381  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 16, 2011, 11:40:53 PM
It would be handy to know if it's something someone else might do wrong, even if LC not involved. Plus schadenfreude is one of my favourite hobbies! Smiley

basically I tried creating a auto.desktop file which would execute my 4 miners in screen sessions.  However I could only get it to launch the first miner.  Therefore I abandon working on it and forgot to delete the file.  So when the computer would start it would start the miner automatically in a screen session I couldn't see.  Therefore, when i started up the miner in a root terminal it would only do half speed.  The good news is I was actually mining at full speed the whole time that I thought I was having a problem.

Still curious about people remote linuxcoin solutions.

Does anyone have an effective way at auto launching 4 miners at start up.  In a way that I can monitor them remotely.

Also, I saw someone mention how to essentially load balance between two pools, so that if a miner goes idle it will distribute the resources to the lower priority pool.  I have been searching and searching trying to find the info again, but I can't seem to find it.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about or where that post is located?

Hi!
Is anyone of you able to start mining remotely with NO monitor connected to the pc?
I have no problem starting it from within LinuxCoin. There I get nearly 290000 khash/s.
But it works neither with ssh nor vnc.

Does anyone run a headless mining rig and knows an answer??

Cheers,
Harm

I too would like to know the answer to this as I am going to be deploying an offsite miner and would love to have remote access to it.

Also, what is the best way to automatically start the miners on startup?

LinuxCoin and Radeon 6870's.....

looks like it's working well for the last 3 cards, but i'm having problems with the first one.

I've tried phoenix and poclbm

right out of the box and stock the 3 cards are doing 260mhps with BFI_INT VECTORS WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=12
If i set the first card to those flags it cranks the cpu to 100%.  This ends up reducing the performance of the other workers.
So I set the aggression down to 8 on the first card but now I can only get 150MHPS!!  What gives?
Currently I have to run the first card at 150mphs while the other 3 are running 260 completely stock.

I've tried all different flags, both kernels and the only way these cards do anything decent is with aggression=12
how can I run my primary card at aggression=12 without lagging the cpu?
I would love some advice on the issue, it may even be worth a tip, who knows.....

I figured it out.  And it had nothing to do with linuxcoin.  I was being a tard.  Therefore I'm not even going to post the details in order to spare people from getting them confused with significant details.

I am new to linux, where can I find this file... Huh

you can do this in windows with notepad.

just look at the main partition after you used unetbootin to extract the ISO to it.  that is where you will find that file.
385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 16, 2011, 01:22:45 AM
After I deleted the (only) partition on the USB drive in PM and opened the "create partition wizard" the USB drive was not in the list of drives, at the start of the wizard it is mentioned that not all drives are suitable for getting a partition created because 4 primary partitions already existed (I cannot remember exactly what it said, and the USB drive is in use now for mining) but it would not even show the device in the list, and therefore did not allow me to create a partition on it.

Hmm.. Interesting.. I really did think this would be helpful for some people.  I never used the wizard before.  I just deleted the partition.  Right clicked the thumb drive, new partition, set it up for fat32 and changed the size.  Then click the check box for apply.  Maybe it had compatibilities with your stick or maybe the wizard has a glitch.  Weird..

Oh well, hopefully someone will find it program as useful as I have.
386  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LinuxCoin A lightweight Debian based OS with everything ready to go. on: June 15, 2011, 06:41:44 PM
Well, Sir, Windows Disk manager does not allow you to delete a partition from a USB stick, however Partition Manager does.
However, Partition Manager is not able to create a new partition on the USB stick, but luckily Windows Disk Manager is.
But...
You can only create one single partition, and that is not what you need.

So although I appreciate the fact that you take the time to point out that people who do not get the partions on the USB stick working are not really worth it, you probably did not use the tools you mentioned yourself, other than GPARTED.

For any of you that are having trouble getting multiple partitions using Windows:
http://www.pendriveapps.com/bootice-partition-flash-drive-edit-boot-sector/
This tool works (up to 4 partitions).

You are welcome.  And you are quite mistaken.  Perhaps that is my fault for lacking details.  I actually did use Partition Manager.  I delete the partition which takes up the whole drive.  I then create one new fat32 partition big enough for the iso to fit on.  And I leave the rest blank and then follow the steps on the original post.  The one that says, if you are having a having difficulty with persistence follow this link.... It walks you right through how to create the second partition with persistence.  One thing it doesn't mention is having to reboot after creating the partition and creating the ext4 filesystem.  Perhaps there is a command u can use to avoid the reboot, but I am not familiar with it if it does exist.  Creating the second partition inside linuxcoin is the easiest way.  Partition manager will only help with the first partition.  You could optionally use gparted to create the second partition.

I'm not sure what you meant by Partition Manager is not able to create a new parition on the USB stick....  It absolutely can... just not ext4 partitions

I will be sending a donation for the efforts put into linuxcoin, anyway.  Truely a great build.  Needs a little fine tuning/documentation but can get anyone who HAS A CLUE up and running in minutes.

