interesting logarithmic Monte Carlo simulation of tx confirmation delays related to progressive filling of current 1MB block size.  bottom line is we need an increase in the block size otherwise confirmation delays will exponentially increase as the fill reaches the max.  note in the conclusion who would benefit from NOT increasing the block size; "SC's".  no wonder gmax and LukeJr are spamming Reddit in defiance of Gavin's proposal:

http://hashingit.com/analysis/34-bitcoin-traffic-bulletin

Nice graph! Thanks for sharing. So with a 100% filled block you have a 0.1 probability of having your tx confirmed after 1000/sec. This is nasty.

As I already said  multiple times I'm a big supporter of Justus proposal to eliminate false block size scarcity and introducing economic incentive in the p2p nodes network.

Nonetheless I think that a part of txs will occur out of bitcoin main chain, through payment hub, lightning network, you name it. In fact the very solution Justus proposed to implement a price discovery mechanism in Bitcoin p2p network is based on micropayment channels.

Justus laid out a structure.  There are a great number of missing pieces between what exists today in the consensus code and that structure.  There are also undefined and missing elements in the ecosystem.  I like the structure too, but we aren't anywhere close to it yet and it won't be soon.

The current proposal is Gavin's most reasonable one yet.  He dropped the assumptions about the future, took out most of the guesswork, and is implementing the method satoshi offered when the antispam 1mb limit was created in 0.3 or so.

More would be great, and future proof would be even better, no limit best....  but... remember, we are still in beta.  The pieces to do any of that are not written, tested, integrated, accepted and secured.

Bitcoin is still a baby.  So as eager as we all are to get there, we will get there by baby steps or end up not getting at all.  There are a great many looking for us to fail (check the short interest lately?) we help that failure by over-extending what can be done.

20mb gives us some room to build more of the missing pieces.  Its enough for now.
282  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: the Leave Us the Hell Alone Bill and The new bill, H.R. 5777 on: May 05, 2015, 11:35:22 AM
They just want more tax, more control and destroy bitcoin because its a direct thread to the currently going fiat ponzi schemes.

Its been said that the friend of a conqueror is merely the final victim.  The Government is the Fed's final victim in the ponzi, the government is not the final beneficiary.

Individuals within the governments will oppose it for government use, because it makes corruption so much more difficult with all transactions in the clear.  When we find government officials approving bitcoin for government use (as some have for traffic tickets) we may find the few anti-corruption government officials and seek ways to promote their advancement.

It's really sad if you think like that, there is no non-corrupt government. It's either corrupt or it's a tyrrany.

If the government gets 100% funding and perfect income then it has more money to do nasty surveilance and police state.

If the government is inefficient and very corrupt then atleast you have some basic freedom.

There is no 3rd way, where the government gets 100% funding and it's nice to people, thats only propaganda.
So funny.
Try not to pretend that you know my thoughts, especially if it makes you sad.
Then take a look at the cypherpunk manifesto someday.
Bitcoin is part of the path to making government obsolete and unnecessary.

Also, when the possibility of corruption in government is diminished, it reduces the incentive for corrupt people to promote government powers.

Even with no government, you still don't want random people parking on your flowerbed, right?

Thank you!!!  This was so nice. Would anyone mind sharing their Twitter addresses so I can send out a #FF? I've never felt welcome on Bitcointalk (a little scared, actually...) although it's been a long time since I've visited.

Thanks again!

Just sent you a DM via twitter.  This post is for confirmation.

A great many people DO think that there is something inherently wrong with socialism.

You bet. Some also think that Ron Paul is perfectly sane & even believe in Austrian school economics. I know all about it.

I take it that by "out there" you mean outside the government sector?

And a very effective way of running an economy which is what I was driving at.

Sure, but that is a horrible job for a government to be doing.  It works well until it doesn't.  When it fails it is catastrophic due to the massive bundling of services within the government institution.  It becomes the opposite of anti-fragile.

Building tanks out of glass is a very effective way of seeing the enemy from within the tank also.  It is just not the right job for it to be doing.
286  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 04, 2015, 05:18:23 PM
Lets see what happens.

Either bitcoin is very underpriced or GBTC users are happy to pay a heavy premium.

