202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEW POLL: Should newbs and Jr. members be barred from creating ALT ANN threads ? on: June 14, 2014, 04:34:38 PM
Absolutely without any doubt whatsoever this is a yes, but you cant silence them altogether becuase otherwise the amount of trolling/spamming will increase dramatically, as the bad eggs build accounts.

Whatever anyone says, it is too easy currently for scammers to go through the motions of churning out p&d shitcoins from new accounts named after those coins. Some have become very good at it - personally i dont believe there are that many scammers producing all of them.

A super-shitcoin thread will solve many of the problems but there will be exploitations to it. The onus should be on newbies with ideas to convince established members of the community to endorse their projects, posting an ANN on behalf of the project and in so doing staking their reputation.

Moreover - anyone found to be throwing out a premine pump and dump should have their IP permanently blacklisted (you should be able to find them by searching for ANN's started by inactive accounts), obviously they can use proxy/get a new one but anything which makes their lives harder is a step in the right direction as far as I see it.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 13, 2014, 01:33:11 AM
2300 trees and 2.2 megatons eh? My simple mind figures the amount of CO2 captured by a tree cannot be more than the amount of dry weight in a tree. 100 ton trees sound awfully big.

Dry weight of the tree is the carbon element of the CO2, so carbon dioxide offset is something like a multiple of 3 different from dry weight. Doesn't make you any less right though, very well spotted!

I invited scrutiny of the figures very early on in this but you are the first to notice. The 2300 trees are planted regardless of what anyone says and the land and planning for the other >>1 million trees between the UK and the US sites are also for real and disclosed.

Somewhere in our haste putting up the website and subsequently linking on the thread, after we took on the challenge, it appears an M has been used instead of K on the website and therefore the slides, and this has subsequently not been flagged until now, so thank you! We have a new website on the way and this mistake will be remedied as a matter of urgency. Possible also could be a failure to convert between kg and tons.

Once our initial calculations had been made and the results displayed, it was not necessary to do any further calculations, or further scrutinise those we had done until we had raised funds to plant further saplings, which has been a much slower process than we had hoped, as I am sure you have seen.

Our calculation of one metric ton of CO2 for one tree on average stands, this is based on proportionate analysis of trees planted to the spacing recommended by the UK forestry commission, and the number of those trees which will reach full maturity from those planted. This is actually a low ball estimate on purpose so that we can ensure that we are doing what we say we are in terms of having positive environmental impact. Dry weight of hardwoods left to grow to permanent forestry is often more than 1 tonne, and this does not include the carbon which remains in the soil from decomposed leaves.

We are still very much Carbon positive, if you run the calculations up until now. Thank you for raising this, if you spot any other slip ups please dont hesitate to mention them as soon as they emerge! It is no surprise that we were met with such skepticism - although very surprising no one else mentioned this sooner, given the numerous other objections I have had to address since starting this thread months ago.

Let's think about this rationally given that we are both speaking english, take the definition of dim and add http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-y either "1" or "3" as you wish. The fact that you need to ask is wonderfully self reflexive.

You can keep coming back if you like Dimmy but you are going to have an awful job shaking your nickname if you continue down this path. What exactly is it you do again? Only I don't think you have ever let the community know.

Under 500 blocks to go until our block halves for the second time and we enter the final phase of public mining. After that the only way to get hold of coins will be through purchase, or to earn them. Don't anyone say I didn't warn you Smiley

I dont think LeafCoin was a scam either, just a basic no frills coin that didnt really take off.

Hows the wallet coming along?

Steadily making progress, some of the nuances of the lates bitcoin protocol upgrade are taking a bit of work to get right. We are getting there and hopefully will be good to go by the end of the weekend Smiley In the meantime https://www.coinwallet.co/ is the perfect solution to anyone wanting to store some coins off exchange
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2014, 01:37:04 PM
sorry to say the logo of carbon coin looks like a leaf. You could call it leafcoin - but we already had a scamcoin called leafcoin.

It's a C with a leaf in it Smiley I'm not sure leafcoin was a scam, although it did get pumped extremely high. The developer is still active I believe. Our main plus is how energy efficient we will be at the end of our mining phase, in around 2 months.

Our branding is a result of a community held rebranding competition, whether or not there has been a leafcoin doesn't make the leaf any less of a good symbol of environmental ideals.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2014, 12:01:07 PM

The problem with scammers is everything to them is a scam. In their eyes there are no good people left in the world, no good motives, and everything good has an ulterior motive. Sad...

I'm not saying anything about whether or not Spoetnik is a scammer (although an anonymous person crying scam on the grounds of anonymity is a bit rich) however, what I am definitely saying is that he is barking up the wrong tree calling this a scam, as time will demonstrate to him.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2014, 10:19:39 AM
The charitable trust is formed with objects not limited to planting trees, a legal entity with named trustees to be registered with the charity commission at the appropriate time

PoW is the fairest distribution for a coin and with the correct criteria is the most stable transaction system

Our final update will make us more efficient that PoS

No charitable funds are a result of any premine, only donated from the community - there are no enforced capital controls here so we are a currency

If I was going to take part in a scam I would be putting out numerous arbitrary white lables of existing but "new technology" protocols then cashing out, rinse, repeat. There are many out there. Much more efficient way of just stealing BTC dont you think?

