401  Economy / Economics / Tesla stops car purchases with Bitcoin on: May 13, 2021, 11:23:12 AM
The real reason behind the sudden drop in price?

Guess what? Yesterday Tesla announced that the company will no longer accept car purchases with Bitcoin.
Who's surprised?

But it's not this fact, that pisses me off. Businessmen buy Bitcoin, sell Bitcoin, fine, do whatever you want with it, but the most annoying thing about this is how he still wants to seem all warm and fuzzy.

Elon Musk explained this decision on Twitter, stating that the company's concern is with the ecological aspect of Bitcoin mining and transactions:

Quote
Tesla has suspended vehicle purchases using Bitcoin. We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel.

Like hell you are! Didn't know about that fact when made a purchase worth $1.5B?

Quote
Concerns about bitcoin's energy demands have been around since the very beginning, with crypto pioneer Hal Finney tweeting about potential future CO2 emissions on 27 January 2009 – just two weeks after receiving the first ever bitcoin transaction from the cryptocurrency's pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

Source: https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/bitcoin-bad-environment-mining-cryptocurrency-b1846773.html

And this, in fact, is a total bs, because of all currencies cryptocurrencies are considered to be rather eco-friendly as compared to the fiat system. Why? Because paper money production and running banks...surprise-surprise - require huge energy consumption.

Quote
The estimated global production costs of paper currency in 2014 were 5 terawatts per year and 10 billion liters of water. While the banking system alone is even consuming more energy than the Bitcoin network, bankings energy costs are calculated around 100 terawatts per year. This is almost double that of Bitcoin. Indeed, banks need to run a lot of servers, branches and ATMs to keep their system accessible to the public.

Your thoughts on this? Are cryptocurrencies, and, in particular, Bitcoin, that harming to the environment when compared to cash? Or is this just an excuse for screwing people over?
402  Economy / Economics / Re: Year 2021-2022 will be very Good and very Bad. on: May 13, 2021, 01:31:12 AM
Not every niche on the market crashed during the pandemic, let's not forget that there's a bunch of companies that actually benefited from this, companies like Microsoft, Zoom, Netflix.
Also, I know many people that switched their regular jobs to freelancing and adjusted everything to an online format and it turned out they've even increased their income as compared to the previous year. I'm sure that many here can related and know similar examples.

My point is, the pandemic isn't the end of the world and you won't become poor if you've got brains and know what to do with your life. There are ways of overcoming this problem and it's not just about buying dollars (which I personally doubt will be of much help).
403  Economy / Gambling / Re: Very immoral marketing strategy. on: May 12, 2021, 11:55:23 PM
This is just another form of promotion and as marketing strategy it has been already pointed out several time and some country/youtuber more impacted.
It's should be declared clearly that there is a "connection" or a "promo" between the two sides like any other advertisement on social network.

Most of users are very expert about casinos and are pretty aware about these fake wins/promo.
The real problem, could arise when promotion will involve a scam casino or any other shady gambling site.

I don't think that the problem is with promoting any shady sites per se.

Most people who promote gambling sites on Youtube generally do so as an affiliate of some pretty well known sites (Duelbits, Roobet etc. where legitimacy is not really an issue).

What is really important is that they are concealing the fact that they are not playing with their own money, and they are able to pick and choose at what pieces of footage they want to keep (obviously the ones where they win) and which ones to discard.

That's the real danger here.
I don't see a danger here, tbh. Who in the right mind seeing a video of someone doing an extraordinary thing thinks "Oh, great, I can do the same!"? We all know that winning with very high payouts/multipliers on slots is a very rare thing. If some people have false expectations after seeing those vids, idk, they should go see a doctor, probably.
404  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Man lost £20,000 in one night after becoming addicted to online gambling! on: May 12, 2021, 09:56:33 PM
I'm a bit skeptical about this news since the man seems more like a photo model than a gambling addict, and the advertisement tho.. (cough @Footsteps)

Anyway, if the story is true, the problem is always betting tremendous amount of money that he couldn't afford to lose. Remember the 10:90 principle, 10% of your net worth max for gambling, and this problem won't exist.

