We are at 16.  If you are not panic buying you are missing the boat imo.

What is your backstory?  I hear you post about your stolen bitcoins and now some one wants to kill you.  There must be an interesting story behind this.

Very useful yet disheartening topic for me as I am UK based am setting up my first bitcoin-related business.

What I don't understand is why does it matter if your business is risky?  It is not like you are applying for a loan or even an overdraft, it is just a bank account.  Worst case scenario if bitcoin collapses is your business is over and the profits left in your bank account won't grow any larger.

The way I see it, your best bet is to simply say you are mining bitcoins and just pay capital gains tax on it if you pass the threshold.

Blatchcorn, I spoke to a BTC specialist accountant/financial adviser last week:

http://www.nowellassociates.co.uk/bitcoin   a grand lady Norma Nowell, they have many BTC business clients in UK but mainly eastern European countries, we discussed UK regs and tax issues. But she told me about smile/Co-operative bank and suggested they are BTC friendly at least more so than our other banks. I will be meeting with their branch manager on Tuesday.

I'm treading carefully because don't want to get flat "No" wrt to business banking with them, for my purposes just a simple Current Account might serve me well, there IMT's are fairly competitive too, for overseas exchange funding (8GBP).

Will try asking them about BTC perhaps at a later date. But I would suggest you do the same for your business, perhaps find a branch in neighboring town, lock-in a meeting and discuss Bitcoin to hearts content. Alternatively you could call their business group http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/corporate/customerservices/contactus/phone-us#generalnumbers

All goes well, they might be happy to open a Business Account for your BTC enterprise Smiley

Thanks a lot mate.  Really appreciate the advice.  Good luck with your meeting

1606  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price if Amazon Accepts Bitcoin on: May 31, 2014, 08:56:17 PM
I don't understand those who say it wouldn't affect the price much, if at all. I think it would be one of the biggest triggers for a price spike that BTC has seen to date & as someone else said, it would almost certainly prompt others such as eBay to follow suit.

Absolutely. Bitcoin is functioning wonderfully as a (volatile) store of value in exactly the way you would expect from a scarce commodity money.

What happens next is the increasing utility of bitcoin as a spendable currency with progressive integration into the internet as a form of payment. Amazon or paypal integrating bitcoin would be a massive confirmation move for the fledgeling currency, leading other firms to do likewise or get left behind by the savings bitcoin offers over conventional credit card payments. Discounts may be offered for using bitcoin as an incentive to online customer. Its sudden ubiquitous appearance all over the internet as a form of payment will also alter the public perception of bitcoin (largely driven by a negative mainstream media).

Companies like circle and coinbase, facebook integrating wallets etc, Winklevoss ETF's will all hopefully be coming online later this year. Just in time for the next (perhaps too) predictable upswing in bitcoin prices.

How anyone could think that the largest internet companies in the world taking bitcoin would not be massively bullish for both bitcoin and bitcoin prices is beyond me. It will legitimise bitcoin in the eyes of the masses and bring huge numbers of new potential users to the currency. What happens when people expect a huge number of new people trying to buy into a scarce commodity? The market front runs it. The price will probably go insane.
This.

We will return to this thread when it happens and laugh at the bears
1607  Economy / Speculation / Re: Too many people are short term bullish, rather than long term bullish. on: May 31, 2014, 04:16:59 PM
I was reading a forum post when the price was around 30. Many predicted the price to be 1000 in 2016 (and did not predict even 100 so soon).

Now, most posters are talking about 2000-5000 next year. Is this short term bullish thinking healthy for the main goal of cryptos (alternative option)?

Is it better to think term bullish (x amount by 2016 etc) for a more steady growth in the community?

Thoughts appreciated.

Bitcoin needs that fast raises to gain global attention and adoption.

I don't believe it does. These fast raises seem to bring a way too big amount of "gamblers" rather than serious investors.
Yeah to be fair fast rises normally mean fast crashes too.  Nothing beats long steady growth really for serious investors that have other people's pensions at stake

Don't forget to put QR codes with your address on flyers, business cards, album covers and your website etc.
1610  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price if Amazon Accepts Bitcoin on: May 31, 2014, 09:38:45 AM
It might not affect the price at all as the price is mostly controlled by an accumulation/distribution cycle of whales.
Roll Eyes

Would you be willing to place a 0.5 BTC bet?

If the price goes up during the 24 hour period after Amazon announces they are accepting bitcoin, you give me 0.5 BTC.

If the price goes down or remains exactly unchanged during the 24 hour period after Amazon announces they are accepting bitcoin, I give you 0.5 BTC.

If Amazon never accepts bitcoin, the bet is void.
No. My post starts off with "it might", meaning it's not something I'm betting on as a certainty. In addition, the terms of your bet are ridiculous in betting that the price wouldn't increase at all during the day - bitcoin price is very volatile and could rise a little due toe the volatility or due to the rally that is currently going on without neccessarily being the effect of Amazon news.
This bet is no less ridiculous than your bearish stance on Amazon accepting bitcoin

I think we have to conclude that Veronica has an excellent sense for highs and lows, she bought high and sells low. Wish I had that skill.

I sincerely believe we can learn a lot from the Veronica's!
Yup  Smiley
I am waiting for her to buy back in as a sell indicator
1613  Economy / Speculation / Price if Amazon Accepts Bitcoin on: May 31, 2014, 09:16:29 AM
Hypothetically, if Amazon announced that they were accepting bitcoin today, how high would the price go?

We are at optimism

1615  Economy / Speculation / Re: post your average price of buying back in - 2014 ONLY on: May 30, 2014, 10:23:47 PM

Sure sure, energy, cells, I get it duder. Incidentally, which language was the tree speaking in?

English.

With an Olde Worlde rural West Country accent.

If you must know.

Mat , is there a small or huge difference between fly agaric mushrooms and average magic mushrooms, meskalin, LSD.
I tried almost everything, but never considered fly agaric as very interesting. I am also aware of your described paranormal phenomenons.
Do i need to try them? Have you ever tried to trade on psychedelics, you will get a horrible performance only trading on dissociativa is worse.
Amphetamin and Opiate however increase my day trading skills massive.
In all of my high dose psychedelic, ketamin whatever dreams, i see nothing else but a horrible crash for Bitcoin even if the trip is generally of a positive nature.
Hahaha
Keep up the good effort Fonzie. Must be hard spreading FUD these days.

According to Peter_R's Metcalf Law model, the bitcoin price is proportional to the square of the number of transactions. An increase of 3.2x in bitcoin transaction quantity supports a 10x increase in bitcoin price. Currently, transaction volume is about 60,000 daily. To support prices 1000x greater than today we need transaction growth 31.6x greater. That works out to 1.9 million transactions per day. Is that doable in three years?
You mean like 22 transactions per second, or 13200 transactions per block, with about 6.6Mb each?

Not possible by this metric alone, so maybe on-chain Bitcoin will not reach 1M USD in the next 3 years?

Also current price growth suggests a price of 3.67M USD in exactly 3 years, something has to change for this to be possible.
Can you provide a source or chart for this please?
