41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: September 02, 2016, 03:20:01 AM

There is no continued rise, the dump will happen. At this moment we are all playing roulette on when it will all come down. The thing that is keeping the price up is the hype around DNM adoption.

Come Sept 1, when DNM Oasis and AlphaBay both starting using XMR... if for some reason we low volume or lower than expected usage I can see the price come tumbling down. But from now to Sept 1st everyone is riding the hype train and it is much harder to manipulate the price down.

So... Any news on this? Are volumes holding up, are people actually using this thing?

Out of all listings on Alphabay, which add up to 46878 at the time of this post, 2561 accept Monero already. This is roughly 5.5%.
Vendors are conducting 'experiments' by accepting Monero only on few of their listings, to see if there is any interest. We should see rapid adoption when (and if) people start using XMR to buy stuff.

It is funny because I am thinking which Monero holders will now buy drugs on Alphabay. Cheesy The best move for the Monero team right now is to set up more infrastructure to buy XMR easier for those people who are interested. It would be better for more shapeshift type of service where the buyer can be anonymous. So maybe a service like localbitcoins for the darknet is a good idea.

I noticed that the localmonero.com domain was available until less than 2 weeks ago, so maybe something will come of it?

A tired messenger arrives wearing strange clothing bearing an ornate scroll tube, sealed with the signet of Duke Joseph.

The message within reads simply.

Purchase CKG.

Signed,

I can't wait to get back into the game. A 2 month hiatus is about as much as I can take Cheesy

Markets tend to price things more fairly than not.  Buying now is not more wrong than buying in the past.
The difference is that you are buying a more successful effort, so it costs appreciably more.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: August 28, 2016, 02:53:49 PM
Ain't this just a pump still just like how any coins can do? The graph on bittrex seem to have come down now. I does seem like users are already dumping it. Dark market don't matter to you if you are not in the shady business so this coin must really be for them only.

bitcoin was around $100 when its primary use was in Silkroad

Bitcoin went from $1 to $31 in the first few months of Silkroad.
Feb2011.

Then it fell to $2 so...

A few thing people here don't seem to understand:

Most buying is done off exchanges and OTC. By a wide margin too.

China is not leading this market.

No fee Chinese exchanges are being used to "control" the market, because bots are linked and people think China is leading the market.
...
The rise to nearly 800 was one entity

...

If you figured this much out, then you probably also figured out that the one entity is not done yet either.

If one entity managed to corner BTC already, we have bigger issues
Funny how people always try to explain stuff through one hugely powerful entity, the great manipulator.
I guess it is easier to imagine a single actor and attribute intentions to this actor than to imagine the net effects of a large number of individuals.

This new buyer is doing quite a lot of distribution, not holding so much, and should be buying a more continuously for a good while

48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to go to US$800+ on: May 29, 2016, 07:15:01 AM
my optimistic add, when I saw the price move fast enough over $500. so I believe the price could touch $800 possible after halving or at the end of the year.

Maybe 2 or 3 days ago I would say that it isn't very realistic to see the price reach $800 this year, but with the current insane price increase literally anything is possible. China has no limits it seems. They are less than $10 away from reaching $600 right now.

yes i see china trade nearing $600, I hope others can follow the price of china, so $800 this year can be achieved, because maybe if $600 before halving it was insane beyond prediction.

Sell into hope, buy into fear.

I think there are some breakthroughs coming for anon.

In the mean time, this could be a fun diversion:

Bitcoin needs code-reviewers, possibly more even than coders.
These exercises can be great ways to get folks thinking, and observing.

Law enforcement is discovering that Bitcoin provides evidence without the need for any subpeona.
Maybe soon they will discover that when governments force themselves to use it internally, it can also expose corruption.

Having the 'wrong' value minted onto the coin is a historical note.  It shows the approximate value of the piece on the year it was minted.
Contrast with the 'real-time' value of the QR pricing.

