1601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we review 2019? Please leave few things you achieved or lost in crypto on: January 02, 2020, 08:10:25 AM
The main change imo is people's attitudes towards small cap coins.

They used to be incredibly hyped up and sought after, but now demand has subsided significantly. Nobody is dumb enough to believe in the hype of these projects anymore, to be it bluntly. As a result, a lot of the ICOs that are currently running are struggling to raise funds.

I guess my personal change in response to this wider, macro change is putting less emphasis on soughting out new projects, because there is simply a sore lack of quality ones.
1602  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ponzi scheme and Bitcoin on: January 01, 2020, 07:22:52 AM
Would the collapse of a Ponzi scheme effect the price of Bitcoin?
Though a hypothesis that the collapse of the Chinese Plustoken, a classic Ponzi scheme similar to bitconnect or countless others affected the price of Bitcoin, this seem to be accceptible although it's unlikely to be the major factor but distribution of stolen funds correlate very well with market downturns.

Perhaps in the short term, if the scheme is very widespread and there is millions of investors.

However in the long run there should be no tangible effects on bitcoin's development nor price. We've seen the collapse of Bitconnect and that I think did not even trigger any short term detrimental effects let alone any long term ones.

You're overworrying I think. Most people already distance these ponzis from BTC in their minds. Besides it is unlikely that ponzi operators would be dumping their proceeds all at once on the market straight away.
1603  Economy / Speculation / Re: When is the perfect time to sell BTC? on: January 01, 2020, 05:27:41 AM
I am holding BTC from long time ago. And this time BTC going up can I sell now with this price? Or I can wait for more days?

We're barely up from the $7k support level. I highly suggest that you keep holding.

There is really nothing to be gained by dumping right now. The downside risk is very low in my opinion since the $7k support has been tested 2-3 times now, and it has held up decently well each time that it has been tested.

While the upside is high, since you've seen how BTC can rally extremely quickly when markets get reason for optimism with its ascension to $14k earlier this year. Obviously, that was unsustainable, but you do get the point.
1604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next Bitcoin Halving will drive the price down... on: January 01, 2020, 05:01:03 AM
Next Bitcoin Halving will drive the price down because the ecological system in which Bitcoin lives will be reduced.
More miners will bail, and it is the miners who are the bone marrow that creates the life blood of block chain.

Thoughts?

Except history has shown us time and time again that this is simply not true. The last halving, and the halving before the last halving all resulted in significant gains in price for BTC.

Based on market expectations alone it should be sufficient to say that there will at least be a resurgence in bullish sentiment, if not anything else.

BTW, isn't hash rate climbing at this current moment? I recall seeing an article yesterday about how bitcoin hash rate has been climbing consistently. The newfound scarcity of coins after the halving will result in price hikes that will likely push miner rewards up in fiat terms anyhow.
1605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this really a good plan? on: January 01, 2020, 12:41:35 AM
Absolutely. Bounties are generally a waste of time.

Especially when you work so hard and then they completely backstab you with KYC requirements that were never mentioned in the first place, that is the extent of the dishonesty that is involved with altcoin bounties in this current climate.

Anyhow, unless you thoroughly enjoy what you are doing, the rewards are barely worth your time.
1606  Economy / Lending / Re: 0.40 BTC NEEDED AS AN LOAN collateral avalible on: December 31, 2019, 10:38:21 PM
This person is trying to sell their Thorecoin here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5213956.msg53489040#msg53489040

It seems to me like this is a collateral scam. I've encountered scams in the form of fake ERC20 tokens before personally and this may be one of them.

There is no reason for OP to provide such high amounts of collateral, if he were to be legit.
1607  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there something simple like Stripe but for crypto payments? on: December 31, 2019, 03:01:17 AM
Hi !
Everything is in the title.
I am looking for something very simple to allow all crypto payments in my website.
I am looking for something that works fine with javascript and modern websites in general.
Can anybody help ?
Thank you

Bitpay and coinpayments are you best bets, unless you can somehow build payment infrustructure yourself which from your post you're probably not willing to.

