well, anything.

I really hope this works.

173  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Insider Information Theory on: February 08, 2014, 04:06:38 AM
The market was quiet for too long and due for a move.
Coincidence = Possible
Coincidence = Likely

FTFY

Market was due to move and just needed a trigger? Same as last time when we had rallied to over $1000 from around $100, and then China banned transfers to exchanges?
174  Economy / Speculation / Re: Inverse head and shoulder pattern on: February 08, 2014, 03:04:36 AM
Inverse head and shoulders should be upside down:

Now the claw part is at new ATH. HODLers are fine.

How does Gox still exist? I discovered Bitcoin in 2012 and I never used Mt Gox due to the bad reviews on this forum. I am still hoping they might add LTC support though  Tongue
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Free Shrem T-Shirt on: February 04, 2014, 10:58:01 PM
Shrem has been made a scapegoat IMO and the community should offer any support that they can.

Support for what? He operated a very expensive service. The fees were extremely high and there were always a problem of liquidity going on in his exchange. Now it is clear why his exchange did not provided any "instant" service. He was likely given preferential attention to the money laundering customers rather than provide a fair service to the legit customers. Some forum users reported serious loss due errors in the "instant" service. I have nothing against him, but I also do not see any reason to support him. He got millionaire from his high fees, so why should people even support him? He can pay his own lawyer to defend him in court.

I just see it as a case of scapegoating. Authorities want to be seen to be being tough on any crime involving these newfangled digital currencies. Now a young person is potentially looking at spending a significant amount of time in jail - obviously I don't know the whole story but I get the impression it probably wasn't the worst crime in history - not on the level of, say, laundering billions of dollars for serious organised crime syndicates. Or, I dunno, ordering a drone strike on a wedding convoy in Yemen?

Just my opinion though, and I'm just some guy on the internet...
