204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 24, 2023, 01:22:52 PM
ive checked my old mining pool payout addys from back in my gpu btc mining days. the feeling is like ouch in one way but in another way to look at it is if no one had actually used btc back in the day it would be worthless now. someone has to prove its worth. even now.

so yeah all that would be nice now but the ride at the time was well worth it. no regerts

no matter what the past, as long as the future includes stacking sats its all good.
205  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 23, 2023, 11:57:39 PM

206  Other / Meta / Re: Do discussions always have to be serious? on: September 23, 2023, 12:45:59 AM
I already said that I don't mind my post being deleted. I have no problem regarding that. Understand?

I'm talking about a little humor. Nothing says meme here. So in your opinion, the discussion here should be serious? Right?

joke in addition to an on topic paragraph is fun

a joke instead of an on topic paragraph is spam and delete worthy
207  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 22, 2023, 02:55:57 PM
I received the email today confirming the mtgox rumor going around that they will not be distributing any BTC until October of 2024. This is good news for people who were worried about a crash incoming as it kicks this downward pressure down the road a bit. I suspect by then we’ll have an ETF and prices will already be on the way up.

got the email too. not exactly they said - those whose payment info is good could get payouts as early as the end of this (2023) year. for those whose info could not be verified the repayment period will be stretched out to october 2024.

this is at least better than holding everyone who does have good info in the system up, which is what they have been doing.

but i will believe that when i have the coin in my own wallet.

210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Repayment Deadline Increased for the MT Gox Exchange’s Creditors on: September 21, 2023, 01:17:18 PM
those who want cash instead of btc/bch can have mtgox do that conversion automatically and sent to a bank account. so those left must want the btc and bch directly.

of that, i would expect many/most keep the btc but sell the bch, prolly into btc.

well thats my plan anyway.

so a btc selloff once we get some coin back seems unlikely.

i thought it [animated avatars no longer allowed] was because the board got hacked via an animated avatar exploit back in the day (like ~2011-15?) but cant find anything with a quick search.
I don't know what the facts are. I wasn't even registered here when all that went on but I've stumbled on some monikers with animated avatars here. Some of the users who still have them are enter no longer using those accounts for whatsoever reasons or the owners are deceased. By the way, between your thought that it was stopped because it enabled "the board" (whatsoever that means) to be hacked and that loading it on the site takes enough of forum time, I think I would go with the second explanation.

board = forum.. a hold term over from bulletin board systems from the dial up modem days

anyway, found it.. check quotes from 02 oct 2013 by @theymos here

Also, the attacker was able to upload a PHP script and some other files to the avatars directory.

and at reddit

and here on the forum
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=306878.msg3290091#msg3290091

unsure if that was the final determination however. its a bit off topic though but still interesting

Also loading an animated avatar might affect the loading speed of the forum whenever we will visit multiple thread.
I believe that's a plausible reason theymos disabled animated avatars.
