If for whatever reason the komodo swing wallet now or in future won't work anymore, is the backed-up wallet.dat (at a time and blockheight when the app still worked) save?

With save I mean, are the funds (KMD) accessible by importing the wallet.dat into other applications (Agama etc.)?

Yes,  Agama has a function to import private keys

Also,   Munich Conference and other events have been attended with more on the way.

Jumblr is active as well with several servers constantly pumping out the z tx's to increase anon set

and Ledger Integration.

and James is working on the Privatebet and Pangea.

Also many more things in the works,   more partnerships, more use cases,   more tech.

Komodo/SuperNET is a marathon, there is an entire ecosystem being built and TBH, we have more progress than  99% of coins out there.

I also am earning very little interest. I sent 0.001 to myself and have earned .11 KMD for holding under 900 coins for the last two days. Is this normal?

5% apr if you had 900 would be 45 kmd a year assuming no compounding .  45/365 = .123 a day .  You said you had less than 900 so this seems about accurate.

Make sure to spend all the utxo 's to get all your interest

wallet used to work, not is just says "activating best chain" for 5 hours +.... guess there is no best chain... and my wallet was synced
Please join our slack and message me @ptytrader in the #support channel. I am online from 8-5p.m. Eastern Time. I can help you troubleshoot live. Lately I've been using TeamViewer and Teleconsole to help people remotely.

Most wallet issues can be fixed.

Is there a Komodo slack that is different than the BTCD slack? If so, can I get an invite?

I asked the same question on the BTCD forum so wanted to double check - If I buy BTCD today, can this be swapped for Komodo going forward when the website is back up and running?

Yes you will be able to swap until end of the year.  It is recommended that you swap sooner rather than later as the site may be down between scheduled swap times as a security measure.

I have been reading about Komodo and I'm curious to hear anyone's answer to this

If you were explaining Komodo to a new user, who has a basic understanding of crypto but knows nothing of Komodo

How would you explain it to them?

And

Why should they choose Komodo over say BTC, ETH, or ZEC

We explained Komodo it in the updated bitcointalk thread. Check it out and let us know if it is clear and how it could be improved.

We are in the process of building everything up, so from the user's perspective bitcoins have more usability than KMD (or any other cryptocurrency). But, already excellent privacy can be achieved through Jumblr, so there's a usecase already. No GUI yet though.

can you give us a short update about the GUI status/process? Many thanks

Version 2.0.2 is the latest I believe for Agama. Updates and experimental versions can be found on github.  "UglyGUI" is being prioritized to allow users to use and test Barterdex. Despite its name. It's not ugly just simple  which I don't think is a bad thing.

Better privacy than ZEC
Faster and less governance issues than BTC
When smart contracts get implemented  they will be independent chains and not built into a blockchain like ETH or BTC.  Preventing social issues like the ramifications of the DAO attack or Parity hack. ( simplified:  rollbacks are far less cumbersome and disruptive because only the only smartchain gets rolled back and not the main Komodo chain.)

Do you know "where" the 5% are taken from ?  The more I stack the more i should return interest right ?

They are new coins, generated not taken from anywhere. The more you stack the more coins you will receive though the rate remains the same.  To get slightly more than the 5% redeem your interest often to take advantage of cumulative compounding.

I'll be quoting myself until someone tell me there i a solution and convince me I should mne more KMD that I still cannot send anywhere.

Does Basilisk mode allow transfers?

I'm stuck trying to sent lousy 2 and a something KMD to the exchange. Mined some time for them, and now I can't sent them from Agama basilisk mode, and the native took ages and didn't show them.

Quote
Processing transaction...
Note: it may take a few minutes to complete the transaction.

Left it for like hours. Updated Agama, same problem.

Could you post what version of agama and what os you are using

1) It is still a little buggy, but they are working on it. I find when I have issues, it is best to restart the wallet. - Also you can check your wallet balance in the online blockchain explorer: explorer website:
http://kmd.explorer.supernet.org/address/YOUR-ADRESS-GOES-HERE

2) You collect 5% interest on KMD simply by holding it in your wallet. Every once in awhile send your self .001 KMD to see that interest in your balance. More info here: https://supernet.org/en/resources/articles/receive-free-coins-quaranteed-kmd-interest

3) This just means you should keep your keys backed up in a safe place like in a local password manager.

4) Not sure

Thanks for the replies. When you say send myself KMD you mean send it from an exchange or mining pool or something to my Agama wallet?

"If you want to accumulate even more KMD you need to get your interest to earn more interest. You won't receive the new coins until you have sent the coins, so the more often they are sent, the more KMD you receive."

Still a little confused.

Interest is claimed when you spend a valid utxo .  So send a tx from your wallet to yourself

Hey KMD fans - I am new to crypto and had a friend pay me for something recently with BTCD. I just learned that its being swapped for KMD? Is this still going on?

I went to https://ico.komodoplatform.com/ like the website said but it won't let me register a new account... any help here?

Ico site is down temporarily.  When it is back up an announcement will be made.  Expect sometime this month

I assume James will just ignore this question, but it never hurts to ask. I can see a lot of people being hacked here on the forum, someone always complains of the BTC stolen.

There is so much virtual currency under your control that highest security standards for you are obviously a must. I have never seeing you talking about your personal setup. Can you share with us how were you able to stay safe all these years. What I mean is you probably using Linux (which of those). You probably have wifi router setup (any special configuration with something enabled or disabled?). VPN? Antiviruses? Any advice would be appreciated.

Why would anyone reveal their security setup? On a public forum no less.  Your concerns are noted,  trust that supernets core of developers has a security first mindset and James is not foolish enough to leave large amounts of crypto lying around without more than ample protection.

