1841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 02, 2014, 05:46:31 PM
Checked how the coin was doing just now...

If anyone is on the dev team and still about, they really owe all investors an apology at this point. I feel bad for those who voted like crazy and spent their money on voting. Hopefully the coin still gets a bounce, but this is not the way things should have gone.

This coin is dead, just like dcm and crypt..

My advise, get out while you still can.

I got out a couple of days ago... right after I started asking questions here. I didn't like where things were headed.  It's not impossible for a price bump to occur still, just I have no idea where the floor is. So I wouldn't tell others to sell, but I wouldn't tell anyone to buy either.

Again, I just feel bad for those who voted like crazy. It shouldn't have turned out like this before it even got to MP.

1843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 02, 2014, 05:34:36 PM

What's the difference between Bittrex and Mintpal? About pump and dump, I saw a lot of post about the end of this coin if added to mintpal, but I don't understand why can't be pumped and dumped on bittrex but it can in MP. I think anyone can move some coins and do the same from any Exchange (but I may be missing something).

Yeah, it can, and does occur. I think people are afraid of MP because it's more visible and higher volume. And of course dumps occurs quite often with voted coins, so they are fearful it'll occur with naturally added ones.

Big exchanges tends to be an automatic pump too, so of course there is that natural dropoff back at some point. Coins don't move up forever in a straight line.
1844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 02, 2014, 05:31:59 PM
This coin will be going up and down a few hundred but with a consistent uptrend...this is guaranteed.

Then we will get ninja add by Mintpal and price will rise at least 50%....this is guaranteed.

Then after the "Mintpal Effect" value will drop anywhere between 30-40% within the first 24-36 hrs and that will be our new floor...this is guaranteed.

Don't know, but when it hits Mintpal the coin will be dumped. Watch all the coins on mintpal from where they started. Mintpal is not doing good for this coin. It will be pumped and immediately dumped Sad

It'll dump, but ideally to simply a new floor that is higher than it was previously. That's how most fast coin rises work IF the dev adds features to the coin. The coins that die on MP tend to be voted coins or coins that have absentee devs.
1845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][QBC] Québecoin - X11 - DGW - (BITTREX) - Win/Mac/Linux Wallets - New on: July 02, 2014, 05:27:57 PM
I think the best way to go is to find a dev, and offer payment in QBC or BTC (expect he/she would want btc), and fork the coin.

A community takeover is what is needed, and strangely there does seem to be a community, albeit a small one, supporting the coin still. I don't mean this in a negative way, just that when coins like this usually get abandoned, there aren't any original supporters so 'into' the coin anymore.

I half expected (or perhaps still suspect) that the dev's disappearance was simply a way to drive the price down, dev scoops up cheap coins, then dev returns, revives the dead-ish coin ... and those who got the cheapo coins profit. It's basically the same as a premine, just less evil-sounding. But since the dev still holds that giant premine as it is, I think it's more a case of the dev just running away with ipo funds, being happy with what he got, and hogging several cans of maple syrup for himself.
1846  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Exchange run icos/icds or whatever you want to call them (some would say scams) on: July 01, 2014, 11:20:39 PM

Apparently there is going to be a new ico run by bittrex (iceberg coin) and am curious if Bittrex has any rules whatsoever regarding their icos? Do they require a govt. issued ID for the dev? Will they consider changing their rules so it matches polo's new rules?

Unless they do, I see no reason at all for anyone to invest in any bittrex icos at all. So many ico coins have turned out to either be complete scams or simply terrible investments. The latter quite often being due to the devs not really using much of their ico funds on actual coin development. XBC, which could be looked up as the most successful of the icos, had a dev who basically ran away with practically all ico funds, then a second team had to take over. DCM had a team who made grand promises, then basically just closed up shop, collecting over 100 btc with apparently nothing really spent on the coin itself -- unless you count the 22btc they paid Bob in order to round up a team to pump the coin.

Why should anyone trust Bittrex or any new ICOs run there, unless they institute more stringent requirements? If someone from Bittrex reads this, I hope you at least consider some strict rules. And for those who has been cheated by a Bittrex run ICO, maybe send off a PM/email to Bittrex asking them to institute similar requirements that poloniex now does?

