181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steve Wozniak Calls Bitcoin a "Miracle," Says It's Better Than Gold on: July 13, 2021, 10:33:33 PM
While Wozniak's statements seem to be in favor of cryptocurrencies, if we look deep into it - it becomes clear that he only sees Bitcoin as an asset, comparing it to gold and making emphasis on its scarcity.

But then one question: if it's such a good investment opportunity, why don't you invest yourself?

Although it seems more like an attempt to promote the personal project Efforce, nevertheless, I think Wozniak's word will have an overall good impact on the perception of Bitcoin, so that's rather good news than bad.
182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Nigerian government changing the state of lotteries on: July 13, 2021, 09:42:44 PM
Didn't lotteries already have legal status in Nigeria? In that case, that is not that much of a change, basically, that's the government officially stating that lotteries are profitable and "we'll take care of it from now on". But that could be a good sign.

Indeed, governments can make huge profits from the lottery business. For instance, in the US in 2015 the overall net income generated from lotteries was as big as $21.4 billion. Hopefully, the new approach from the government will make things more regulated and help Nigeria to generate big income as well.
183  Economy / Economics / Re: Can cryptocurrencies replace fiat currencies on: July 13, 2021, 08:52:11 PM
That would only be possible in the case of centralization, because, obviously, all money supply can't be left without control (at least now it is hard to imagine how that could be regulated).
If the governments accept cryptocurrency (meaning actual crypto, NOT digital currencies) as an official way of payment - they will start looking for regulations to control it, track the movement of funds, and that would basically destroy the purpose of cryptocurrencies.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google has lifted its ban on crypto advertisements on: July 12, 2021, 11:42:20 PM
Finally, after 3 years! Let's just hope that this will not have a negative effect, as people are often annoyed by the rising number of ads and, subconsciously, the anger becomes directed towards the advertised object.

However, I don't understand why they didn't allow advertising websites that simply compare cryptocurrency issuers?
Quote
Ad destinations that aggregate or compare issuers of cryptocurrencies or related products

Surely, the opinion and comparative analysis on such websites could be biased, which poses a threat to some extent, but apart from that, that doesn't seem like something particularly harmful. Especially considering the fact that the Internet is full of such websites anyway and it's almost impossible to find a sound analysis as the criteria everyone uses in terms of comparing cryptocurrencies differ depending on the context and features compared.
185  Economy / Economics / Re: Green European funds may deal a blow to Tesla on: July 12, 2021, 10:16:25 PM
IMO it has already been pretty long since EV was no longer a moat, and things are getting worse for Tesla each year, as the competition grows. GM is already making more profit, and considering that prices for Tesla are skyrocketing, people will likely (if not already) consider switching.

The EV market also expands quickly with such companies as Ford, Renault, Volkswagen offering EVs. But the decision by the EU will most likely make things even worse for Tesla.

I don't know what should we expect from Musk, but leaving the company at difficult times like this would literally be the worst and cowardly move from the CEO, I rather hope he'll work on some new implementations that would give his company an advantage against the competing companies.

Also, let's not forget that Musk owns a large chunk of Tesla's shares, so, at least, it is in his pragmatic interest to keep the company alive.
186  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling or playing? on: July 12, 2021, 09:18:53 PM
Generally, I think this is a good combination, but of course, it should be noted that this kind of games tend to be even more addictive, so it would be best if there were options for players whether they want the gambling feature implemented or not. The same goes for underaged players - at least there should be a warning sign or some sort of permission request.

But it's strictly the addiction part that concerns me here. If we're talking about the involvement of money in the gaming industry, it wouldn't be fair to blame the gambling part here, because, let's face it, nowadays almost ALL games, even the harmless ones designed for kids, involve money.
It's not necessary, but you always get these attractive propositions to pay for some sort of coins, equipping, or whatever, depends on the game you're playing, in order to advance.
187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if all the currencies in the movie are Bitcoin? on: July 10, 2021, 09:37:45 PM
The problem with Bitcoin adoption nowadays is not that people don't know about it (like 10 years ago), but that they don't trust Bitcoin. Gaining people's trust through culture is generally a good idea because it will draw a lot of attention at once, but there are certain obstacles here too.

For instance, if we're talking about a movie, then the character that promotes Bitcoin should play the main part, should be positive, and very well-known (e.g. Superman level), otherwise people won't be interested. But how to include cryptocurrencies in such a context so that it would not affect the storyline or look too obtrusive?

