Listed by order of importance

You definitely want ES File Explorer. It handles so much, and makes so many apps obsolete. It includes a media player, storage analyzer, application backup (get APKs), download manager, etc.

If you plan on watching movies, MX Player is the way to go. Great UI and supports all sorts of formats.

Google Authenticator for 2fa.

TeamViewer has a surprisingly usable interface.

I use Bitcoin Widget to watch the price.

Orbot is Tor on Android. With the proper system settings (under your WiFi network), you can get Chrome to connect through it.

Everyone has their own favorite keyboard; mine is Swype Beta (not available on the Play Store). Install Hacker's Keyboard alongside that.

Maybe you want an IRC client and APG for mobile bitcoin-otc stuff; you could also use TeamViewer for that.

Tasker for automation, AIDE for quick on-device app development (handy for programmers). Similarly, there's the kbox terminal emulator which can run quick sh scripts. Limbo PC Emulator can run Damn Small Linux within the device without root.

Screen Filter to go below the minimum brightness setting
Thanks!

Do you have an invite for Ingress? It looks interesting...

Sadly no, I've been playing forever but haven't been given that ability yet. I think you can sign up at ingress.com though.
Luckily, they have given me an invite almost immediately after asking for one!

I would love to revert but the installers of both 12.8 and 13.1 (and appearently even 13.4) always given an error for the AMD APP SDK Runtime. I also tgried uninstalling that in isolation and reinstalling it afterwards to no avail.

Packages for install
AMD APP SDK Runtime
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 10.0.938.2
Size: 90 Mbytes

Seems that  the several installs / removals corrupted something.
Do a fresh install of Windows and go for 12.8 straight away

I don't want to reinstall windows. Maybe I'll make a Linux bootable USB or refrain from mining then. AMD this is really bad ...

Truth is that the latest drivers are a real pain in the ass when it comes to mining.
I had several issues when trying to mine with the 13.xx series.
Do yourself a favor, waste less than an hour reinstall the damn thing and go straight for 12.8.
That's what I would do.
12.8 drivers crashed for me as well.

Did you buy it with bitcoins?
Nope.  Renewed my contract, and AT&T doesn't take Bitcoins yet.

S4, can be buggy.
But, it is a really good phone and I WOULD recommend to anyone who has came from a iphone.

Android, just seems right to me.
The must have app has got to be something bitcoin related right?
I think there's a few apps related to bitcoin you might want to check out.
Honestly, I don't really like it much.  I do like the bigger screen, and I do like the fact that there's no Apple store to block out all the Bitcoin wallets, but other than that, I kind of miss my old iPhone.

The keyboard is crap.  The iPhone keyboard would autocorrect everything, and do it perfectly 95% of the time.  Even after installing an aftermarket keyboard on this one, it still doesn't autocorrect some obvious ones, and never seems to autocorrect if you have an extra letter in what you were intending to write.

The interface is fairly laggy compared to an iPhone.  The iPhone is just so much smoother.  Google maps is much more laggy.  Games that shouldn't require much processing power, like Words With Friends, are laggy when moving the screen around and zooming in/out.

After using an iPhone, and now using an Android, I can definitely see what people mean when they say that Apple has the more refined product.  I miss that.  Sad  But alas - I will make the sacrifice at least until Apple gets it through their thick skulls that Bitcoin is not made by the devil.

I've been an iPhone user for a few years, and getting into the Android world for the first time.  Any must-have Android apps?  Bitcoin or non-Bitcoin related.

Also, can anyone tell me what the USB cable is called for the Galaxy S4?  I keep seeing MHL and 11-pin, but I'm not familiar enough with the terminology to be certain I am ordering the right cable online.
828  Economy / Goods / Re: Thinking about creating my own physical Bitcoin... on: May 11, 2013, 06:31:43 AM
I'm not sure what I'd do for markup.  If I used silver 1oz coins, I'd be looking at around $31/coin in variable costs plus the $5k fixed costs.  Add some profit in to recover the fixed costs and make it worth my time, and a 1 BTC coin at today's market price stamped with 1AAAAA address might cost an individual around 1.5 BTC.  Could cut that down to 1.3 BTC if I wasn't using silver.

