Sorry dear people for the Late reply i was wage slaving, i really do appreciate the Advices given to quit Cigarettes ! Now its only up to me... Thanks guys Smiley

First you start to smoke to be cool.
Then you recognize smoking isn't really cool.
Then you actually quit.
Then you finally ARE cool.

So put that way, smoking makes you kinda cool, but first you have to quit it Cool

isnt that kinda like being one of those artists who become cool and famous only after theyre dead?

much rather be uncool and wish id never started.

vaping can both make it easier and harder to quit cigs. easier because, unlike a cig, it wont stay lit till its done (cigs add chemicals to keep it burning, contrast that with a cigar with no chemicals.. it goes out when you leave it). so, light a cig and you pretty much are forced to smoke the whole thing as its gonna burn down to the filter anyway. plus it coats everything with that nice orange gunk.. (smokers just look at your computer innards and fans.. eeeew man mine were soooo disgusting).

vaping. press the button, inhale or once or twice, put it back in your pocket nice and neat, done. and those subzero mods can put out clouds of vapour of sizes that you have to see to believe. and no ash, no ashtrays that stink, no orange coating in the rooms etc. of course theres maintenance - cleaning, replacing seals, coils etc. but thats was actually an attraction to me.. kinda calming doing coils maintenance and whatnot.

[...]

I'm against smoking in general, but the way you describe vaping makes me want to try it. I see colleagues and friends with these vaping machines that look so high-tech, like some kind of weapon that came out of an alien ship or something. OLED displays, coil resistances, wattage, energy reserves.  Cheesy

yeah they have upgradable firmware, you can choose the ramp up/down current on hits (gives nice smooth hits instead of hitting you like a 2x4), automatically calculate wattage needed for particular coil types and ohms, all that stuff. counts hits, takes 2 seconds to replace the batteries, flip top fills. etc. still will help kill ya though.

The issue with the serial # is that unlike an iPhone or a car, the serial # is just a sticker that can be easily removed and switched on a typical GPU. I actually had the serial # sticker fall off some of my mining GPUs in the past due to heat.

Don't know why they didn't make the serial # more robust instead of a simple sticker. Basically some stickers are tamper proof and they tear if you try and remove it, the GPU stickers are not that.

So even if you wrote down the #. Someone could easily just swap the stickers and you won't know which GPU you got.

ive heard some make a inconspicuous mark somewhere on the board and document it so they know if its really theirs if returned.

Any advice on how to stop Smoking Cigarettes?  Grin

Don't light the next one.

That's more or less how I quit. I realized quitting isn't an action, smoking is.

To smoke you have to acquire a cigarette and a source of fire. Then you have to ignite the lighter or match. Then you have to light the cigarette. Then you have to inhale the smoke. Those are all actions you have to take to smoke a cigarette.

To "quit", just do nothing.

In other words:

Every time you put out a cigarette, you've already quit. Just don't start again. It's that easy.

vaping can both make it easier and harder to quit cigs. easier because, unlike a cig, it wont stay lit till its done (cigs add chemicals to keep it burning, contrast that with a cigar with no chemicals.. it goes out when you leave it). so, light a cig and you pretty much are forced to smoke the whole thing as its gonna burn down to the filter anyway. plus it coats everything with that nice orange gunk.. (smokers just look at your computer innards and fans.. eeeew man mine were soooo disgusting).

so vapes prolly safer than cigs as there are waaaay less chemicals but still harmful to the lungs.

so i switched to vaping years ago but still like that throat hit a good vape gives. and while theres zero nicotine juice, that throat hit isnt there.. the nicotine seems to be that thing that causes the hit, not the vapour. so still hooked on vaping nicotine. im a weak ass punk, i admit it.

but man no kidding who wants to become rich just to die early from something like smoking. plenty of others ways to risk an early death that are much more fun.

Just got shot 1  of pfizer vaccine.

Wish me luck.

i had my 1st shot (pfizer) already get my 2nd tomorrow.

i feel fine. although my phone now shows a 5G signal at 5 bars and theres no 5G tower withing a hundred miles of here. bonus!

edit. had a sore arm, slight chills and fatigue for a couple days. nothing that would prevent me from working or anything. good luck!
1187  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining on an APPLE II Computer! Highly Impractical Other Devices? Poll! on: April 14, 2021, 12:06:46 PM

oh boy gonna dig my c64 outta storage.

next one i wanna see mining is a timex-sinclair 1000 (ZX-81 for you Brits iirc)

or better yet a KIM-I

I see videos from one particular user on Youtube who shows how he's mining bitcoin on his Raspberry Pi, and IIRC he uses USB stick miners like the old block eruptor.

i had like 5 block erupters on a rpi via a hub and usb fans to cool em. worked fine.