I don't know, losing 10% of your net worth is already a lot, from my standpoint. True, it's not a killing amount, but it's enough to make someone think about getting it back, "to recover the losses", as gamblers like to say. I think a gambler should risk not more than he/she can easily afford to lose. Losing 10% of all your money is never easy.
405  Economy / Gambling / Re: Nitrogensports scam making excuses to pay me my poker tournament winnings. on: May 12, 2021, 07:52:18 PM
~ This is clearly the difference between a professional platform (who understand poker and how difficult is to win two tourneys back to back) and a complete hoax scam artist.

Then maybe play on professional platforms and avoid such places. What was the reason that you decided to play there in the first place? Let me guess, seemingly better bonuses, conditions, and all that, than on other sites, right? That should be a red flag, no? That and zero to no reviews on legitimate sites. I've checked it and found that there's no trustworthy positive review on nitrobetting. I wouldn't expect much from such a site.
406  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tom Brady changes his twitter profile pic to Laser Eyes on: May 11, 2021, 11:26:56 PM
Interesting, celebrities are starting to talk more about Bitcoin lately more than usual, some kind of a chain reaction has happened here a few months ago.
I've just read another thread in Bitcoin Discussion telling that Mark Zuckerberg named his GOAT "bitcoin", probably just a coincidence..
But what if not, wouldn't that be hilarious? Public figures making fun of each other out in the open like that.
407  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sumo betting seems rigged - can you make profit with it? on: May 11, 2021, 11:08:26 PM
It has been said that Sumo, the Japanese fighting sport is not as clean as it should be. Apparently, in the maximum cathegory - short of a premier league - there is tendency to let win those who need to win in order to remain in that cathegory. This was studied and mentioned later on a book called Freakconomics.
An article here-
The references in the article you provided are dated over a decade ago, the things can be different now. But nonetheless, why there wouldn't be rigging in sumo? If other combat sports are so easily rigged, why can't this one be?

Do you feel that knowing that a sport may be rigged you could actually turn it in your favour?
Obviously, no. Unless someone from the inside spills the beans. In another case, rigging will more likely be a disadvantage, because you place bets basing on what you know about the sportsmen, the teams, their previous fighting, etc., and if the game's rigged the things become unpredictable.
408  Economy / Economics / Re: Are you aware of Shrinkflation? on: May 11, 2021, 10:50:49 PM
This is news to me, I'm probably one of the few that haven't noticed.
In my country, the prices are skyrocketing so much you don't even look at those things anymore. On one hand, 180g against 200g doesn't seem like a big difference, not to the customer. But on a large scale, for the companies and distributors it means a lot of additional profit. I hate the fact that customers are being fd over like that, especially in times of crisis.
409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Zuckerberg named his goat Bitcoin on: May 11, 2021, 10:22:13 PM
he is jealous that bitcoin got what he tried and didn't get when he created Libra. he should be a less envious person and he should also be a sensible person. make fun like that Is something bad even for him
I don't know if it's correct to judge the person's character from a movie, but, when I recall the movie The Social Network this kind of actions don't seem that surprising.
On the other hand, we can't really know what kind of person he is and I think that it's quite possible he's just having some fun and there was no hidden motivation behind that.
At a times like this, I honestly feel sorry for famous and public figures, they're simply making a post and people are starting to see manipulation attempts, resentfulness, and concealed messages.
410  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where's the instructions? Where's the warnings? on: May 11, 2021, 01:52:13 AM
Ok, now I realize why the mods don't delete these threads. This is just too hilarious Cheesy

1. A woman wearing a lab coat, that sure as hell makes her a specialist! Well, good to know, this means half the planet are doctors as well.

2. Blank sheet? Don't believe it, probably a dumb setup, a child could do it. But even if there was some kind of mistake (which I seriously doubt), so what? It took me less than a minute to find all the required info about the J&J vaccine on the FDA website, so the doctors have that covered and no one hides any info.

