Looks like a majority want a SF...im all for it and so are many that i know personally  Smiley

http://ethpool.org/stats/votes

i didn't know about voting there..voted for soft fork
only 65000 out of 300000 voted
thats a minority
and only 50000 say yes to the sf
702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 21, 2016, 04:46:32 AM
its a very interesting situation and will show what the crypto realy is in a moral view.

i look forwart to see who has the power

the devs ?
the miners?
the holders?
the exchanges ?

who will find  consensus and what will it be  ?

703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 21, 2016, 04:26:47 AM
I still don't understand why ETH is helping a 3rd party software team to recover funds THEY lost due to lack of testing/unit testing

This tells me 1 thing.. ETH considers the marketcap of their project to be more important than adoption/principals of their platform, simple really

This decision is entirely based on money, yes money, fiat, that thing we are trying to replace with crypto is swaying the decisions of crypto now.

Everyone seem to be mentioning how much $USD they lost, how much BTC they lost or will lose, no one seems concerned that ETH is the first crypto to implement blacklists

Will the blacklists stop at transaction(s), or will it extent to addresses, countries, ip's, political parties???

ETH took BTC and turned it into FIAT, Awesome work.
exactly
if they do what they plan and beat the taker they act inmoral stealing back is stealing why not find the guy and sue him and see what the law says we cant take the law in our own hands what if the next does something different and we dont like it ?

i gues its a friendship thing or money this guys are very young maybe they dont realize yet what impact on the project  such a handling has

Well written statement outlining their valid reasons for delisting.  It won't have any effect on Etherium but I completely understand the reasoning behind it.  Any fork or rollback invalidates decentralization which has been a cornerstone of Ethereum since it's inception.

cryptopia is not in the wrong here in my opinion.
in mine too
i read vitaliks blog
he told of a list of bugs that need to be solved with a hardfork but he does not say roll back for dao only
a bailout for dao investors with a rollback is very very bad
then crypto is not better then the banksters and goverments

did someone rollback mtgox ? or bter ? or what ever hack there was ?

The total enslavement!

omg cant you see what is happening
does it matter what they are ?
ether gets big damage
and that not from the dao desaster
it gets it becouse of how they act now
707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 09:27:06 PM
hmmm Smiley
708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 08:46:12 PM
hmmm right investors get back what they invested hmmm reminds me of a running word 2008 to big to fail
investors take a risk and get if they are lucky big reward if not lucky lose all
isnt that what risico investment means ?
and not like the old paradigma privatice winning  and socialice losses ?
if they roll it back it means every ether holder will pay for there bad investment and the roll back isnt it ?
didnt slock.it do the code
what do they say to it ?

709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 03:19:33 PM
Why is everyone ignoring the fact ETH has just added a blacklist to the currency as some kind of "fix" to a 3rd party smart contract.

Are people really that naïve to think that this blacklist wont be exploited by political of financial bodies.

Why is ETH even getting involved in a 3rd party software bug, especially with something as controversial as a hardfork.

Now every smart contract developer can ignore BASIC UNIT TESTING and just deploy contracts cause if anything goes wrong the ETH centralized network will just add that contract to their blacklist too.
thats my point too
thats not what i expected from ether
710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 09:54:56 AM
all of you talk about the stolen ether from the dao
and how to fix it and roll back and so on
but that will not fix the damage
we the ether holder who had notheing to do with dao
we have a big loss
ether was high and is now low
and a hardfork ? will that be good for the ether price ? i daubt it
so we again pay for the code done by whom ?
id realy like to know who did that code
and missed to see the hole

and yes i know ether price will rais again
Wink
i just trow this in the discution
it seems to me its not fair to everyone
its just saveing a loss for investors
but what about the early investors ?
711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 09:45:04 AM
This seems pretty simple to me.
Decentralized crypto-currencies are all about consensus.
Vitalik suggested a hard fork rollback.
The majority seem to want it...that's consensus!

Now roll it back.

Note - I was not affected by this DAO/ETH situation.

You go into the casino and win legally 50 Million with a new technique.

Not the true story, true story:

A crew of people invest 150 Million into a new casino with all new technique, someone finds a flaw in the code and cheats out 50 Million of the casino...

What to do ? Of course roll back, fix the code, and "restart" the new technique casino...

You didn't understand the image... the new technique was not the blockchain... but the different call of the contract by the attacker...

