Sorry for my sensationalist title - now edited - and my fudging of Maged's reasons for permabanning her.
I was annoyed, but it's no excuse.
Long-standing members do need a little more leniency when they're being tw@s.
Hehe, I didn't mean you had to literally change it. You also don't need to suck up to me, feel free to throw a few f bombs my way, I don't care. I was just voicing my opinion on the matter.

I dont know all of the details either, so I'm not sure if a perma ban was warranted based off of what I do know, but some sort of action was reasonable. Swearing at the mods wont win you any brownie points, but most don't really care. Although old accounts shouldn't be given preferential treatment, how long someone has been here definately is a consideration. If you are a newbie with 30 posts, and 27 of them are banworthy, well, bye. But if your account is two years old with 2,000 posts and you have a slip up or a bad day, you tend to have a little bit more leniency given. That is not to say that you are untouchable if you have an old account, that is to say you are more likely to get a temporary ban first, or perhaps a second warning.
If anything, the title of this thread should be, MPOE-PR Perma Banned after warning, Temp Ban more appropriate?

Old members shouldn't get preferential treatment if they break the rules. No one would be complaining if a new member got banned for swearing at a moderator. Sometimes people need to be made an example of in order to keep others in check.
You don't get banned for swearing at a moderator. MPOE-PR was asked to stop spamming/trolling by Maged, and rather than stopping, she swore at him. The act of insulting Maged itself didn't get her banned, it was the warning, and then lack of acknowledgement of the warning that got the ban.

Yeah, its not going to pay your bills, but it does allow for some extra spending BTC to buy some cool thing that someone is selling, be it alpaca socks, or whatever else you find here.
Moderating here is definately not a bad task. You get caught up in nonsense from time to time, for trying to moderate a userbase that doesn't want to be moderated, but overall no complaints.

How much $$$ does theymos pay you?
It depends on the ad revenue, take the month's ad revenue X 0.25 and divide that by about 40. Active moderators get more than inactive ones, but that is a rough figure. So about 25% of the revenue spilt between about 40 mods. The forum gets about 18 btc per week for advertising. 18x0.25=4.5 4.5/40=0.1125 0.1125/7*31=0.4982142 So each mod gets around 0.5 btc per month? Like I said, it does depend on moderator activity, but that isn't a bad average.

The trust system isn't moderated. If you haven't noticed, Dogie, Squal, and Theymos are all targets of Josh's contest, yet Theymos hasn't removed his own negative ratings either. It is allowed, but as you have seen here, when people do these sort of things, they lose all of their own credibility and the effect on the targets is near zero. I don't often vouch for the default trust list, but this is exactly why it exists. I don't see any negative hits against any of your trust, because I don't trust those that are leaving the negative feedback in the first place. I wouldn't stop trading with you guys because FSB was paid to give you negative trust, I would just disregard his trust given the circumstances. These people that are leaving negative feedback have no influence in their trust at all, so it doesn't effect anyone besides themselves. Inaba got negative trust from myself as well. I haven't been involved in any of the BFL disputes, because I don't care. I'm not a customer nor a potential customer, and never have been, so I have never left negative trust over the BFL thing (its pretty bad that everyone knows what I'm talking about when I say BFL thing) but this is a scummy move, and deserves the neg. Now its up to others to determine whether they trust my and the other negatives Josh has received. If they don't care, they are welcome to do what they want, negative trust doesn't automatically make someone a scammer. It just tells people to do a little extra research, and to see if the claims have any validity before doing business. *edit* also for the record, Inaba hasn't purchased any advertising slots since round 107 (January 9th) 3 months ago. The "you are being paid off by Inaba" point is invalid for that, and another reason which I'd be happy to pm if you care. Its a long post I made a while ago calculating how much money Theymos actually gets from Inaba's advertising.

Yes. Trust rating is broken. It should have only trade deals! But everyone leaves only their comments, although they did not make real trades.
The problem with not allowing people to post feedback unless they have traded, is that in order to give someone negative feedback, you would have to be scammed first. The goal is to prevent the scams in the first place not to just stop it from happening again. If I see someone trying to pull off a scam, should I have to let myself get scammed first so I can warn everyone else? No. I should responsibly disclose why I think they are scamming, and allow people to judge for themselves the validity of my claim based on the evidence I provide. If you did something that makes you look untrustworthy, such as selling your trust to another, anyone is more than entitled to give you negative trust and to point that out.

I don't see why people whine so much about the trust system, really all it is meant to do is serve as some sort of general guideline when dealing with new users. It's extremely sad that Inaba is bribing people to leave negative feedback for no reason. BFL has been unethical at best from day one but this sort of behavior is honestly just childish.
What I find most interesting, is that Inaba's "secondary" purpose of the contest was to show that the trust system is broken. I agree in some cases it is, but I would say that point has been a flop for this specific example. He tried to abuse the trust system, and took a hit himself. That shows that in this particular situation, the trust system works as planned. It needs some tweaking, but I don't say that it is completely ruined.