The other issue is more difficult. Promoting cryptocurrencies has its consequences and not many production companies will be willing to take the responsibility. For instance, WB makes a movie mentioning Bitcoin, next thing they know the movie is banned in China, or they'll be criticized all over the media for "crypto promotion", many would start thinking that they have a personal interest in this.
188  Economy / Economics / Re: Understanding marketcaps and valuations on: July 10, 2021, 09:00:42 PM
Great explanation. The important thing that can be derived from here is the danger that comes with too high valuations. Greedy businessmen like to set very high valuations because they only think of the number they see, but don't think of the difficulties it would take to reach that number.

Initially, the high valuation might create hype and some investors would buy it, though the serious ones will most likely be skeptical. But along with that, high expectations come and if the company doesn't fulfill the hopes - everyone will start to look at the company as a failure and, at this point, attracting new investors will be very difficult.

189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What does it take for a game to "hook" people on: July 10, 2021, 08:15:08 PM
This is something that I haven't seen implemented in a casino/gambling website, but it most certainly works elsewhere. Gamification is often implemented in places of study, so as you progress through the course, you earn badges, and achievements. We already know how addicting it can be to collect achievements, because Xbox, and Playstation has been doing it for a long time now. I don't know why more gambling places don't implement a similar system. You could effectively convince the player to think they are winning, by rewarding them achievements, while they are losing money potentially causing them to keep that feel good factor, and gamble more than they would normally. It might not be entirely ethical, and I'm not saying that they should implement it, I'm just surprised there isn't more utilizing this.
There is an element of gamification on certain websites, where frequent players are rewarded with more bonuses, a certain amount of wagered money gives you tickets to different tournaments and giveaways, which otherwise would've cost a lot of money.

From what I know, Roobet has advanced pretty well in that field, they have different levels for users, and with more wagering, a player can progress to a new level, which opens up new opportunities.

That is a good client approach (for the casino, of course), not only this makes customers happy once they lose, but also retains them and prevents from playing on other websites.
190  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: signs of gambling addiction on: July 10, 2021, 07:32:40 PM
Yes, that sounds like a pretty serious sign of addiction, if one can't sleep calmly and thinks of gambling instead. That is a pretty dangerous condition in terms of financial security because that obsession can lead a person to start gambling at night. The latter, obviously, is a bad idea since brain activity will be reduced and that person will make risky moves which he wouldn't normally do, and thus lose a lot of money.
191  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the biggest investment opportunity in the future on: July 10, 2021, 06:26:44 PM
Bitcoin has its pros and cons as an investment opportunity. Generally, it is designed to be a currency, so the better the situation will be - the more stability will be reached in the market and investment won't be very profitable. Only if we're talking about a very long-term investment that would make sense nowadays.

Bitcoin is reliable, you'll certainly make some profit even if you buy now, but considering high prices it's not that easy for the majority of people. Say, in a matter of a few years Bitcoin will reach $100,000 and you invest now $1000 worth of BTC that will give you roughly $2000 profit over a year, which isn't that big. Investing in stocks, on the other hand, can bring you way more profit, and there's an opportunity to make diverse investments. Say, invest $100 in 10 different projects, which will increase your chances of gaining more profit.

One can say that alts is a good alternative and works pretty much the same, but I disagree with that point, as alts isn't a good option in the long term, unlike stocks.
192  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Games that still pay Bitcoin? on: July 10, 2021, 04:33:10 PM
Doesn't Primedice pay in Bitcoin? They only have one game, though, and lately many bad reviews were coming up against them. Idk why, used to be a great website once, maybe something has changed.

Also, some people mentioned faucets here. Honestly, I think it's a waste of time, instead of sitting and waiting for hours to get a penny one could've found a job and earned way more Cheesy

I don't know how about casino websites, seems like they don't offer faucets nowadays, because almost everywhere there's a demo mode in which you can test the game. But here's an exchange https://www.bestchange.com/ where every 60 min one can claim faucets ranging from 1 to 100 satoshis.

But once again, I wouldn't recommend such a thing to anyone who has better things to do in their lives  Cheesy
193  Economy / Economics / Re: How long will it take for CBDCs to become a reality? on: July 10, 2021, 04:05:08 PM
There would be no point in centralized by CBDCs digital currencies because the main advantage of cryptocurrencies will be lost. I personally think that what the Chinese government is doing to their people is a crime, because they're leaving people no choice, everything will be tracked. After the imposure of a ban on crypto, fiat was their only way to be out of sight, and now they're about to ban it too.
194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are some interesting ways you've introduced bitcoin to your friends? on: July 09, 2021, 11:04:07 PM
I give Bitcoin "Paper Wallets" as gifts for Birthdays and Xmas with the other gifts I give to people. I tell them, if they do not shift those coins to another wallet within a year, then I will take it back and give them the equivalent value in Fiat currencies at the time I gifted it to them. (Many of the friends and family then make some extra effort to learn more about Bitcoin and even more so, if the price has gone up significantly ..since I gifted it to them)

One of my friends received Bitcoin from me and the price doubled within that year, so he shifted the coins to a wallet and then cashed out his gift to Fiat at an exchange for double the price I initially gifted it to him. (He was so impressed with that, that he re-invested 50% back into bitcoins and other Alt coins)  Wink
Wow, ingenious! I guess I should also try that out someday too.
When I was in high school my relatives used to reward me for good excellence, but they gave me the money in USD, which is not the national currency in my country, to make a point that if I exchange now I will lose the opportunity to gain (because there's always inflation in my country and relative value of USD only grows with years).

