341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: November 22, 2016, 12:48:53 AM

I have to say, I am having a hard time believing that people gave up 1,951,627 BTCD to invest in an unproven Komodo platform that is a fork of the Zcash platform, when only 2688 BTC was invested by 1060 people. I accept the BTC because I see the numbers, but I cannot see the actual number of investors that parted with the BTCD.

Call me a Skeptic but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. There have been scammers before that have falsified the numbers on an ICO just to keep more for themselves.

I believe you are misunderstanding the situation.  The ~1.3 million BTCD is able to be swapped at a fixed rate of .00651 BTC into Komodo.  This swap is available for 1 year.   The Komodo that is left over from BTCD that did not get swapped ( coins lost, forgotten, owner missing )  will go towards the development fund.

So by the end of 2017, all of the Komodo coins from the ICO will be distributed,  regardless if people decide to hold on to their BTCD for more than 1 year.

The numbers are not falsified  they just take into account the fact that all coins will distributed and since the number of BTCD is known and the swap rate is known, the equivalent BTC value can be calculated.

Reposted here because limited response in slack...

Putting whichever crypto religion we've sworn our allegiance to this week aside, I'm looking for feedback here:
I can swap some btc for some zcash using bitsquare, perform a zcash transaction to break any traceability and sell my zcash (on bitsquare again) and get myself a lovely new btc with no previous history that can be linked to me.
I can perform the exact same series of steps and achieve the exact same result with zcoin (because it too is based on the zerocoin protocol).

So why then is zcash $70 (down from +2MM) whilst zcoin is $0.70c (down from $10) when the only extra thing zcash seems to offer is undetectable money creation due to the necessity of a trusted setup (which zcoin also had but due to the visibility of the money supply detecting a compromise would be arbitrary)?

The knee jerk reaction I'm expecting is that "it's more anonymous because you cannot see the transaction values" but this is a moot point imo because the whole purpose is to cryptographically break the transaction history which is achieved by both.

Isn't it true that the extra lengths zcash goes to is more like 'security theatre', just like when the zcash founders burned the computer which generated the master private keys. Yeah it looked nice but... so what?

In summary then, why would someone pay 100x more for an equivalent feature found in another coin? Apart from undetectable fraud and higher resource consumption what does zcash offer over zcoin?

Also check out the zcoin and zcash roadmaps respectively.

ps
Don't give me that 'topological analysis' c**p bacause you can see the amounts, you cannot follow coins around in the zcoin blockchain, it's impossible which is why zerocoin was described as perfect money over 3 years ago.

I'm not trying to troll, I'm genuinely intrigued as to what the zcash community knows that I don't?

pps
zcoin is not a zcash clone, in fact zcoin is older than zcash because it was launched ~1 week earlier.

Your questions should be directed at the Zcash team,  however since we are using Zcash as the backbone of our crypto I will attempt to answer your concerns.

You are forgetting who you are revealing yourself to in the description of "cleaning" coins.  In Bitsquare, p2p exchange is done with an escrow (arbitrator).  The escrow (arbitrator) "knows" that you have sent the zcash and the escrow "knows" someone sent the bitcoin to be exchanged. Get enough corrupt arbitrators who are collecting data and they can start piecing together data linking groups of transactions.  Komodo, through EasyDex and atomic swaps will allow you to conduct the "cleaning" all in one wallet and without the need of an arbitrator.  Also unlike Bitsquare,  trade pairs are not all linked to btc,   you can exchange any bitcoin compatible for any other bitcoin compatible.

The extensive process of the trusted setup was to not only reduce the chance of the key being assembled after parameter generation  but the calm down the unnecessary FUD surrounding the minuscule potential of it be reassembled.   Perhaps they went a little overboard,  but I'd rather have increased security than the mentality of  " good enough".

Not seeing the transaction values has several effects:  It makes transaction linkage impossible and prevents mantissa attacks.   A mantissa attack is linking transactions through a pattern of numbers beyond the decimal point.   For instance, if I am looking at the blockchain and I see 1.4444444444  being sent again and again,   despite the possible differences in addresses,  I can have a greater than average assumption that the different addresses sending that specific amount are the same person.   This combined with other analysis techniques can give up the anonymity of an individual.

