1941  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay sells stolen Amazon gift cards? on: February 04, 2021, 05:37:44 PM
It doesn't really work like that.

If it is against their rules, why Amazon allows their partners to sell gift cards to companies knowing it will be sold then? I repeat it's not an issue with Bitpay.
The companies do not buy the gift cards, they use an API. Even some neobanks and assurances (yes) sell gift cards. There are also thousands of rewarding sites using Amazon vouchers to reward their members.

I could also give the example of someone who posted here some months ago with the exact same problem after purchasing a gift card from Bitrefill.
Even Bitrefill warns people on its website with a message saying something like "Avoid using a gift card with an account without a debit card added or a brand new account".

If you google you will find so many stories with people suspended after using a voucher or a VCC on Amazon
1942  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal cryptocurrency trading volume beyond expectations on: February 04, 2021, 04:01:08 PM
Don't get it wrong guys, but Paypal doesn't really care about Bitcoin. The only thing that matters is the profit it can bring to the company. They just noticed Bitcoin could be a good cash cow and there is a ton of money to make out of it.

I didn't read the whole PDF but there is a need to make things separate. What comes from the addition of Bitcoin and what comes from the other part. Do you think the percentage increase is only due to the addition of Bitcoin? Not at all.
Even the free cash flow decreased starting at Q2 2020, the same for the number of active accounts but not the number of payment transactions.

What does it mean? It means there is the same number of people using Paypal but they are using it more frequently. Hence the profits' increase.
But why?
Because online shopping has increased drastically in the last year with covid and as Paypal is the most popular payment method people use, it makes sense.
Amazon has also doubled its profits but they have not added Bitcoin.

This only means to me that there's a great demand for decentralized transactions

For your information, there is no decentralization in Payal. People are simply buying a token backed by BTC, they don't own BTC, Paypal does

You never used a forum?
It's a personal space in which you can include a link, a quotation, a message, or anything you want
(Profile -> Forum Profile Information)

You can use it to say something about you, your favorite quote, your blog link, underwear size. Many things to think about.

Anyway, since you're a newbie you can not use the feature I think unless you pay for the 'copper' membership.
Or you're limited if it's still up to date
Perhaps the allowed signature styling should change with activity score / membergroup. Like:
- Newbie: No styling (including links) allowed. Max 40 characters.
- Jr. Member: Links allowed. Max 100 characters.
- Member: Unlimited length.
- Full: Color allowed.
- Sr. Member: Size allowed
- Hero: Background color allowed

Then newbies will be less effective advertisers, which would hopefully significantly reduce the incentive for low-content posts. And when people become capable of effectively advertising through their signatures, they'll have invested a lot of time into their accounts, and they won't risk being banned by spamming.

1946  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitpay sells stolen Amazon gift cards? on: February 04, 2021, 12:50:36 PM
It's not a problem with the company selling you a stolen gift card. It's a problem that occurs often with Amazon when you try to buy something with a high value and pay it with a voucher code. It's something well know.

To be honest, Bitpay won't be able to help you much since they use a 3rd party and have no control over Amazon and no contact with it.
At best, they may refund the GC but I doubt it will happen since from their side it has been sold correctly without incident (the use is something else)

With this kind of problem, it's a nightmare to deal with Amazon to resolve such an issue. It had taken me a year and a half by acting with the role of an imbecile
1947  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2021 List Bitcoin Mixers Bitcoin Tumblers Websites on: February 04, 2021, 12:33:03 PM
Its been 10 hours so far and i have not received anything yet from [banned mixer]

I will update this post tomorrow night with an update. I already contacted their support.

i have that PGP guarantee letter saved and screenshots backed up in case anyone tries saying anything because im a new poster...  But i have contacted their support and its only been 10 hours(they claim 1-6 hours mixing time) so i will update you guys tomorrow night....

It's ~48h now, so what's new? Your second post seems that you had a problem with Wasabi wallet which you used to use the mixer

I updated the original post because many mixers reduced the network fees. Bitcloak for example reduced it by 80%, to 0.0002BTC
(the average noticed is 50%)

Glad you're happy. lol
1948  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-02-02 Forbes - Bitcoin Is Not Money—Yet on: February 03, 2021, 09:09:10 PM
LeGaulois nice breakdown analysis. My only critic goes in one direction: bitcoin is up and running since more than ten years, its ecosystem is quite new but you cannot say that it is just at the beginning.
As others said, bitcoin can be money to me if I see it that way. I have used it quite a lot in the past to consider it money. Today, I am 99% holding and spending less than 1% and I try always to re-buy whatever I spend as soon as possible.

A decade is nothing, trust me Bitcoin is still a baby.