Devs shouldn't get any ico money at all until they use it for what they say they will. No giant lump sum payouts.
1847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ICB] IcebergCoin | FIRST NIST5 POW/POS | Join NOW! | Supported by BITTREX on: July 01, 2014, 10:52:24 PM
Not to rain on an ico parade, but has bittrex instituted any of the ico rules that poloniex has?

Meaning.... instead of this:
Quote
The ICO will only be released after Bittrex check that everything is working fine. If there is any problem they will return all the investments.

All the funds collected in the crowdfunding will be invested in hiring new full time developers, advertising campaigns, voting systems, business deals, etc.

They hold all funds UNTIL you use them for what you say you will. So you hire a developer, then bittrex gives you the funds and verifies their proper use. Advertising, deals, campaigns, same thing. You don't get anything at all meant for the coin until you actually use it.

So many ipo coins have cheated people, DCM being the most recent one. They made grand promises, and all investors were supposedly protected from 'catastrophic loss' via the ipo funds (their own words). You can see how well that worked out.
1848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 01, 2014, 07:04:52 PM

BTC Vol in Bittrex
188.83911671 BTC at these prices,

should soon see a price at least 10 000

I normally don't like to guess at prices, but 10K is around where I have it too. The question is will it hit 10K before or after betting/anon + MP. If before, 10K may simply be the bottom.
1849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 01, 2014, 06:44:29 PM
Maybe a strange question... but can XBC help create a community takeover in DCM?

+1000 agree

im agree, if XBC team helps create a community takeover in DCM..

example : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=664918.0

I threw out an idea to one of the devs, which was a very problematic and unlikely idea when thinking about it more, but it in theory could work. A DCM swap to a proportional amount of XBC could be considered fair to some.  Or at least a fairer alternative to current DCM holders.

But it relies on an extremely unlikely scenario ... one of the XBC devs who received DCM ipo money using it for the swap. It'd also require an exchange to swap, which would be an issue since DCM/XBC don't even share a common exchange.

Besides being unlikely to occur, it's probably meaningless. I mean, to be honest, XBC will probably need a takeover as well. It's like a sinking boat going to rescue someone stuck on a life raft.
1850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 01, 2014, 05:56:19 PM

It's easier to do it on smaller exchanges, but when it's done on big exchanges its ramification are far more severe and in most cases they mean the end of the coin.

True, but it's not like anyone can stop MP from adding it if they want to. I'm not keen on voted coins, as they tend to die ... but a lot of that is simply due to the fact that voted coins really died ages before their listing and nobody bothered to tell the investors -- they are sort of like zombie coins.

Basically comes down to the devs needing to add value to a coin before (or at least shortly thereafter) it reaches the big exchanges. If people have a reason to hold, even tons of manipulation won't necessarily destroy a coin.

As for Minerals, the way I look at it is ... e-sports betting is somewhat unique. Beats me if it'd catch on, or if it will provide longterm value to a coin. But it's something different. Anon is something useful (to some) and up until very recently, unique.

So long as Minerals can do something that other coins aren't doing, it has some value. I wouldn't claim insane valuations, but 10Kish... sure, why not? Seems very possible assuming dev simply does some of the things he is working on. Once volume gets high enough, MP + Cryptsy will come knocking regardless of voting.
1851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 01, 2014, 05:42:55 PM
Actually Coinler some sensible people who hold Minerals are against anon because it makes real world adoption more difficult.  At least think about it.  Also Mintpal is the centre of price suppression, market manipulation of all kinds, so instead of labelling people who actually support the coin as being against it, use your brain and ask why some people might not favour these things.

Optional anon is the way to go. If you don't like it, nobody has to use it then. Those that do want it, then have that option.

Price suppression + market manipulation occurs on all exchanges. I'd probably argue it's easier to achieve on smaller exchanges (especially if volume is low) than the bigger exchanges. But it occurs everywhere... can't be helped... just depends on how fat the whales are.
1852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MIN] Minerals - POS. Fair Distribution Cryptocurrency on: July 01, 2014, 05:05:33 PM
Let's show community strength and activity!!!

Keep voting!
https://www.mintpal.com/voting#MIN
Bad idea.

Let's show community strength by NOT voting it into mintpal.

Mintpal is where coins go to to die.

Cryptograveyard.

