21  Economy / Speculation / Why didn't MtGox halt trading like they've done in the past? on: February 20, 2014, 08:45:41 PM
Seriously... we've seen MtGox stop trading all together at least once (I think maybe even twice, that I recall) to let the market "cool down."

So I can't understand why they didn't just halt trading until the withdrawal issue is fixed.  This seems almost criminal in my mind.

Am I missing something?

scratch that.  still not working.  guess i jumped the gun.  it seemed more stable at first, but now it seems as unstable as before.  I got the kernel panic again as well.  frickin annoying... I wanna mine and every other old motherboard has never given me grief, but this one.... i'm about to throw it out the window.

google didn't yield much when i searched for linux drivers for this board.  maybe i'll try a new adapter or something.

sure enough.  turned off the overclock "genie" setting and voila!  All is working now.
Guess the overclock was unstable for linux.  weird.

Thanks for your responses tho.

No wireless.
This is my home/gaming PC.  So ya, everything works fine from Windows.

I realized I'm getting a kernel panic.  I've linked the output of the error message.  I tried static IP and the problems still exists.

I am going to try disabling the overclock and see if that does anything.

Error details:

Thanks for looking and trying to help.

DHCP on DD-WRT Netgear router.

I suppose trying static would be a place to start.
31  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / MSI 990FXA-GD80 & SMOS linux - network issues on: December 23, 2013, 11:57:49 PM
I am trying to run a single 7950 on a 990FXA-GD80 based miner.
I can boot into SMOS linux just fine but the network is intermittent.
Running a simple ping of google.com or 8.8.8.8 shows that the network works fine for a little while and then stops working.  It then resumes working and then stops working.  repeatedly.

I would love any insight into what could be causing this issue.  Is it likely to be a motherboard firmware issue?

What happened to the people who bought at $30 in 2011 and held for 2 years?

Still trying to recover my friends account from Gox which was apparently deleted and then someone took his user name.  He bought at 31.  After battling gox support and finally finding his account number in the list of hacked accounts.  We are now waiting and watching them lose value as Gox support can't seem to fulfill a username reset request.  It's been well over a month.  So ya, that's what's happened to one.

35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SMOS linux 1.0 - Scrypt Mining Operating System on: November 27, 2013, 08:37:33 PM
Can someone help me.

when mining with one 5870 I can't get it hashing faster than ~300kh/s

When I was mining with Windows 7 I got ~400
I would run via this line: cgminer-3.4.3-windows\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://coinotron.com:3334 -u evlewlew.miner0 -p xxx --thread-concurrency 7168 -I 17 -g 1 -w 256

How can I incorporate these settings in the cgminer.conf file in SMOS.  I tried editing it to the best of my knowledge but i think some other arguments are causing the low performance.  When I tried to remove the arguments I thought were unnecessary then cgminer wouldn't even open.

Does anyone have a working config file for a 5870 with SMOS or can help me make one based on the settings above?
36  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / What to do with BFL order? Upgrade to hosted or keep jalapenos? on: November 01, 2013, 03:16:38 AM
I have an order for 2 7GH/s Jally's from 4/21 which should be shipping any day now.

My concern is that I think it's still worthwhile to mine with them since I consider my initial investment a sunk cost. However speculation shows that upgrading to hosted while be around twice as profitable if BFL gets it up and running within 3 months.

The question is, what would you do?  Keep Jally's and mine in hope for a future trade in value?  Or upgrade and wait again?  We all know BFL timelines are shifty....

(Just to clarify... the question is not "What should I have done?")

Thank you for any helpful insight you're willing to share with me.

Aren't all those payment methods chargeback'able?

I'm not sure... Are they?

edit: after a quick search it looks like these are not the best payment methods to accept.  So how does one minimize risk selling bitcoins?