Why did people pay ridiculous prices in the opening days of Zcash,  limited supply + hype + misguided assumption of demand = people being dumb with their money

Komodo brings to the table additional functionally internally through Delayed Proof-of-Work  and PAX/Assetchains  as well as externally through EasyDex/Instantdex  , Iguana,  Jumblr and in the future  through "Gecko" smart chains,  PAX2 and other future projects.

CAn i purchase BitcoinDark after the ICO & still recieve Komodo at the specified rate?

WHat is the deadline for the swap?

you can do and right now buying btcd at 0.0042 is better than what you get at the 35% bonus Wink

i also want to know when the swap is done need to get my btcd on my wallet then

I need to know also. I want to trade my BTCD for KMD.

The swap from BTCD to Komodo will be available for 1 year after the ICO has finished.
Details TBA

If you wish to claim REVS asset,  have your BTCD in your personal wallet  before end of ICO.  Snapshot will be conducted after ICO has concluded approximately 1-2 weeks.
Further details will be announced after ICO.

Whats up with the komodoplatform website?
It says im banned from the site.
Is that just me, or anyone else having the same issue?

I have had that issue before,  it sometimes stems from connection reset errors.   It worked for me trying after waiting some time.

Hello,

i want to host a komodo notary node like discribed on github. I decided to ask my questions here, because maybe someone else is looking for these informations:

- As far as i understood, komodo notary nodes will "mine" komodo coins by pushing the transactions into BTC blockchain. Is this true?
- It is discribed, that the node will need min. 64GB of RAM -> are 32GB or 48GB also working or are the scripts such big?
- What CPU is needed? Is it a most likely RAM based application or CPU/HDD?
- Should the server have much storage for eventually very big db.logs / transaction logs?

Maybe someone can help me out Smiley
Thank you, seems like one of the most promising current projects out there.

Answers to your questions:

1)   Komodo Notary Nodes use proof-of-work on its own chain and generates new komodo through that.   DPOW ( Delayed Proof-of-Work ) is a separate function that submits notarized data to Bitcoin's blockchain,  this is independent of Komodo mining rewards.

2)  64GB RAM is preferred.   Several reasons for this.   a)  Komodo mining is done with Equihash algorithm,  which is memory-intensive.  b)  Notary nodes will be running multiple block chains at once,  these block chains are Zcash clones, meaning also memory intensive.

3)  CPU required has some leeway,  just make sure it is somewhat modern.   Primarily   High RAM and SSD  are required

4)   500GB SSD Storage minimum

Announcement

Two-factor authentication is now possible on our ICO site.

This feature is a bit late, sorry for the delay!

Another Announcement

We have finished our second whitepaper! It will be published on Saturday.

It's titled: "EasyDEX – A Practical Native DEX"

Soon anyone can use the Iguana wallet & EasyDEX GUI to store and trade other cryptocurrencies decentrally. That is our vision and that is what we have been developing.

Will this DEX have a mobile app?

Yes, I believe EasyDEX GUI has a mobile version too.

@grewalsatinder can confirm that Smiley

The EasyDEX-GUI is HTML code. Adjustable to all screens from Desktops, Tablets to Mobiles. EasyDEX-GUI is the front-end, user friendly view for end users.

The second part, and most important part is iguana core. iguana core is backend. It is the binary which provides backend APIs used by the front-end user interface EasyDEX-GUI.

iguana binary has been tested on Linux, OS X, Windows, and android in earlier versions of development. But, first we need to have iguana and Komodo to be on stable stages before we concentrate on mobile platforms. As we reach enough stable stages, a native iguana binary packaged for android app can be expected.

I am anyway also spending time in debugging iguana binary for android time to time and report back any bugs or errors found in android version to core developer (jl777). So, hopefully when the right time comes we make Android Mobile version of EasyDEX App without much difficulties.

In stages expect first Desktop wallets to be stable, and then tablet/mobile support to come afterwards.

Hope this clears.

Satinder

I'd prefer a mobile first experience and not as an HTML website. The next problem is hosting the Iguana node. I don't want to host an Iguana node to trade on the DEX. My favorite DEX is currently indiesquare. I understand this is really early on and it'll take time but I want it right now today!

May be you got confused with something.

