21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: PRE-ANN: People's Mark - basic income local currency in Finland - launch Oct2016 on: October 05, 2016, 08:15:55 PM
bookmarked this one, good luck !

Absolutely! First thing I did.

Thank you for this project op. I was deeply contemplating a very similar idea 2 weeks ago, for a very different community; the burningman, symbiosis, phish, bonnaroo, gratefuldead, etc, festival crowd. If this is successful then I wish to imitate this method as this could be extremely revolutionary.
Ie: basic income for a temporary nomad newage city but a very permanent community.

I look forward to watching this and am still trying to wrap my head around the details. Such as the printing of physical certificates

Any and all info about this project I will be digesting.

Isn't money anathema to Burningman?  It is all gifts, yes?
22  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: October 03, 2016, 03:20:25 AM
For fans of porn it is Amazing . because you have more privacy and that is something that is somewhat difficult these days.

and this is something that allows them to have higher incomes for these companies because some shy people will be able to enter without being observed.

in generally is a good relationship is something similar like bitcoin and betting
in this matter you are correct connecting it like betting because you can now do anonymous transaction no need for credit card or paypal that ask you for your personal data in order for you to do the transaction now you an easily enjoy the service of betting and porn without risking your true identity

Do you think there are any shy bitcoiners who like privacy?
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 02, 2016, 03:30:55 AM
The down side to the higher price is that it is more expensive to acquire.

The upside is that higher price opens up new use cases.
The price is probably not even high enough yet to support serious DNM uses so if that happens there will be upward pressures.

Bitcoin and its transparency are more suited to government, charity, and community use cases, Monero more to banking and private enterprises.  There is a very long way to go for both of these.  In development, in valuation, and in adoption.

This is just the very early beginning.
24  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If everybody stops mining... on: September 24, 2016, 12:42:40 AM
Hey Guys,

if every bitcoin miner on the world would stop mining and only my notebook is mining would I get every 10 minutes 12,5 BTC? Cheesy

I am just interested and want to know what would happen when... Wink

Best regards,

Patrick Grin

The difficulty would still be the same (until it resets lower) It is unlikely that you would find any blocks any time soon.

Update: Dragon Quest

So far the quest has garnered commitments from Syksy, Moneromooo, and RedErin.
Anyone wishing to join in the fun, and danger, please add your name to our list of intrepid hunters.

It has been so long since such a creature has been successfully hunted.
How can one refuse such a noble endeavor.  Though my bones be not what they were, they still do move on most days.  The Duke will commit to this.  What then is life, if we can not live it?  To arms! My loyal retainers and I will mount and ride with the other brave nobility who answer this call to duty.  Any less would be a shame.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 19, 2016, 10:31:17 PM
From my point of view it doesn't really matter whether this is a breakout or not.  What matters is that eventually it will break out and level up, and I don't want to be caught wrong-footed when that happens.

Call me a moon child if you like, but at least half the sovereign debt outstanding is never going to be repaid.  When that fact gets priced in, everything will sell off massively, all counterparty, repository, and fiduciary trust relationship will be called into question.  You think you have gold because you own GLD? Hmmmph.  Physical wealth safe from lien or seizure, and crypto, are going to be at maximum premium when the bail-ins begin in earnest in Europe.  Monero is the safest of all assets in this regard.

Monero will outlive the Euro.

Is there such a thing as physical wealth safe from lien or seizure?  I mean... short of standing an army on it?
27  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-29] Bloomburg.com| New Digital Currency Spikes as Drug Dealers Get on: September 10, 2016, 04:20:49 PM
so now will people stop calling bitcoin a criminal currency as criminals are using other coins ? :-D
this proves that everything can be used in good and evil. it is the user who decide what to do

With the surge of the use of Monero in the criminal world, that could divert atttention of the illegal usage of bitcoin.

This is real.

Did folks forget that Bitcoin's last All Time High was right after Silk Road was popped?
Bitcoin insiders are working hard to legitimize it.  BitFury writes anti-anon code.  Coinbase is the man in bitcoin clothing.  Even Roger Ver is pushing Monero for the Dark Net Markets.  Why?  Because it benefits bitcoin valuation to have something else be the bad boy of crypto.

