Charlie Gasparino on Fox Business just said that various high-level bureaucrats at the SEC are shopping their resumes out looking for work in the private sector.  They *may* be "overworked" (LOL) because of the ETFs, etc.

Both he and host Liz Claman wonder of part of the recent price spike up might be (in part) due to there possibly having a wee bit less regulation coming if so.

ZeroHedge had an interesting article yesterday re the many, many bad problems in China.  The demographics and the debts & corruption are getting are very bad, and getting worse.  The most interesting part of the article to me was the last sentence (and I shorten and paraphrase):

"The rich in China may start moving into assets like gold, silver, art and Bitcoin"   <=== In order to avoid wholescale confiscations.

My take is, well yeah, OK, but it is already a bit hard for Chinese residents to buy BTC (I think it is now illegal again).  Gold (etc.) is difficult to get out of China (scanners at the airport, etc.).  So while the sentiment among the very-wealthy of China may be to get into off-grid assets, I have my doubts if those rich Chinese can massively affect BTC and gold prices...  If I am wrong, well gold may yet reach $5000 - $10,000 (per oz) and BTC reach $100,000 - $200,000 relatively quickly (higher?).

So, if China starts going down hard, and the rich start securing their assets as mentioned, then that is good news for HODLers!

For the first time I have seen TV ads for an upcoming (we hope anyway) Bitcoin ETF.  I saw three ads on two different channels just this morning (Bloomberg and Fox Business) from Bitwise. They seem very confident...

Previously the only ads I saw were for the Grayscale BTC trust.  <--- and their discount to BTC price is narrowing, meaning Wall Streeters likely think the SEC will approve.

Guys, quick Q:

What would you recommend as the best (polished, easy/intuitive UI, reliable) Lightning wallet? It should be able to run on either Android, or Windows (ideally on both, with synching between them).

Made a small payment on-chain y'day, with low fees, and it's still pending... Angry

I hope you can handle it on your PC so you can use "Electrum" is the best (I hope available PC and Phone).

But you can use only a phone and then "trustwallet" for more future and multi-currency.

it is just personal opinion, (right now fee is high all wallet).  Huh

You can try "BTC Transaction Accelerator". right now "Remaining hourly FREE transactions have vanished" you can try next hour it's workable.

Edite.

I didn't know Electrum can do Lightning... But I'm a total noob when it comes to Lightning...

Will look into it, thanks.

BTW, I've just used your ViaBTC Transaction Accelerator link, and it worked! I had to wait for the counter to reset to 100 free TXIDs, exactly on the hour. Nice service, bookmarked.

Thanks for that too. Merited.

Ugh.  Electrum CAN do lightning.  But do not start there.  It's complicated and kludgey (Still such a great on chain wallet).

Non Custodial: Breez
Custodial: Wallet of Satoshi
Coming soon: Green

I mention WoS just because it is the drop dead easiest, best working wallet available.  But custodial wallets run an ever increasing risk of getting frozen by regulators.

I feel like Breez works the best for the non-custodial wallets, but it requires a little patience up front.

Green should get interesting as they are a very easy to use wallet and are JUST rolling out lightning.

I like the Green Wallet, and thanks for letting us know they are working on Lightning.  Green allows RBF and Coin Control.

With the extremely high fees, the time is coming when I need to learn how to use Lightning.

I don't want to spend $40 to consolidate here.  I guess I'll just have to wait.  And wait & wait & wait???

Maybe only a much higher BTC price will stop those ords from infesting the mempool....

Two things irking me but good today:

1)  mempool.space now showing me almost $39.00 as next block's median fee.   Angry

2)  It took me some 10 times for the captcha to let me in here...   Angry

Best Buy (USA & Canada) now show arrival/pickup (at their stores) date of Trezor Model T on Dec 13.  This date keeps being pushed back, I would not be surprised to see it unavailable before Christmas.

Also, the Black Friday price is no longer in effect, price is now the usual $219.

Richy-T: 655335:

Yes, but to get back to 1BTC:1kg Au (at earlier today $2140) we would need to be at some BTC @ $68,000+.  Gold was priced a lot lower when BTC first passed 1 kg, that does hint that BTC has more room to run up than gold.

