People often like to purport that Monero will inevitably get banned. However, the new FinCEN guidance is basically inconsistent with that notion. From the CoinCenter article: Section 4.5.3 states that exchanges are not per se banned from using privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies but will need to comply with the same BSA regulations they comply with for typical cryptocurrencies. We believe that this is possible. Exchanges need to know their customers but they do not have a black letter law requirement to know the customers of their customers. In other words, a bank needs to know who you are but they are not obligated to know the name and address of people that you pay using cash you withdraw from your account. https://coincenter.org/entry/fincen-s-new-cryptocurrency-guidance-matches-coin-center-recommendationsArguably, this is long-term bullish for Monero.

Another investment you can make is into crypto art. How about my new funded XMR-giftcards? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5140464.0And to make this less of a shill post: Yeah, XMR @ a little over 0.01 is quite juicy imho. Unless Bitcoin manages to implement similar (level1) privacy and fungiblity features (which seems less and less likely as time goes on), Monero will always have a place in the crypto space. Personally I see it in the 10% range of BTC in the long run, but that's just me. Nice looking work. And you and I see this pretty much identically. We are obviously in the stage of crypto that people are catching up with the idea that almost all alt coins are useless at best and most are scams. There are a very few with utility and I think you have nailed the reason why Monero hangs around. Some people like Howard Chu (lmdb/monero dev) think Bitcoin is flawed without layer 1 fungibility and Monero takes it's place. Much respect to him, but I don't think so.. I think your idea is more right. And 10% is a pretty good number. Novogratz agrees. He recently predicted that altcoins will be left behind for a while for this reason. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-05-10/crypto-surges-novogratz-sees-bitcoin-above-20000-within-18-monthsI love my Monero maximalist brothers, but I don't see Bitcoin leaving the #1 spot. The BTC devs want a non-fungible Bitcoin that governments can feel warm and fuzzy about. For that reason, no effective anonymity solutions will be added to the base layer of Bitcoin. Even without privacy, Bitcoin marketcap won't be challenged by any other coin unless there's a catastrophe. It's the Schelling Point of crypto. With that said, Monero is actually in a pretty good market position. It's the undisputed king of privacy coins and doesn't really compete with Bitcoin. Monero may be emerging as the Schelling Point of privacy coins. Mike Novogratz actually holds a significant amount of Monero. Quoting myself:

Anyone got a problem with Ledger Nano S and Monero GUI on Windows? When I type in the password I get error Wrong Device Status : SW=6911 (EXPECT=9000, MASK=ffff) Edited: Will update Ledger to the latest firmware first... Just saw it. Make sure you are using Ledger Live firmware v1.5.5 and Ledger Monero app v1.2.2 in conjunction with either CLI v0.14.0.2 or GUI v0.14.0.0.

..., the client will scan the entire blockchain, which is about 73 GB.
In about a month, this 70GB will reduce into 25GB. What's the command to prune the blockchain? Add --prune-blockchain to the daemon command line You can also use the prune_blockchain tool that will be included. Note that pruning will be included in the upcoming 0.14.1.0 release. For people who start fresh on 14.1.0 and sync from scratch, will the blockchain be pruned by default, or is it going to be necessary to use the prune-blockchain option when starting the daemon for the first time? We plan to make it the default for new users that choose "Simple mode (bootstrap mode)" (which is the default mode by the way).

