17901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Australia choses BITCOIN as word of the year for 2013 on: January 03, 2014, 04:40:20 PM
I have been hearing a lot of positive news from Australia, which is related to Bitcoin recently. Will be extremely happy if the Reserve Bank of Australia takes steps to regulate Bitcoin.

Excuse me if I'm being ignorant, but isn't Bitcoin supposed to evade government and banking regulations anyway? Wasn't that Satoshi's original vision, as stated in several quotes from him? Why seek approval from the banksters and their lackeys, when Saotoshi himself apparently saw them as enemies -- and supposedly designed Bitcoin as a way to undermine their incredibly unfair and inefficient system?

Here's a famous Satoshi quote:

Quote
"Yes, [we will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography,] but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years. Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own."

It seems to me that Satoshi's vision, as stated by him/her/them, was for BTC to effectively undermine the current monetary/banking system. But I'm a newbie, so I could be totally wrong.

However: I do, of course, understand that government regulations will affect price negatively and greatly hurt widespread adoption in the short term.

It's not the banks that will do the regulating but the government. Regulation is naturally going to happen whether we like it or not.

That's mtgox. You'll just have to wait it out I'm afraid.
17903  Other / Off-topic / Re: Stop buying cigarettes and invest each pack in BTC Enroll in the program ! on: January 03, 2014, 04:24:57 PM
I think both smokers and non-smokers and brutally aware of that. Prices of cigarettes over here are nuts. Cannot fathom why people pay for that crap.

Lol... that's why people are buying it illegally, using Bitcoin. The seller at Bitmit was from Moldova and he was selling cigarettes at cheap rates.

I can't imagine how you'd save much buying cartons this way. Especially risky if you get hit with customs charges which would then defeat the purpose.
17904  Other / Off-topic / Re: Once BTC is $10,000 each, what car will you get if you HAD to choose? on: January 03, 2014, 04:22:12 PM
I would buy a nice bicycle. Much cheaper to run and good exercise. With the money saved I'd go travelling.
I also not interested in cars love to have a good bicycle which give me more comfortable and exercise for long life Grin

Well, until someone nicks it  Grin.

I walk and cycle most places. I save shitloads.

Thanks for your answer.
I'm not sure I follow you completely about bitpay.
Quote
Use bitpay. It converts straight to fiat and there's no need for an escrow. I don't see why anyone would pay more than it's worth in BTC. Usually people give discounts.
I wouldn't mind not using an escrow, but I assume someone paying 700BTC would want it. Does bitpay somehow escrows the coins?

Bitpay is just a payment processor. I don't see why you would need escrow if you're doing the deal in person or through lawyers. They send you the funds via bitpay, then you sign the deeds over. Bitapay deposits the cash in your bank.

I'd save onto some if not all of those Bitcoins if you can afford to. I'm sure they'll be worth a hell of a lot more later in the year.

What are you so aggressive? Let's run one game, and you will see how it works and that it is not a scam.

Because we don't like scammers. And how long is one 'game' going to last?

Depends on frequency and size of the transactions. The sooner reached a critical bet, the faster transactions will cease.

So one 'game' could go on all year.

Ha, that's what he hopes.

I was curious after I saw this thread so I went in to see if I was able to change (set, since I never bothered to add one) an avatar:

Quote from: bitcointalk settings page
Changing avatars is currently not possible.

is this a result of the thread?

or was this done weeks or months ago and I just never noticed?

It was done months ago and you never noticed  Cheesy.

Yes, that's correct. Messages and searches also count.
17909  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: UK based - where would you sell your BTC? on: January 03, 2014, 03:27:57 PM
bitbargain is OK but you have to take some seller tests which they take some BTC for

What tests and why do they charge you?
17910  Economy / Gambling / Re: LastWinsAll.com - Experimental game with simple rules on: January 03, 2014, 03:22:06 PM
Hmm mmm but you need some sort of time limit or people will think it's a scam, with no end in sight.  Maybe a range or somethin

Why would OP put a time limit on when he can just keep it going for as long as he can?

Alright, so I guess that when I get 4 activity I can post in the marketplace?

Just delay in delivery?  I'm not sure I've seen that before.  Maybe there are weather issues?

Or maybe it's the NSA.
17915  Economy / Gambling / Re: LastWinsAll.com - Experimental game with simple rules on: January 03, 2014, 02:40:49 PM
Wait, couldn't you look at blockchain.info and see how much has been put in, and then just put in more to win?  but then people could keep doing that to give oyu more and more, and then you'll run away.

You need to set a drop dead time/date.

There is a time/date: 24 hours after the last bet.
17916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Australia choses BITCOIN as word of the year for 2013 on: January 03, 2014, 02:40:08 PM
Better than ours which I believe was 'selfie'. Although Bitcoin was nominated. Hopefully Bitcoin will be the word of 2014.
17917  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions regarding selling real estate for Bitcoins on: January 03, 2014, 02:29:42 PM
Hi,

Being a newbie (here) I'll just post my Q here for now.
I have a property I'm currently putting in the market for just above $500,000. (official ask is $525K). It's a beautiful beachfront house in Nicaragua, inside a well established community, right by some of the most amazing surfing beaches in the world. The house is renting throughout the year, and Nicaraguan laws making international investment and ownership very easy. (Think Costa Rica about 15 years ago)

I'm thinking about offering it for bitcoins. My questions:
1) I'll obviously be willing to use an Escrow service, and willing to pay commision. I fully own the deed to the house and can  wait until the deed is transferred. Are there any bitcoin Escrows that are specializing in Real Estate?
2) I would like to convert most of the coins back to fiat. Considering the amount and volatility, what's the best way to do it quickly? I don't want to stay "long naked" bitcoin for days.
3) As alternative to #2: What's the best way to hedge a bitcoin? Are there any reliable tradable futures / options?
4) Can I reasonably expect/ask for a higher $ value because of the risk? Or simply because I'm aiding someone transferring his bitcoin wealth to Real Estate wealth?
5) Any other things I should be aware of?

Thanks for any input!

Use bitpay. It converts straight to fiat and there's no need for an escrow. I don't see why anyone would pay more than it's worth in BTC. Usually people give discounts.

It may be as well that while you seem trustworthy you may have products that are too expensive for people to risk it, I've had products up for sale quite awhile now myself but I think there are some people that must be getting scared off by it because they don't want to place an order and then have nothing show up a week later. It'd be a good idea to give us an idea of the pricing because I'm currently working on some digital products now that will be a lot cheaper than my physical stuff so they should be more willing to part with their money, after that, it's all just a matter of quality and whether people are interested in the product or not.

Nah it's cool..

I am selling spotify premium 1 month codes

Usually sell them for 6-7 USD so I don't think that'd be a huge problem?

You should be ok. Not sure if there'll be a huge demand for em though. How much do premium accounts go for?

Theese are not accounts

they are codes you apply to your own account.

So far, I've sold over 500 of theese on different sites and forums

Accounts / codes; same jiff.
17919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] [RAP] RapCoin - dance to this and you're gonna get thinner on: January 03, 2014, 02:02:18 PM
I can see this coin is going from bad to worse Cheesy

A coin went from a serious sexual assault to rap music and that was worse?

it was never meant to be serious hilariousandco.

I never said it was.
