23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: True distribution: limit hashing power to (for example) 1TH/s per IP address on: October 08, 2014, 01:35:46 PM
It's funny to see people thinking up ridiculous ideas, just to try to solve PoW weaknesses, instead of just fade out PoW and use a better solution that already exists in many other eco-systems.

If you limit to IP address, then web hosting company will all become part time miners, since they own millions of IP address per company. This actually hurts the individual miner, because residential broadband in many countries, will give one IP address per hundreds of residential clients. Most college dorms also do the same thing.

Actually the CONCEPT of limiting to IP4 addresses is very sound.  IP4 addresses are harder to get (legally) then you think.  But there are enough problems where it will not work.

1) Botnets win here.  Botnets get IP4 addresses for free.
2) The protection needs to be in the protocol, not in the pools.  If the protection is at the pool level rouge pools will sidestep the restriction and make it pointless.
3) Putting it at the protocol level means you can only limit blocks per IP address and a paid relaying system would form causing more harm then good.
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Number of Bitcoin Users vs. World Population, to scale on: September 28, 2014, 02:26:41 PM
Could we have a similar image showing also the internet users in 1996 and in, say, 2012?
It would have to be before 1996.  There were 36 million internet users in 1996.  Maybe the internet in 1990.  I used the internet in the 80's.

Willing to pay $150 AT&T  or $170 unlocked (more than Gazelle) via BTC or Paypal.

Long time buyer and seller here, I will not pay first unless it is Paypal.  iPhone MUST not have iTunes account lock on it.  It MUST be activatable on AT&T and not blacklisted.  USA.  I may be interested in more than one phone.

My grandfather worked in the bitcoin mines during the Depression. Have you ever seen what ion lung does to a man? It's not pretty.

I bet that is caused by dust transactions. A Satoshi is very small and can get lodged deep in the lungs.
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It costs $0.09 cents to send $0.24 cents of Bitcoin? Really? on: August 19, 2014, 01:37:02 AM
Is it something else?

Yes its the dumb ass like you dont understand the economic of bitcoin infrastructure. You can send btc with any amount as a fee. But that tx will not be confirmed for a very long time.

Micro payments are all relative. 25cents are way too small and unrealistic.

Its not a problem for blockchain to fix but its a service for a 3rd party.

if mining pools would simply accept the fact that they are rewarded with 25btc right now for their work and that extra fee's are something only needed in atleast 2 decades time and not now. then YOU will realise that the fee is not needed right now. and are given/ required, purely for greedy purposes

then in the uptopian dream of zero greed, bitcoin can be used for microtransactions without a large cut.

if mining pools would simply just accept transactions into blocks instead of ignoring them all the time, there would be no issues.

i personally have a client thats in the advertising business and would love to be able to send amounts of under 20c to people as often as he liked, rather then having to set monthly payouts or minimal account balance before payout.. he thought bitcoin was the solution.. yet the tx fee due to mining pool greed is the cause of why he wont get involved in bitcoin

People suck.

If there is ZERO fee then some people will send spam transactions and fill the network with junk as a DOS attack.  The fee does serve a purpose.

One evil (a working network) vs another (a small 9 cent fee).  Choices.

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Karpeles Auctions off Bitcoins.com on: July 23, 2014, 02:05:55 PM
If he took the proceeds from the auction, put it in bitcoin and hodl'd for a year, then he could pay everyone back maybe

Bitcoin's price would need to grow 1,000 times in a year. And even if it were possible, it would only be in fiat terms. Someone who lost 1 BTC would only be awarded $600, not the $600,000 that they actually deserve.
Good point.  Does anyone know if Mt Gox have to reimburse creditors in terms of Bitcoin or fiat?

You forgot the third option:  Nothing.

It technically should be fiat but will that really happen?
34  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysian Plane 'Shot Down With 295 On Board' in UKRAINE on: July 17, 2014, 08:03:15 PM
All lies.  The Russian seps claimed responsibility for it, they thought it was an an-26 now they are in full cover up mode.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?hl=en&q=cache%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fvk.com%2Fwall-57424472_7256

They never did. Besides, to shoot down a plane at 10000km, you need to see it. The resistance don't have Buks. Capturing a Buk is not enough to use it - you need a thorough education on its usage.

...The Spanish controller also reported that the Ukrainian military shot down the plane, though it is still not clear who gave the order

Sorry but with the equipment they captured last week and tweeted about they could have.  Protip: they did not check what kind of plane it was, they just fired
35  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysian Plane 'Shot Down With 295 On Board' in UKRAINE on: July 17, 2014, 07:50:58 PM

Watching direct news from Donetsk. They deny any responsibility and they maintain that they don't have weaponry to reach above 4000m.

One of the versions is that the plane should have fallen on Russian territory, so as to fully blame Russia.

A Spanish flight controller, who works in Kiev, twitted that before the crash, he saw on the radar two Ukrainian jets shadowing the airliner.

Donetsk' leader, Boroday, said that the freedom fighters agree to a 2-day seize-fire in military activities to clean after the disaster.

All lies.  The Russian seps claimed responsibility for it, they thought it was an an-26 now they are in full cover up mode.

37  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: FS: Bitmain Antminer S1s - $110 Allentown, PA on: July 09, 2014, 11:00:41 PM
At this point I am so happy to find someone selling S1 at a reasonable price.

I IMPLORE you to ship one to the UK for me.
I'll give you 0.2 BTC (126$) for one of them shipped - I really want one of these and I'm practically begging to find one because of ridiculous ebay prices.
That's 16$ over what you asked for!
If you don't include a PSU that's fine, all I'd like is the cables please.

Please consider this, really , I am offering above your price, I just want one of these really badly.
Happy to escrow!

Thank you.

Shipping this from the US to the UK is going to be like $80 or so.  I am not the OP.   So really $200.  It is best to find a local seller in the UK even if they ask for $150.

Every time a new business accepts Bitcoin, the community cheers. But they should be sober. Because all those Bitcoins are converted straight into dollars, driving the Bitcoin value down.

I think that we are waiting for the next phase. This is a necessary phase where people are adopting receiving bitcoin but have no use for it and so convert it straight to dollars. But the phase will come, once bitcoin is more widely accepted, where the bitcoin received will be kept and used as bitcoin - and this is when we will see the value of bitcoin go up.

I have said this all along, we now need B2B business payments to scale up.  Suppliers in China being paid with BTC.