I suppose it's time to play the same trick on them with Bitcoin Cheesy
195  Economy / Economics / Re: At least it was something great on: July 09, 2021, 10:15:19 PM
You are right to compare the cryptocurrency world with revolution, because that's what this is, only not violent, but peaceful, yet not meaningless. Come to think of it, what happened is remarkable.

Everything started just some 12 years ago and it all began as a joke, as something interesting and original, and now Bitcoin had gained such a great impact that it is constantly discussed on the governmental level, many are afraid and see it as a treat, everyone takes this matter seriously now.

It is a new history indeed, and all of us contributed to that. No matter how much you buy Bitcoin and how often do you use it, just being a part of this world already makes a big difference.
196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The most profitable gambling strategies, what are they? on: July 09, 2021, 09:46:57 PM
Talking about betting and strategy, there are some bets that are often made by many gambling players who do strategies, some are not used.
Example:
• Poker: in poker games to determine the value of cards and get an advantage in poker games strategy must be prioritized and also professional experience.
• Crash: this game also uses strategy in placing bets where when the rocket stops and the rocket flies, here you need a strategy in assessing the rocket moving and stopping.
• Sportsbook: this game is based on luck and includes the ability to judge as well as knowledge about sports, teams, matches etc, which involve sports.
• Slots: based on the spin of the machine at the time you press the button, this is also luck, even though it is in the category of slots stating strategy.

For this reason, some gambling games use a betting strategy, some don't use a strategy, depending on the bets placed and the games being played.
Poker, sports betting - absolutely, these are the types of gambling where one can improve. But crash...man, it's just impossible to see or know when will the rocket crash, otherwise, it would be too easy.

Sometimes you play safely at 1.2-1.3, but it crashes right away from the start! Several times in a row! Although, after a long time of playing I started to see some kind of pattern, if the rocket flies very high - that means that soon it will crash low. But maybe that's just the way it seems because it doesn't always work.
197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EURO 2020 England vs Italy - Poll ⚽ on: July 08, 2021, 11:58:00 PM
Both teams are impressive, decent opponents, I hope to see some great game there, this is going to be something! But my vote is for Italy, 2-1, their performance was impressive so far, hope the final will be no exclusion.
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are some interesting ways you've introduced bitcoin to your friends? on: July 08, 2021, 11:19:09 PM
I regret that this was the way of presenting cryptocurrencies, but years ago one of my friends had to do something..let's just say that wasn't exactly legal in our country and he was struggling to find a way to make the transaction for it so that it wouldn't be linked to his ID, and that's how I told him about Bitcoin.

Actually not the best suggestion with no mixers involved, now that we know Bitcoin can be traced, but back then that knowledge wasn't that spread, and it was still the best choice. Turned out fine.
Nowadays, I think I don't need to introduce Bitcoin to anyone anymore, everyone seems to already know about it.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if influential people buy Bitcoin back and forth? on: July 08, 2021, 09:47:07 PM
Yes, the words of influential people with a large audience in mass media promote changes, even in the cryptocurrency world, we can see the consequences of it right now. Sometimes it can be even more meaningful than the influence of the whole country (as a very recent example: Elon vs China impact on the crypto market).
Quote
Although the market needs volatility, is this kind of random volatility still meaningful?
In the long term volatility isn't a good feature in terms of currency, but at the initial stage, when promotion and spread of news is crucial for massive adoption - volatility plays an important role because it attracts the attention of mass media and investors.

200  Economy / Economics / Re: The first rule of investing is saving on: July 08, 2021, 09:11:02 PM
I especially like this point
Quote
- If you have credits unpaid (other than mortgages or other asset backed credits), you pay those first because they charge you a lot.
That is so true! I know quite a few so-called investors that lent money and are deep in debts, but they constantly buy stocks and imagine that soon they'll become millionaires and pay everything off.

That is the wrong kind of thinking, imo. To make money first one needs to do is at least reach point zero, where at least you don't owe anyone and can safely live off your stable income. Then everything else should come, otherwise not only you lose on those %, but also can't think broad, because the debts will be on the mind. Such people will always look for fast and easy money, while the key to a good investment strategy is patience.