Although you have to be warned, Bitpay doesn't necessarily have the best reputation around here in terms of their reliability so you really need to take their claims with a grain of salt in mind.

I haven't really heard anything ultra negative about coinpayments, so I'd assume that they are safe to use although their brand is obviously a lot smaller than Bitpay's.
1608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: List of various bounty rewards made for easy reference on: December 31, 2019, 01:28:47 AM
Good stuff. Although I was just wondering based on what criteria do you accept a particular bounty onto your site?

Or is it just an arbitrary process in which you pick the ones that are worthwhile to be listed?

Also, not sure if BAT browser constitutes a bounty per se. They are really just a browser which offers rewards for using it, which is not a promo in the form of a typical bounty and I think the majority of people would agree with me on this one.
1609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will 2020 give new hope to Altcoin? on: December 30, 2019, 11:29:25 PM
2019 had been not so good for altcoins as this year has given us number scam projects and as a result, some of the genuine projects have been failed wherein people just pretended any projects with ICO as a scam. I think 2020 will bring new hopes and some good project in the market by considering 2019 as a learning area.

For sure. With the halving coming up and a potential ETH2.0 renewable I think that it is safe to say 2020's crypto prospects are much better than that of this year's at the very least.

However, just don't hold too much hope in having something the magnitude of 2017, because that clearly won't happen again.

And also expect bitcoin dominance to remain high, because BTC will be what's driving this round of bullish activities, not alts like 2017. Because institutional investors will be at the forefront of the market this time around.
1610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Price Analysis: Bear Market Ahead on: December 30, 2019, 11:13:13 PM
I don't see any reason why ether should be bearish in 2020, because ETH will have a fork ahead of it, and in general now ETH is almost at the bottom.

There isn't. And I think that there is reason to believe that due to the halving and the fork, ETH will see some bullish activity at last.

But you have to understand this was from late October, when we were still in the depth of the bear market, and the bottom was not found.

With BTC bottoming out at $7k and there being sizeable support there, as well as ETH having support at the 0.02 BTC level, I do think that there is reason for optimism more so now than ever this year imo.
1611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DeFi - decentralized finance on: December 29, 2019, 11:05:03 AM
Hello, I just learned something about DeFi, I would like to know your opinion about that. I am talking about MakerDao or Synthetix for example.

It is really 100% safe as it claims? It should be protected by smart-contract, but who knows if it is 100% without a bug? The problem is that you canīt reverse the tranaction when it happens and investors will loose their money. It looks like a good alternative how to leverage or hedge your position.I think that now it is the best time to learn something about it because you can easily grow your portfolio thanks to secured loans (it is not so likely that the Ethereum will fall by more than 50% to endanger your leverage position). Those who do not know anything about it, here is a good example: you can lock for example 1000USD in ETH to the DeFi smart contract and you will get loan worth 500USD (in Dai tokens), you buy more Ethereum and when price goes up, you will need to pay only 500USD to unlock your Ethers.

Also there were some DeFis that didnīt survive for example NuBits. Do you know about others one successful or unsuccessful?

You're absolutely correct. There is still a degree of trust involved in these protocols despite their name as DeFi.

I've personally seen other stablecoins that are supposedly decentralised completely fail to keep their value. Nubits is one of the prime examples, but also BitUSD, you can see huge fluctuations in value from time to time due to the illiquid nature of the markets.

Decentralised finance is kind of a buzzword being thrown around right now as well. So if you see any project that is advertising themselves as such, just think twice before buying into the hype.
1612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: xrp to 28$ on: December 29, 2019, 06:48:25 AM
While I'm not ruling out the possibility that this potentially could happen (given the fact that crypto markets are volatile as any), it's very unlikely.

You'd be looking at a more than 50x increase in price, when 2017 already brought about one of the biggest bull markets in history of cryptos in general. It's very unlikely that the scale of the last bull market can even be replicated, let alone be topped once again.

