Good luck finding bitcoins at 15€ when their price is 17.4...
1922  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which mining pool and why? on: February 10, 2013, 03:35:20 PM
No one advocating Deepbit? I admit I haven't done much research for choosing pool, but why not Deepbit?
Because it has high fees. Avoid deepbit.
Just wondering, besides all the other factors (such as payout types), would it not be more advisable to join the pool with the largest collective hash rate?
No. Why?
1923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next Thursday I will have 20 minutes to present bitcoin to 150 businessmen/women on: February 10, 2013, 12:09:39 AM
Tons of nice suggestions.

I'll add mine: if they want to try bitcoin do not tell them to use the qt client. Otherwise they will have to face a software wich takes 3 days to download almost 6GB of stuff with a fail interface. Give the Multibit, or electrum or blockchain.info
1924  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 36 hours and my wallet is not syncronized yet. i still have 8% on: February 09, 2013, 11:56:09 PM
i tried for hours and hours and it just seems to take forever to get up to speed, thank god you don't have to do this every time
Or use multibit.

Because it would be wasted transistors for 99.99% of users, wich would only slow down the card
1926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Foundation on: February 08, 2013, 06:18:48 PM
The forum is separated from the website because otherwise it would look like this is "the official bitcoin forum"  Wink

because I could not bear watch them go into debt from your stupidity
He didn't took anyone's money, how is that possible?
That's an interesting question. Wich is why i do not consider him a scammer.
1928  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which crypto-currency grows the most in future?Besides BTC of course! on: February 08, 2013, 04:31:19 PM
I think mintchip has a chance. But there is no real competition at the moment.
But mintchip isn't a cryptocurrency, it is just a canada digital fiat
1929  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-06 Resilience.org - The Joule Standard on: February 08, 2013, 04:21:17 PM
It is a centralized thing, and it requires trust. You must trust that the "joule dollar" you have is really backed by a joule. The instant the "private firm" disappear, you are left with a piece of paper, worthless.

Bitcoin is totally different, it is meaningless to compare bitcoin with this "joule dollar". When you own 1 bitcoin, you own it, you don't have to trust anyone, it is like having a ingot of gold, it is your.

This thread is science fiction
1931  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anonymous pwns Fed. Res. and Fedwire? on: February 08, 2013, 03:28:49 PM
Nah, the dollar has been hacked, everyone, sell sell sell, it is not safe!!!

(it is like how the press keep saying that bitcoin was hacked when in real it was only an exchange getting hacked  Cheesy)
1932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I could not answer this BTC security question on: February 08, 2013, 03:22:18 PM
To start there is no "BTC account". So "hacking" the wallet is meaningless, there are just private keys, you already know them, since they are your keys.

What stop him to send more transactions with this coin? Oh, nothing. He can send that coin to other addresses. But if you wait for at least 1 confirmation, then ONLY ONE of these transactions will be confirmed. The others will be happily rejected.
So, he send you a coin and instantly make another transaction to send that coin to another address. The net receive the transactions and accept only the first one. A miner will find a block and confirm the transactions by putting them in the block, he will of course put only 1 transaction in the block. So, the instant 1 confirmation happen, you can be sure if you received the coin (and then it is your forever) or not.

1935  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-06 NPR Virginia Proposes Alternate Currency on: February 08, 2013, 02:19:58 PM

or even just to see that the btc is there
Nonono. You can see how many btc there are by using the PUBLIC address!

Yes, there is a command to have the qt client tell you the keys, but i don't know it.

As for ubuntu, i don't know. Probably not

so the fact that it's hard to exchange BTC for fiat... doesn't that hamper BTC's usefulness?
Converting btc with fiat is hard, that's true and is exactly why we need BTC, because it will finally allow us to buy something in an easy way. If buying or selling BTC was easy, then well, we would not even need it!
1938  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recipient;s BTC Balance still shows 0.00 BTC even after 20 Confirmations [qt] on: February 07, 2013, 10:18:01 PM
With qt client you have to download all the blocks, or, at least, get to the block where the transaction happened (wich means, today)

To check the transaction on blockchain.info you can just put the public address, no need to use the private key.

Of course you will have to get the private key in the blockchain.info wallet if you want to use it to move the coins right now.
1939  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Which bitcoin client do you use? on: February 07, 2013, 10:08:22 PM
And does this poll do anything positive for those who have yet to choose a bitcoin client? Would a solid majority vote be a reliable endorsement for that particular client?
No. Especially when in this subforum most people know only the qt client.