And of course, the markup would be worse on the smaller coins... I might have a minimum order if I decide to do multiple denominations and sell 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 BTC coins.  Maybe I should denominate them as 100 mBTC, 200 mBTC, 500 mBTC?

I am glad to see interest in this!  I will move forward with the project as much as I can, until I have the funding to make it happen.
829  Economy / Goods / Re: Thinking about creating my own physical Bitcoin... on: May 11, 2013, 04:17:03 AM
I think it'd be awesome if you made the coins out of silver. That way they would retain some value AND be a collectors item even after they're spent.
Mmm, might be a possibility!  Especially if they were 1 BTC denominations...

I tried a whole bunch of drivers and a whole bunch of miners, and nothing ever worked on my machine (brand new install of W7).  I finally gave up.  I had the same problem though, they'd all just crash with a ".exe stopped working" message.
831  Economy / Speculation / Re: Please stop with the China hype on: May 10, 2013, 11:13:59 PM
unfortunately the average chinese annual family income is $25/ year. so each of them were only able to invest about 10 cents.

Huh

China GDP per capita = $10000

Family = 4 people

Therefore, average family income = $40000/year.

Where do you get $25/year from?
I was going to say, last I heard, Chinese factory workers were getting something like $3/hr, and companies were moving AWAY from China because their labor had become so expensive in recent years.

But think about someone in Rwanda getting hold of a cheap 3D printer, perhaps a whole village pooling their money to get one and spitting out a gun for every man woman and child in a village. The next time a warlord rolls in with his truck full of armed men to rape and pillage, they may be met by a village of armed citizens.

This. This right here. This is exactly what I was saying. The right to own weapons is the right to be free.
As has been said many times before, it puts a little old lady on (mostly) equal footing with a burly 250lb man.
833  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sending coins to trash -- probably the biggest threat to bitcoin on: May 10, 2013, 09:46:22 PM

I could see us breaking down Bitcoin 8 more decimal places when we have calculated that only about 10,000 BTC are left in existence.

Thanks for confirming that I have correctly interpreted the second point in SgtSpike's answer. Unfortunately, this now means that I have to go back to the drawing board and figure out at what point it would make sense to add more decimal places in order to avert an inflationary spiral that will eventually result from lost coins (if we ever succeed at building a flourishing BTC-based economy around the bitcoin protocol). Sad

I know that the issues I'm trying to bring to the miners' attention may appear somewhat odd at this point, but please take note of the inferences that I've made throughout this thread, as understanding them would prove essential in a miner's ability to take maximum advantage of the GOLD 2.0 era we're passing through right now. I don't think that it will be years before I can finally share (in layman's terms) what had clicked in my head after I came across one of Gavin's old tweets, back in 2011 (see a hard copy below). It's just I haven't yet found a professional writer (with background in bitcoin and economic theory) to help me put the right words on paper, so to speak. Why would I need a professional writer? Well, as some of you may have already noticed, any attempt that I take to construct a structural argument around BTC money supply (not monetary base units, a.k.a. raw bitcoins) it only seems to take everyone's attention away from the main points of that argument... It appear that I'm just not cut out for explaining intricate things in prose. Wink

So you're saying that converting $1 bills into pennies would also cause the USD to go into an inflationary spiral?

It's not that you're doing a bad job of explaining your arguments, it's that your arguments are bad.

What about me?Huh

I am dealing with you. No i didnt scam anyone i am angry about this

Here is you chance for public vindication. I sold you $300 in Amazon gift cards for BTC 2.6626 I sent you all the receipts for proof of validity. Send me the BTC and everyone will know.

Why would you send someone $300 that just joined 4 days ago, with like 20 posts?