You're not smart by any stretch of the imagination, you're just a skeptic - and if the values that you purport to hold dear were done so with any backbone you'd be giving your attention to the many far more questionable operations peppering the Announcements section

Add: Funny that a reputable dictionary service would make so many glaring omissions...
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2014, 09:37:37 AM

Good progress being made on the code and the new site. Also facebook now under construction, to be linked with twitter. Our PR campaign is also starting to take shape, with our social media manager. Noticed a few imitations are starting to spring up - so this must have been a good idea Smiley

ADD: Hanoosh you have done a great thing. Let us know if you ever join the reddit community, it will be waiting for you

Check out Carboncoin - tree planting and other sequestration-lead carbon offsetting initiatives underway.

The original green coin. Started eco-movement 3 months ago.

New technology to make coin most efficient out there specified and coming in a few months.

Currency is currently minable but not for long. All charitable funds have been donated by the community enabling us to continue primarily as a currency while allowing a significant proportion of the value generated to be spent supporting nature and the environment.

Come check it out and get involved. Everyone warmly welcomed
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CARBONCOIN - The first carbon offsetting cryptocurrency on: June 11, 2014, 08:35:21 AM

there is no market with any buy orders so.... atm it's going no where.  but I have faith in the Dev that they will stick to their plans and try their best to make something of this coin
Keep up to date with us here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=526031 and have a look at coined up

Oh my goodness! Thank you!!!

The funds have actually arrived - I had to pinch myself Smiley Actually the most enormous show of generosity!

Hanoosh you are a hero!

10/06/2014 =  Hanoosh day! Smiley We'll be being super generous on this day in years to come.

Carboncoin and The Carboncoin Trust now have over 3.5% of the total circulation of the coins ever devoted to the environment and lowering the concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere, and none of those coins the result of any premine.

Hold tight for the responsible coin release whitepaper. In the meantime - no coins are to be released from the wallet below 10 satoshis, and if you want to do anything to help out for a bounty be sure to get in touch.

As of yesterday our github repo belongs to carboncointrust, now an organisation on github, just if anyone wants to come and help code.

What a thing

I would like to Donate 500,000,000 CARB , Please let me know the Donations Addr, also what is the latest wallet version as i didn't check my wallet around 1 month.

Wow! That would be an incredible gesture!

The Environmental Donations Address is LFsTe6yRk1TXuGGW6kKwG8L3N4pkx5b6Do where the majority of funds should go, we also have two other donations wallets. One for our real world distribution initiatives L3bMcFGLRmSSoZeeBm8PnaVkPCuHngXdWW and one for funding Development projects LHFVyEEG7sHf9Vkn2YCFbiK7mf4FYSETGz.

The latest version of the wallet is on the front page of this thread under "winwallet" but we will be releasing another upgrade within 1 week so best to wait until then.

I will reply to your message now

Best

Thanks guys. Deadline for buying saplings this year is the early Autumn. Several big pushes planned between now and then to try to get a half decent number of trees planted out this year.

We should be up to full scale operations in time to see something substantial in time for next year. I am looking forward to funding some research through the charity also, into the construction and stimulation of natural carbon sink ecosystems, so we can then go out and build them.

I think in light of the fact that we are far more than just carbon neutral even now as an ordinary PoW coin, and even moreso when we become the most energy efficient coin out there in a few months time, when mining finishes, we should consider changing our strap from "The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency" To something like "The Currency Restoring the Carbon Cycle", what does everyone think?
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 08, 2014, 08:34:05 AM
I don't even think the picture on the main page is real.  It looks edited.

Poor Dimmy, stil struggling with that basic cognitive function I see, and this time it's your observation skills letting you down yet again. What about the 20 or so other photographs which are posted later on in the thread?

Have you really no friends at all to spend time with? Bless. Well do feel free to keep coming back here for as long as you feel you need to. Everyone needs some attention sometimes, it is only natural. One wonders why you are failing to get the acknowledgement you need from your day to day life.

The continued progress we are making is actually trolling you isn't it? What a nice little bonus motivator that is for everyone.
219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 08, 2014, 08:17:01 AM
If you still are looking for someone to run the facebook page let me know. I think everyone will be pleased with what I have to offer.

Hi! Definitely interested in someone running the facebook page will send you a pm, the bounty is still available as yet
220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: June 07, 2014, 11:50:55 AM
my bad i forgot it was mLTC and not LTC.  Coin still sucks though.  Coined up is a piece of shit exchange that has ads for kiddie games, I guess thats who the average carb trader is.

jeez you really dont give up, guess we all get a laugh though

They all laughed at bitcoin for the first few months too. Dont feed the trolls.

I can say pets.com as a counter example.  Naming one time something worked proves nothing.

Litecoin.

Pets.com? Wow that's such a good analogy I see just so many obvious comparables... I think I may have overstated your intellect with my previous rebuttal. Why don't we just pick something unrelated and arbitrary which we know has been a success a few months after it's creation *as a counter example* and continue this winning conversation. OR not.

Come on Dimmy, at least make this entertaining if you are going to persist. You are of course welcome to fade away at any point.
