1761  Other / Meta / Re: Over 250 Threads in the "Announcements" Subforum with Activity in Last 12 Hours on: April 04, 2014, 08:41:43 PM
The mods are not going to delete the subforums. I actually have the whole alt currency and its subforum on ignore since the first week I was here. Just let them announce the hell they want.

(The setting is in: profile, ignore board preferences)

This x 1000. Mods can't delete a subforum for one. The admins aren't going to delete the section, because then the spam would end up elsewhere. I believe there are some neat new changes coming to the Alt section with the new forum software, so until then, if you don't want to visit it, take jbrnt's advice, and ignore it.
1762  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a "Development & Technical" section in altcoins please? on: April 04, 2014, 07:35:31 PM
But if we're not talking about any single coin?

Seriously, if someone wants to talk about alternative schemes for how to use proof-of-stake to secure a blockchain, there isn't a particular coin which that's about.  There isn't a particular coin's forum that it ought to go on.  And it isn't a failing of any particular coin's community that such a thing doesn't exist.

If the objective here is to host development discussion for absolutely nothing except bitcoin, I guess I can respect that.  But I would think it's a real shame to maintain a situation where there's no central development board that's common to cryptocurrency in general and a shame to support the fragmentation of the development community such that developers aren't likely to have heard about theory and discussion created in other cryptocurrency contexts.

Well it is Bitcointalk. hosting development discussion for Bitcoin is kind of the MO. The general stance of the Bitcoin forum to Alternative Chains is neutral. We don't really care what they do one way or another. If they want to utilize what we already have setup, fine, but we aren't going to jump through hoops to accomodate them. There are altcoin forums out there already where the proper sections already built.
1763  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a "Development & Technical" section in altcoins please? on: April 04, 2014, 06:32:21 PM
The problem with that is that there is only a single altcoin that any such forum is devoted to.  The need I had hoped for this forum to address is that of a forum for discussing the development of cryptocurrencies in general.

This forum doesn't especially care to cater to alt coins, its just sort of supposed to be a stepping stone until a coin can create its own forums. Take advantage of this forum's huge community and post important announcements here, but making your own forum should be a really high priority.
1764  Other / Meta / Re: Has the TradeFortress account been hacked? on: April 04, 2014, 12:40:59 AM
Here's a random question - if the user is actively logging on, why don't the admins work with law enforcement to track him (or his proxy)? I have no involvement in this, but surely any bit of information helps?

I don't think the mods want to set a precedent like that, or it would lead to a lot of extra work.  There are many many many scammers.

Mods can't see IPs so nothing we could do. Theymos might help, but in reality, what do you think the chances are that Tradefortress didn't use Tor?
1765  Other / Meta / Re: Are this user's posts allowed o.o on: April 03, 2014, 10:47:32 PM
Looks like one of the other mods has taken care of it already, the posts are gone!

Yeah I nuked them and forgot to reply here. It was indeed all spam, thanks Jambola.

And no, no one reported them before you. They would have been gone instantly had they been reported.
1766  Other / Meta / Re: Mining hardware reorganization on: April 03, 2014, 09:26:15 PM
I think its a bad idea, there were already way too many active topics in custom hardware as it was.

Yes the previous split didn't make sense, but having no split is even worse.

I think the point was that people don't mine Bitcoins with GPU/CPU anymore, and people posting in the old hardware section, almost 100% of the time, should be posting in the Alt Currencies mining section instead.
1767  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Silver Wallets a new kind of physical storage for your bitcoin on: April 03, 2014, 06:46:29 PM
If you make a gold wallet, let me know and I'll be sure to pick one up  Smiley
1768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MODERATOR Please ban pool advertising within coin threads on: April 03, 2014, 12:18:48 PM
That rule is set by the OP of coin announcement threads. I generally allow 1 announcement per pool per thread, unless the OP doesn't want them at all. I'm aware tthat there is pool spam out there, and I'll get it when I find it.
1769  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [WTT] BTC for USD on: April 03, 2014, 12:50:56 AM
I'd be interested in acquiring all 7 BTC.

I can send cash in mail, cash deposit into a bank account (if your bank has a branch in the Chicago area), or meet up for face-to-face exchange if you are anywhere near Chicago.

I'm willing to exchange at BitStamp rate at the time that I (or escrow if you require it) receive the bitcoins.

Thanks for the offer, I will get back to you with a yea or nay shortly. I think Bank Wire is actually my best option right now, as I need to make a payment asap. If that isn't a possibility, I'll go with cash. I don't think my bank (USAA) has any locations near Chicago.
1770  Economy / Currency exchange / [Closed] BTC for USD on: April 02, 2014, 11:52:27 PM
Hey guys, I've got 7 BTC to trade for that wierd government made green paper money. I'm looking for either Cash or Wire Transfer. I've got to buy some business supplies from some people that don't take cryptos. (shame isn't it?) I will not touch any payment method that has the slightest possibility of chargebacks, but for your protection as well, I'd be happy to use escrow with a reputable escrow agent.

