@EricBalchunas
Damn, the fee for BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF will be 0.30% as per their just filed S-1. This is much cheaper than I predicted. Life just got a LOT tougher for everyone else. The ETF Terrordome is no joke.

https://twitter.com/EricBalchunas/status/1744323345502384325

@EricBalchunas
But wait, ARK just dropped their fee to 0.25% in an S-1 filed 20 minutes after BlackRock’s. Told y’all the fee war would break out bf they even launched. And this is w out Vanguard on the mix. Damn.

https://twitter.com/EricBalchunas/status/1744324547690586404

This is the kind of updates I would release only in the final hours before the green light. Management fees are the main weapons for ETF issuers.
I wouldn't have expected so low fees.

Me neither. It looks like the competition has already started. All signs indicate there will be a party in 2 days!  Wink

I hate to hear about the Coke addition, even if you admit it.  There are likely ways to drink something else, even carbonated water.. and yeah, it will not have the same effect.  Maybe go to 1 coke per week and then 1 per month and then maybe no cokes for a year or more... and then maybe you might consider if you want to come back to them..  It's like people drinking redbull and knowing that they are addicted and knowing that there are harmful ingredients.

I did not really drink coffee in my youth, but then I did go through some phases in my 20s and 30s, but then I would also get irritated when I was around people who insisted that they had to have coffee before they could do anything, and so maybe that was not nice behavior from me.

I did go through many years that I was drinking coffee but I was adding Bailys to it and butter and heavy whipping cream.. and then I started to NOT add bailys to it and then I started to think that drinking so much coffee was turning my teeth yellow... and maybe messing with my sleep.. so I stopped the daily coffee around June, and it seems to be better for the teeth.. and using that whitening toothpaste... .. but surely my teeth mouth and breath are not as nice as it was when I was younger, so sometimes it is tempting to just go back to drinking coffee, but I am going to stick it out a bit longer.. and just consider it as a once in a while thing rather than part of my used-to-be daily routine.. and by the way, I probably was doing the baileys, butter and heavy whipping cream for close to 10 years..and I was thinking that it was good for me.. but I think there was too much of a glucogenetic effect.

[...]

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I agree with you about Coke. It's an obviously bad habit that I should try to kick. Fortunately, my health is fine so far, and my teeth are in perfect condition, fully white and healthy (a genetic thing, I guess, took it from my father). I take good care of them, of course, visiting the dentist every 6 months for cleaning, always brushing twice/day, etc.

Carbonated water is a good solution to the Coke addiction, coupled with coffee for the caffeine effect and the taste, or maybe ice tea and other natural stuff. In this way I can get the tingling sensation of the carbonation (the main attraction to drinking Coke for me), while avoiding the bad stuff (sweeteners, flavorings). It's a matter of discipline and determination. Got to take it seriously...

There may be zero calories in Coke Zero but the artificial sweeteners in diet/zero drinks are more difficult for our body to process. It's advisable to take carbonated drinks as little as possible.

You can do mineral water that is carbonated, and that is o.k. It is the ones with sweeteners (or non-sweeteners or whatever extra flavorings) that are bad for you.

Agreed, as explained above. I've tried to do it in the past, worked for a while, then I relapsed. Maybe this discussion is a good opportunity for me to give it another shot. Well, at least it's not as harmful as alcoholism (I don't like alcohol, I do drink on occasions, but there's no alcohol at home, not even beer -- no need for it, no desire to take it). Also, I've never smoked, and never wanted to.

Saturday post. OK let's talk flicks.

I haven't found anything worthwile recently, except Sisu.  A one-against-the-nazis gory cartoon set in Finland during WW2, halfway between John Wick and Tarantino.  Shallow and enjoyable.

7/10, maybe 8/10 if it bears re-watching in a couple years or so.

Fully agree. I highly recommend Sisu (2022). I think I may have posted about it here in WO a while back.

Solid entertainment. 0% talk, 100% action.

Definitely re-watchable.

How do y'all take your coffee when chart watching?
I usually do a sugar and splash or milk/heavy whipping cream but Im out of sugar!  So I did manage to find a bag of brown sugar and tried it. To my surprise it pairs well!