Dumping into the opening on a Chinese exchange shows the degree of desperation from bears - yes you will have to cover your positions Smiley

Both are true.  GBTC is the only option for some classes of funds (so heavy premium), and bitcoin is underpriced.  This is a decent arbitrage opportunity.
287  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 04, 2015, 05:15:14 PM

Your edit is pretty much what I was trying to say. There is nothing inherently wrong with Socialism. The Reich's (amazing) initial success in WW2 was, in large part, due to its socialist aspects: state taking control of the industry, subsidized scientific research, etc., etc. It's the "Nationalist" part that made nazis ...unlovable. The whole racial purity, eugenics, antisemitism, lebensraum at any cost etc. The "socialism" part worked like a charm Smiley

A great many people DO think that there is something inherently wrong with socialism.  It is an unnecessary and detrimental bundling of services into too-big-to-fail geographic monopolies.

Why does the insurance company need an army?

Personally, I am not well pleased by the unification of the entity that provides the survivor benefit (social security) also deciding how long I survive (health care).  It seems a very clear conflict of interest with an abhorrent enforced trust.

The fact that the governance of most geographies have fallen into this trap does not make it more welcome or justified, only less so.
The only opt-out is exit and there are increasingly fewer of those.

It's about time people are fighting back. These idiots need to be flat out embarrassed in  public over and over:

Doesn't he realize how bad this argument is?
Traffic rules and copyright law also protects those who rape assault and kill...as well as everyone else.

Girl use Bitcoins in US and European countries as they are in line with the latest technology and now it has become very common to use a bitcoin especially in western countries But i doubt that whether any indian girls are aware about the bitcoins or not

Apparently a woman in India knows a lot more about this issue than you do.  One in particular, Jhinuk Cchowdhury, wrote this article for RT:

I choose you five:
Macsga
Rpietila
NewLiberty
Its About Sharing
Otoh

1BTC each (for now), should you choose to accept the responsibility.

rpietila will have to update the OP here with this magnanimity!

There's been a recent kerfuffle that there aren't enough women in Bitcoin.  I'd suggest the broader issue that there aren't enough people in Bitcoin... but that aside, one simple thing would be to put more bitcoin in the wallets/purses of... women in bitcoin, and so,

To make it even more fun, here are the twitter addresses so that you can use @changtip to send it which might further popularize this great idea of circular donations to even more folks.

So we can start with Victoria Van Eyk of @changetip and a few others I know and see where it goes from there:

50mXBT @AnnaKNonE
50mXBT @BitcoinBelle
50mXBT @GiaJordan

Many of these women are involved with charities and all are good causes.  There are a LOT I've left out, but it is already getting to be so so many that it gets diluted to the point of not being so meaningful anyway.

So the argument goes from "required by guidelines to report transactions" to "judge transactions and refuse to enact them". Quite a jump.

It pits the notion of "Legal Tender" and "right to refuse service" at odds.  The bank wins both ways.

Central banking has waged an international war on cash for a long time.
We are down to about 10% off ledger money (cash) now in the USA for example.

The banker's goal is for money to only ever exist or move at their pleasure.  It becomes monetary totalitarianism.  To quote Bernard von Nothaus, "People can not be free until their money is free".

The Science Is Settled!!!

Is Economics a science now?
The results just seem to be for sale to the highest bidders.
The international war on cash is accelerating.

What's next?...fine art, rare goods, will only exist in registries with a bank?
After cash is banned, it's likely gold will be next. They tried it once before and this time they will succeed. While nations are trying to repatriate their gold and Wall Street issues paper gold, physical gold itself will be under attack.

Well, I think their goal is not just to make life miserable, but to actually end it. It is illogical (to me, I am open to ideas!) that the Matrix-type total slavery as just the provider of energy without free will, movement etc would be the final goal.

- They don't need it. Robotics can provide all the stuff that is needed, at max the "needed" amount of human servants could be a few times the population of the masters.
- If possible, to avoid retaliation, as much people as possible should be killed at once, once the killing begins. They can always be let multiply afterwards when control is easier.
- It has never happened in history that a country build concentration camps and they will not soon be filled with dissidents. (Or think of prisons if camp feels too bad.) Never. They have always been "correct" in estimating the "need"  Tongue This is a dire warning to the thinking people in the USA. According to historical evidence, you are targeted for extermination. Reversing the course of the tide is wishwork, battling against it may in some cases be heroic, but escaping it is not very stupid either.

To not sound repetitive, I repeat:

The implicit goal in the actions that the money masters are doing, is total control and enslavement of mankind. It is already much further than most readers are able to understand.

