@paramind22 sia is PoW

and when functional, data storage farming

Will that reward people?  I must be confusing SIA with another coin that isn't POS but not POW which I thought was rewarding
holders for the last couple of years.

Siacoin is earned by renting out your unused hard drive space. You can also mine it using your hard drive.  It doesn't stake and you cant earn more simply by having some.

The catch is getting used and/or new HD's to rent out such space does not count. Not prudent or feasible or practical at all. The amount of space to make anything on siacoin storage

would require you to have an existing data hall and just do this for kicks. In that you already own the hardware and using it for data storage anyway, so why not use the unused space. It

seems that may be more trouble than it is worth at this time in the sia-tech storage universe for even that to be worthwhile.

I've said it before. Much talk of this storage option but very little in the real world, to justify such equipment purchases either used HD's or new HD's to make this feasible at this time.

But a lot more real-world $$$ can be made in the ASIC miner money making by sia-tech (what is it the 7th batch now?). To top that off, even the last of the ASIC miner batches

they are making are for GRIN coin and not siacoin. You add the other leg to the stool that is overbuilt that is the coin itself. Likely, IMHO, for the amount of work done.

The last leg of this 3 legged stool is the siacoin that is out in the world, much more difficult and much more coin than the siacoin storage network could justify even if it was up in full.

Lots of issues. Couple years behind Timeline. The emphasis on making equipment vs promoting the storage aspect of siacoin. Quite frankly, I'm surprised the coin is not 1/5th the

price it is currently. Not looking good IMHO. Not at all. They need to step it up so AT LEAST a hobbyist can make a sia-tech storage HD system out of used or new parts and play with

it and at LEAST make enough money for electricity in (you pay) for storage payments (to your) in (siacoin storage pays). Without that to move things along it looks like to me, full

stagnation for the storage option..the 'supposed' crown jewel of decentralized, everyone, anonymous cloud storage for everyone.

Naw, at the present time, I"m not buying the hype. They are going sideways on this project at best and likely backsliding big time without our full awareness.

my two siacoin of wisdom on this

Brad

I haven't checked out the network adoption statistics recently, do you still lose money on the renting out space aspect? Are they just not marketing towards growing the customer base? I thought it was weird when they went into ASICs and thought, that will really distract from their main goal of growing the number of people storing files on it.
184  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I GOT BURNT TODAY on: June 22, 2019, 09:43:14 PM
You are probably going to have some short term losses here, but if you hold for the long haul, you will come out ahead. My guess is that you will be back to your original value in a year and a half to two years.

186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the upcoming Bitcoin halving triggering the rise of Bitcoin? on: June 22, 2019, 07:37:37 PM
Not yet, the price will rise eventually due to the halving, but historically it has always been after the halving, and in the case of the last one, took over a year to happen. So we will see rockets eventially from that as well.
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 22, 2019, 07:25:08 PM
Are there any other competitors for sia at this point? I remember that there was one or two others, but cant remember their names.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Breaks $10K Barrier – Where is all the Pump Coming From? on: June 22, 2019, 04:00:58 PM
I have been calling for a price upswing following by a rather large crash into the 4k or 5k range.  I think this is our upward time, then we will crash before then testing and eventually breaking through the ATH after the next halving.

Whew, I thought you were trying to scam, but since you said you promise to payback in 45 days, I guess there isn't anything to worry about. Go ahead and post your address and we will get that funded right away.

Thanks for the sarcasm but it's absolutely fine as I know how my situation sounds. I still thank u for hearing me out n respond. Pls let me know if u have any suggestions for me still.
Good day brother.

My suggestion is to delete your post as you sound like a scammer. No one is stupid enough to give a cent to you, nor should they be. If you want to follow the rules of the lending sub and provide collateral that is one thing, but sob stories on brand new accounts are a dime a dozen.

193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is Tether.to/USDT? on: June 21, 2019, 01:55:14 AM
I dont think you can transfer money into tether anyway. Last time I checked it is still locked down for new users.
194  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-15] IRS turning its attention to recreational bitcoin investors on: June 21, 2019, 12:42:25 AM
Instead of this, wouldn't a better use of their resources and time better directed to investigating certain multibillion and transnational companies for their tax evasion behavior? But of course, they'd like to target everyday Joes instead, with extremely tough tax codes that are hard to understand for specific circumstances.

Those corporations aren't tax evading. They're tax avoiding. They have enough lawyers to know that whatever they pull stands up to scrutiny even if it's offensive. That's perfectly legal and the conditions to foster it are created by legislators in the first place. If it's unintentional then that reflects poorly on their thoroughness.
As simple as the bold, they have enough lawyers...it's just a PITA to deal with large corporations because even if they are wrong they can make it a long drawn out process where in the end it took more time/effort/money to go after them than the government receives for doing it...
IRS: We are auditing you
Them: Here are a few hundred thousand transactions have fun dealing with them
Lawyers: Here's more BS for you to look through

That's not entirely true. As someone who has handled audits for multi billion dollar companies there are instances where massive excel files are handed over, but that is only when requested as backup. None of these companies are avoiding taxes by making it too hard to audit them. When an audit happens, the IRS sends IDR's of exactly what they want and if you dont provide it in a format they find acceptable, they have no issues requesting more or for you to do the work to summarize it and will access tax based on what they can find if you dont comply.

