Well, this is fun.  I always tried to maintain a neutral position on Bryce since I don't like judging people on hearsay. Getting a little more difficult to do these days.

Yeah, I'm ready and standing by on my end to help out with the project as much as I can. Once things are moving again, my videos are uploaded and waiting on YouTube and saved as a draft post on my website.  Just got to keep moving forward and put the problems behind us.

XPD is leading in the vote on Cryptopia.co.nz with only a couple of days to go. Add your daily vote to help push XPD onto an exchange again.

Looks like it won! The website seems to be down at the moment; hope Cryptopia doesn't count that against it.

184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BITS] BitSeeds - A Currency that Grows! - UNMODERATED THREAD on: June 13, 2015, 05:35:03 AM
what is going on with bitseeds ?

Here is the best thread to keep updated on the ongoing Bitseeds project:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1028446.400;topicseen#new

Basically, Bryce is no longer involved in the project (he seems to be no longer interested in being involved in crypto? Not sure of the details) and Gabe is in process of reviewing new devs to take over and continue forward, with a couple of big things on the horizon.

I am involved now and have provided what amounts to a complete cryptocurrency course covering everything about using a QT-style wallet, using Bitseeds as the teaching example.

Part of the purpose of the project from the start has been to bring people from outside of the narrow crypto community into crypto. I recognized this and wanted to get involved in part because of the backing of the internationally recognized name of the Rainforest Foundation. I also realized that with the involvement of a payment processor, merchants who accept Bitseeds will not only save money over accepting credit cards (as any crypto could offer) but also get a tax write-off; that's a pretty compelling argument for merchant adoption.

With the "save the trees" message (which resonates with me, personally), it's the perfect recipe for mass adoption. I'm doing my bit by providing a complete course that will let non-technical, non-crypto people easily get and use the Bitseeds wallet app.

I'll be releasing the individual lessons starting soon and the Rainforest Foundation will give away Bitseeds to anyone who leaves their payment address in a comment on the video (either on YouTube or on my website). So keep up with new developments in the main thread and make sure to get in on the giveaway when it starts so you can get some free Bitseeds!

185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update to 0.10 Wallet - Merge Mine w/BTC! on: June 12, 2015, 06:14:46 AM
I'm missing the unique 9th digit of the Uno. It has only 8 now and that sucks. Where is Blazr2?! We need someone with a plan!
Sorry, ur missing huh?

Uno used to be devisible 9 digits, not only 8 like all the other coins.

1 Blazr was 0.000000001
Now it's only 0.00000001

Hey, you're right. I hadn't noticed there's only eight digits now!

Amkoin is the only other coin I know that has 9 decimal places after the  .

Such ironic timing to shut down the project on the very day that OpenBazaar announced getting $1 million in funding. Would love to know what happened behind the scenes...  Roll Eyes

Just spoke with Gabe on the phone and hadn't heard anything about the issue with Bryce until about 45 minutes ago. I just reached out to someone who might be able to help out with the developer work, but if anyone has suggestions please speak up.

I have all my videos queued up privately on YouTube and we'll still be going ahead with the giveaway and other promotions as soon as the dev issue is straightened out. We'll keep everyone posted as things progress and soon we'll have all the growing pains behind us.

I'm happy to see progress with the project, too!

OK, Wednesday AM update:

I've uploaded a dozen lessons to YouTube and I've got one more quick one to shoot after I coordinate a couple of things with Gabe. What we have so far, however, is a complete intro course to crypto wallets, designed for mainstream people outside of the crypto community.

Because of the nature of the coin, the giveaway and the YouTube course release will expose thousands of new people to cryptocurrency both from my international (25,000+ person) computer training newsletter, as well as the many fans and supporters of the Rainforest Foundation.

Here's a list of the videos so far:

  • How to Download the Bitseeds Wallet
  • How to Install the Wallet on a Windows PC
  • How to Install the Wallet on a Mac
  • Running the Bitseeds Wallet the First Time
  • Overview of the Bitseed Wallet
  • The Receive Tab: How to Use the Wallet App to Get Cryptocurrency
  • How to Use Your Wallet to Send Money
  • Using The Wallet's Transactions Tab
  • How to Use the Address Book
  • How to Encrypt & Protect the Cryptocurrency in Your Wallet
  • How to Back Up Your Wallet
  • Suggested Settings for the Bitseeds Wallet

Anyone with questions feel free to ask.