+1

indeed! +100000

+1

I wouldn't really worry that much about voting, although I guess as coins move up in rank it does help maintain prices somewhat. The way volume has been going, it may get their on its own, however.

MP is primarily just a graveyard for coins that rely on voting alone. Get there naturally, and it should be fine.
1853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: July 01, 2014, 03:13:33 PM

I did not say that you guys need to shut up, I just said it will be more fruitful if a proper thread should be made concerning this complaints. Yes I know they were in the DCM team. Have you tried directly sending PM to them? What is happening is, people who are angry about DCM Dev are now using this XBC thread to derail it. Please take not who are the Core DCM Dev team. Wallenstein and Seriouscoins are appointed assistant on this DCM, and at the moment they are on holiday ( that is the reason we are getting ) apart from them I do not know who will be able to answer all your queries here.

Thank you.

Although I do agree that people should start their own DCM thread, I think telling people not to post here about it may be somewhat fruitless. Like it or not, XBC was connected to DCM, in a manner of speaking. Earlier on I wondered aloud here why the price for XBC was sinking even though the coin was rising on MP. The simple answer is DCM + absent devs. That 'holiday' is the issue ... which of course lines up with the fact they each received 22 btc which did not really belong to them.

We could talk instead about XBC, but that conversation really isn't a whole lot better than DCM talk at the moment.
1854  Economy / Services / Re: [Coins Source] ** Signature Promotion ** Promote Something Postive on: June 30, 2014, 07:40:21 PM
PrimeDice is focused on generating revenue, Coins Source's revenue currently does not match that of PrimeDice, which we can't fully match their prices, but offer extra incentives for lower ranks.

As far as SourceCoin goes, rates will be adjusted per month, We will allow you the option to switch to SRCC or BTC (capped at 15) on a monthly basis, first come first serve for BTC.

As far as dumping goes, we can't do anything about that. But what i can say is that this way we can distribute out SRCC more evenly to promoters, in turn its a win-win situation. The better distribution, and more traffic/reputation we recieve for this service, the more we can offer for SRCC.

There a lot of positives for SRCC signature promotions, SourceCoin will be of high value in the future, do to our very base platform on which SRCC will eventually start taking advantage of.

Yeah, I wasn't sure you could even match Primedice if you wanted to, but perhaps down the road if your revenue does go up, it could be worth considering. Or extra benefits for higher ranks, such as payouts both in btc + srcc, or something like that. After member rank, it's actually more profitable for folks to use primedice really, so something extra, be it sourcecoin, or something related to the site, may be useful. Personally I like coinssource so will go with you guys (until I jump up higher in rank, anyway)... then I'd need to calculate things.

And in regard to sourcecoin/btc payouts, I meant at the end of the month, can btc people change their payout to get sourcecoin if they so choose when it's time to get paid? It's just a way to avoid a potential weird situation, where btc people may realize that if they chose sourcecoin instead at the beginning of the month, they theoretically could make more than the btc payout they are getting. It will of course vary based on sourcecoin's price, but it'd probably cost you less (in btc anyway) and just be a safeguard for those of us who chose btc.

The potential dumping thing was just an observation... if number of signups remain low-ish, it won't be a concern. Just thinking aloud if it became very popular. I expect eventually you'd run out of sourcecoin to give out too.
1855  Economy / Services / Re: [Coins Source] ** Signature Promotion ** Promote Something Postive on: June 30, 2014, 06:15:29 PM
So is it .0005 per post?

Yes, .0005btc per post

seems to low could  you rise it a bit

I think PrimeDice is the only one who pays more. If things do work out with the program, it may be a good idea to match PD rates if he can ... basically more for higher ranks.

One thing I noticed with the newer changes is it may be advantageous to take sourcecoin instead of btc. It does appear like the number of sourceoins per post could be of greater value that the btc given. For those of us signed up in the btc program, can we have an option at the end of the month to choose either btc or source? It may end up being a weird situation where those who use multiple sigs and have a lower rank end up getting more overall than the btc people will.