You need to go back to school.
Maybe because he joined just 15 days ago and has like 15 posts.
836  Economy / Goods / Re: Bitmunitions.com - Secure ammunition re-seller that only accepts Bitcoins on: May 10, 2013, 08:08:09 PM
Not trying to be rude, but you skipped over my questions OP:

Also, how do we know you're legit?  Can you post pictures of the ammo boxes you have in stock?  Can you release your address, name or at least registered business name?  Posting cheap prices on fake ammo these days would be a great way to scam a lot of people out of money...

I would love to order from you if you are legitimately selling ammo.

Apologies thought I clicked them all. The main address I own is that of the warehouse and I cannot release that. However, I do have a mail box at 1250 14th Street, Box #112, Denver, Colorado 80217. My real first name is Craig and I will be getting a copyright/incorporation within the week hopefully to protect my assets.

Have had about 8 successful orders so far and processing 4 more at the moment. They should be dispatched as soon as possible.
Great, thanks!

I think this will certainly get some more people interested in BTC if you continue to offer ammo well below the going price like this, and are able to stay mostly in-stock.

What I don't get is this idea of resistance against the government. I get it if you are totally libertarian, but at the same time the people that talk about lax gunrights seem to support anti terrorism laws and a strong military. It is like "we are a state, we have the right to bear an army and kill everyone to remain free."
Because things like the Holocaust actually happened.  That's why.  It's not resistance against the government today, it's resistance against the government in the future in case we need it.

Why, exactly, does ANY exchange still run with a hot wallet?
840  Economy / Goods / Re: Thinking about creating my own physical Bitcoin... on: May 10, 2013, 06:59:52 PM
I would be interested. But a good idea to make a coin worth of cash value also is to gold plate it?
I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the feedback.

I love Casascius coins.  I think they are awesome, they deserve the attention they get, and I am now thinking about creating my own coins, similar in format to Casascius coins.

The big reason I want to do this is as a way to use some of the great firstbits addresses I have.  You could buy a coin with 1KILO on the back of it, and know that you can always look up the full address of that coin at blockchain.info (or firstbits.com when it is back up).  Or, buy a coin with 1KIRK on the back, redeem the coin by importing the private key into your Bitcoin client, and then use the address as your own (perfect if your name is Kirk?).

These coins would:
- have custom security level hologram on one side with private key behind it (~$5000 sunk fee)
- have elaborate design on the other side
- potentially have some sort of edging on the coin (like US quarters do)
- likely be 1.5" in size
- all be 1 BTC coins (1 BTC is held inside of the private key)
- all have premium firstbits addresses on them, such as 1SEXY, 1KIRK, 1KILO, 1STUD, 1MUSIC, 1AAAAA, etc

Decisions to be made:
- Design of hologram and coin face.
- Size of coin.
- Straight metal coin, or colored?
- Is 1 BTC too much or too little?
- NAME of the coin.

Your thoughts?  Would you be interested in such a coin?

Design: Casascius got it right the first time. Bitcoin logo, denomination, year minted. Maybe "In Satoshi We Trust"? Wink
Size: Probably around the size of a JFK half dollar: slightly larger than a quarter.
Color: Probably straight metal. Maybe consider making a few special edition ones in .999 silver? Other than that, probably nickel plated zinc or pure nickel.
Denominations: You might also want to consider BTC0.5 and BTC0.1, BTC1 is a nice novelty, but nobody is going to realistically trade in BTC1 increments.
Name: No idea
Yes, I agree Casascius coins were well designed!  I obviously need my own design, but general style/feeling, it would probably end up similar.  I was thinking a bit larger than a JFK half-dollar (1.2"), but perhaps you are right and that would be too large.

The biggest problem with denominations is how do I decide which address gets which denomination?  Should it be random, or selected by the customer, or attempt to select the best out of the bunch for the higher denominations?  I thought about it before, and didn't really want to let the customer select by denomination, as that would mean I would have to wait to apply a hologram until the coin was ordered.  If I don't apply them in a big batch, but instead one by one as they are ordered, I can see it leading to mistakes.  Mistakes are not acceptable in a project like this.  Maybe I could just do them in batches, and let the addresses fall where they will.