If that wasn't enough, they also have the explicit goal of killing off at least 90% of all people. While they have had the goal for decades at least, the reality has gone to the opposite direction. It is quite plausible that since reaching the total control of mankind enables killing off 90%, and both are the goals, one would follow the other.

People are deficient in logic since they cannot comprehend this, drugged in the mind since they don't care about this, and hopelessly conditioned to lick their money masters' a$$ since they believe that this would not happen even though their masters say it will, and the people themselves are assisting it by staying in their jobs, in their tyrannical countries, not speaking out, not helping their neighbor when he is targeted, ...

The only thing required for evil to triumph is that the good men do nothing.

I am disappointed that the prosperity of the 1960s in the USA created a generation that has allowed all their liberties taken away from them in 50 years, and soon their life as well.

One of the saddest things i ever saw was Detroit after the auto industry debacle...they outsourced the jobs and killed the middle class with one click of the mouse imho! The fed used to lower rates if unemployed rose which fired up the mfg creating more jobs and lowering employment again...yada yada yada! Now the fed lost a trick out of the bag because of corporate greed!!! But hey what do I know? Chef thinks I'm a creeper as my daughter jax would say!
Peace and love....and remember peace excels all thought! Night!

In case anyone missed it, the proposal in
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-04-10/citi-economist-says-it-might-be-time-to-abolish-cash

Includes "Remove the fixed exchange rate between currency and central bank reserves/deposits."
This takes inflation to a whole new level.

When things like this are seriously proposed by the heads of the largest banks, we should understand that this is our time.  We must make the most of it or be doomed.

I would like to point out this article on self defence. Self defence can be executed on every level, for example to protect the value of your savings by diversification and using sound money. But ultimately, the pressure, theft and coercion comes down to one individual using force to violate another's rights, therefore called violation of rights, or just violence.

Self defence is a mirror of rights, and you can not have the one without the other. This is broken down in this splendidly written short article by Major Caudill (can be found many places on the net):

http://whatonearthishappening.com/images/stories/woeih/podcast/190/The-Gun-Is-Civilization.pdf

I get some points of your argumentation. It is essential to the world view of separation (me and the others). Philosophy, physics and neuroscience show, that there is no separartion of me and the "sorrounding" enviroment. In this (broader) world view, you have to rethink the concept of life as a whole. This is why I think. The gun is just an evolutionary step, that has a role to play, but not so much in the way you (or your argumentation suggest it to). At least not in the long-term. You look for a crooked stick, if you want guns to be the big equalizer of our society.

If you do not recognize the separation between yourself and others, a lot of discourse falls into irrelevance, but I am not there... You can not distinguish the mugger and yourself, so there is no difference whether you die, or he. Hmm, does that make sense?

You realize that this is factually incorrect.  Science, and specifically philosophy and physics are all about making distinctions between things.
(Either that, or because I realize it is incorrect... and you aren't separate from me... than you also realize it. because you are me.)

Game over.

Question about the University.

I see that The Prince of Soul and The Duke of New Liberty have declined to reclaim their University donations.

I'm curious as to the purpose of those assets within the new structure of the University as a federation of private colleges. My decision to reclaim my donations was based on the apparent lack of any useful purpose. However, I may reconsider if I my interpretation was in error.

Perhaps the new Chancellor or another would like to explain the new role of University character assets.

Chancellor Emeritus Smooth, as ever is both appropriately curious and on point with this line of inquiry.

In this age of reconstruction, as well as in the coming ages, it is expected that the value of people will continue the trend upwards, and the vesting of skills and knowledge in the people of the Crypto Kingdom remains the mission of the University.

Once the claims periods have ceased, what remains will be put towards this mission in toto.

There are many diverse centers of knowledge and excellence that are already worthy of recognition.  Military sciences, Medical sciences, Health and Human services, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Textiles, Music and the Arts all immediately come to mind.

From these existing centers of expertise, as well as new ones, there will be spawned the training of skills so that the goods produced by the denizens of the Crypto Kingdom may rival what is now only imported from elsewhere.  This takes innovation, advancement and research, as well as practical studies.

In practical terms this may provide the mechanism for some promotions from the beginner levels up to the level of mastery in a craft, as well as the training of the necessary NPCs as may be needed to expand the businesses within the city.