Especially when the trend seems to be decentralization rather than XRP, at least from a grassroot level.
1613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are Altcoins getting Boycotted? on: December 29, 2019, 12:11:57 AM

Bitcoin dominance is above 65% which is something unusual since Altcoins started getting more interest from investors. It also seems that this percentage is increasing steadily for quite some time now. This is not surprising since Bitcoin was the most profitable coin in 2019 and people don't take the risk investing in altcoins anymore, they realized that Bitcoin is less risky as the price almost always eventually recover afterwards when it comes to BTC.

So what  to do you think? Are altcoin getting boycotted, giving Bitcoin an increasing dominance from now on?

What do you mean by boycotted?

I don't think that alts are necessarily generating "hate" per se from the community. Rather, it's just that people have come to realise the majority of alts are indeed simply tools for founders to make their buck before exiting without further development.

This disillusionment within the market may be the reason why BTC dominance has increased so much in recent months.
1614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins or Utility Tokens? on: December 28, 2019, 09:52:59 AM
It depends on the project. I don't think that there is a definitive answer.

I personally am biased towards coins, especially when it comes decentralized coins. This is because I believe that the only function that a decentralized currency needs to fulfill is being exactly that - a currency. It doesn't need to provide any utility other than that, because a lot of times it is unneeded.

But at the same time, some coins are completely useless while other utility tokens, like Bittorrent, are actually useful.

It's all relative. Theres nothing absolute.
1615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your Recap for the year 2019 on: December 28, 2019, 09:31:27 AM
I actually got very excited for the start of this year, which I believe a lot of people did as well.

There were significant bullish prospects which certainly could not be ignored. However after the initial pumps there was a huge bull trap that led into a bear market for another few months now. I'm currently still dollar cost averaging my BTC buys which I think a lot of other rational actors are also doing at the moment.

Overall, not too great of a year but still a reasonable time to accumulate cheap BTCs. Get your hands in there while you still got the opportunity.
1616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read whitepaper, could you write a whitepaper in the future? on: December 28, 2019, 06:32:43 AM
I have a theory, if I can read cryptocurrency white papers, maybe in the long run I will be able to write a white paper, because by reading how they are initially written, their structure, technical explanations up to a point of view, and all the elements that a white paper has, I should be able to have notions to write one, what do you think?

Absolutely. Especially when you consider the fact that so many whitepapers these days are completely plagiarised and distributed for the sole purpose of trying to defraud unknowing investors that think their money is being put to good use.

It's absurd the amount of repetition that exists within altcoin WPs that yes, you will probably pick up the cues to write your own in the long run.

Whether or not anyone will bite is another question though.
1617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Purposes to play gambling, except being rich on: December 28, 2019, 05:29:08 AM
If your ultimate motive of gambling is to become rich, then you're an idiot.

Gambling in the long run has a negative expected value and anyone who has any amount of exposure to probabilities will know that this means in the long run, you will expect to lose more on aggregate than you win. It's also the reason the house has the incentive to take your bets.

Your main motive should be to keep yourself entertained. Nothing more.
1618  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH - Going to 70$? on: December 28, 2019, 01:24:21 AM
I doubt that it will be that bearish.

Despite the overall sentiment seemingly very grim, I doubt that this bear market will be longlasting at least anywhere near what you'd expect. Prices already slipped more than 80-90% from the past ATH and with the halving coming up, I don't think that it's rational to expect another 50% loss in price.

Either way though, ETH is something that long term I still believe in. They're still the groundwork of the majority of ICOs.
1619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Google banned ETH wallet and metamask android client on Playstore on: December 28, 2019, 01:07:59 AM
This is ridiculous.

Metamask is one of the most useful extensions out there, and its whole purpose is to protect consumers from scams and all. I'm not sure what other features the app version has ommitted or included but I doubt that it's anything malicious at all.

Clearly a targeted attack against crypto IMHO. Not cool.
1620  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which cryptocurrencies are highly undervalued these days? on: December 27, 2019, 08:25:33 AM
Bitcoin. In terms of alts, I do think that they will continue to slip in value until at least a few months into the next year until the bullish momentum starts picking up again.

I think that IOTA is one that could be potentially undervalued, but even then I don't believe that it'll make a bull run any time soon.

The alt markets are already quite saturated and I do have reason to believe as a result that BTC may fare better in the next bull market relative to alts.