196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage on: June 19, 2019, 11:16:06 PM
I am sad to see siacoin having so many problems. I always figured the developers getting into the ASIC space was going to hurt them.

I have some old siacoin mining equipment if anyone is interested that I really need to offload. Basically a server and 5, 24 slot bay drives, all filled with 2 TB hard drives each. Almost 250 TB of storage. Anyone interested?
197  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-15] IRS turning its attention to recreational bitcoin investors on: June 19, 2019, 11:12:36 PM
Ok, can I pay them from my collection of NBA basketball cards? There was no cash in the exchange, only cards. If they tax for example they tax me 10% for a trade, will they accept a 10% portion of the card?
It doesn't matter if there was no cash in the exchange, and it doesn't matter if you trade something for something of an exactly equal value. It doesn't even matter if you trade a pristine Exquisite Collection LeBron James card for a completely identical pristine Exquisite Collection LeBron James card. For the purposes of tax, you sold one for USD, realized a gain in USD on the sale, and then bought the other one for the exact same price in USD. You have to pay taxes in USD on your realized USD gains.

I reckon this is a government in desperation. It cannot do anything to the cryptospace except lockdown on users on exchanges that have KYC. What can the government do if you personally give me bitcoin for an altcoin?
I agree with you, I'm just stating the rules the IRS have issued. Any trade from crypto to crypto, even without touching fiat, is a taxable event if you are a US citizen.

To take it beyond that, the IRS has explicitly stated that really anything besides property cannot be exchanged tax free. There used to be a loop hole around what BBC was saying whereby it could possibly be deemed a like kind exchange (still needs to be reported which I am sure no one did so still against the law), but that was closed and explicitly stated as only applying to real estate.
198  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-06-15] IRS turning its attention to recreational bitcoin investors on: June 18, 2019, 03:35:13 AM
Is there interest in a licensed CPA to complete your tax returns that involve crypto? I have thought about this for awhile, but I am not sure if it is a service that people would be interested in or not? I also think there could be a market for just general advice or knowledge on how to handle different situations, basically paying a fee to have a CPA on call for any crypto tax questions.
199  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: $1300 Mining Rig with 7x Sapphire Nitro RX470 4GB Samsung VRAM, 163 MH/s on ETH on: June 17, 2019, 02:51:12 AM

- Black frame with 7 riser cards
- 5 fans
- Corsair M850, & XFX Pro 1250W
- MSi Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard
- network cable, 6'
- 1x 4GB sticks  DDr4
- Pentium CPU
- 7x Sapphire Nitro RX470 4GB Samsung VRAM 23.2 MH/s each

Might want to do some more research on what used 4GB 470's go for.

I can buy new 8 card  8gb each rigs from panda miner  for 1000 edit 1150

here is a link https://www.pandaminer.com/product/product_detail/46

and I did find the 470 8gb model from them for 1000
https://www.pandaminer.com/product/product_detail/47

So Asking  1300 is higher then most will pay.

as 7 cards vs 8 cards
4gb vs 8gb
old vs new

1000 vs 1300

maybe you get 600-800 for it.  Just trying  to point out pricing  not break balls.

We sometimes lose touch as to the worth of the gear.

Oh we absolutely do, especially when I have been out of the loop for months, but that's busy season as a CPA tax professional I suppose.

Anyway, we were thinking 150 per card, then 2 power supplies and the rest being a couple hundred.  Does that extra stuff not carry much value anymore?

Edit; what about shipping also? I used to have to pay a couple hundred for shipping on a panda miner, which should be factored into our calc as it wont cost that to ship our rig.

so 1000 new free shipping  gets new 8 gpus 470 8gb

and you asked 1300  old 7 gpus  470 4gb

So  if you match their price of 1000 and offer free shipping

I suppose you could argue it is fair as they may stick the buyer in the usa with the trump tax.  which moves that 1000 to 1276 from panda

so ⅞ x 1276 = 1116.5

so  they would be very close to you gear if you ask 1000  since they are new you are old
they still have  8gb vs your 4gb..

so  maybe  1000 with free shipping matches them at 1000 free shipping if and only if they charge you the trump tax.

So an arguably fair price on your end is 1000  not 1300

I appreciate the insight. Been out of the loop got awhile. Price lowered to $950.

Nice daily multi vitamin, unless your diet is poor in some other specific thing, that should be all you really have to take.