Another step up the ladder we go. I’ve now had multiple people ask me about whether or not they should cash out their retirement and put it all into Bitcoin. This is usually a sign of a top but it’s definitely a sign that people who watch Bitcoin are starting to get fomo. With so much good news in the pipeline things may stay exciting for a while.

You know alot of stupid people.

Do you ask them why they didn't already do that?

Here are some real merits

And here are some thoughts on Giants and "Number Go Up"

One characteristic of Giants is that sometimes they buy certain classes of assets at what seem to be very high prices.  All kinds of interesting stuff.  Below is one case, who buys this stuff?  $91,000,000??

https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/feb/04/wow-91m-jeff-koons-blow-up-dogs-record-prices-paris-oxford

Giants, defined in a certain way, have so much money (as well as more money coming in), that the LAST thing they need are more businesses, generating more CA$H.  It's almost a problem.  So what do some of them do?  They buy a Store of Value that they like and have confidence in.  The Koons Balloon Dog was bought by a Giant.  I presume he liked it, wanted it.  It's not generating income.  But as a Store of Value, it just could be that the owner could sell that Dog if he wanted..., to whom?  Another Giant.

Once a Giant has, say, 5 castles in Europe, do they want more?  Look, the Rothschilds have been GIVING away castles & palaces in recent years.  The Marginal Utility of another palace is NEGATIVE for them now.  Another example would be high-end car collectors, at some point it becomes more of a pain-in-the-butt collecting evermore Mercedes, Lambos..  There are several assets (perhaps better said: asset classes) that work a little better than others for Giants.  One clue: for some (most?) of these assets, as the price goes up, they are harder to find/buy.  Hmm.

Bitcoin behaves a little differently from typical assets owned by the Giants.  I'm still trying to figure this one out (where BTC falls on the spectrum of desired assets of Giants).  It does look like the Marginal Utility of owning more BTC declines slowly though, VERY typical of assets wanted by the Giants.  Let's see if this scarcity notion of most Giants' Assets holds in the case of BTC.  Perhaps rather than becoming physically more scarce, the BTC price increases might just be more dramatic than usual if/when the BIG $$$ start to flow in.  "Number Go Up even more Bigly."  But, like I wrote, Bitcoin may not follow the other assets I try to track.  It's a New Asset, really a new asset class.  And it is risky IMO, as .gov seems to hate it.

"Following in the footsteps of Giants" may require some out-of-the-box thinking.  But, almost everyone who buys Bitcoin is at least part way there.  We recognize value (and at least the idea, even if unspoken, of Marginal Utility).  Following in their footsteps, fortunately, usually does not require HUGE INVESTMENTS, perhaps being alert and having creative thinking.

I am extremely interested (and have been for years) in following BTC's price movements and acceptance in the years to come.  We will just have to see.

"We watch together, no?"

JJG wrote (a comment at the bottom of a lot of text) a few pages back (reply 655021 on WO page 32752):

At this rate, I have my doubts that Saylor is even going to stop at 210k BTC, even though that would be a nice round number of BTC to have and maybe even to maintain.. so if he goes beyond 210k BTC, then he could keep buying more but then saying that he and/or his company will never go below 210k BTC... so then after getting above that number he could declare that he has enough.. but Saylor no does not think like a normal person.. so probably he will not be able to stop accumulating and amassing more and more bitcoin."

THAT, amigo mio, is someone who Thinks Like A Giant.  "Giants" typically think differently.  Also, many Giants know what they're doing, and they do what they want (eg Elon Musk).  Finally, it is often smart to "follow in the footsteps of Giants."  It's a good way to think and make money in the longer term, think Generational Wealth.

I'll not mention where such Giant thinking is discussed at more length as it is not BTC-related.
32  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How to buy a nano ledger s plus case anonymously? on: November 30, 2023, 05:03:23 PM
In addition to what has been mentioned above, maybe you can use a package forwarding company. It might cost you slightly extra but at least, the seller won't know your actual address. Or just try to find a physical shop that sells them.

Best Buy (USA and Canada) sells the Ledger cases for Ledger S Plus and Ledger X.  You can pay cash.

EDIT: Or you can use a Ziploc baggie........