I like it. Tried to visit your website today (with a view to a purchase), but didn't get very far. Whats up ? Basically was asked if I understood the deal - yep, I do - but then couldn't get any further.
Apologies if this has been explained upthread but I don't have the time to search back.

Thank you for the support.  The vetting process is for wholesale buyers.
52  Bitcoin / Press / [2016-05-13] - Bodog Makes Bitcoin it's Fiat Currency. on: May 13, 2016, 10:37:19 PM
"We wanted to inform you in advance that, effective June 1, 2016, we will be moving all Betting Partners affiliate payments over to Bitcoin. Bitcoin will be the only payment method available moving forward, no other payment methods will be supported as of June 1st 2016 - Including Player Account Transfer. "

http://www.casinomeister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73286&s=59a7e9f21ae119775bfd35f849ee7b26

Although this payment method may be new to you, rest assured, it's very easy to use and we ask that you start getting to know the product so that May's commissions are paid in full by June 10, 2016. As we approach the cut-off date, you'll receive all the relevant information, including visual step-by-steps instructions and a video tutorial.

Here are some of the advantages of using Bitcoin:

It's really easy to use:
– Visit Blockchain Info and click on the 'Wallet' tab at the top of the page to set up your first wallet address - this takes only a few minutes and you can generate new wallet addresses as required at the click of a button.
– Next, you will be able to transfer your earnings from Blockchain.info to any number of different Bitcoin Exchange services such as Kraken to exchange your Bitcoin into Fiat Currency, or you can also hold your Bitcoin in your wallet and spend it at your convenience.
– We strongly suggest that you do not transfer your earnings directly to an exchange service but, first, to a Bitcoin wallet (Blockchain.info). Then you can move your earnings from your wallet to your exchange service as you see fit.

Ease is not the only advantage to using Bitcoin:
– Receive your commission payments after they have been processed in under an hour.
– No restrictions on the amount you can receive. We can process up to $40,000 per Bitcoin Address. If your earnings are above $40,000, you will be required to provide multiple addresses. However, they will all be processed at the same time, which means no delay in receiving your entire payment.
– No fees to receive Bitcoin payments to your wallets.
– No personal information required to receive payments.
– No risk of payments being delayed by third parties.
– The minimum payment threshold will be lowered to only $10 USD, which is great news for partners who do not hit the current minimum payment thresholds.
– Bitcoin wallet security is our top priority. Affiliates will be required to provide new Bitcoin addresses each month in order to receive their payment. For your protection and ours, we will not be able to process multiple payments to the same Bitcoin address. This process is very easy and a new address can be generated within seconds from any Bitcoin wallet.

If your monthly earnings are significantly larger, we strongly suggest looking into Bitcoin Armory. They provide a secure, offline storage solution for holding Bitcoin. Use this to hold the majority of your Bitcoin balance offline, while using other online or mobile wallet applications for regular day to day spending. They also offer Tutorials should you need to use their services..

Evaluating consumables, short course

CLXII (Spirit) - Health: 34 , Culture: 6 , Wisdom: 5

This has a consume value that can be derived as follows:
- Number consumed: 1 => all effects at 400%
- Primary reason to consume: CUL (brings in 24*CUL). The value of CUL is linear, the book value is 70k and King's secret conservative valuation is 50k per point. The latter is used. Value of CUL: 24*0.05 = 1.20 mil.
- Bonus: 20*WIS. It is possible to substitute CAN consumption with MUS, which brings in 9*WIS more at the cost of 90k. Therefore the 20*WIS are worth 20*10k = 0.2 mil.
- Bonus: 136*Health. If the challenge is very bad, this could be worth much more, but in a usual old guy challenge, the marginal health point may be worth about 5k. Therefore value of health effect: 0.78 mil.