Although another issue may pop up if this program ever becomes popular ... basically the price would logically dump around the end of each month as people get their sourcecoins.
1856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HMY] HarmonyCoin|Official Launch|Live On Bittrex|X13|100% POS on: June 30, 2014, 06:08:44 PM

A few thoughts on altcoin adoption in general and Veribit in particular:
Veribit is sort of a band-aid to make up for lack of merchant adoption. It is a nice feature and makes a coin that has it more usefull, no doubt about it. But I am not convinced at all it makes a coin more valuable. It doesn't give anyone a reason to own the coin over Bitcoin. Why on earth sould I spend BTC to get HMY, just so that I can have it auto-exchanged back to BTC again if I want to buy something? Doesn't make much sense. There is a reason the VRC devs didn't introduce Veribit when VRC was trading at 700 satoshis, although they were certainly already working on it then.

Veribit is rather interesting, although I admit I haven't even followed VRC very closely. I always thought something like coinpayments or a central processor will be a requirement for most alts to ever get used as a mainstream currency, but of course volume comes into play then.

As for a reason to spend BTC to get HMY to get it autoexchanged back ... one reason could be POS. If the POS rate is greater than whatever fees are associated with the conversion, then it'd be worthwhile. But due to volatility in markets that would be a pretty big gamble. It could make sense on a coin with high volume, high POS rate and is very stable. Beats me what coin meets those requirements, however.
1857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LitecoinPlus (XLC) / super fast / green / great team! on: June 30, 2014, 05:52:49 PM
Although nothing wrong with trying to drive up interest via voting campaigns, I think you may be targeting exchanges that realistically you have little chance of getting on... at least anytime soon, that is. One problem with rare-ish coins is there simply isn't a lot of coin owners to begin with. It's not like there are hundreds of millions of coins out there.

You may be better off just throwing a btc at kingcoiny/austinglobal/atomic-trade/swisscex/etc. as a bounty and seeing if they'd take it. Again, basically just as a lifeboat in case bittrex drops the coin. And again, rebranding is what the coin really needs, in my opinion. XBC has that whole DCM fiasco hanging over its head, and now mostly absent devs (with 2 of the devs linked to DCM), so no idea what benefit there is to be linked to it at this point.
1858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]BitcoinPlus (XBC) / MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE / BIT-ADOPTION! on: June 30, 2014, 04:55:41 AM

DCM is a scam .... site off ....devs not login ... they took BTC and run away like most of new coins

Yep, I know. It's interesting (in a bad way) just at how most of the exchange run ipo coins have gone. Not unexpected, but disappointing. Polo's new IPO rules probably would have helped if they instituted them from the start. And if Bittrex ever runs an IPO again, they better put in similar rules too.
1859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My list of questions(with a small reward) on: June 29, 2014, 09:52:25 PM
Hi! long time lurker first time poster! I have a few questions that I have and it would be great for some insightful input! I can only give out 1 litecoin and one darkcoin. the two best posts will be awarded a litecoin or darkcoin!

I'm not very tech savvy so bear with me! Excuse my poor grammar as well -_-!

1) How do you deal with viruses/malware or any other bugs? I've recently been so paranoid of downloading anything, this includes wallets for new coins or mining software. Is there a sure way to know that im not downloading anything I should not be?
(super noob question, is it possible to get malware/virus just by visiting a website, or does a download and execution have to occur?)

5) How do you scout for newly announced posted coins? I couldnt find a way to order the threads from newest to oldest, only found it to order from the latest post in the thread. This is also where my paranoia comes in, downloading new wallets and mining software. How to I protect myself in that situation?

Thanks in advance!

What I use for most wallets is a virtual machine. And yeah, you can still get viruses there, but at least it's safe from your main data. Always do backups of wallets too, just in case the VM crashes or something. For cheapo coins, I just leave them on exchanges ... which of course isn't ideal, but it saves time from downloading a million wallets, and probably aren't worth a ton anyway even if the worst happens.

As for new coins, coinssource has a little section on it (link in my sig too). For what coins are popular, I like how bittrex set up their coin page, so you can easily see how volume ranks. It's a good was to see what is popular at the moment ... which isn't really of that much use, as ideally you'd buy or mine coins before they become popular. But at least it keeps you up to date somewhat.

Edit:

And yeah, you can get malware just by visiting some websites. I like to use this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antiexploit/

Are these upcoming delistings even announced on Bittrex anywhere? Not everyone checks this forum every week. I'm pretty sure I lost some coins ages ago that I forgot about, simply because I didn't even know it was getting delisted. Not a biggie, as it was close to worthless anyway... but still...