Sometimes a bubble top hangs on just a tiny bit longer than your math can predict, but it is clear this-ish is the top.

just what value of "tiny" are you using?
1194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 13, 2021, 02:41:25 PM
Yes, I like to buy 'them ATHs, lol.

Same here, I'm always afraid to buy the dip but never scared of buying at ATH.

I must be a bit dumb.
since it works out either way over the long term both ways youre way ahead of the nocoiners.

price of admission to the bitcoin club is irreverent. just getting into the club is the important thing.

I'm in the same situation, my house is full of stuff, need somewhere to store it.

Just buy a second house.

That is one of the options I'm looking into.
I'm starting to not like my current house so much, the neighborhood has changed too much since I moved in 22 years ago. Back then it was a paradise of solitude and tranquility in the perfect environment. But unfortunately a millionaire bought the old farm across the street and built a whole complex of stables and a big equestrian facility with fans that's just loud enough to be irritating but not loud enough to be illegal. It used to be farmland with an old farm a bit up an old dirt driveway.

yeah. things have changed here too, the small town vibe is going fast. only thing keeping us here is the neighbors really. solid people. well, i also cant really put a dirt track on this land so theres that too.

Why did I need 1000 merits to level up? I don't understand the level system any more.

activity needed varies between like the high 800s to (maybe even just over?) 1000. i believe theymos said its pretty much random. thats if memory serves correctly.

for example  i made legendary in the lowish 900s iirc.

maybe the criteria has changed since, dunno

and congrats VB!

Personally I had 4 people I know die of this shit. I would say five, but B blew his brains out when he was sick enough that he needed to go to the hospital. So I guess that was a suicide. So far I seem to have no other effects from shot 1 other than feeling sleepy that afternoon and kind of punky the next day with arm hurting when I pressed on it till day 3.

i personally know one person who died of covid from my church. they had a family gathering. basically the whole family caught covid but just one died.

next week is my 2nd pfizer shot. 1st shot side effects were sore arm, mild headache and fatigue. cleared in a couple days.

people can do what they want but im with the science on this one. ive got comorbidities so ill let the deniers take the chance of long term organ system damage from catching covid.

couple of my friends will not get the shot. ive not tried to talk them into it aside from correcting some misinformation (like its a live virus thats injected etc). their choice. once im immunized we can hang out so it works out i guess. except for the part the virus now has willing hosts it can practice mutating in to become even better killers instead of dying.

To me the data is very relevant. It shows that altcoins easily get replaced with other alts and no one really believes in the true value of them (except for a very few perhaps) even when the crypto marketcap has tripled in value.
Picking successful alts out of a choice of 7000+ is like a lottery.
I'd rather stick with BTC.

around 2017/18 i "diversified" a few percent of my btc into some (at the time somewhat interesting) alts. , like 8 or 9 of them. of those probably 50% are gone now because they switched algos and/or tokens or whatever at some point, ie if you didnt swap your coins for the new ones they were lost (my fault for not paying attention of course). and a huge chunk of the rest cratered got desisted or trade at basically zero.

point it i NEVER had to do anything to keep my corn. addresses i made in 2011 still work. the coin is still there. and i will never need to move those coins to some new format or lose them (well maybe when quantum computer are common).

point is btc is STABLE. i have confidence in just parking corn in a wallet and leaving it for years or decades. with no worries

that, aside from the tech etc, is the real power and value behind bitcoin.
1200  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 07, 2021, 11:20:56 AM

That's the dilemma even if you commit not to sell any large amount but a small to sell at "high" and buy back "low"...  you don't know when this will happen.... I have to confess here that when this year BTC hit $40k i did thought of selling "some" ... but I did not (thanks God) and however later sold "some" at $54k and $53k... just to buy back later.. i never cashed it out... but now I have been waiting since then to buy it back

in the past i have cashed out at price points thats were "good enough" as in you never do know when honey badger will decide to dig a crater, just for fun, and spend week or months playing down there. so i cash out enough for a couple years maybe, plus some extra. i spread the sell out over some weeks or months to minimize noise.

the extra. if the price does down generally rebuy with it.

my goal is to ride out the "who the hell REALLY knows where the price will be" parts in relative comfort. 70% crash for months? *yawn* 100% rise? sweet! just means whatever corn i might have left is worth even more.

thats staid i have left profit on the table at times. but in my goals and plans, redundancy and safety is a big factor. sit back and relax is my gig.