This makes one bottle worth about 2.2 mil when no special health need is present. No more CLXII will be created, and it is the first spirit in the game, from the year 1600. As Cognac, it does not spoil, and all the effects are likely to go up (at a snail's pace of course), with no mechanism to go down. A piece of trivia - the IPO price in 1600 was 4.2 mil.

HM in his modesty discounts the rich, complex aroma and unusually long, wonderfully pleasant finish of this exceptional blend.  It presents a distinguished flavour profile that is unlikely ever to be reproducible by the craft and presents a perfect pairing to some of the Kingdom's most delectable meals.

Completely aside from all of the aforementioned benefits most eloquently described by HM.  The color, aroma and taste is incomparably magnificent.

The early coins may also have been sold off-chain to other hodlers.
These could be the most collectible coins for historic reasons.
The collectible value being destroyed when they are moved on chain may be the reason for this.

So economic forces may keep these off chain.
56  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcoin Specie Project sponsored by the makers of New Liberty Dollar on: March 16, 2016, 07:07:13 AM
Sorry for the necro-bump, but I just ran across this thread thanks to the link in OP's signature.

I'm really wanting to know two things:

1) What URL does that QR code resolve to?  (is it still working today?)
2) Are these still for sale?

I love the idea of a silver coin that tells its value in BTC.  I've never seen anything like it and I hope that I can find one and that the links in them still work!

I believe the only way to get the Silver Bitcoin Specie nowadays is through Re-Sellers. User tyrion70 actually has both the 2013 and 2014 versions, along with the Limited Edition gold-plated Silver Bitcoin Specie (only 100 minted) for sale here on the forum. They are very nicely made coins, some of my favorite BTC and silver coins, and they look great.

Unfortunately though, there are tons of fake Silver Bitcoin Species floating around out there on eBay. You can easily spot them because they are usually listed for ~$4, are coming from China, and are almost guaranteed to be silver-plated (if even plated) instead of 1 Troy Ounce .999 Fine Silver like the real deal are. Sadly I think this fact brings down the value of the real Silver BTC Specie coins.

An example of the fakes here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-freedom-BTC-Coin-Gold-silver-Plated-Physical-Bitcoin-souvenir-coin-/271860732183?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f4c299117
These are NOT the real Silver Bitcoin Species as released by NewLiberty. No one would be selling real 1 oz .999 Silver coins for ~$5 a piece with the spot price of silver more than 3x that currently.

Yah, that's too bad.  And I zoomed in on the image of the qr on the OP and it seems it resolves to bithardcash.com/ag which doesn't seem to be up anymore.  Too bad.

I wonder if those guys would ever renew the domain or hand it off to someone who can host it (I'd host it for free if I just have to run a widget to show the price of an ounce of silver in BTC).

Looking more closely I think it was a mistake to put .25 quarter bitcoin on the front.  Since the QR code is supposed to resolve to the actual current value, putting the wrong value on the front seems weird.  Stil a cool looking coin tho.

59  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin and Porn on: January 14, 2016, 01:02:38 AM
Gambling as well as using it by syndicates that wants some ransoms or paying through bitcoin  buying drugs or weapons.
Gambling is definitely not a side effect or as bad you think.Yes, drugs might not be good but aren't they already being sold with other currencies ? fiat has the most influence on the drugs and other illegal weapons and most likely will always be.It's not worth comparing.

Gambling is a social good.

Gambling is a tax on innumeracy by the free market.

It shifts resources toward those more mathematically inclined, and away from those that aren't.  This is a benefit to society.

Yes, there are addictive personality types that suffer.  It is a different but related issue.

Now that the case is over, probation is ended, and the government are giving back everything.
The government does everything except admit it was wrong.

Malicious prosecutions.
Roger Ver had it with his firecracker, and Bernard Von Nothaus with the Liberty Dollars.

USA is no longer going at this in pieces and individual.
Operation Chokepoint catalogs the edges of what liberty and freedom remain, and bundle them under the umberlla of "banking's unwanted".