If Monero does succeed as a dark net currency, look for a new ATH in Bitcoin right around the corner.  Bitcoin is king, and for its next phase of adoption, it can dust itself off, put on a suit, and walk down Main Street as if its misspent youth never happened.  It is finally getting enough market cap to be useful to a larger segment of business cases.  Bitcoin no longer needs the dark net the way it once did.
28  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-29] Bloomburg.com| New Digital Currency Spikes as Drug Dealers Get on: September 10, 2016, 04:11:51 PM
The real issue with Monero is, ironically, the same thing that people like about it: the signature scheme. While being very good at protecting tx privacy, it's not very resource efficient. Projections about the long-term growth of the Monero blockchain sounded unsustainable 12-18 months ago, when it wasn't popular at all. Now it's picking up users (and apparently real economic activity), the sustainability of the resource model Monero uses is on public trial. If crypto-vandals set their sights on Monero, the same could happen to it's tx throughput as happened to Bitcoin; spammed into permanent 100% saturation. That could put real strain on the feasibility of running a Monero node (and more so than it does Bitcoin, of course).

Monero is prepared.
Dynamic block size.
Drops mic.

Impeachment serves to avoid armed rebellion, coup, and civil war.
So having it available, makes impeachment less likely to be needed.

Bitcoin value will increase as it exits the Dark Net Marketplaces.  (Remember what happened after the Silk Road bust?  New ATH)
Monero value will increase as it enters the DNMs.

Right place and right time for both.

OP should expect that fraud charges are filed against.
Unless it gets cleared, and you get evidence of this filed with all the banks involved, (and the banks don't mess up and fail to get you out of the inter-bank fraud databases) you should expect that all your bank accounts will be closed by your banks and that you will not be able to open any new bank accounts for some years.
33  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-29] Bloomburg.com| New Digital Currency Spikes as Drug Dealers Get on: September 02, 2016, 03:07:29 PM
I know alt-coin supporters and specifically Monero supporters are ecstatic over a wiggle in their value, but there are larger problems such visibility raises. Without getting into technical details, lets just focus on the collective hashpower of the Monero network.

http://minexmr.com/pools.html

There's a graph near the bottom that shows the average collective hashing power of the major pools - 24.1 Megahashes/sec. This is a laughable minority, which brings to fore another potential threat. Lets say you're law enforcement or some other actor. All of these people doing things you perceive as illegal have adopted a poorly-defended alt-coin as their method of trade (Citation needed - extremely dubious).

So, as a LEO you work on how to disrupt this network.

If this was Bitcoin, well, you have a lot of work to do if you're trying to be a majority miner and make your chain the "correct" one. Bitcoin's collective hashpower stands at an estimated 1,798,050 Terahashes/sec, magnitudes higher than a paltry 24.1 that Monero offers.

Guess which is easier to attack?

The point is, I'm extremely doubtful that anyone would jump on the Monero train and not have their network severely disrupted by law enforcement if it indeed became the "currency of the darknet". Its simply too small and too poorly secured.

What do they gain from such an attack against Monero?
They do not learn anything about the transactions from mining, and how to determine what transactions to attack?   The most they could do would be to mine empty blocks and delay transactions by two minutes or so.
This sort of attack is not effective verses block-chains where the transactions are private, not public.

In fact they could already be doing this, no one would know, because it wouldn't matter.

And comparing the hash rate of a CPU mined chain to an ASIC mined chain is a false comparison.  You should know better, sir.  FUD rejected.

If the majority of bitcoin wallets implemented ring-signatures and required the use of BIP47 addresses (aka stealth), then Bitcoin could stop worrying about this sort of thing also, but too many do not care about their privacy until after it is violated, (and they find out).
34  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-02]Purse.io: The DADT Business of Bitcoin on: September 02, 2016, 02:56:22 PM
The article is mostly FUD.