@worth

I wouldn't call providing liquidity price manipulation cuz if nobody would it would be pretty bad. If you're not driving price up or down unnaturally it should be ok and is even neccessary because people don't buy illiquid coins.

Ah, OK. I tended to assume the coins being sold were being dumped by miners and the only talk I ever hear about people placing walls is to manipulate price. I just buy it and hold it so day trading is not my wheelhouse.

About SC:
All good, man. I'm just still really burned out from the 20MB Bitcoin discussion and the last BW screw-fork and i really don't want to have more of this shit right now. I can read the market and it tells me we don't need SC or even a discussion about it. We are very good positioned the way Uno is right now and i think SC shouldn't be discussed below 2mln$ cap and decent testing outside Uno. That's all. Just the burn out.

Cool. I agree, UNO has a great future regardless. Wasn't trying to stir the pot. Smiley
191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update to 0.10 Wallet - Merge Mine w/BTC! on: June 10, 2015, 02:29:06 AM

It's been planned for the coin for months. Merged mining implementation was a first step towards securing it and making it ready for sidechains. The potential effect on the price would not be a bad thing, to say the least, based on the statements of the Blockstream devs during their AMA and elsewhere.

Are you even holding a considerable amount of it yourself?

Bottom line: it's not urgent also generally rules of complex systems apply (don't fix what isn't broken)

edit: it will also only help the price if it is desired and welcomed by the ones holding the coins. You're speculating on maybe increased demand while i speculate on maybe increased supply from it. I'm sure the ones releasing SC are good in hyping it up, no doubt about that. But if the current holders of Uno respond to that hype in a positive way is another story.
People who don't provide liquidity shouldn't even talk about changes to the coin in the first place btw. We should make it a rule for the coin that only those showing a buywall at the market should be allowed to suggest any changes imo. Which one is your buyorder? Can you flash it? Or got some latest tradehistory to share?

I own UNO and have been buying it for some time. It's in my wallets (one of which is currently open and running to help support the network), not sitting on an exchange in an attempt to manipulate the price. Not that's any of that is particularly relevant.

Don't know why my simple comment answering someone else's question triggered such an aggressive response from you. I'm not advocating rushing into anything (or indeed advocating anything if you actually read my post) just relaying some information.

My price comment was not speculation on a pump, but in response to Adam Back and Matt Corrallo's comments on how the price of a sidechain coin would be affected by arbitrage.  There's a lot of info packed into their AMA, but this link should expand the comments enough for you to search on page for "arbitrage" for the relevant info.

Hey guys. I know some things could have gone better in May. Didn't we have that conversation already? Nevertheless, Uno made huge strides and is well positioned for the future.  I won't repeat my long post of a couple of weeks ago, but there is a LOT of good news for Uno that has not yet been priced in. Imo, this is the most undervalued coin on CMC's top 100, and I would not be suprised at all to see that recognition priced in quickly and permanently.

I know BW ticked off some people. If we could go back, there are something things I would work very hard to do differently. But BW did put in a ton of time, at no cost to the community, and he (along with contributions from others in the community) ultimately moved Uno in a direction it needed to go. Uno will reap the benefit of this fork for a long time to come.  If it was easy, every sha shitcoin would do it, and eventually they all probably will try.  Yes there is more work to do; if you can help, jump in.

I don't value the contributions people are making to Uno merely by the size of their wallets. There are some who hold little, but contribute in important ways. And some holding lots of Un who contribute by hodling. I don't believe anyone here needs to drop their pants to show how big their commitment is.

We're all working to move Uno in a positive direction.  We're here because we like Uno. It's open source, open to anyone to come in and make contribution.  This is our strength and our weakness (mostly strength).

I think by and large this discusion is a very positive and honest one, especially when compared to other threads on BCT. I'm glad when I see people expressing criticism in constructive ways, because it shows that we respect each other and says that we want to engage in a long term productive relationship with one another. And that's the kind of community I want to be part of.

^ This.

