1961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has NOT forked, calm down and don't spread misinformation on: August 16, 2015, 10:31:42 PM

Rising fees is crucial to the future of sustainability of Bitcoin, it will be the only earnings miners get for running and securing the network. Without transaction fees Bitcoin would become weak enough to destroy.

It should be the contrary, if the fee will raise the people will move on and search another thing. For a real 'sustainability" (not really the correct word) the fee should rest low  and the value (usd) grow.
You don't have much faith in the power of Bitcoin then. I know plenty of people that would pay 20-30% fees on thousands of dollars for the privilege of using Bitcoin. The anonymity, security, efficiency, and speed makes it incredibly valuable.

I know I lot of people will stop use bitcoin if the fee 'would raise' due sum circumstances, they will simple search another way to transfer value. I think you know than bitcoin is not even the unique cryptocurrency in the circulation and it is obvious that in the next 'years' it will be more & more...

more competition  = better service  (with lowest fee).

And this hacker use this email only to debate with developers for the block size of bitcoin Tongue  Huh come on guys this has no logic... I think all this years satoshi was never leave this community and he is still here with his alt account.

A properly signed message , why not? It's simple...

1965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain wallet - "used" and "unused" adress on: August 16, 2015, 08:28:01 PM
Please listen to me and do not create a brainwallet. You will end up getting robbed.
I want to be sure to understand :
I have calculated that my passphrase has an real entropy far beyond 160 (12*log2(15000)=166, not to mention my 12 extra personnal words for which entropy is obviously more difficult to evaluate),
then, why concretely would my private key be less secure than a common private key held with a software like Electrum ?
can anybody confirm :
is a unused brainwallet with a passphrase of 160 bits of entropy,
as secure as a common private key held with a software like Electrum for example ?

A bitcoin address has 160 bits of entropy. If your key has more than 160 bits of entropy and it is stored only in your head, then you are maximally protected against everything but coercion and memory loss.

is it possible to be attacked when moving out of cold storage if the wallet implementation is weak?  this doesn't have to do with brain wallets per se, but assuming you'll eventually move the coins, you have to choose a method.
In case I would have to move the coins from a brainwallet, I would use Electrum sweeping private key option.

Electrum is a nice software for moving coins and short term storage, isn't it ?

Yes, I would personally suggest you electrum. It is very good and light wallet.

I don't know if it was already posted, but this is the maaku7 opinion :

Quote
Bitcoin is already centralized. Do you realize that a cabal of a half-dozen people (I'm not talking about the developers) have the power, even if they have yet to exercise it, to arbitrarily control bitcoin? That this power also rests with anyone who controls the networks used by this cabal, which is presently confined to a small number of datacenters? That if they were in the US all it would take is a couple of national security letters for full control over the bitcoin network? I assure you the Chinese government has much stronger strings to pull.

Ahahaha, it's a crucial time for everyone.
Every day is crucial for bitcoin during last 6 years. Nothing really new here.

*fix for you (speculation side)  only after 2013 :

so not in the last 6 years....

Conclusion: the block size has to be increased and XT has to be stopped.

Is this your personal opinion?

1971  Other / Meta / Re: This users trust rating has links to a virus on: August 16, 2015, 06:30:59 PM
It would be a good idea if you were to include a virus scan reference to prove the link contains malware.

here is a virus scan of the reference link (www.hurr-durr [dot]com) <<- Danger malware he is posting in the trust reports he is sending.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=540501

All of the 'reference' links to a web page virus (sorry, not a tech person)

Quoted as reference.
1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts regarding "satoshis" post today on the mailing list? on: August 16, 2015, 06:15:11 PM
account was hacked and mail was without his PNG key.

Hoax.
I wonder what are the chances that his PNG key got hacked as well somehow, and stolen. IT would be terrible. Imagine if someone was in control of the key (btw isn't it PGP and not PNG?)

Yes, it is PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) key and not PNG, probably a typo mistake.
1973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts regarding "satoshis" post today on the mailing list? on: August 16, 2015, 06:07:47 PM
Satoshi wouldn't actually need to write any words to express a negative opinion about recent developments.

All he'd need to do is dump a few thousand BTC from one of his known wallets.

Why should he dump his bitcoin? What if he lost his keys? It is not so easy like you think. A msg signed from his PGP key would be enough.
1974  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 16, 2015, 06:01:39 PM
Do nodes really matter though if miners don't switch to XT?

Yes of course, miners without nodes are useless. Because the nodes broadcast the transactions through the network, so actually it is best firstly the nodes and after the miners (aka big pool).
1975  Other / New forum software / Re: Beta test the new forums on: August 16, 2015, 05:58:07 PM
I Follow the development on GitHub. You can make your own and submit a ticket if you find something is amiss!

That's not how it's supposed to work , I'am not even sure how developpers are working some people host the forum and post screenshots and then we all say "shitty design" then we get replied about this not being the latest version .. so where is the updated version if it's not on Github .
and .. we was expecting a Beta hosted somewhere else on December 2014 and final release on Feb 2015 but none of this happened , I'd assume we won't see any new forum anytime soon .

Have you paid something for the new epochtalk forum? I think no, so you should only wait (and wait). However it seems that the forum is the ultimate thing to think at the moment, due the bitcoin Core <> BitcoinXT debate.

#Impatience.
1976  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts regarding "satoshis" post today on the mailing list? on: August 16, 2015, 05:53:47 PM
Considering the non-malicious nature of the email and the writing style I believe it is Satoshi. If someone stole satoshi's identity they would do something way more extreme than debate blocksize. It's good to be skeptical but also good not to dismiss this sort've thing outright.

For example?
1977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 16, 2015, 05:47:45 PM
Lol I feel sorry for people coming into BTC for the first time and having to decipher all of this. Shit is crazy. Whatever, I'm holding til the end.

Ahahaha, it's a crucial time for everyone. I hope all the bitcoin will choose the right thing--- because sooner or later the block size must increase.
1978  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos (operator of Bitcointalk and Bitcoin subreddit) is censoring Bitcoin XT on: August 16, 2015, 05:27:49 PM
Anyone knows where we are supposed to post the BitcoinXT threads ? last time I posted on Bitcoin Discussion it got moved after couple of hours i guess and they got moved to Altcoin section however I see shitload of posts on Bitcoin discussion right now so .. what's up?
Are they censorship on Reddit only or here aswell ?

Technically it is not censorship but enforcement of internal rules /sarcasm.  I think you can discuss about BitcoinXT (only a client for the moment, like electrum etc..) in the off topic because bitcoinXT is not an altcoin.

1980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brain wallet - "used" and "unused" adress on: August 16, 2015, 05:07:12 PM
I don't agree with this definition.  to me a brain wallet is any wallet that can be accessed using a passphrase.

I use a passphrase to access my Bitcoin Core wallet because it's encrypted, thats a brainwallet right?

My definition of "brainwallet" is a wallet that is kept entirely in your brain, with there being no electronic or physical trace of its existence left behind. The purpose is to prevent an adversary from finding out that you have Bitcoins. I do not recommend their use at all, there are a lot of "gotchas" that you need to be careful about and most (every one I've tried) of the "tools" that make these are complete rubbish.

It seems jonald_fyookball posting only because he is paid by the sig campaign. I agree with your & DannyHamilton definition of brainwallet, because the unique possibility to spend/use those btc should be stored firstly in your 'Brain'.