With sugar and milk. And drugs.

Fun fact: I’ve never had coffee. I did have a neighbor growing up who used to drink his coffee with mushrooms in the morning. I thought that was weird until I got older.

This could be the last week without an ETF approval. I feel like there’s a good chance we could see a massive price swing next week. There will certainly be big news one way or the other.

Since caffeine is considered a drug, anyone who drinks coffee everyday is technically a drug addict. Good on you for staying clean Tongue

Mushrooms and coffee? I don't think my stomach could keep that down.

I gave up coffee for a few months.
You first get horrible withdrawal headaches, really different than a normal headache. It was quite a surprise as I only used to drink 1 cup of coffee per day and maybe 2 cups of extremely weak tea.

In the end it felt like it made no real difference to me as coffee only gives me a calm short energy boost and never interfered with sleep, and I actually only had negative effects giving it up, such as more irregular bowel movements that were a bit harder to endure also.

I also spoke to my doctor about caffeine a few years ago and he reckons the whole "I stopped coffee and this is what happened..." YouTube viral stuff is just a fad and exaggerated nonsense mostly.

As long as you don't drink more than 1-5 cups of coffee per day or so I doubt it has a significant effect on your health.
Like anything, excessive consumption of anything will cause problems somewhere.

Also, black coffee has virtually no calories so it works well with a diet etc.

I drink 2 large cups of coffee per day and non caffeinated rooibos/redbush tea.
All with sweeteners.
These are not necessary perhaps and some people reckon they are cancerous garbage.

Still, I reckon this is much less worse than excessive alcohol or smoking.

Since going back to coffee, I actually really enjoy the process of making filtered coffee.
I have an old fashioned filter machine (with the paper filter things).

Interesting topic.

I was never a coffee person, contrary to 99% of the rest of the population, it seems. I may drink coffee when out with friends, or sometimes I would take hot/cold chocolate instead. About 2 years ago I started drinking coffee regularly at work, using a Nespresso machine. I usually use 2 capsules to cover a day (espressos, even lungos, are so low in quantity).

As for caffeine intake, I take plenty. Not from coffee, but from Coca-Cola. I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I'm addicted to it. It's of the "Zero" variety, so there are no calories, but there is caffeine (and other chemicals). I think I may have become immune to it by now, I don't sense any caffeine effect by drinking or not drinking coffee, as long as I take my daily fix of Coke.

Thinking of getting a filter machine at home like the one you have. I like the taste of that coffee. And the ritual of making it.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

Don't even bother. 2 hours wasted.

3/10, and I'm being too generous to this boring, recycled, predictable, Hollywood horror flick.

Taking it off my rental list after what you wrote.

Hollywood has become pretty pathetic in many ways. Look at the director of the upcoming Star Wars Rey movie.
They are off their heads. Completely lost the plot to the point they think it's fun irritating the last remaining fans.

I think when things became too easy for them (unlimited money for the execs) things turned to shit mostly.
The original blockbuster movie makers laid foundations during difficult circumstances (Spielberg / Lucas / Cameron), often having to
compromise and make things work with a limited budget which made them more creative, instead of less.
Those days are gone.
There are still a few gems in amongst the sea of lazy attempts. I enjoyed Top Gun Maverick in 2022 and John Wick 4 and Gran Turismo in 2023.
If you want horror check out Pearl, which was decent (made by A24) or The Black Phone (by Universal which appears to be subscribing less to the woke agenda and thus I think will survive).

However, the most impressive movie for me recently has been Godzilla Minus One.
Delivered with so much passion and conviction. It doesn't even matter it's in Japanese.
Epic movie, great ideas with some superb shots.
A rare one that gets better the more often I watch it.
Damn perfect movie really.
It seems to have some of the best inspiration from Spielberg that I have seen that almost surpasses the originals
(Jaws & Jurassic Park mostly, even a hint of Saving Private Ryan is in there).

Well said.

