still trying to set mine up, it wont connect to my raspberry pi's ethernet bridge (but my laptop and other devices will...)
I dont have access to a router in the area the miner needs to be so I need to find some solution to running it wirelessly.

The packaging of the device, however- was really nice

Get a wireless dongle. I'm just wondering which dongle to get at the moment. (Spondolies-Tech, any recommendations?)

you mean a wireless usb dongle to plug directly into the miner itself? I have one but I'm not sure how to set it up

Welp, I see the problem now. You haven't managed to login to it, right?

Yep. Plug it in the USB port on it, and go to the settings page and click WiFi networks.

Anyone got it working with a wifi dongle? I'm looking to free up some wires.

And here's my preliminary review, thanks again Spondoolies! I'll add more stuff to it as I keep on playing with it.
207  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Review 3] A Spondolies SP20 review on: December 16, 2014, 11:09:37 PM
Disclosure: Spondolies Tech was very kind to send me a SP20 miner as per their Legendary Review review thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=887807.0

The obligatory background story: I'm a long-time bitcoin user since 2011. I first came across bitcoin and CPU-mined a block around 2010, but sadly I did not back the drive up. I've been a part time miner since then, starting up with GPU's and slowly upgrading to FPGA's and an Avalon. I have stopped mining for over a year due to my relocation and being generally super busy with everything else.

The review:

Shipping:
The miner was shipped extremely fast via Fedex from Israel to US. In total, it took 3 days including a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was at the door early morning on Monday.  Grin

The package was extremely well thought out and designed, and I could not feel any give in even after trying to sit on it.

Shown is the paper box housing it came in:

Setting up:

I bought two CX750 PSU's in anticipation of the miner. Setting up was straightforward - a paper clip was inserted in the green wire and a black wire respectively. (shoutout to Dogie for his extremely concise website here: http://www.dogiecoin.com/spondooliestech-sp20.html) Two cables of each PSU were connected to the miner, and powering up was effortless.

PSU's that I used:

The actual setting up took much more time on my part as I was trying to get it to connect to a large workspace network. For regular users with a limited number of devices on their network, opening myminer.io on any browser would work instantaneously. With the help of Spondolies-Tech (Guy), wh00per and the others, I managed to get it online.

Procedures for situation like this:

1 ) Get wireshark installed in your computer.
2 ) Connect the miner directly via ethernet cable to the computer.
3 ) Set up monitoring on the ethernet port using wireshark.
4 ) You'll get the DHCP requests from the miner unit as it tries to go online.
5 ) Write down the MAC address.
6 ) Whitelist the MAC address on your network.
7 ) Connect the miner directly to the network.
8 ) Using AngryIP scanner, try to determine the actual IP of the device. (I skipped this as I have access to the admin page showing the IP of the miner)
9 ) Fire up a browser while on the same network and go to http://(the ip address).
10 ) If it works, you'll be presented with a login screen. (user/pass:admin)

The mining:

It is really straightforward after you manage to connect to it. Just input your pool settings and you're good to go.

The miner stats after some time:

ASIC Stats:

The noise level is quite high - the decibel tool on my phone gives me around 80dB.

After running continuously for almost 24 hours, I'm happy to say that everything went well, although initially I had a few crashes (complete crash needing a power cycle) that I suspect was due to high temperatures in the box killing the control unit. I've since placed it somewhere cold, and it has been mining happily since.

Update: It's been running continuously for almost two days straight. No reboots/power cycle was required. It's been a dream.

Cheers,
John

PS: I'll add stuff to this as I keep on playing with it.
208  Economy / Lending / Re: $150 Loan Request - 48 hours on: December 16, 2014, 05:38:12 PM
I'm requesting a $150 loan.

Collateral: Source code to secure messaging platform in PHP ( link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=892731.0 )
Loan period: 48 hours
Repayment: 120% ($180 repayed)
BTC address: 1KqmAynMxpYzxoZjTQzMzmh96cMktChGYv

Can you provide a valid collateral ? I think the source code of your platform does not worth $150 .

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've gotten offers to purchase source code upwords of $200, however, I need this loan so I can make this project public for everyone to use.

Have the people offering you the price give you the loan then as they're clearly valuating this more then most of us here.
209  Economy / Goods / Re: Land for sale 1/4 Acre Australia Brisbane on: December 16, 2014, 05:01:54 PM
looking for interest still, all other interested parties didnt reply or vanished...
So if interested PM me or POST here.

