Circle CEO Allaire: It’s Highly Unlikely We’ll Be Using Bitcoin in 5 or 10 Years

http://coinjournal.net/circle-ceo-allaire-highly-unlikely-well-using-bitcoin-5-10-years/

A bold claim without giving any reasoning from somebody I never heard of before.
Pass
sure traditional finance seeks a solution in there way to use blockchain. eat the cake and keep it at the same time. thats what they always did and like to do.

more anonymity for better fungibility and a limited suply would be more important then switching to pos. at the moment. we are fine with pow. and time isnt ready for pos. enduser phones and pc and tablets arent ready.

for now the coin needs to gain market cap and stabelice trust.

limit amount of coins.( investors will like this)

no hf every month. Hf are only done if it pass the rules implemented in code.(exchanges will apriciate that also its a way to make techinqual updates easier)

a new coded wallet. (good for devs and will show them what is hidden in the eth code like the diff bomb for example)

funds for devs.  (% of fees?)

just puting this thought our for dicussion

How much memory is needed for a regular PC run ethereum to get POS rewards? and what is the percentage of POS? anything finalized yet?

I read Ethereum POS was like a new lottery based system, which did not require PC hardware e.g. may be web-based options.

Also, nowadays you get POS mining pools, which mean you do POS via a proxy pool.

Here is a technical explanation of POS at Serenity hardfork

https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/03/05/serenity-poc2/

Generally, POS works on bigger coins, when you can get towards 0% inflation. For example PPC, has a ongoing POS at 1% simultaneously as the POW.

However, a mix of POW and POS structure can operate as disincentive to new investors or miners.

POS works best, when done as an investor capture system, e.g. when a crypto coin get a huge enough investor base or becomes very famous - a POS between 0.01%-1% reward (in theory) should be sufficient to retain investors and interests.

Do note: if the crypto coin gets a tiny investor base or is unknown the POS will be diluted by a developer with ridiculous POS rates of 5%-1000% in an attempt to retain investors and interest.

The latter does not apply to Ethereum Smiley

the later does not apply to ether so far but what if a superuser wants it ?
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 29, 2016, 01:54:44 AM
and POS coming soon ( or later)
POS give power to whales .
you need a very good pc to keep a POS coin running on you pc.
look at the history of POS coins. bitshares for example was among the 10 bigest in marketcap and now ?

POS is generally a good deal, I use blackcoin which is Proof of Stake and energycoin.    They both work ok, there is some impact for much older machines but really its not a problem I find and 2008 hardware was ok.    POS equates to capitalism I think, any standard too elitist wont survive long term
POS is ok as long as the coin is smal, as soon as there are rising numbers  of tx it becomes a problem
bitshares is the best example . average people with average pcs.

and caspar is planed for when ? next year ?
POS equates capitalism? do you rever to it in theory or in ETH ?

i should check in the books but capitalism is if you invest and know the risk and take it if you win you get profit if you lose you lose your invetment. and no mummi comes running to help
do you think a dao desaster would not be able in a POS system ?
right now if i look at the systems in this world there is no capitalism . capitalism was taken over by cooperatism. socialic risk(ttip , ceta, and so on ) and socialic losses but privatic profit. and other special rules for the uper 1 %

didnt vitalic mention a superuser feature?

hi all finaly it worked
what i did

i updated to 0.8.7

all coins are in there
right now i try to split them at polo
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 27, 2016, 06:13:55 AM
thats what i found on eth mist troubleshooting page :

Mist is synchronized but is stuck during the last part

Each time the Wallet is started it needs to sync the chain with the network. The first time it needs to download and verify the entire chain which can take a long time. Therefore a smarter and faster solution is used the first time the Wallet is started. It will not download and verify the entire chain but will only download specific parts up to a specific block (latest block - 1024 blocks). After that it will download and process the state of the contracts which can take quite some time. So please wait an let it finish downloading the state, otherwise it would start from scratch again. You can find more details here: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/pull/1889.

(latest block - 1024 blocks)thats where mine stucks and then loads in again and stucks
so its not a bug its how it is designed

well i give it another try
new day new game

196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 26, 2016, 08:50:58 PM
mine works, even my rigs powered with conventional disks.

try nuking your chaindata and resync with --fast.

some of the block with malicious calculations refer back to previous blocks to crunch more data. limiting the bulk of old blocks to headers only curbs the amount of erroneous calculations needed to process (and sync) a block.
how to resync with --fast ?
would you be so kind and give a step by step list ?

In windows open cmd.
Go to directory where your geth is
Enter geth --fast
I am not sure  but you probably should start from zero so you should delete old chain data (blocks).. search for removedb

ok thank you, i will try this and give feedback couse i think there are otheres with the same problem

and for info me os is win7
geth mist 0.8.6

Thank you too, have also massive problems to get the mist client synced, will give it a try.
does anyone know how big chaindata gets ? blocks are almost synced but chain structure as at 13 mil and keeps counting up. whole chaindate is right now around 9.3 gb

31+ millions and there are huge chances that it will get error messages while syncing. I had encountered these error messages at 15 million mark. Then you have to start all over again. After weeks of trying to sync I finally gave up. This whole situation is just nerve wracking. I have used myetherwallet to send the funds to an exchange and have ordered ledger nano s where I will transfer my ether funds when I get it.

I love ether, I love bitcoin as well. I won't give up on ethereum, but I can't lose my nerves on syncing issues no more. Life is more precious than that! Smiley

my problem is i do this for a friend.
he didnt update his ether wallet for a long time
its predaofork
how do i use myetherwallet ?
could you help with a step by step advice ?

1. go to myetherwallet
2. go to send ether
3. check keystore file
4. select your wallet file (that's your private key that you can find it in the keystore folder)
5. enter the password and unlock your funds
6. send to the address you want

Just consider this address as compromised, move all your funds somewhere else and don't ever use it. I was shaking my ass off while doing this, as just a thought came to my mind what if myetherwallet is compomised, but I have done it without any problems.

the coins i have to move belong to a friend
the coins are nto splited yet
did you move yours to polo ? or another exchange ?
