181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block chain helping tourism on: November 01, 2016, 12:47:17 PM
Well it's about time some Bitcoin company tried to mix a Blockchain rewards system and the real world similar to what Niantic is doing with Pokemon Go pushing customers to local businesses. Now tourists will have the incentive to visit different points of interests in foreign countries and get rewarded for doing so. I didn't understand what kind of incentive people would get though. Perhaps it would be a cashback offer or a free voucher or maybe something else?
182  Economy / Economics / Re: Paying taxes on forum? on: November 01, 2016, 07:29:52 AM
If Bitcoin is not considered an official currency then I suppose it's not taxable. And it's hard to trace Bitcoin transactions in general so the taxation office might not even be aware of people moving around digital money and they might as well not be able to follow where this digital money is coming from so I guess there is no need to include any Bitcoin profits on your annual tax form.
183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin accepted in over 10.000 Swiss locations on: November 01, 2016, 06:26:05 AM
this sounds like the same setup as zipzap which was gonna open up thousands of terminals in the uk and beyond for bitcoin sales. then nothing was ever heard from them again. it's cool all the same.
This is specially big because Switzerland is not a country that has enough size to consider 10.000 as small amount. In Switzerland 10.000 and growing means full adoption is comming soon. Pretty much ever kilometer would see one at this pace.

The article you posted mentions 10 000 locations worldwide as of now, it doesn't mean that they are going to open 10 000 terminals right now in Switzerland offering the service of buying Bitcoins to station passengers. But anyway this would be a great way of acquiring Bitcoin for Swiss citizens or people owning a Swiss telephone number which I guess is not a hard thing to obtain once you are in Switzerland.

The answer to the text in bold:

If you want a pre-paid phone number in Switzerland then you have to give your ID to the seller, he will make a copy of it and transmit it to the company from where the SIM card is ... if you make some bad things with that phone number police can find you easy as 1 2 3.

So buying BTC in Switzerland isn't that good as it seems. They will know you bought BTC or sold  using that phone number.

It's a common practice to hand out your ID when purchasing pre-paid sim cards in foreign countries, I have done the same on numerous occasions while traveling abroad. My point was that people could get a Swiss telephone number and purchase some coins when they are on location that's all. There are legitimate people wanting to get their hands on a Swiss sim card and not all are shady individuals.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This School Accepts Bitcoin ! on: November 01, 2016, 06:01:23 AM
The school I teach at will take bitcoin. It hasn't happened so far, but the owners have some BTC and they see the light.  Cool

Do you mind sharing which school you are teaching at? I have heard about colleges and universities offering students the opportunity to pay for course fees and tuition fees with Bitcoin so Bitcoin is gaining popularity among higher education institutions as well. I have heard  also that people can take a course about Bitcoin 101 and pay for it with Bitcoin so cool  Cheesy

1. Bitcoin price on 12/31/2017 will be “higher”
Okay that would be great but he hasn't mentioned what exactly the price would be higher than at next year's Christmas. Is it going to be higher than this year's Christmas value or is it going to be higher than the all time high value of $1250? I hope he means the latter  Cheesy

Hey guys, I have been off the forum for quite some time due to being busy with personal matters but now I am back. I have been trying to browse the forum since yesterday but it seems to be on and off all the time. Does anyone know what's going on with the hosting? And I am wondering if these issues only affect people from certain countries or is this a global problem with connecting to the forum?