Looking for some advice.
I have about 6 paper wallets with a small amount of Monero gained from Beating an old Graphics card with stick. I have a Ledger Nano which I bought but I dont trust it so its sat unused. Will my paper wallets become outdated and I will lose the coins (paper wallets become unusable) as monero updates over the years. No Also... Is it possible to import multiple Paper Wallet (seeds) into a freshly downloaded and Sync'ed Monero Wallet?
Yes Also... Will 2020 or 2021 be likely dates for tail emission? Can't remeber, too lazy to look it up. Is Monero going POS? Fuck No. Also... Bitcoin has been forked many times, why hasnt Monero had a successful fork? Is it because its ANON?
They are all scams and only serve to weaken Monero's anonymity. Thanks in advance, been watching the forum for a while.
YW Thank you! Could you point me to some instructions for importing multiple paper wallets? Is it worth using the Ledger? It looks like a lot of messing around and, although I read that bugs have been fixed, I trust paper more! You can simply create multiple wallets in the GUI. Instructions on how to restore a wallet can be found here: https://github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-GUI-guide/blob/master/monero-GUI-guide.mdMake sure to set a sensible restore height: https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/7581/what-is-the-relevance-of-the-restore-heightThe Ledger device will have its own 24 word Ledger mnemonic seed. Thus, you can't import a 25 word Monero mnemonic seed into a Ledger device. Note that a guide on how to create a Ledger Monero wallet can be found here: https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9901/how-do-i-generate-a-ledger-monero-wallet-with-the-gui-monero-wallet-gui

Is there monero full node only secure way to store monero? I'd like to acumulate some but I am afraid it will not be much enough to make a full instalation worth of its work and costs But it could be too much to keep it on exchanges so I am looking for inditect solution
The GUI now also features a simple mode where you automatically connect to a remote node, thereby excluding the need for the blockchain sync. A full node is obviously better for privacy and more secure, but a remote node is still acceptable privacy and security wise.

Hey Guys , I have Monero on a ledger and I would like to claim Monero classic as well but don’t know how. I don’t want to sell the xmc but I would like to have them in a wallet. Can someone explain how to do that?
In order to claim these coins, you would have to convert your Ledger 24 word mnemonic seed into a standard 25 word Monero seed and subsequently import it into a Monero Classic wallet. Probably not worth the incurred risks.

Hey Guys
I have a rig I've just switched back on, all cards working on XMRig except my rx480 8g which starts off ok but then stops after a few runs and reports no hashrate.
I can't remember where I got the bios from, can I just use the Polaris one click on an already modded bios?
I'm trying to run two threads each (rx580,480,570,470) but some also lose a thread after 30+ minutes depending on the clocks I set in Overdrive - pretty sure I have the right values to keep them stable was just playing around. Keen to see what others have set.
I used to use Claymore - was much easier, is there anything like that since the fork?
Cheers

Hello, I have downloaded and installed GUI v0.14 but I have a problem when using it my Ledger Nano S.
When I try to log in on this new version, I get the error message: "Wrong Device Status : SW=6e00 (EXPECT = 9000, Mask = ffff)"
But when I use with the same device (and same USB cable) to log in on GUI v0.13.4, I have not this problem and I am able to log in.
A few tips: 1. Make sure your Ledger Live firmware is v1.5.5 2. Make sure your Ledger Monero app is v1.2.2 3. Make sure you are using GUI v0.14.0.0

I can't open my monero Legder wallet with 0.14. I got "Could't open wallet. Wrong Device status : SW=6e00 (EXPECT=9000, MASK=ffff)".
Any ideas?
EDIT - forget it, I was on firmware 1.4.2. Updated Ledger live and firmware to 1.5.5 and now it works.
Please not that there is a bug in Ledger Monero app v1.1.3. Therefore, Ledger Monero users are advised not to use their wallets until Ledger Monero app v1.2.x is out. https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/b0jjgc/missing_xmr/eif5jdl/

Hi guys. A friend of mine recently got this message when running the latest full node: WARN cn src/cryptonote_core/cryptonote_core.cpp:1767 There were 5 blocks in the last 90 minutes, there might be large hash rate changes, or we might be partitioned, cut off from the Monero network or under attack. Or it could be just sheer bad luck I assume this was just a temporary issue due to the fork and some drastic changes in hash-rate. Or is there some other issue? Thanks for your help. See: https://www.reddit.com/r/monerosupport/comments/azif9x/repeated_message_issue/

Patience is required, but eventually the difficulty will adjust properly. Expect slow block times for the next 24-48 hours.
