Should those awaiting the maturity of a CD request reimbursement? Or should we only worry for the money held at Inputs.io?
I worry about it all.

Please pet Buddy for me. He looks like a nice puppy I just did, and told him it was from you! I was wondering... There is a certain amount of evidence ('Steve_bobs' anyone?) to suggest not every hack that obscured the disaster that was the takeover of Bitcoinica was legit. The Bitcoin Consultancy's refusal to call in the police would presumably indicate the police would find something Strateman didn't want them to find. Zhou's 'playing the forum like a fiddle' would indicate he already knew Intersango were not going to call the police. Plus Strateman hates Zhou, and with a passion. Strateman collects examples of Intersango vulnerabilities and fails to fix them, firehoses 511 bitcoins at random strangers and then there are lots of tiny forced transactions such as the guy who told me he had to smuggle his balance out 'one bitcoin at a time'. Some algo is being gamed, or obscured there. And then, there is no business model, <ahem>. I'm thinking the plan all along was to rob Bitcoinica, but Zhou got there first and maybe even caught someone in the act and did a deal with them. That all sounds a bit fanciful to me, but it does make sense of the little oddities here and there. It also opens up a brand new option for the Bitcoinica victims. All of them, not just the ones who can afford to sue, and at better than $11 per bitcoin. A criminal prosecution against Strateman for Grand Theft, with a request for asset forfeiture, then everyone has a 30 day window to put in claims in for the return of their actual bitcoins. Honestly though Strateman is probably your target number one now, it is probably best to consider all of the Intersango failure crew together as responsible. I wonder if there will be a Bitcoin hell for these sorts.

Dark Wallet just looks like a god damned browser plug-in. Something stand alone like Multibit or Electrum seem safer and aren't that onerus. Don't use web wallets.
Seriously - it always ends in tears.
blockchain.info? Could be hacked to serve malicious javascript. Seriously learn to run a local fucking wallet.

The only web wallet that's worth using is coin base.
After this I'm pretty sure the correct answer is use local wallets or be prepared to lose coins if you weren't prepared to lose them before.

Twentington is even more worried about coinchat after hearing about what happened with inputs.io.
Well, without Inputs.io I doubt the payment for chatting feature will make a return. I really hope the chat network itself returns though. If it didn't, I could totally see why not. Bitcoin is a pretty tiring experience. You are constantly fighting against hackers, scammers, even sleazes, so plenty people get to a point where they don't bother anymore. In addition to it not being very simple for Great Aunty Hilda to get to grips with, I think it's this that will ruin bitcoin. On freenode IRC /join #coinchat-exile I'm not sure how long I'll be awake, but I'll try to keep the channel open.

Ditto. I'd like to see it return even if free coins don't. I'm not worried. Am I the only one? Why would it not return? Whiskchat database was compromised, not CoinChat's. It might have been originally copied from cc but it's run very differently. Also, apparently those API things are right bastards, so I see this issue to lay with them and not TF or inputs personally. I wouldn't be enabling anything like that with a decent amount in the wallet to lose and I doubt anyone else did either. Wrong thing to do, I see now. It happens.

The hack was not an inside job. I find people who accuse that insulting. I understand that's not proof. There's little that I can do to prove that I'm not the hacker, through. what about coinlenders balance then? can we give you a bitcoin address and you send us our coins?
You lost your money, what don't you understand? Possibly. Also possible that some coinlender assets were in a separate wallet or that there are loans due to cover some of the coinlender deposits. Yep, but CL used Inputs as it's wallet. CL still has some assets and people did not lose all of their money. Send an address to support@inputs.iodid that, when to expect something? The coming days. The disturbing thing is people apparently still trust Linode.

Cute Dog.... What wallets do you recommend? I personally use Coinbase.com and that is because they are licensed and a regulated business in California good old USA. You can actually visit the office. I recommend a local wallet. Multibit and Electrum are decent for everyday handling of bitcoins. For large amounts of coin though an offline Armory wallet split between an air gapped machine and a networked watching machine is probably best. "For large amounts of coin though an offline Armory wallet split between an air gapped machine and a networked watching machine is probably best." --Could you list some examples? Well the subject of air gapping a machine has been covered before better than I can do it. The same has been done as well on Armory's own site for offline wallets. http://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/Basically you use a never connected to the internet machine to generate an armory wallet and then generate seeds for watching only wallets you can view on internet connected machines. While their guide recommends electronic media to pass things between the offline and online computer, I'd suggest using printers and scanners with decent OCR capabilities. There is even a daemon version of Armory suitable for web services in case you want every transaction to be manually approved, but the server needs to be aware of balances and allow deposits (This implies there would be a withdrawal delay, but for services dealing in large amounts of Bitcoin this might be comforting as every coin is stored cold). This is quite the hassle though which is why for everyday spending with amounts you aren't too afraid to lose Multibit or Electrum probably make more sense from a convenience standpoint. The battle is between convenience and security.

That's the look I have on my face. Apparently BTC prices have attracted scammers. It seems like every post I read there's someone (at least!) with their trust rating in the red...and its not even acknowledged. Maybe this thread gets moved to off-topic, but anyone else notice the same? Of course it attracted scammzorz.

|

Is it really that hard to implement? I've just had my account hacked, and now realize that this is a big issue, and that 2FA would really help out here.
* Atruk thinks straight up GPG authentication would be a better solution, but hey.

which undoubtedly show what songs they are listening to, lots of pictures and hi to every newbie on the board You'd be surprised about the different types of spam that those who scam and those who just want to get paid for spam make. Still spamming regardless, but they're usually not the same. I saw a 'what are you eating' thread I thought was quite bizarre. Plz stay out of mah kitch'n. Kthnx. Seriously though the offtopic board breeds a lot of posts. It worries me too. A huge part of surviving this forum though is identifying people to discount completely.

I'm leaning towards a single issue poster who can't be bothered to provide context.

So any word on when it is coming back online or is it down for good?
I still hope it returns. Then again I'd like it to return even if rewards don't.