There's not enough time in the world to verify every single feedback for all users. If we do it for you, then we have to do it for everyone, then we might as well be back to handing out scammer tags and figuring out who's "guilty" or not.
You could do it for hero members, and put a limit on the amount of appeals. Simple things like this one would take 20 seconds of reading the trust left and you'd know it was fake. But what happens when there is a conflict of interests? As it sits now, moderators can't delete their own feedback, friends of moderators can't have their feedback removed, etc. Theymos is the only one who can remove feedback, and even he understands the implications of what could happen if trust was selectively enforced. In an ideal world, people could leave whatever lies they wanted, but with no support or no proof, it would just reflect poorly upon them. There is no plausible way that I can think of, where we can have a moderated trust sytem, because then it is no longer a trust system, then its having trust in whoever is in charge of reviewing appeals. I believe a WOT like OTC is going to be added with the new forum software, which I suppose is the best option at the time being.

Heres the link to the BFL forum where they have the OP's quote posted. https://forums.butterflylabs.com/announcements/8203-win-butterfly-labs-imperial-monarch.htmlDefinitely earned a neg from me. Did they get permission from Theymos? Probably not exactly, they probably asked "can I do a promotion involving trust?" In which the answer would be sure, you are allowed to do whatever you want with the current trust system. However trying to buy trusts always backfires.

College is not for the majority of people I don't think. Its useful for certain fields, like the medical field and whatnot, but most people don't need to go to business school, they don't need to get a degree saying they are verified experts at painting or graphic design. Ideally, you shouldn't even need a degree to be a software engineer. In a world that doesn't require a degree to work at McDonalds, you should be able to prove that you are qualified for a job without a piece of paper saying so.
I'm a student, and I see so many people that are wasting their money on frivolous degrees that don't actually better their skills, but just make them "marketable" to employers. I'm a nuclear physics major, so I can talk myself into continuing with my education, as I hope that I'm getting more than just a piece of paper, but there are so many degree paths that are just a waste of money.
I do like to tell the story of my Aunt however, whenever I get super peppy people telling me and others that college is a guarentee that you will get a high paying and high powered job. My aunt got a complete scholarship to Yale, 100% paid for, tuition, books, etc. She went and finished her MBA as salutatorian there. When she graduated, she couldn't find a job, as she was over qualified, and she didn't want to move away from home. So she worked at Walmart/Burger King from then on out. That would be a $350,000 education today. Now imagine if she had paid for it.

Sperm bank would pay you more.
Well better put my price up then. Now I am asking 0.25. Wish we would have sperm bank in my country that would pay us..you just go there fap and you get the money? Sort of, in order to donate sperm there are a ton of tests that you have to take. First to make sure you are free of STDs, then you are tested for diseases and chronic illnesses, any genetic traits that could be passed along to the baby, and you are also evaluated based in IQ/your job. They aren't going to take sperm from Cletus the high school dropout with an IQ of 89. They will take it from the 6 foot tall Fabrisio who is a doctor with an IQ of 140 and no family history of health conditions. No I have not donated sperm, but it was one of my topics in an ethics class.

I just wanted to say thank you to theymos for having decided to ban our crawler twice during the last 12 hours. Posted from Bitcointa.lk - #yUXGFN4tVExKSjIn
I don't think Theymos banned it, its a rather useful site, the moderation staff are using it to catch the people that are bump spamming, and then deleting their posts to get around the 24 hour bump limit.

There's nothing stopping mods or users of this forum from creating their own place. There are also other forums available, but if people can create an even better one then they should go ahead.
I had my own forum for a bit, but then I got tired of working on it and just stopped. And you are correct, if people don't like how this forum is being run, they can create their own. Even if they do like how this forum is being run, you can create your own. If you can create better features, people will join, tis as simple as that.

If a tipping system is set up, it will work. Depositing and withdrawing BTC would be nominal and regular. I just can't see why it wouldn't be okay.
If the forum is holding people's Bitcoins, it makes it a larger target for hackers. Then the legal liability comes when someone hacks the forums to steal people's coins, and then Theymos has to pay them back. I'm not entirely sure if the forum credit idea will be useful in anyway, but I too am of the opinion of, who cares as long as I'm not forced to use it. No security measures are 100% foolproof, given enough incentive, such as 100,000 user's Bitcoins that are held in a hot wallet, someone will at the very least try to hack the forums. Thats where the unwanted liability would come from.

This has been discussed multiple times, we've yet to see any action being taken.
Because the answer was no fifty threads ago. The Alt Coin section isn't to cater to alt coins, its to keep people from posting about alt coin stuff elsewhere on the forum. If the alt coin section goes, you will see the scam IPOs pop up in Project Development, Currency exchange, Bitcoin discussion, and all sorts of other places it shouldn't be. The whole idea of Crypto Currencies is that you don't need to rely on someone telling you what you can and cannot do with your coins. If people want to ignore all reason and "invest" in some shady alt coin IPO, or invest in a failing coin, more power to them. They will get burnt and maybe learn a lesson. Anyone that would invest any significant amount of money into something that is obviously incredibly risky either has a lot of money, or a problem. Bad alt currencies don't represent crypto currencies as a whole, any more than individual people represent Bitcoin. Its money, there are scams, bad services, illicit uses, thats going to be true for anything. Just think before you invest money, and you will be fine, if people don't have the mental capacity not to give a complete stranger with a shoddy business plan an irreversable payment online, then they should go back to using Paypal.

I was the mod of the Alt Currencies section before becoming a global mod, but any of the people that malevolent mentioned are who you are looking for.