That still doesn't change anything on the situation

The point is, that we are not allowed to go back in time, just because we can. You always have side effects you don't foresee.
For example if you go back and kill hitler you save millions of people. But maybe the russians may have taken lead of the world and bombed usa with an atomic bomb and killed even more...
i agree with you
now vitalik is still very young and he made that decition but
is it good ?
the devs who did the dao should step forwart and say we are sorry we missed the hole that made it posible to steel
the hole should be closed and thats it
as i recall
on all this pages there is a line like
be careful joining means you can lose all
at least at the etherpage it was

713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 07:00:22 AM
ok they fork it out but
what do we do with the next assh...? and be sure there will be a next.
there are lots of assh..... out there give them a chance to steel and they will

realy i ask you what do we do with the next ?
714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 19, 2016, 04:48:31 AM
Cmon guys negotiate with the attacker for 90% return. That will be a win for both...

90% return!?!? Are you jocking ? Nothing should be given to this fuck face. He made a damage of hunderds of milions. Eth yesterday 20$+ and today 13$ and falling, that is close to 500 milions lost in a day, not counting the DAO. All togehther probably a billion $. And if he returns everything the damage has been done. Who knows when and if it will be back to normal.
The guy/team that did this has to be identified and tracked down like an animal. And then punished....

Vitalik and company should make a hard fork. ETH and theDAO are great projects that can change history, but they have to be more carefull, after all this is not a game anymore, billions of $ are not to be played with.

vitalik is solving this now but isnt slockit the company that coded the dao?
or i am wrong ?
715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 17, 2016, 07:04:32 PM
what a day...not saw this much crypto action for yrs,lol

AFAIK , the funds are held in a child dao and cannot be spent for 27days and a fork is being proposed from the Slockit team.

Id like to say well done to everyone working together to help resolve this DAO issue.

ETH will get stronger because of this.

Ill be back soon with more info ,  Smiley

From a traders pov, I learnt how solid ETH is, we stayed above $1bill and now back to $1.2bill
Hold ETH or buy
Rememeber the hacker has NO ETH and worst case scenario hacker does get the ETH after 27days, i believe the market will absorb any dumps and recover very quickly.

o totaly agree with you
hold or if pos. buy
think of ether a year ago
what was it ? 25 cents ?
and now look ahead
716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: June 17, 2016, 06:05:20 PM
so what's happened now exactly, etheruem or the dao was hacked?, because i dumped already i was fearing to lose all my funds
I think it was not hacking but a splitting DAO vote or something. Its not a big deal I guess. Of course DAO the biggest holders of ETH, gave this crash like selling and it may continue for a while, in worst case scenario it would be around 20%. But I don't think this to happen. All I'm saying is a temporary crash creates once in a life time opportunity to go long on ETH i guess. The problem is we don't know where will be the bottom. This is why it is so important to go with options as a protective measures. Whatever you go long ETH, simply buy enough puts to cover your losses if any crash occur again. This is what the all hedge funds are doing this over and over again to make stable profits!

i dont think it will go back to 25 cents
btw a very interesting move
we learn on the way to the future of money currencies assets or i say cryptos
and i dont think such a crash will happen in the future if the dao has such a case again
its all so new and every one is just a bit fast to panik
with time we wont react to such news with selling

what is the latest ether mist version and where can one download it ? i have 0.5.2
but its so slow to sync
used to be faster
Geth 1.4.6 "EDGE" aims to solve the synchronization issues resulting from this newly found heterogeneity: it introduces a lot more download concurrency to avoid bottlenecks caused by badly connected remote machines, and also introduces adaptive quality-of-service tuning to make peer selection less aggressive for users with more restricted connectivity.

The result is a newly polished sync mechanism that can churn out a 7-8MB/s download speed in the current Ethereum main network (if your connectivity allows it), but also provide a solid and stable stream for all users, verified for as low as EDGE connections (440ms latency, 200 kbps upstream, 220kbps downstream).

I am using 0.7.4 (Beta 18), the mist wallet. It takes a long time to update and it tells me there is a more up to date geth.
I understand geth is in the download and part of the mist wallet.
I don't understand how to update geth separately and if I should, maybe just wait till the next wallet release, it would then include it I expect.
Are there instructions on how to just update the geth part without messing anything up?

Any advise please.
i can tell you what i just did
no quarentie it works for you too
i downloaded the geth "edge" from the link he/she gave us then started it ( my antivir blocked it so i had to alowe it) then i had it run
and started mist like always
and it was real fast this time
when it opened .... all my ether are still there
hope that helps

oh and make sure you have a keystore backup
copie that file just to be sure you can restore if anything happens