How many confirmations does NXT need for a transaction to fully confirm? I sent some over 12 hours ago and it now has 528 confirmations, yet still doesn't show as fully confirmed.  It doesn't seem viable for a currency for this to be normal. Is the network malfunctioning?
720 confirms for fully not rollback.
Generally,10 confirms is enough.

Wow. That's going to take close to a day to process a single transaction. Thanks for the info.

Er, seems to be some confusion here......
10 confirms is more than enough to be spendable, the 720 confirmations/blocks is the rollback limit coded into NXT:
https://nxtforum.org/general/transaction-confirmations-best-practice/

The confusion seems to be in the client, explorer, and/or network because I went to bed last night with over 850 confirmations yet the explorer showed it as "unconfirmed" and it still hadn't arrived.  Just had a chance to check today and it now has over 1275 confirms yet the explorer still shows it as unconfirmed.  However, the funds do seem to have finally arrived after a day and a half!

Are you running NRS v1.5.x?

Can you post the transaction ID (or PM it me)?

I was using Mofowallet's web client, my third attempt to get a working client (the one I had installed from months ago now gives the error "An error occurred, the server has quit. Please restart the application" when I try launching it), the official client apparently requires the command line to launch now (which I'm perfectly comfortable using) but just gives multiple error messages when I try, and the first web client I tried seemed to want me to register and create a new wallet with no way to use my existing one.

Conceptually, I like NXT, but if the goal is widespread consumer adoption, it has a long way to go.

Sunday night update on the video lessons: currently have 12 lessons recorded and in post-production. It's early evening Sunday here as I write this; I should finish editing them tonight and will be uploading them as they become ready.  Have one other video I still want to shoot which I should be able to do tomorrow afternoon.

Will post links and any other updates in the next day or so.

Tuesday Update: Was a little overly optimistic on free time for my post-production.
Have half the videos exported and the other half need a few minutes work each to finish the editing (the remaining 6 videos are each about 90% done and just need the call-outs added before exporting).
Have my afternoon & evening schedule dedicated to this and will finish them up and upload.  Have one more short video to record still as mentioned above; will try to get that in the can today as well and I'll keep the thread updated.

By the way, anyone holding Bitseeds should open their wallets and leave them running. Not enough people are contributing right now and that's the reason the network isn't moving normally.  I'm doing my part to help out by leaving my wallet running at all times when my main computer is awake.

All my current funds are tied up with that wallet but thinking I'm going to buy a few thousand more and load them into a wallet on my Mac Mini media server and let that one run 24/7.

Hi worth, I've seen you on twitter and good to know you will fill in, I like the idea you posted on the reddit to giveaway bitseeds via your newsletter, literally "seeding" the coins out if you will. One of the big problems with crypto has always been to break out of the bubble we have here on btctalk and get these currencies into the real world, it is things like this that can help do that, it always irritates me when I think how much money is wasted on Bitcoin conferences for pundits to talk amongst themselves when that money could be better spent distributing Bitcoin to the wider world. I also think the tax exemption status of this coin is something that should be more stressed as well, especially as Bitcoin is going more mainstream and regulated.

Anyway my brain is fried after a long day but I'm willing to help out anyway I can, I'm @mikegeister on twitter.

Hi Mike; while I didn't connect it until I looked at your Twitter profile, I've seen you there too - you're on my crypto Twitter list and you're following me.

If you think my giveaway idea is literally "seeding" the coins, wait until Gabe talks about the unique way that the Rainforest Foundation will be putting Bitseeds into people's hands. It's 100% literally seeding it, and it's a really cool idea.

The idea behind the videos and the giveaway (and really, the idea behind Bitseeds itself) is to get out of the Bitcointalk bubble and to a more mainstream audience. The involvement of the Rainforest Foundation is key to this, and the tax benefit to merchants (on top of the standard crypto cost savings of avoiding credit card fees) are a real tangible incentive to drive adoption.

A couple of my videos will address some of these points as you'll see in a few days once they're available.

game over  Huh

Well, someone sure made out like a bandit with that dump.  Or not, depending on what happens in the future with the project.

Can't call game over until we see what happens after OpenBazzar is released, as mentioned upthread.