Other than that this is my 2nd linuxcoin rig.  first one is 4x 5830's.  Worked flawlessy in minutes (maybe an hour)
whoever says getting linuxcoin to run is hard, obviously is not even familiar enough with windows, so probably should dodge linux altogether.....
that is coming from an avid windows users and a linux novice.  what parts are you guys having so much trouble with.  An easy windows tool to delete the partition and make a small first partition is EASEUS Partition Manager.  It is completely free for home use.  GPARTED is also another great program, just boot from the disc and make your two partitions.

388  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (1.5Thash/s) on: June 13, 2011, 11:37:22 PM
My workers are currently connected to mining.bitcoin.cz.
I've added my ip address to the white list in my account settings.
am I good to go or do I need to switch servers as well?

If i do, that sucks, because I am stuck at work.
389  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fees, Long polling, SSL, JSON API, and more [~1500 gH/sec] on: June 13, 2011, 08:17:32 PM
never had so many miner is idle messages.... very disappointing considered I just switched two nights ago.  Apparently a shitload of other people did too, and I understand, but at this point 2% fee is more acceptable than losing work......

I am back to slush's till this gets worked out
390  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Problem with MT GOX.... on: June 12, 2011, 08:45:15 PM
MtGox is having some issues today. Buying and selling isn't really working right now. If you still have this issue once they have everything fixed up, you could always create another MtGox account. Move your bitcoins to that account to sell.

-SteveA

Yea I thought about that.

Wouldn't I get a .65% fee for the transfer though?
391  Economy / Marketplace / Problem with MT GOX.... on: June 12, 2011, 04:35:42 PM
[edit] [update] I resent an email to him and this time I received a response and ticket#.  This makes me feel better.  The helpdesk system must have been down the first time i tried.

So, I sent a personal friend some money from my mtgox account.  I sent him 100.00USD.  When I clicked send, my mouse/browser went haywire and clicked it more than once.

Even though I only had 100$ in my account, and my friend only accepted one transfer of $100.00, it's giving me a negative balance of $99.86.  How was it even possible it would let me send money I don't have.  Where is it, how can I cancel it?  I want to sell a couple coins, but I do not want it to go towards the negative balance.

I've already sent an email to mtgox and got no response.... (several days ago)
anyone else have something similar happen.

btw... I am not trolling, I love mt gox and bitcoins.  Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

I don't understand why so few people separates the cards as far as they can and why nobody change card orientation so fans don't get blocked by other cards.

Because I was in a hurry to get mining and now that i'm overclocked and mining 24/7 my temps are fine so, why bother with it?
393  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 11, 2011, 09:02:03 PM
Pretty good hack - I have the same motherboard coming in on Monday and was wondering how I'd mount 4 cards in the donationware case I salvaged.  What'd you use to cut the case apart?  Looks like yours is aluminium, but the one I'll be dealing with is steel.

Thank you, although I cannot take credit, my friend works at a steel shop, he easily cut it and smoothed it with a grinding disc.  I believe this case was 1/8" steel.  It use to be an old antec case.

Also I ordered like 4 different extenders from china off ebay for less than $20USD.  just search ebay for pcie 1x or 16x extender or riser although they are marked as shipped i do not know when they will be here.  usually stuff comes pretty fast from china, but who knows....

Hi everyone.
I was just paid out my first coin.  Thank you very much.  I'm mining about 1Ghps 24/7.  I am going to be adding 2 more miners which should approach a total of 4Ghps running 24/7.  Is Slush's the right pool for me?

How do I know if I'm on Pay Per Share or Proportional?  I don't see an option even after creating a new account.

Thanks in advance.

398  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Looking to buy before it's too late. on: June 05, 2011, 06:12:16 PM
I would take his offer.  That is very reasonable.  In fact i wish i would have had this offer yesterday.

I bought some mtgox usd via western union yesterday after realizing that dwolla is going to take forever, had to pay 5% to seller, and like 25.00 to western unions.  basically spent 210 bucks to get 10.xx bit coins.  So i spent about 21/coin hoping they keep going up.  Basically was 11 dollars per btc higher than i expected to pay on friday, but hey, that's life.  I just hope they keep going up, but even if they go down i'm not too worried I should have my mining rig up by tuesday or weds.

don't forget .65% fee for mtgox too.

cans someone explain the "expected average change in difficulty" and the "next difficulty starts in this many days" fields?

Thanks in advance.  What are realistic numbers to plug in here?
400  Other / Obsolete (selling) / FS: Wireless Routers 2 Linksys w/ DD-WRT 1 Netgear Stock firmware on: June 04, 2011, 09:31:44 PM
I have 3 Extra Routers

2 of which are: Linksys WRT54GS - Flashed with DD-WRT Firmware
One of them is missing the official linksys power adapter and has been replaced with an equivalent Netgear branded power adapter.

The 3rd router is a Netgear WGR614 v6 which is not capable of DD-WRT firmware

I know I am a new member. My only transaction on this board so far has been a purchase of mt gox usd from gusti.  Transaction went well.
I have a eBay account with plenty of positive feedback if that makes you feel better.  I can send you a message from my account upon request.

Open to offers
4 BTC shipped for the Linksys Routers
3 BTC shipped for the netgear.

Shipping to US only.

I also have for sale an Inspiron 9300 Laptop - Used to be pretty good for gaming.  Pretty outdated now, but would let it go for some BTC if someone is interested.  Pics upon request.
