No doubt the best alt is litecoin

Litecoin is first altcoin but not the best for sure

Which is the best altcoin then?

It's hard to tell which is best, bet just read specification and compare it, there some a lot more interesting ones with much greater grow potential

What do you define as 'interesting' and 'grow potential'. Majority of these coins are clones of one another and offer nothing new or interesting. Sure, you can jump in early on some and make a little bit, but not even the most popular alts have any decent marketing or ideas behind them.
18802  Economy / Economics / Re: Who are the early adopters of a currency? on: December 21, 2013, 12:00:04 PM
It isn't people who buy to sell it in the future. That's speculation. The early adopters of a currency are those who accept it for the goods and services they sell. How would one reward the true early adopters?

Surely 'early adopters' is self-explanatory. People who buy to sell in the future are both speculators and investors.
18803  Other / Meta / Re: Bug in post speed limit on: December 21, 2013, 11:50:50 AM
It's funny that the majority of the complaints are from tools with paid sigs.

Calling people tools is a bit harsh. The time limits don't bother me now as they're virtually non-existant, but they did as a newb when you lost posts you'd written out, so I can understand peoples' frustrations, especially when they're trying to get paid for their posts.

42 activity and 1400 posts... that sets off some red flags.
Hm, so he made 1.4k posts in ~2 fortnights...
Edit: Ah ha!

What's funny about getting paid 0.4 bitcoins for a few weeks worth of posting? And what do my stats and boards posted in have to do with anything?

Agree. More than 80% newbies are coming for DOGE.

Yeah, you're right. I think people are being directed to the Dogecoin thread in alt currencies for main development and help, so that’s why there's a lot of doge newbs just posting crap in there to try get out of newbie jail.

Every time I see that poorly written English I lose the will to live Sad.

it's the new Wazzup and I'm already bored of it.

Haha, that takes me back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPCk262Nuqk
Report any and all DOGE posts in the newb section - they should not be there.

I'd be there all day reporting them.
Actually, most of them are gone off the front page now.

If you look in the introductory topics newbs make you'll find a lot more.

OP is not updating this thread for a while... Time for a community driven update?

PM the OP. He's online now.
18806  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin value on: December 21, 2013, 11:23:18 AM
If there's no bad news it will go up. BTC is always increasing in value. You may see it go down but the average price is still rising.

Yeah, and just wait for all the good news when more and more merchants start accepting it. All we need is one big retailer to start accepting it and the value will skyrocket. I don't sweat the price fluctuations as I'm holding for the future anyway.

6$ is still 6$, whether its in USD or BTC. so even if you spend some there is no reason why you cant top up your balance every so often while still enjoying the rising value.

Not if the value drops. I suppose they could use a payment processor that converts the BTC into cash straight away, but I'd rather hold on to the BTC for a bit in case the price rises, but obviously this is risky and difficult for businesses.

18811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if Satoshi is dead at this moment? on: December 21, 2013, 11:06:35 AM
that means we will never get to know him.

Maybe it's best nobody does. And maybe it's best most of his coins remain unspent.
18812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An idea I had while washing clothes. on: December 21, 2013, 10:59:30 AM
They also break into the machines. Thats what junkies do.

If there is no actual cash on site and the bitcoins arent even stored there its less temptation for physical theft.

Don't the staff have plenty of change? The launderette my mate goes to he just asks the owner and they just swap him the money for change.
18813  Other / Meta / Re: petition to rename bitcointalk dogecointalk on: December 21, 2013, 10:55:45 AM
Just ignore the altcrypto board.

The newb section is the worst.

Every time I see that poorly written English I lose the will to live Sad.

I hate the type of people who just regurgitate the same cliche shit without adding anything of their own to the meme. It's the behaviour of absolute morons.
18814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock.com accepting bitcoin on: December 21, 2013, 10:44:31 AM
Interesting to see how this plays out. Hopefully it'll go well and more retailers will take note. If it goes bad it could be disastrous though. I've never heard of Overstock, so I have no idea how big it is, but any merchant taking Bitcoin is good on the whole.
18815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On a scale of 1-10, how important is Bitcoin in your life? *poll* on: December 21, 2013, 10:42:04 AM
I'd say 6 at the moment. It's a big part, but hasn't taken over my life. Maybe it will in the future though.

It is all important because I'm hodling.

What's hodling?
18816  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Recent Yemeni Drone Strike on Wedding Party of 15 is not CIA's Fault on: December 21, 2013, 10:36:23 AM
I fully agree man, the drones are one of the most terrorizing and cowardly innovations ever released on mankind.

And all because they just don't want to risk losing their own precious soldiers live's, but don't mind wasting the lives of civilians in the process.
18817  Other / Off-topic / Re: Several Silk Road moderators arrested by FBI on: December 21, 2013, 10:33:30 AM
I was never a member of Silk Road myself, but wouldn't members (and especially mods) want to stay away from any iteration of the official Silk Road? Wouldn't they want to jump ship and participate on a or many new sites that were built as competitors (and I guess replacements) to Silk Road?

Why? Silk Road has the rep... it's essentially a brand now. Plus, it takes a lot of time for people to trust these other markets that spring up. People were even paranoid about the new SR being a honeypot, but I'd probably have more trust in a new incarnation of SR than a brand new site coming out of nowhere.
18818  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Former CIA chief: Snowden should be “hanged by the neck until dead” on: December 21, 2013, 10:21:37 AM
First lets do these:

1. Hang the Clintons (both Hillary and Bill) for bombing to death thousands of Serbian children, and then lying about it.

2. Hang George Bush for causing the death of 1 million Iraqis.

3. Hang Obama for bullying every nation in the world, other than the US.

Non of those are treason against the US.

No, but they're all war criminals and committed crimes against humanity. I wonder at what point will the UN will step in?
18819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to know if your a true believer - on: December 21, 2013, 10:19:30 AM
If you are a true believer you wouldn't care about the price since you use it as a currency not an investment.

We have to care about the price. If it went back to $1, all the investment would stop, there would be no bitcoin ATM machines, no hardware wallets  developed, no incentive for people to develop new services. It would be the end of bitcoin.

I don't think it going back down to $1 would be the end at all. A lot of people would've lost money for sure, but it can and still will be used as a currency and people will still be developing things for and around it. I'm sure it'd rise back up as people bought in anyway. Maybe a lower steady number would be better in the long run for the currency.
18820  Other / Off-topic / Re: Finished watching Breaking Bad?? What next? Any suggestion? on: December 21, 2013, 10:09:02 AM
Luther, a british crime series, Very good acting (same actor played in the wire).

Luther is great, although the last season wasn't as good. I wish Alice was in it more.

Yeah, Alice is great. I heard she was a getting her own spin-off series and a Luther movie is also planned.