Nothing needs to be hosted online. Everything running locally. Just like an App.

I'd never host some crypto project locally. Too many risks with viruses and privacy. I always rent a VPS and host it there. My preference though is to trust someone like the creators of this project to host the nodes for me and allow lots of people to simply use this DEX by opening up the app on their cellphone or going to a website.

I think there is some misunderstanding about the DEX that we plan to implement.   The purpose of our DEX is to allow cross-chain swaps as well as a local platform to interact with centralized exchanges.   This prevents access by a third party to your coins as in the case of storing them at a exchange.

Our DEX is NOT the same as XCP, NXT or colored coins implementations.

Also how can you launch a coin when you need this:

Quote
We are looking to hire a bigger team with the ICO funds. The size of the team depends on how much funding we raise.

If you are interested send a message to contact@komodoplatform.com. The job would begin at the end of the ICO.

The skills we are looking for:
- project managers
- GUI devs
- testers for command line API
- windows build specialists
- C devs

They should already have those persons in place... this smell like another RISE coins, they also profit out of cloning LISK and the price dropped like shit.

Komodo is currently being developed primarily by volunteers that are filling in the roles necessary to make this project a success.   We hope to hire individuals full time so that we can proceed full steam ahead with our roadmap.

KOMODO looks great and I'm in. I do have a related question, how are things looking for Supernet adoption and further development as it relates to KOMODO?

Thank you for your question. Komodo and SuperNET are making great inroads in both adoption and development.  One of the future features that will be part of the SuperNET ecosystem are Geckochains.  These are block chains that act as a singular Dapp acting as its own blockchain independent of the parent network.  This will allow developers to bring forth their own ideas to complement the existing ecosystem created by jl777 and the SuperNET team.

Progress is being made in the area of adoption as well.  Stratis has shown interest in possibly using Komodo's dPoW  to secure its network.    In addition,  there is an effort made by several Komodo testers called Indenodes  which aims at spread Komodo/SuperNET adoption in the French-Speaking world.

Here is a link to Indenodes:  https://steemit.com/introducemyself/@indenodes/indenodes-a-new-business-for-the-supernet-ecosystem

Other initiatives are being developed as well to further adoption and to provide auxiliary features for the Komodo ecosystem.

Because it just a photahop lol
Nothing is real in here just like other coins

Not photoshopped,  goto Github and download and try out Iguana for yourself.

Komodo is separate from zcash right?

Yes they are two different coins.   Komodo adds features that are not found in Zcash.

What are the features that it adds? I read that it uses the Bitcoin blockchain. There's no way for it to be traceable there right?

Features that Komodo adds by itself:

Delayed Proof of Work  -  submission of notarized hashes to maintain blockchain integrity of third party and self-generated chains.

Assetchains:   Create your own Zcash fork from command-line

Features SuperNET tech contributes:

DEX -  Decentralized Exchange
PAX -  Pegged Asset Exchange - speculate on the value of crypto and fiat currencies  relative to each other
Ramchains -  ultra fast blockchain syncing
Iguana -  Multiwallet that allows you to be a full node to multiple coins at once without draining computer resources tremendously
Basilisk -  Light Client that can be run simultaenously with Iguana for coins that one does not necessarily wish to support their network.

Future contributions

Gecko -  Create your own smart contract/ conditional logic based blockchain
Pangea -  Decentralized Poker
Jumblr -  Coin Mixer for transparent coins

and others  TBA

It submits data to bitcoin blockchain  it is not built on top of bitcoin  like Counterparty is.

The key point that people seem to overlook when it comes to the Komodo project  is that our technologies are already working.   Currently they are in the process of debugging and testing,  which if you ever built a program  understand that this is a very time-consuming process.

When you invest in this ICO you are not investing in vaporware or theoretical experiments,  this is live, working code.  This can be proven as well,  as our dPoW is currently submitting notarized data to Bitcoin's blockchain and can be viewed by a simple tx lookup on a block explorer.

We invite any and all to take a look at the code jl777 has been patiently developing for 2 years  and urge you to build komodo yourself so that you can see what it actually does and the functions and features contained within it.

Yeah the dev has successfully copied zcash technology. Now what? I dont see any real world use case for komodo. Zcash price will slowly decline to peanuts and so will the price of kmd. No reward for investors.