Can you drop me the location/price in PM too? Also, what's the rules about foreigners owning land in Australia again?

My Sp 20 is disconnecting/ stopping mining for no reason. I have 1300PSU platinum going and it keeps knocking itself offline. The fan is still running so the only way I can tell is when I log into it, which I can't do at that point. I log into my stats page on eligius and I can see I am zero hashing. If I reboot PSU then it comes back on. Seems to be happening between every 4 and 24 hours. Is anyone else having this issue?
I have reset to factory and now trying to run. we will see how this goes.

lower your watts setting to 250 and drop the  all the volts by .005

you are taxing the psu.

My seasonic  1200 strains to run this  and I have to use lower settings then my evga 1300's

PS: I'm running mine on a pair of CX750's though and have been having this issue too... any suggestions/advice? Cheesy

well my thread has tests for 5 sp20's  they are more like 1400 to 1500gh.

Unless you can stand the noise and have really cold air. Since all 5 are in my garage directly under my bedroom. I have no choice but to do massive under clocking.
1350gh

I can say that these are not a 1700gh miner do -10%

which is  1530gh  work from there.

Yep, been running all night long at a consistent 1595.15GH/s all night long (number never changed I think) with ambient temps of around 3*C.

Exactly what I was having for a few times today. Is it running hot? I moved it to somewhere cold, and it hasn't crashed yet. *touches wood*

In garage. 30 degrees in there. Its not hot to the touch at all. psu wires not hot. I just reset to factory. maybe this will do it. time will tell.
What is the temperature shown in the Asic stat page? i had it in somewhere around 27*C, and it crashed afterwards. It's at somewhere 5*C now, still going with the stats in my last post above.

here's what I have. Why are some in yellow?

The max temps are 125*C for each of them. Once it hits 120*C I think they start to throttle themselves. According to what I've read, try keeping them at < 115*C for them to run more stably. I'm suspecting that the high temps in there might've caused the controller board to freeze somehow.

Max spec temps are 125C, max 'mining' temps are 120C, anything below that it considers there's more headroom and will try to push up clocks + voltages within the voltage and power ranges set.

Temperatures in ST gear look hotter than the competition due to the location of the temp sensor, but max temps are all in the same ballpark (100-130C).

It's doing a consistent 85*C across the board (with the exception of one, which is 115*C, and has never crashed since. I can safely deduce that it's probably due to the hot temps that caused its crashes yesterday. Cheesy  The box is cold to the touch though.

Well I just got mine today so I am still tinkering with it. This is my first SP miner, and so far I am impressed!

Agreed, it's a vast improvement over those Avalon/FPGA's/GPU's I've mined on in the past. If this stays constant for a night, I'll be really happy.

*john looks at his sole module running at 120*C*

I swear when I get the time (probably tomorrow or the day after) I'm taking this apart and checking out what's wrong with that specific module. Everything else is running at 85*C ffs.

Mine does the exact same thing...is yours 7: DC2DC/1/ (on LOOP 3)?

Mine is 3 on Loop[1]. I had problems with the Loop1 and Loop3 modules running hotter then the Loop 0 and Loop 2 modules. (like the pic posted by Helnick above) I was able to counter this by setting the initial voltage lower for both of them, and putting the entire hashing unit somewhere really cold. LOOP[1] 3 does not improve much though. I suspect it's because the way Loop1 and Loop3 modules were placed inside the box.

You go to the settings page and edit there: Start Volts Unit 1(0.58-0.80) etc..

And the max voltage too.

PS: it's in advanced voltage settings. If you want to stick with basic voltage settings, set it down 1 notch of whatever you were setting it before.

I made some units to log the data out somewhere and I just monitor the logs.

here's how I get to the data:
https://github.com/wh00per/SPT-Historian/tree/master/SP30

Here's how it looks:
http://powerprice.info/SPT/graphic.php

By default you can extract a JSON out of the unit by browsing to the http://<miner's IP address>/monitor.php
IMHO it's too much cgminer there and absolutely no power-related data ... but heh it's good because it's persistent after reboot.

Thanks! I'll look into implementing it after I free up some time. Now if only it supported SSH over the internet...