BestBuy is now listing Trezor Model 1 and Model T to arrive for pickup at Best Buy stores (USA and Canada) for Dec 6.  Been pushed back a few days.  It would not surprise me if it is delayed some more.  As of now (Nov 29), BB still lists Model T at $153.

Being able to buy a Trezor for cash at a store is a good thing.  I hope that Trezor has good luck in selling their devices at Best Buys.

I just checked Best Buy's website, and it looks like the Trezor Model T and Model 1 will not be available for purchase and pickup at their stores (USA) until Dec 2.  Whether or not the Black Friday sales price of $153 (Model T) will remain in effect or not, well, I don't know.

bestbuy.com

If you have to buy a HW for cheap right now, you can always get a Ledger S+ which last I saw are in stock.

Just now I saw that arrival of Trezor Model T and Model 1 are now scheduled on Dec 2 at Best Buy, at least the nearest store to me.  Since that may be beyond the Black Friday sales timeframe, I don't know if the attractive $153 price will still be valid.

bestbuy.com

As dkbit98 wrote last page, it will be an excellent thing to have the option to buy hardware wallets for cash.
36  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Black Friday Hardware Wallet Less Known Deals on: November 21, 2023, 03:32:36 AM

Trezor's website (at "Resellers") just shows that Best Buy in the USA is now an authorized reseller of the Model 1 and the Model T, the latter's price at Bust Buy is $153 and change, so it looks like they are a participant in the Black Friday sale as well.  But, not the new Trezor 3 Safe.

bestbuy.com  (search for Trezor)

Best Buy appears not to have them in stock right now, but the two stores I "visited" on the web showed delivery/pickup at the store for Nov 25, and it looks like you can order now.  The Model 1 is also available, and it is priced lower than the Ledger Nano S+ (which already IS in stock at Best Buy, I have seen them there -- in the showcases where they sell memory chips).

With luck Trezors will soon become regular stock items at Best Buy (as is the Ledger Nano S+ currently is).  You can pay by cash or card at Best Buy.

Re the Trezor Black Friday sales event, it looks like Best Buy in the USA is a part of the deal as well.

bestbuy.com  <== Search for "Trezor"

It appears that they are not in stock just yet, the website for each store says pickup at store about Nov 25 (I guess you can order now).  Perhaps that means it will become a normally stocked item soon?  Trezor's website ("Resellers") notes that Best Buy is now an authorized reseller of Trezor Model T and Model 1 (though not the new one).  The Trezor T costs a bit over $153, pretty much the same as the Model T at Trezor's own site.

The Ledger Nano S+ is there in stock at Best Buy for anyone who wants one...

Maybe a demand shock coming from Argentina now, Dude!

Argentina already has a pretty thriving BTC scene, but it may get very popular now that a FOB (Friend Of Bitcoin) will soon be the new Main Man there.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to buy Bitcoin in the Czech Republic? on: November 20, 2023, 12:12:51 AM

coinatmradar.com shows a lot of BTC ATMs in Prague, and a few scattered around the Czech Republic.  I believe you can buy BTC from some tellers (usually forex places) as well.  Take a look:

https://coinatmradar.com/

Zoom in on the their worldwide map to Czechia.  Limit without nosy verification is some 1000 euros.  I think they all accept Czech Corunas, perhaps euros as well.

EDIT:  I just saw the last of your note saying you don't want to use BTMs, sorry for not noticing that.

"Given the substantial amount I am looking to invest in Bitcoin, it would be grossly inefficient and so pretty much pointless to use a Bitcoin ATM (which is a pity, as there are tons of them all over Prague). To my mind, the only option which is appropriately secure and viable for me is to send funds from my Czech bank account to a suitable Czech-friendly cryptocurrency exchange. So any advice in that direction?"

Maybe at some of the tellers (which you can see at coinatmradar?)

Libertarian Javier Milei just won the presidential election in Argentina.

That is good for Bitcoin as he is favorable to BTC.  Maybe that's why the price just ran up $400...?

Wow...a major country President who is into bitcoin?

I'm trying to find more details, but, yes I believe so.

EDIT:  Yes he is pro-BTC, but as I am using a VPN now at ya from Italy, all the links are in Italian, but with all the results I just got, it should be easy to read further details.