I personally think that robots will substitude humans as cromagnons neandhertals... we cant compare to machines, they are better and more capable in every way. Its naive to think that rbotics will never go wrong... our history is proof of what humans are able to do. Its gonna end bad for us and I am not technophobe.

I think there’s a really high chance that we see a lot more government action against bitcoin, including the core protocol.

...

I keep talking to regulators at conferences who believe bitcoin simply must change to bring it in line with other payment systems; unfortunately this means adding identity information to bitcoin transactions and making it possible to blacklist funds.

I'll continue to maintain that the best defense to this is to make bitcoin as widely used worldwide directly by people as end-users with their own wallets. If everyone just holds coins or uses bitpay and coinbase, it will be much easier to push regulation into the system. If usage grows globally to be a complicated mess of direct person-to-person usages and numerous small services spread around the world, it will be very hard for a single gov to push regulation in (even for the USSA).
We should do the opposite and add more privacy features to clients.

Adding finishing touches to an improved stealth address proposal that includes useful features like being usable on mobile wallets without requiring the help of a trusted third party server to identify your incoming payments.

Bitcoin transparency is inherently ANTI-CORRUPTION, so we should expect corrupted governments to attempt to create limitations and regulations.

Wherever government is designed to merely govern and not also to usurp and corrupt, we should expect to foster the use of Bitcoin within both the private sector but also in the public sector.  In doing this, Bitcoin can prevent and expose corruption.  This is a demarcation between those that merely pay anti-corruption lip service, and those that truly seek to rid this cancer from their jurisdictions.

With the advent of Bitcoin, governments now for the first time can become provably non-corrupt in their public affairs.
And we can see when the transfers go out to the private sector also, and the use of 'stealth addresses' makes this possible also, within the same protocol, and in the same block chain.

Concerning University

Duke of New Liberty makes no claim against past donations.
Further in regards to the missive from HE Dr. Paul Choo, Ph.D, The Prince of Soul, AOD-Col, RT-3 as conveyed by HRM:

HE Dr. Paul Choo, Ph.D, The Prince of Soul, AOD-Col, RT-3

Everyone with an interest in the University, Culture & Science, the shareholders of the Most Ancient and Worshipful Corporation of the Town Hall, and for the success of the Kingdom

Greetings,

...

Which brings us to the administration. The King explained his dream of the new University to me and persuaded me to take the position of Chancellor, after HE The Marquess resigned and reaffirmed his non-willingness to continue even after the King's hint. As for the qualifications, he pointed out my position as Professor IRL and very wide connections to all walks of life. After some hesitation, I decided to accept, and promised that I can allocate the time to fulfill the duties in V.4 (against his promise that he will continue to take care of my finances as he has done so far). We both feel that the only person more suitable for taking the helm as Chancellor at this point is HH The Duke of New Liberty, but he has not been able to be contacted lately. If he is interested and can spare the time for the role that requires good interpersonal skills, we are both happy to pass it on to him.

It is with humility and a sense of solemn duty that I accept the position of Chancellor of the University.
It is a great honor to follow in the path chartered by His Excellence Chancellor-Emeritus Smooth in establishing this great institution of learning.

As a first action, I would hereby appoint HE Dr. Choo, the Prince of Soul as the High Rector of the University, so that rules and structure be maintained under his most august and learned authority.
Further to this also convey the tenured positions of Endowed University Professor and Dean of the University Institute of Eastern Cultures in recognition of HE Dr. Choo's knowledge, expertise, and capabilities in this specialty.

For those among us who are seeking to open a college of their specialty in the area for a unified structure of interdisciplinary studies there are many roles to be filled, and many specialties.  Knowledge applied, creates business.

The structure of roles based on the prominence of your school is as follows:

Code:
Distinguished and/or Endowed Professor and/or University Professor
Professor
Associate Professor
Assistant Professor
Clinical Professor,
Professor of Practice,
Research Professor,
Research Associate,
Lecturer,
Instructor
Adjunct Professor (part-time or remote affiliated faculty).

We also expect visiting lecturers and foreign experts to visit the more prominent schools imparting their hard won secrets, talents and knowledge.
For example, we recently hosted a foreign scholar the notable and wise Simon Steven, who brought secrets from far to the West:

He graced us with a display and demonstration of his wind powered carriages, which the local limners were able to capture in a depiction:

This innovation, though it be not at all of practical uses, was of great interest to all that attended the lectures.

And so it is with much optimism that we look forward to the many profitable discoveries our scholars will bring us in the coming years.