192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: July 05, 2016, 01:24:00 PM
Well Mourinho is not a magician and he can't just overhaul the whole Manchester United squad and make them a strong favorite against any team like they used to be in just 1 season alone. And I don't think United has any young stars either except maybe for Rashford. Most of their players are old washed-out former big names like Rooney and now another aging player like Ibrahimovich has joined the team. United should try to build a team around young talented players like Ajax is doing because this generation will play for years to come while old players will be dropped in a year or 2.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is too slow on: July 05, 2016, 12:31:09 PM
Bitcoin is not slow when used for sending money abroad like remittances or gifts to friends and family. This is the biggest strength of Bitcoin - the very low to non-existent fees. Bitcoin can get a little bit inconvenient when used for daily shopping with small amounts like buying a cup of coffee or a sandwich because most vendors will wait for some confirmations in order to be sure that the transaction will be legitimate and this is where Bitcoin is lacking some speed. But for these situations people could use cash instead and be on their way without waiting.
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So is Bitcoin a SAFE Asset? on: July 05, 2016, 11:37:46 AM
Bitcoin is not a safe asset as in a store of value with a stable price attached to it. Not in the slightest actually. As it stands right now Bitcoin is a highly volatile commodity mostly used by speculators who mostly participate in pump and dump schemes thus the high fluctuation in price. I don't think Bitcoin is a stable asset in uncertain economic times, it's certainly a high risk-high reward venture that can make you win a lot or lose a lot. I wouldn't like my livelihood to depend on it and I am not investing all my worth into Bitcoin for now.
195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the best thing to trade on: July 05, 2016, 10:04:17 AM
Bitcoin right now due to its high volatility could yield the highest ROI in the shortest time possible. But because the price is fluctuating so much one could win a lot but also lose a lot. So investing in Bitcoin is like a double-edged sword because no one knows for sure if this trend will continue in the future and for how long before the investments turn from positive into negative.
196  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People deserve to lose their Bitcoins ? on: July 02, 2016, 11:02:30 AM
No honest people who have earned their money with hard work and dedication deserve to lose their funds be it in the form of digital cash or paper money. I think Bitcoin is a prime target for hackers and dishonest exchange operators because it's easier to claim that something went wrong with people's money and cover their tracks without the fear of repercussions. I guess if business is done face-to-face and not over the veil of the Internet people would think twice before resorting to scamming or hacking.
197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People deserve to lose their Bitcoins ? on: July 02, 2016, 09:46:56 AM
The Bitcoin market is like the Wild West right now. There are no rules, no government control and no honesty. Also Bitcoin being in the gray area right now and a digital asset at that makes it very easy for sly companies to embezzle customers' funds and blame the breach of security on non-existent hackers because most if not all of the incidents were inside jobs in a direct or indirect way. I have noticed that Bitcoin has made people very greedy to the point that they are happy with investing coins at dubious businesses as long as they can get a handsome profit which is usually just a misleading miscalculation - for example the cloudmining websites and other HYIP schemes.
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase has partnered with Paypal - Officially! on: June 26, 2016, 08:53:41 AM
Two centralized companies working together to join a decentralized world. Er, doesn't seem like the best idea for them or the community. *shudders*

Yeah I don't think the Bitcoin community will be happy with getting controlled by government-owned companies that can spy on you every minute but unfortunately in order for Bitcoin to get more global adoption and to get more mainstream it means it has to give up freedom and become more centralized that's the sad truth. Centralization in exchange for adoption. Only time will show if this will work out for a decentralized system like the Bitcoin network or not, but it looks like the success lies in the hybridization of decentralization and centralization.
199  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Euro 2016 on: June 26, 2016, 07:45:38 AM
France is the big favorite today to win vs Ireland and I think they will do this in regulation time so I will bet on France ML. I think they will manage to sneak a cheeky goal at least in the second half of the match to win the game.
Looks like Germany is not the powerhouse any more that they used to be during the World Cup in Brazil and I think they will have some problems vs Slovakia but I think they will win the match today with one or two goals. I fancy betting on Germany to win the game and under 2.5 goals.
Hungary showed some great performance against big teams but I think Belgium will stop them today with superior gameplay and more skilled players. Now that Croatia is out of the tournament Belgium can step up their game and reach the final. They have the potential to do it today so Belgium to win. Good luck guys  Cheesy
200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 6-WINS IN ROW Challenge ON EURO2016 by Joca97 on: June 25, 2016, 11:03:10 PM
I think Portugal's coach knew that his team couldn't beat Croatia with an open offensive play so he decided to park the bus for 90 minutes and hoped that something would happen like a random goal on a counter attack or something. Actually the match was so boring that I even fell asleep during the break and woke up when the game was already in extra time just a moment before Quaresma scored that header goal. I have been looking forward to watching this game so much but both teams put an absolute horrid performance just so they wouldn't lose in regulation time. I hope we won't see such plays in the remaining games of the knockout stage. What a big disappointment this match was.