3. All your conspiracy threads tell us one thing (except for lack of critical judgment): you have no idea how the market works, do you?
If there was ANY slightest problem with the vaccine, the first ones to find out and share that info would be the competing companies. There are people working 24/7 to search for that kind of stuff. And, believe me, if there was ANYTHING to find - the info would become viral within hours, not kept from peoples' sight on some bitchute.com.
Pharm companies are making huge money from these vaccines, which means, that this market is more competitive than ever, we're talking about billions of $ here. So, once again, if there was anything to find about the quality, storing, packaging, etc. - we'd know about it, it's not the middle ages anymore.
411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be hijacked by world billionaires??? on: May 11, 2021, 01:03:22 AM
Nope, not in the slightest. Tesla acquired only around 43.000 BTC, while there are 18.7 million bitcoins in circulation right now. Do you realize what a scarce amount Tesla and Elon own? Not to mention, that simply owning the BTC doesn't have anything to do with controlling it. You need a computer with a processing power >51% of the total network power. Which is..impossible.
412  Economy / Gambling / Re: Very immoral marketing strategy. on: May 10, 2021, 11:39:32 PM
I don’t think you can blame the advertiser for trying to make their product appear as exciting as possible. As long as their games are provably honest and they aren’t doing anything other than what they have promised their customers, I don’t think there’s an issue. It’s not like they’re going to show you someone losing their retirement savings and their family after using their site…
It's still on the players discretion to play on that site if everything was already seen by them. The thing is if you want to play on a site you're not familiar with then better to DYOR, that's the best thing every player/gambler can do.
I'm afraid that DYOR is the very thing that sometimes leads people to watch those streamers. Some people perceive these vids as reviews on certain casinos. I mean, this actually sounds insane, I thought everyone knew that they're getting paid for it, and the streamers are sometimes even open about such things. But, judging from the OP's post, apparently not  Cheesy
413  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online gambling risks during coronavirus pandemic on: May 09, 2021, 11:02:12 PM
  • Social distancing should not lead to social isolation, so talk to your friends and peers and discuss your gambling problem with them. Having support can make a big difference.
This one is particularly important, as for the past year many people have stayed isolated and, while some may prefer it and even see it as a benefit, for many people, it's been stress they were not prepared for.

It's a common belief, that gambling is triggered by greed and too much excitement over such games, but the reality is that a large portion of gamblers is doing it out of boredom, loneliness, and a sense of isolation. Gambling serves them as entertainment and a distraction from the problems and such people are more likely to become addicted, due to this consolation they seek in gambling.

Even years ago it's been common knowledge, there's an interesting study, which was conducted back in 1998 when people used to gamble with EGM, that shows that among problem gamblers are more likely to experience boredom and loneliness as compared to non-gamblers or non-problematic gamblers.
414  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are you storing cash in banknotes? on: May 09, 2021, 10:18:07 PM
That's not stupid at all, people should be prepared for the worst. I keep money on bank accounts in several different banks, crypto, and cash, just like you. While the probability of Visa shutting down is extremely low, however, would it hurt to be prepared, just in case?
Also, I'm thinking of starting stock investments. Even though it is not quite a good way of keeping money and can lead to losses I'll try it anyway.
I think the more various types of investments a person uses - the better.
415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mixing your Bitcoin might become illegal in the future on: May 09, 2021, 09:52:06 PM
Governments want to control, crypto is the way of avoiding it and having some privacy. However, everyone knows that Bitcoin transactions can be traceable and the only way to avoid it is to either create a large number of crypto wallets, don't connect them, use different exchanges, etc. or, the more efficient way - use mixing services.
Simply, the govs want to keep the control they have at the moment, so they'll have to enforce a ban on such services.
I think it's very much a possibility. And not only in countries like Russia, but the US as well, because all this crypto-friendly stuff is bs, they only want us to believe we've gained some freedom here, while the truth is quite different. Don't want to sound paranoid, but it's just the way things are.
416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you limit your gambling time? on: May 08, 2021, 08:30:53 PM
Personally I think keeping track is a wise decision as it helps analyze in the future if we want, relying only on memory is tricky
writing down our feelings and thoughs also helps a lot on learning more about our decision-making process too.
It's helpful for those gamblers that can't manage their funds and all of sudden realize that they ran out of money, and also, in some cases, it helps to realize that you gamble too much and simply can't afford it if total monthly income and expenditures are taken into account.
However, with many players, it doesn't work, because the problem isn't with realizing the amount of money you lose (many gamblers already know how deep they are), but rather with doing something about it.
417  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where to seek help if you need; concerned with gambling addiction. on: May 08, 2021, 07:40:33 PM
You are literally reading my mind! Good for you to create this thread. I just recently had a thought: there are so many people with gambling addiction, and some portion of them are on this forum, creating threads and sharing their problems. But the thing is when a gambling addict is sharing a problem everyone just keeps saying "you need professional help, go get help, you're addicted", but no one actually gives sound advice as to where to get this help, which forms of treatment are effective, etc.

