1881  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Attempted scam by Mt.Gox? on: November 18, 2012, 02:16:49 AM
I would suspect OKPAY way before I would mt.gox.

Likewise.

You also need to remember that it's Sunday afternoon in Japan.  See if someone gets back to you tomorrow before you assume that they're ignoring you or have no intention of addressing your problem.

The support desk part of the MtGox website is down for maintenance at the moment so there's probably not a lot you can do until tomorrow.

Then how do we have dreams?

When we are dreaming, it is our perception of reality that has changed, not reality itself.

Same when we're high, develop certain neurological conditions or experience certain mental illnesses.  There are plenty of ways to alter consciousness - they're not all benign.

I wonder why you people still fall for investment bullshits when you know Bitcoin transactions are irreversable!

The same reason they fall for conventional scams.  Greed.  It doesn't help that there are plenty of people on here willing to argue that sustained high returns are somehow magically possible because...Bitcoin.  Nobody who wasn't a high risk borrower would be willing to pay insane interest to borrow in BTC when interest rates on conventional loans are low.  People wilfully overlook that reality time and time again.

Even those investment offers which aren't outright scams from day one are going to have a ridiculously high default rate because many of those already high risk borrowers are going to use the funds they borrow to invest in high risk ventures.

I learn what I learn within myself, not out.  You can label words as whatever you like, it doesn't change the meaning of them.

Great.  Now you're channelling Atlas.
1885  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why I used to trust Patrick Harnett on: November 17, 2012, 10:09:01 PM

For what it's worth, I believe Patrick wasn't an intentional scammer, just made some bad decisions in a bad situation ... but I don't really know.

That's kind of the problem though.  You need to be able to trust people to do the right thing under the worst case scenario.  Doing the right thing is easy when everything is going well and you're making money hand over fist.  Doing the right thing by others even when you've personally sustained major losses is a greater challenge for many people.
1886  Economy / Marketplace / Re: So you think you're going to start a Bitcoin business, right? on: November 17, 2012, 08:32:05 PM
I think there's around a dozen or so people in the bitcoin-community that want to run "beer factories", as someone put it.
The whole econosphere is much too small for multiple endeavors of that scale.

Most of the eco-universe surrounding bitcoin consists of micro-breweries with handwritten receipts.
As those breweries grow, they will necessarily have to adapt most procedures outlined.
Then they will be able to buy a factory. But that's years later.

One of the current problems in the Bitcoin world is businesses lacking the capacity to absorb rapid growth.  They simply don't have the resources to put in place the systems necessary to deal with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of other people's money because they started on a shoe-string without any high level infrastructure baked in and they haven't made significant profits a few months later when they're suddenly playing a whole different ball game.

Many Bitcoin businesses don't have the capacity to adapt to rapid expansion because their owners have neither the resources nor the skills necessary to implement the changes required to see the business through a vulnerable period.  It doesn't help that the businesses are often "brand new" in real world terms and so the owners are still emotionally attached to their idea and don't necessarily make rational decisions about how to fund expansion.  We have a plethora of business owners who've never consulted an accountant, security expert or a lawyer but who are responsible for tens of thousands of dollars worth of other people's money.  They think that they "can't afford it" because they aren't making significant profits from their new business, yet it should be a standard start-up cost not something people are going to get around to when they "can afford it" (many businesses will fail long before they reach that point).

People in general underestimate just how much work is involved in operating your own business.  Those who dream of opening their own business so they don't have to answer to anyone and can work part-time are in for a rude shock and extremely likely to fail.

One thing I consistently hear back from Bitcoin business owners I talk to off-board is that they grossly under-estimated the level of attempted fraud they would encounter.  It's something for which every Bitcoin business needs to be prepared before they even launch because many have no capacity to absorb losses in their early months of operation - losing even a few thousand dollars to fraud will be catastrophic.

We all have a choice to make the transition into heaven or to stay in a lower frequency dimension as our own (love resonates at a higher frequency). We all have a choice, all it takes is love.  Will you beat the game at the end of the year, or keep playing?

So which cult are you planning on joining dank?

Over/under on dank eventually joining an "all you need is love" cult and perishing in a mass suicide a la The People's Temple or Heaven's Gate.

"the one who successfully prepared sophisticated concept, mechanism and protocol of Bitcoin" -Pirateat40, who is a born scammer, made many scams before,
still, welcomed with RED carpet & given half million coins as GIFT.