Feel free to post or pm any questions.

1772  Other / Meta / Re: MPOE-PR Perma-Banned after warning, Temp Ban more appropriate? on: April 02, 2014, 05:44:08 PM
She is an ass, but an asset. We need her much more than we need you. Take a couple weeks yourself.

So she swore at you. Grow a thicker skin. This is not a cocktail party.

And no, I'm not her shill, I'm someone else's.

Hey @theymos, please ban Maged till he calms down, and please bring back that ghastly MPOE-PR.

Strange but I would like Mircea still be around as the account has been right often even if she can be quite the hot button but just need to read the mpex threads to see useful contributions, as it acts as an archive to all the scams the forum has experienced.

Flaming a new security also has its merits when they really do end up sketchy in the end, I've noted it in more than a few securities threads that turned out to be spot on.

But lol

This will be the last month of MPOE-PR salary. The Bitcointalk forum moderators finally took exception to her public naming and shaming of their favourite scams, and banned her. I suppose in a sense this is best for all those involved.

Anyways can someone point me to the correct mod log so I can read through it ?
https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

Heh, neat I was just thinking about how I was going to hear from MPOE-PR to release the escrow. Thanks for the link.
1773  Other / New forum software / Post Deletion Messages on: April 02, 2014, 04:57:44 AM
I think it would be a pretty handy feature if moderators could include a brief message into the default, "your post has been deleted by a Bitcointalk Moderator "quote" I see a lot of people reporting their pms that tell them that their posts were removed, asking why. It would be neat if the new forum would allow moderators to throw in a little note with post deletions like, "your post was deleted for spamming or, your post was deleted for necroposting" or something of the sort
1774  Other / Meta / Re: MPOE-PR Perma-Banned after warning, Temp Ban more appropriate? on: April 02, 2014, 04:09:35 AM
I'll miss you Goaty Goat, don't forget to write me  Sad

Or steam chat works too  Smiley
1775  Other / Meta / Re: Maged permabanned MPOE-PR because she swore shock on: April 02, 2014, 02:24:27 AM
1) I've deleted many of MPOE-PR's posts in the past, throughout many threads.
See that, SaltySpitoon?

2) MPOE-PR has an orange ignore button.
Labcoin got me a yellow one.

Yeah, nice work. Congratulations, you're a scammer.

If you call everything a scam, and get some things right once in a while, that doesn't give you immunity to troll. If there is a thread accusing someone of being a scammer that is 15 pages long, and someone comes along and starts posting a "legit warning" but it is in the form of something that should be deleted. Its not silencing the accusation, its shutting one person up. The other 15 pages should be adequet.

Message to take away I guess is just because you call out scammers doesn't give you a free pass to break the rest of the rules. Thank you and congrats on calling them out, to both you and MPOE, your posts can still be deleted.
1776  Other / Meta / Re: What are the threads where I can not delete my own topics? on: April 02, 2014, 02:20:50 AM
What are the threads where I can not delete my own topics/posts?

Those exist? What thread/posts can't you delete? I suppose not in the auction section, and you can't normally delete threads, but you should be able to delete your posts and move the thread.
1777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advanced Bitcoin Simulator on: April 02, 2014, 02:15:19 AM
Ahah! Jokes on you, I'm winning. I've used past events to figure out to invest early, and get out before things collapse. I'm currently out $3147 Fiat, and up 115.54 BTC.

*edit* Nope I lost. Guess its easy to invest everything into a scam when its not real money *thinks back to me saying this 4 years ago with real Bitcoins*
1778  Other / Meta / Re: MPOE-PR Perma-Banned after warning, Temp Ban more appropriate? on: April 02, 2014, 01:50:57 AM
Hey, do you own homework yourself, and learn how to write properly.
This is about mods removing and banning criticism of scams.

Seeing as its the forum's official policy not to touch scam accusations, I find that hard to believe. When people come to me asking to have a scam accusation against them taken down, even if I can tell its complete BS, I just tell them to provide a response that makes the accuser lose all credibility. We don't touch scam accusations, ever. Besides moving them to the scam accusation section that is.

If you see someone violate that, report it. They will be gone immediately if not sooner.

1779  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Conference New York..Who is signed up? on: April 02, 2014, 01:41:38 AM
I know there is a bitcoin conference taking place in NY in the coming week. I plan to attend and was wondering if anyone else around would like to catch up too.

Moderators: Not sure if the thread is  under correct category. If it isn't, please move.

Cheers!

Moving it to meetups for you. I'll be attending. I'm actually one of the speakers.
1780  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I have defied gravity on: April 01, 2014, 09:21:05 PM
Saw the thread topic, thought to myself "Dank" and had to check.

Yep

Anyway, record your findings and let me know how it works out. I got bored and decided I'd try and disprove gravity a while ago.
