How does XRP play a role in what you just talked about? All I see is dollars.

Is there reason to be concerned that Ripple controls 100% (or very close to it) of its own currency?
XRP are not intended to be a currency, AFAIK. They are more of a spam prevention tool. Interesting... I guess I still don't understand Ripple very well then. Ripple isn't mined. Your argument is invalid.
But I wouldn't be surprised if Ripple surpasses Bitcoin both in distribution and usefulness.
Yeah, I realize that premine isn't technically correct. It still equates to the Ripple founders sitting on a pile of cash if XRP are traded for real money and they can sell them. Is there going to be some kind of specific exchange rate or promised buy-back?

Welcome to Mt. Gox, where numbers are made up and highs don't matter!
+tip 0.01BTC verify Ok, I can dream, can't I?

Last time this sort of thing was posted (which I believe was yesterday), the explanation was that retailers would want a low "last price" to be shown and sellers of Bitcoin would want a high "last price" to be shown, so they both have bots that fight each other over the "last price".

Thanks. Should have done some looking before asking, that was a bit obvious.

I know MtGox sweeps bitcoin addresses when you import private keys, but does it also sweep any new funds that arrive from the address after the fact?
Yes. Sure, those funds "arrive" to your account, but does it attempt to secure them by sending them to a new address immediately?
I'm not certain what the delay is between arrival at the address and sweeping. Probably less than an hour. Probably more than a microsecond. Perhaps someone with a better estimate will come along? Thanks. If no one chimes in, I'll do some of my own testing to determine how quickly it is done. The one time I tried it I found that large amounts were swept pretty fast, but it seems like small amounts (less than 0.00001 BTC) were taking a really long time. That may have changed since a year ago when I was playing around with it, so definitely do you own testing. Thanks for the details!

official forum staticsMale to Female Ratio: 2.9:1 and everyone has marked their biological gender ... TIL that at least 25% of the members on this forum are spam accounts. @ BitcoinWife - last time I saw a poll, there was something along the lines of 0.5% women vs 99.5% men here.

If not, does such a service exist?

Any guesses how I chose those 3 bitcointalk.org profiles..? Registration date and using 2 spaces after a period. yes, registration date, and user profile ids. Checked couple of hundreds of profiles that were opened after December 2010, hero / senior member, posts and post contents.. Yeah! No need to check any profiles prior to Dec2010, for Satoshi wasn't smart enough to do that if he/they/she/it knew beforehand that he was going into self-exile. You probably could scratch off that Utah guy, for I can't envision a coder with six wives. My money's on PW. We're very close to adding much improved Tor support to Bitcoin, so it will most likely be in 0.7.0. Among other things: - Support for running as and connecting to Bitcoin hidden services
- Peer exchange of Bitcoin hidden services
- Non-leaking DNS seeding via proxy
Mine's not. Satoshi went through extensive trouble to hide his identity, which means he likes to remain anonymous. Why would he suddenly want to be directly associated with the project with his full name as his username? I don't see such a change of character as likely. I'd be looking for someone who still hasn't publicly revealed their real names. That puts all three of the suspects that btcusr chose as out of hte running.

500 BTC for a Dell Inspiron? What am I missing?
The 17R is a nice laptop though - I have one, and can vouch for its niceness.

the truth is that the "hoarders" are what gives bitcoin power. They raise the price of bitcoin itself and that allows bitcoin to enter new worlds. It allows it to do things that it couldn't before. If a bitcoin was 100 instead of 30 it could even go to further heights because it would now be a viable option for more types of transactions.
Good point. Raising the market cap of Bitcoin increases the number of things that it can be used for. A very valid reason to value hoarders indeed...!

Thanks.
I often see the power of a computer listed in flops, and I just wanted to get an approximate conversion measure to know how useful they would be for btc.
It's a little bit like expecting to be able to predict a vehicle's MPG by what its top speed is. So much variability.

FLOPS = 12.7 * HASH. Generally speaking, and not entirely accurate. Bitcoin is 17 times more powerful than the world's most powerful supercomputer.