You've shared some good sources on Gambling Helplines and Anonymous clubs, I think these might be helpful.
To that, I can add a link to a guide with a very in-depth look into the gambling addiction problem, especially the reasons for it, good tips and advice, and it also contains many sources to some popular techniques.

However, looking deeply into this problem I can see that stress-relieving methods and psychotherapy sessions may not be enough in severe cases. In such cases, I believe, only medical intervention can help. I've found a study, which, contrary to many beliefs, shows that medical help can have a positive effect. In particular, such substances as naltrexone and memantine can be used for different types of gambling addiction.

More info regarding these medications for gambling addiction is behind the links:

Naltrexone - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6426388/

Memantine - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3465841/
418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Metromile plans to adopt Bitcoin on: May 08, 2021, 07:10:14 PM
Another step to adoption as well, I haven't heard insurance platform that allows it's policy holder to pay and received in Bitcoin, so most probably this is the first and could set a precedence in their industry.

Globalnewswire says so. Metromile will be the first insurance company to both accept premiums and pay claims in cryptocurrency.[1]

But this is not the first time an insurance company joins the Bitcoin community. Late last year, Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual) also officially joined the community by purchasing $100 million worth of Bitcoin.[2]

But there must have been other insurance companies which have gotten themselves involved in Bitcoin one way or another beforehand.

[1] https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2021/05/06/2224468/0/en/Metromile-Plans-to-Adopt-Bitcoin-to-Offer-Drivers-More-Choice.html
[2] https://www.wsj.com/articles/massmutual-joins-the-bitcoin-club-with-100-million-purchase-11607626800
The MassMutual company only got involved with Bitcoin by making an investment, where the only purpose was to make a profit. The Metromile, on the other hand, will provide the opportunity for the customers to both pay and receive payouts with Bitcoin. Thus, I believe, it really is the first insurance company to offer such an option.
419  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Be a Responsible Gambler on: May 08, 2021, 05:54:34 PM
Is this a new event that happened on your life or is this a recollection of something that happened to you some time ago? If this is something that just happened then my recommendation is that if your girlfriend or wife forgives you that you give her complete control over the finances of the family and go as far as maybe even canceling the Internet connection in your home, this may seem harsh but you are in an incredibly difficult position and something drastic needs to be done if you want to get out of this situation.
Seems like it was a new event. The addiction of gambling is truly bad. OP shouldn't get back into gambling, even not in hope of recovery. He will keep losing, because he has huge debate. As a result he will feel pressure always during gambling and won't be able to stop him from keep playing after recovering small amount. The situation is tricky for him. He should search for a job which will keep him busy and help him to stay away from gambling.
Exactly! It seems that many here fail to understand how hard and tricky the addiction can be. I think it would be fair to say, that all gamblers are addicted to some extent, but while some can control it, others can't.
The OP won't stop considering that even the $35k debt didn't stop him. It truly is a sad situation and the only solution here is to redirect this addiction towards something else. E.g. find a new occupation, work, business even better and put all mind and effort into it. Busy people can become addicted as well, but at least they don't have that much time to gamble and to think about it.
420  Economy / Economics / Re: The Modern Mode of Payments on: May 08, 2021, 05:27:54 PM
It has not be announced officially that money can be another means of contacting virus from different sections, so therefore I think that point of yours is not really clear and understandable from my perspective, I hope it needs concentration to look towards it, I'm not disputing your points but I believe such disease can't be transmitted through Fiat currency or Money, from the aspect of dropping Fiat, it seems that in different societies have noticed the benefit of cryptocurrency that is while some prefer crypto than Fiat because can't make am impact multiplication of money if be stored.
There is a wide range of research, that demonstrates that coronavirus can stick to many surfaces for a pretty long period of time. Here's a good article, which represents info about the virus viability on different surfaces, including paper banknotes. According to this study, the virus can remain viable on paper money for as long as 28 days at room temperature.