When we will be able to receive our salary in BTC, pay our bills, groceries, taxes, and live the same way that we do with our local currency it will be totally different. Currently, we don't have many solutions. Either you convert BTC to fiat, buy a voucher, a BTC debit card, or similar solutions.
What I truly want is to use Bitcoin without this. When I'm at the supermarket and want to pay I want the cashier to tell me "sir, it's a total of 0.005BTC" "Ok, give me your address"

Most of the time when we are paying a merchant with Bitcoin we're using a 3rd party. It shouldn't be that way, Bitcoin has never been designed to work like this. In another word, we need to use an alternative solution to use an alternative currency.

I prefer to see BTC at $10 and accepted worldwide and everywhere than BTC @$30k and struggling to use it.

Even in terms of development, there is still a lot to do but it can't be done in 10 years. As the adage says "Rome wasn't built in a day"

1950  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-02-02 Forbes - Bitcoin Is Not Money—Yet on: February 03, 2021, 05:12:29 PM
Well, the author is right in some way. Notice he doesn't say, it will never be an alternative, he says "yet", but let's take a couple of his argments

Quote
But that doesn’t make Bitcoin an alternative to the dollar yet.

That's a reality despite the fact for example some countries start to use to avoid the US politic and/or for INTL. trades

Quote
People are rushing in because of a lack of faith in government currencies

And it's true, a good example we could mention is about Venezuela. Is the fact that central banks are having fun printing money going to speed things up? I don't know, probably in fact.

Quote
Whatever Bitcoin is, it’s not money. We use money to buy products and services

We can't deny the fact that it's very hard to use BTC the same way we spend fiat (paying bills, supermarket,...) But at the same time the ecosystem is just at the beginning.

Quote
Contracts are essential to an economy, whether for buying a house with a mortgage, leasing a car, purchasing insurance or countless other activities. Who in his right mind would sign a long-term contract based on Bitcoin? Had you taken out a mortgage in March 2020 for $250,000 in Bitcoin, you’d owe the bank almost $2 million today.

Would you do it? Personally nope

Quote
The supply of money must be able to expand in order to meet the needs of a growing economy.

And until today this is what has allowed our society to evolve economically. Let's take the example of banks. Without them, we wouldn't have been able to create businesses, (since they are the ones who finance), markets, wouldn't be able to create jobs, and all that.

So, yes, he might say "Bitcoin is not money YET" but in a near future, it will. Not totally replacing USD of course but at least an alternative.

https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/

Click on "#Markets" to filter according to the number of available pairs and choose one good enough for your needs.
Well if I compare Binance has 1042 trading pairs. HiBTC has over 920, which's close to Binance and perhaps enough for your use. Do you really need so many?

As for the VPN with Binance. Perhaps the person has never got a problem using a VPN it doesn't you will never face any issue. Their system could change and consider a person using a VPN connection trying to bypass their ToS.

Let's say there is a limit of 2 BTC per day when you want to withdraw. You could create 10 accounts and be able to get a 20 BTC limit and avoid verifying your account.
Binance has to protect its system and seeing you using a VPN could be considered as someone trying to cheat.

After thinking about it, if the 2 BTC per day limit is enough for you then you don't even need to use a VPN

Salut @Ronemo

In addition to the activity points, merit points (click for more information) are required to advance your ranking. You will need at least 1 merit point before you can be a Jr. Member (click for more information)

And if you're thinking to ask how to get merit points I suggest you use the search bar because it has been asked a thousand of time.

1957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin CASH regulated in any way? on: February 02, 2021, 06:17:39 PM
It depends on your country's tax system, it's not something universal and can be different than ours.

But I can tell you that in my country we're also taxed on the forks. These bastards are robbing every penny they can.
The value of the fork represents a capital gain, you're so taxed on this, like any capital gain. Let's say you got $10,000 from a fork you're taxed 30% ($3,000).

That's unfair to me, capital gains mean an investment has been done earlier and it's not really the case with a fork.
Soon if you find a banknote on the street you will have to pay a tax too

1958  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Decentralized blockchain version of “Google maps timeline feature” on: February 02, 2021, 05:31:28 PM
It can't be anonymous if the decision-makers can access data. Transparent maybe but it sucks in privacy terms.

Too easy to know your address, where do you work, what do you do on the weekend, when do you leave the house to go to work, your favorite supermarket, etc...
And of course, easy to get your name/last name.

All the information needed to build a profile...

Open source doesn't mean decentralization and to be honest I don't see how a blockchain can be useful. People want to "blockchainize" everything while a secure database could be enough
1959  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Most popular crypto card? on: February 02, 2021, 12:52:57 PM
Wirex is the most popular for persons living in Europe for its convenience and the fact that it is one of the oldest. At a time we didn't have much alternatives. Then follow Bitwala and Coinbase.
Since the Binance card is available it will surely change since it has already a huge member base

Nowadays people are looking for a card that also has a cashback feature and there isn't a lot of having it. Binance, Wirex, and 2-3 others. The drawback with Binance is you need to hold a certain amount of coins (edit: only if you want to get a higher cashback rate as corrected NeuroticFish below)

As for the other areas of the world, no idea. It's just based on my experience talking with EU people using a card
