People in charge aren't going to give up their power, not even for Satoshi himself.

Well, I guess he is then... Is he going to show the rest of us some solid proof?
|

He's not even using double spaces like Satoshi did.
This isn't even remotely reliable as proof or disproof and only muddies the water further. Stick with digitally signed messages. Nothing else short of this will be sufficient. Yap, and there's no need for such analysis, if he is really who he says he is, he can prove it cryptographically.

Given the current time in the United States, when most of the nation is asleep (between ~2am West coast and ~5am East coast), the fact that Gavin's blog has been updated during this time with a very significant blog post which hasn't been shared on his twitter etc, and the suspect and sketchy information on the "cryptographic proof" I personally am highly suspicious this is a hack and part of some ploy to manipulate the price to achieve some other end in the next few hours.
Will be very interesting to see whether certain people in the american bitcoin community will wake up and refute his claims in the next 12 or so hours.
And the plot thickens, although amusing I think it's unlikely, the guy would be arrested for all these fraud and hacking, but no doubt there's something odd with this all story.

The market cares to the tune of $12 (circa $50mn) as of the moment. I am thinking of buying the dip here.
Yeah I thought to sell, but then I declined. It's weird to know who he is, and I'm sure people are a touch nervous about him having 1 million bitcoin, but at the same time- before an unknown person had all those bitcoin. So at least we know who he is. And he has a pretty clear interest in helping bitcoin thrive, so, maybe it's better this way. At least we no longer need to deal with media reports about a "secret unknown hacker". On the other side, it might not be nice to have a public face of bitcoin. That said, other coins like litecoin or etherium do just fine with everyone knowing who started them. Maybe Satoshi can bring some balance to the politics of bitcoin. Well, it was a nice story to tell people about this decentralized technology founded by an anonymous guy... Agreed, but looks like we can still keep the story alive: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11609707I can understand he could have been able to fool the media outlets, but how was he able to fool Gavin and Jon Matonis?

Fascinating indeed, if he has those keys he was involved with bitcoin's inception, although he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone if he doesn't want to...

That's a quite dishonest rule, it should be enforced by the software not to steal from distracted users...
Arbitrary rules are arbitrary, you better read the whole think, somewhere in there it may say "if you make a bet of exactly 0.5265842658 bitcoins we steal your entire balance plus your first born."

People get way too excited with so little...

What the fuck are you talking about?

So, I did some math on that prediction, and if all mining is done in China with an average of 80 dollars per MWH, just to pay the electricity one bitcoin has to be worth 15573,33 USD, this is with no profit.
I wouldn't mind such a thing but I think the author is being way too optimistic.

New account asking for money, how is this still a thing?

It's an investment, I can't pay for the stuff I buy with bitcoin...

It's also less than half of the all time high value, but yes, it will probably continue to increase and perhaps a new bubble on the horizon. yes but the all time value lasted what few week? this increase has been there since months, so it's not fair to comapre the two you are comparing un unstable increase to a much more stable increase Well, the all time high lasted like a minute. But it was above $700 for months...