I would be very careful investing in any zcash copycat. A lot of dev want to take advantage if this zcash hyoe. Dont lose money in the zcash hype.

Real World Use Case #1 :  Securing weak blockchains
Real World Use Case #2 :  Creating your own blockchain
Real World Use Case #3 :  Pegged Assets and Futures Trading
Real World Use Case #4 :  DEX  along with associated ledger
Real World Use Case #5 :  Fungible Currency
Real World Use Case #6 :  Blockchain Services  ( Sandboxed smart contracts, File Integrity services and others )

Wait a minute, what is komodo and why suddenly involved with zcash? why komodo says : come and invest in zcash ico?

Komodo is a fork of Zcash.  We contain all of Zcash's technologies,  including zk-SNARKS,  in addition we bring to the table our own technology which is built on top of that coin.

Zcash conducted it fundraising through venture capital it was not possible for the average person to get in on the ground floor ( Founder's Reward).

Komodo on the other hand is a crowdfunded project  which does not discriminate who gets to participate in the ICO and who doesn't.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: October 30, 2016, 06:33:23 AM
I watched the first video interview and still have no idea what this is... or why it is needed...

The purpose of Komodo is to secure other blockchains.    In the video I attempted to describe the risk associated with starting your own chain.  In short if a blockchain does not have adequate security either through diversified hashing power or diversified coin supply in the case of PoS coins it is quite possible and feasible for a malicious actor to "take over" a blockchain.   Komodo's dPoW prevents this hostile takeover through a process of notarization which is similar to multisignature but has some fundamental differences.  By submitting the notarized blockhashes of third party coins to be recorded in Bitcoins blockchain a reference point is created to determine validity of the chain.  History of these third party chains will not be able to be altered by an attacker because legitimate nodes can reference our notarized submission.

dPoW  is integral for many our technologies to be secure and functional.   Assetchains for instance  are a "blockchain-on-demand"  service,  an altcoin in its own right.  One of the barriers for blockchain entrepeneurs is the high cost of securing the coin either through recruiting miners or  mining themselves.  dPoW allows for chains with limited resources in these areas to be secure.

By having these secure assets applications can be developed to use them.  Our PAX is a great example of this.   Each fiat token represented is a blockchain that is secured through our dPoW method.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: October 28, 2016, 02:03:35 PM
So in immediate term, Zcash founders/dev/etc. team get 20% of available coins Komodo founder/dev/etc. team get 10% of available coins?

No one personally gets 10 %, they all go towards development just like the BTC we raise in the ICO does. The 10M KMD coins are part of the capital we will have.

Point is, in both cases there'll be an "overhang" of founder/dev dumpable supply - 20% in Zcash's case, 10% in yours.

The cases are different.   The 20% going to Zcash's Founder Reward are also divided amongst the initial private investors,  whereas our 10%  goes towards development  as well as bounties such as the signature campaign.  Komodo's  10% coin holdings are NOT being divided amongst the team and will be used as working capital for the project.   This is a significant difference.
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: October 28, 2016, 03:07:17 AM
some questions
(sorry lost track here for a sec)

- ICO over ?
- when are komodo payouts ? (is there a wallet available ?)
- Notarynodes ? are they like Dash Masternodes ? (payouts and such- anybody can run one ?)

tx

1) ICO is still in progress  until November 20th
2) Mainnet will be live 2 weeks after ICO finishes wallet will be available and you will be able to withdrawal your coins then.
3) Anybody can technically be a notary node provided that you have good enough hardware, participate in the #notarynode  channel of the SuperNET slack and receive enough votes when the election is held.   Notary Nodes are different than Dash's Masternodes,  Notary nodes primarily do the mining in Komodo where Dash Masternodes are complementary to Dash mining.

You can update your calculators!

35% bonus 500 BTC
30% bonus 0 BTC
25% bonus 980 BTC
20% bonus 606.84 BTC
Unfortunately I missed the earlier bonuses but I wont miss now and get %20  Smiley

I did not understand why no one has availed the 30% discount period , wow such a wasted opportunity.

30% bonus was for angel investors  who invested 250 to 500 BTC before ICO launch.   No angel investors were in this category.