Amazon pays foreigners in Amazon money in order to avoid the currency problems with paying in local money everywhere for affiliate and global partner programs.  Purse.io provides one way of converting the amazon money to locally spendable money after they have bought all the junk on Amazon that they want.
35  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-02]Bitfinex Reimburses First Bitcoin Exchange Hack Victims on: September 02, 2016, 02:47:40 PM
Bitfinex has reimbursed its first wave of customers.
Announced 1st September, the Hong Kong bitcoin exchange revealed it had purchased more than 1% of the blockchain debt tokens it issued to users in August as a way to pay them back for losses it incurred in a debilitating hack.
While a small step to recovery, analysts were largely positive about the move due in large part to the exchange's decision to purchase the tokens at an above-market value of $1 each, roughly double the market value when the redemption took place.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitfinex-reimburses-first-bitcoin-exchange-hack-victims/

This is the right way to do it, they have to repay at full issueance value (arguably with interest).
If Bitfinex bought at market value, they would create the appearance of impropriety (even if it were not improper, they could be accused and the accusation would become expensive).

Well done, Bitfinex, a good start.
36  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: What if I put physical Bitcoins on Craigslist? on: September 02, 2016, 02:42:22 PM
Funded and unfunded.. ??

LTC-DOGE ??

Inform me on the Craigslist/Bitcoin dynamic if you would please..

I'm not aware of any jurisdiction served by Craigslist where this is against the law.
Details matter of course.
For example, large cash transactions in Louisiana are legally uncertain.
MSB registration for large amounts and persistent business operation is recommended.
37  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-02]Blockchain Education Network Unveils Bitcoin Airdrop Plans on: September 02, 2016, 02:34:28 PM
Bitcoin airdrops are an excellent way to get cryptocurrency in the hands of as many people as possible. Various blockchain hubs located across North America will hand out Bitcoin to start the new school year. The Bitcoin Airdrop, as this giveaway is known as, is quickly becoming a yearly event students can look forward to.

This is a good activity for a local high school, why wait until they are off to college?
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 02, 2016, 02:01:10 PM

I expect to see XMR back at a reasonable price within the next week or two, 0.05 - 0.07 is reasonable

I'll take that price thank you --- prob the most sensible thing you've posted, well, ever.

I've been dealing with serious coins like ethereum lately, keep forgetting to put enough zeroes when dealing with shitcoins

Still waiting for those ring signatures that were coming on ethereum in a few months?

It's one of the least interesting Ethereum projects so no rush really. It'll be done when its done.

The most interesting so far was TheDAO, so yeah, can see why folks are so busy.
39  Bitcoin / Press / [2016-09-02] Bloomberg.com| Want a free market? Abolish cash. on: September 02, 2016, 12:05:30 PM

Written by the Fed Chairman in St Loius who authored the seminal "Money is Memory" paper scribbled this editorial article in Bloomberg view.

With central banksters like this, it validates the need for Bitcoin.  When they squeeze freedoms by pretending to do the opposite, it only makes our case for adopting Bitcoin stronger.
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 02, 2016, 11:44:00 AM
Yes, that's all good.

But believe me, the sensationalist pieces will follow -- that's not being either pessimistic or contrarian, simply experienced with the print medium.  Its the obvious angle for editors to spice up a dry tech/economics story.

In some ways its not a problem, it simply reflects the same rite of passage BTC went through -- and of course it does mean a lot of writers are going to have volte face on how they describe BTC (ie they sold it to the masses as anonymous but hey turns out it isn't).

I wonder if the smart editor would pick a different angle. I mean, what bitcoin went through has been done so many times now. It's really beating a dead horse, and I just wonder if that's a good sell for a news-outlet. If I was an editor that only had page-views / newspaper sales and a happy board in mind, then I*m not even sure I'd choose that whole approach and sell again. But I am giving them too much credit...

Smart editors....ha ha ha

"If it bleeds, it leads"....similarly sex, crime and drugs get eyeballs.

Also, most editors are in thrall to their proprietors' political views/ambitions.  This (XMR) is low hanging fruit for rightwing news outlets.

Way, way too much credit Smiley

My point is: a tsunami of these stories is swelling on the horizon but don't worry, in the long run it will be good for XMR.

The prevailing tenor of the stories on this are likely to be
"We used to think that Bitcoin was the bad money, because crimes, but now we see that it is Monero which is soo much worse"
This ends up being good press mentions for both XBT and XMR.

I maintain that the main market for XMR in the long run is the multinational corporation and the banks.  Those are the biggest crime syndicates there are.  The DNM stuff is just a proving ground for the banksters.