1. Can someone explain in more detail the difference between client and lp nodes. In particular which one is better to earn fees with?

I'm still trying to understand the difference and the reasons to use client vs lp node with the dex.

Quote
As far as earning fees, it is expected that LP nodes are run by people who own the DEX (or JUMBLR or BOTS) assets and out of self interest they will keep an LP node running. Of course making the spread is always a nice income if you can manage (or dont care about) the overall market fluctuations

Quote
As far as what type of node to run, the LP nodes are able to do direct networking due to their published ip addresses so they have a speed advantage over pubkey based client nodes.

Quote
client nodes can now also be posting offers just like an LP node. and it is done automatically just like LP nodes. In addition, a client node can fill existing orderbook offers using the same utxo that are at the same time posted in N order books.basically you dont have to lock up your funds dedicated to a specific trade. It is your money, there is no need to withdraw it as you always control it, and you can make as many trade offers as you like, even use the same funds to fill existing offers (but I prevent self trading)

Quote
Even a basilisk node will be able to be an LP node. That has taken a bit more work, but I feel it is the more practical approach as this way anybody can be an LP node just by clicking a few fields in the GUI (not ready yet) without needing to download the entire blockchain.

Quote
as a client your node will connect to the peers but wont become a peer,
as an LP node, your node will become a peer but will only be able to be a maker and not a maker and taker like the client nodes can

Quote
I made a custom peer to peer network that the LP nodes create among themselves. This peer network is designed to propagate the list of peers, list of utxos and each node's prices among each other as efficiently as possible. It isnt a consensus requirement to have all nodes in 100% sync, but I think most of the time they should be
each node has a pubkey and of course an ip address, but only the peer networking is using ip addresses of the LP nodes
the orderbook is pubkey based, so each offer has the offer details and the pubkey
in order to enable client nodes that have no known ip address to the network to talk to each other, I made a forwarding service that the LP nodes provide
each node registers their pubkey/ipaddr to one or more LP nodes. After that, that LP node will respond positively to a lookup command when asked about a pubkey it is forwarding to. So, there isnt much ip privacy, but at least your ip address isnt posted on all the orderbooks and is mostly limited to the LP nodes. however since anybody can be an LP node, do not rely on any actual ip privacy. if you need that you need to take separate measures. Since there is no ip privacy guarantee, during the atomic swap process, the two nodes that are trading do establish a direct ip connection. Well it is using nanomsg so only the offering side is posting their ip address, but essentially it is direct ip link. Which means it is fast and reliable, only if one of the nodes disconnects will there be an issue

..Snip..

Due to the efficient nature of the peer network, it has a memory of all the peers, utxos and prices. Short of stopping all LP nodes at the same time, this memory will stay intact. This is good but it could be bad if some things that should be forgotten are not.

Quote
In order to prevent spamming, the client node must pay a dexfee (1/777th tradesize) to assure the LP node that he is serious. Putting an actual financial cost has the advantage in that it removes spammers at the first step and also it creates a revenue stream for our patient investors. There is an implicit assumption that LP nodes are more reliable than client nodes. Even before the dexfee is sent, the two nodes use the cut and choose protocol to perform a key exchange and create a trade specific set of addresses that will be used. Once this is done, then the dexfee is sent. Once the fee is verified to have been sent, the atomic swap starts for real. By convention the two parties trading are Alice (client) and Bob. Bob has the burden of providing a deposit in the protocol. To compensate, Bob has no dexfee at all, just the coins tx fee

From this it seems that the lp node is faster than the client, pays no dex fee -the client does, but has to put up 13% more per order than the client.

The lp broadcasts its ip address to others whereas the client only broadcasts to a single node. Ie: client is more anonymous

Its unclear to me if you will always need to dl each coin or if basilisk will work as a light wallet for each coin. Is the basilisk lpnode or client node? Not having to dl each coin would be huge.

Also it is unclear of why the client can be a maker taker and the lp node just a taker. How is the lp node supposed to make the spread?

It seems that the lp nodes are harder to setup, require coins to be downloaded and require your node to stay on and act as a server and require the extra %13 to be held but don't necessarily get enough perks for running one vs a client. Maybe im wrong.

It would be helpful to discuss scenerios or strategies that would use one vs the other.

Thanks.

Lp nodes for market making and arbitrage with central exchanges.  By running your lp node pairs on dex and central exchange you can profit.  Client nodes are not going to relay to on-central-exchange bots its trades are limited to in-wallet.

I believe this is the case,  best to wait for James answer

Few basic questions:

1- what's the Total Supply of KMD ?

2- What's the circulating KMD at the time ?

3- If Komodo is new version of BitcoinDark, why is BTCD still up an running ?

The total supply will be 200 000 000 after 14 years

The circulating supply is about 100 000 000

BitcoinDark can be swapped to KMD throughout 2017
The swap rate is about 50 KMD per 1 BTCD

Thanks. Is it easy to mine ?

Relative to zcash. Yes

I keep having problems running the Komodo wallet and I always get this message:

This is on an iMac running OSX Sierra 10.12.5

Any ideas?

Trying checking firewall settings and if the correct ports are open

Can someone from the team officially confirm that snapshot for the Jumbler was not made yet and we have at least 3 days to transfer our KMD to the wallet [or BTCD swapped through the website]?
Thanks.

Jumblr snapshot has not been made yet, and will not be done until ICO site issues have been resolved.

Having 'received' the payout some weeks ago I've been waiting for the new bug free Agama wallet to be released. Assuming it isn't by the time of the Jumblr asset distribution, will I still receive the asset?

Thanks Smiley

Jumblr snapshot and distribution has been delayed til the issues with the ICO site have been resolved.