There was nothing sophisticated about pirate's scam.

You basically have two choices: either you try to find a way to pay us back by selling assets (house, car etcetera) and using most of your wages to make good on the debt, or be forced to do this along the road because with the amount of money involved and and the fact that you actually do have something of value (assets and a job) it is profitable for us creditors to unite and start legal procedure to claim what is ours.

Actually, he needs to consult a lawyer about this.  Liquidating assets in the pre-bankruptcy period will have implications for his bankruptcy so it's not something he should do without advice from an insolvency practitioner.
1891  Other / Off-topic / Re: There's gonna be a tidal wave/tsunami on: November 17, 2012, 08:09:45 AM
Given that there's a tsunami somewhere pretty much every year, you'll have to do a little better than that.

Sooner or later the world's supervolcanoes will erupt again, but that doesn't make dreaming about such events precognition.

You would be foolish to assume that "stand your ground" laws will protect you from being killed for this type of money. If someone shows up on your doorstep of course you could shoot them before they get a chance to do anything. You are safe in your home (unless of course someone is willing to take a chance and bring more guns and more people than you have access to) but I am assuming you do leave your home sometimes.

You could die as a result of this investment scheme.

Not this shit again.   Roll Eyes

1896  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Building a Bitcoin ATM. Should I bother? on: November 17, 2012, 03:48:45 AM
I have been building a bitcoin automatic teller machine which consists of a computer, webcam/QRcode scanner, bill acceptor, touchscreen and receipt printer.  The idea of it is to allow anyone to purchase bitcoins with cash just by scanning their bitcoin address and depositing cash into the machine.  The machine then instantly sends bitcoins to the address at the current exchange rate plus some minus a fee of some sort.  Has anyone done this yet? Does anyone think that this is something people will use?

I will eventually post a video showing it in action once I fix a few more bugs in the user interface.

Where are you planning on locating your ATM that it will get enough traffic to justify the overheads of operating it?  How are you going to keep the machine secure from vandalism/theft?  How are you going to calculate your hot wallet needs so the machine isn't constantly going offline because your hot wallet has no more BTC - unlike a bank, you can't just go to another ATM. The idea has been proposed before and there are a number of obstacles which need to be considered in order to make it viable.

P.P.S But as was explained to you before, filing bankruptcy doesn't dissolve you from fraud.

This needs repeating.

If you were stupid enough to max out your personal credit to invest with pirate, that's your problem.  The fact that you personally lost money doesn't absolve you of responsibility for your misrepresentations to others.  You can't discharge debts incurred by fraud in bankruptcy.

The "but I lost more money than you guys" excuse from PPT operators is wearing very thin.  How much of your own money you lost is irrelevant.
1898  Economy / Lending / Re: Need to settle my PayPal account. BTCjam loan pending.. on: November 17, 2012, 03:22:46 AM
You haven't mentioned why your PayPal account went negative and I'm a little bit unclear about your comments regarding user 559. Have you loaned funds to user 559?

This is also concerning.

Quote
The paypal account is settled with the 70% funding .. the rest of which would be used for repayment.

It reads like if you get over 70% you're going to use the excess to make repayments on the loan - meaning you're going to repay lenders of the first 70% from funds placed with you by later lenders (which is a bit ponzi-ish).

You might want to clarify those points because the way it reads now it sounds pretty high risk (and debt consolidation loans tend to be high risk anyway without additional complicating factors).
1899  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GLBSE asset issuers feeling comfy? on: November 17, 2012, 01:32:50 AM
Now Nefario gives you an excuse to keep the coins in your own pocket...

Nefario helped you and you help Nefario ...

This feels like the pirate-scam all over again Sad

It was predicted from day 1 that some asset-issuers would use the shut-down of GLBSE to avoid their obligations to their asset-holders.  Nefario's actions have made that a certainty and he should be held personally liable for that.

I've taken the JLPT, I've written books about it.

Are you claiming that you passed it?  Ah what level?  What level of JLPT you're certified at is absolutely relevant to whether you're competent enough in the language to teach others.  Nobody should invest in your business or buy your products unless you're willing to provide evidence of your proficiency.  That you thought someone you presumed to be  merely above N4 level was competent to review teaching materials is laughable.