Not much to add to the above. I find myself watching foreign (non-English) movies more often lately. Hollywood seems to have saturated and succumbed to the woke virus, or recycling/reselling old successes.

Thanks for the recommendations, will check them out. Pearl is already on my to-watch list. Never heard of The Black Phone (I like the title, will be watching this tonight I think). I liked the John Wick series (can't remember which ones I've watched), will check out John Wick 4. Will definitely be watching Godzilla Minus One, it looks very promising, and coming from Japan is a plus.

Just noticed there's a Saw X (2023). Based on the cover, it seems like typical Saw material, which could be enjoyable if well executed. 6.6/10 on IMDb looks worth watching.

The BTC halving is now less than 100 days away.

New ATH incoming?

x

Mathematically, the projection of these number series is $36280 by halving, but I don't want to believe this number (too small).
If by a % of prior ATH, the repeat of prior 'arrangement' (between the prior ATH in 2017 and 49% of it at halving in 2020) is even slightly smaller at $34236, which also feels a bit low.

IMHO, 45-55K is where we should 'aim' at.

Unfortunately, math & science don't care what you (we) believe.

But Bitcoin is a stochastic system, so, in some sense, we are allowed to believe what we want (within bounds). On ETF approval, I believe we'll settle around $50k as a worst-case scenario, with an open top, reaching ATH and beyond, if a FOMO pump is started.

Whatever happens, 2024 will be a breath of fresh air, much needed after the last few years' relatively boring price action.

JustIN Bieber: Exceptional Trustworthy Females (ETFs) win approval.

AI? (can't see knuckles)

Of course it is. I said Trustworthy...

Gorgeous. Give me a fully functioning robot like this and I can dump my GF any day.

See my edit above. AI is getting (too) intelligent.

JustIN Bieber: Exceptional Trustworthy Females (ETFs) win approval.

AI? (can't see knuckles)

Speaking of AI, yesterday I spotted a video on YouTube, supposedly a PBD podcast, interviewing Michael Saylor about Bitcoin. Was a live stream. 30 minutes in, Saylor can be seen speaking normally, in his own voice, facial expressions and all, same background as the podcast, and what's he doing? He's promoting the popular "scan QR code, send Bitcoin, receive double in return" scam! Saylor speaking naturally in his own voice. Video is already down, but I was amazed at how AI can imitate someone like this. When you know it's fake, you can spot little distortions in his face while speaking. But for a naive newbie who doesn't know Saylor and this type of scam, they can easily fall prey to this!

In the coming years we'll be seeing famous people engaged in all sorts of unlawful/immoral acts, and we won't know if it's AI or the real thing.

I am mentally ready for a 10K daily up-candle...soonish.

[...]

It could come VERY soon, depending on the outcome of the ETF approval (or lack thereof).

For now, it seems we're stuck @ $43-44k due to the recent Matrixport FUD, courtesy of Jihan "fuck your mother" Wu, but things are moving so fast it's probably irrelevant.

We could be looking at $50k in the weekend, if a few big ETFs get approved.

Regardless, the Halving is coming in a few months, so there's no need to worry. Now or later, it WILL come.

Onwards & upwards.

Who runs ChartBuddy?

I am planning to run my own bot in a similar way, and I have some questions about how to log with a bot. I am have problems with captcha!

I have memorization problems, but it seems to me that brother RichieT is the one you're looking for.
Sorry if i was wrong, though.

I remember you've mentioned before that you have some memory issues, am I right? I just now realized that your nickname "OutOfMemory" may be related to this. It's fun/interesting to speculate about each of us by analyzing our nicknames.

BTW, yes, I think the creator of ChartBuddy is Richy_T (correct spelling).

Apparently, David Hasselhoff reacts to acceleration faster than his passenger... So funny!

I remember I was hooked on that show.

All I remember from Knight Rider is a music refrain and lights...those lights...oh my!

Yes, those lights going back and forth left-right. And the music. I was glued to the TV every time it aired.

Looks like the recent Matrixport ETF rejection article could be FUD... In any case, there will be legal implications if the ETF applications are rejected, which won't be pretty for the SEC/Gensler.
