your dreaming if you think bfl will have the liquidity to do such a thing if that were to happen

Well if bASIC ships before BFL gets their ASIC products out the door, there are likely to be a whole mess of cancelled orders...orders that will end up going somewhere.

there was a set of three wire plate holders at walmart I believe for like 10 bucks similar to these http://www.walmart.com/ip/Honey-Can-Do-Stackable-Kitchen-Shelving-Organizer-Rack-16-x-10/20519594 they are three differerent sizes ones a little too small. Thats what I used until I upgraded to this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-4-Shelf-Ventilated-Shelving-Unit/16517557 Which holds 6 rigs just fine with room for switches on top. Then all you need is some large cable ties

but even if you don't end up mining buy a better power supply, you will thank yourself. I remember my first build with a quality power supply. I couldn't believe how much more stable a system operated. Corsair and rosewill or both great choices, also seasonic, pc power and cooling as well. You will likely max out that 20 amp rail easily when gaming. As cheap power supplies reach their limit your 12v will likely drop to 11.5v or lower causing your system to crash.
204  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5830 has become unstable on: November 16, 2012, 05:11:37 PM
5830's have a way of running at extremely high clocks 1000 plus for a few months and then you will have to lower it until they cease to function at all. You may have to lower your gpu clock to 950 or even lower to get it stable again. Its why I don't recommend 5830's for anyone, as all of mine have failed, most within a year. In fact its the only video card model I have had fail mining, thus far. If you bought it used chances are the previous owner already noticed it on its way out.

If I remember right 5830 is the only card that runs at a higher voltage (usually 1.163v) with a (correct me if I'm wrong) 3 phase vrm. Most have a 4 phase or run at lower volts (1.088, 1.05) Its probably best to run a 5830 undervolted for a longer life but it may be too late for that

I think its funny you get mad at all the trolls spamming these forums. How it is any different from you spamming the forums with all your advertisements? Haven't you in a way brought this on yourselves?

You and about 400 other people, Garr...

Anyway, for the record, Bitsnpieces is Frizz23, aka CptNemo, aka about 20 other accounts on the BFL forums.  I'm sure he'll come back and say "No I'm not" - but since he is on a dynamic IP connection and he used the same IP on multiple accounts, it's highly unlikely that it was a different person.  Especially when the same type of posts are made by brand new accounts from the same IP block allocated to Frizz's ISP.  Frizz has migrated to using proxies now, but it's pretty easy to pick him out the minute he posts, since he can't conceal his writing style and odd turns of phrase that aren't very common.

So yes, Bitsnpieces was banned for having multiple accounts only to stir up trouble.
207  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ghetto Style AC unit. Custom Cooling Inc. on: November 11, 2012, 07:52:29 AM
well good luck with that then I wouldn't want the extra strain on mine or that high of an electric bill. All I know is from my experience 4000 watts plus another 60 or so amps for a 2 ton central a/c is about $550 a month here and that's at $0.08/kwh

4" exhaust? no way are you crazy? I used 4 walmart box fans, two windows open (one intake one exhaust to cool a little over 4000 watts of gpu's. for 5500 watts you would probably need a 1/8 hp 24" exhaust fan at least, with active cooling you would be looking at a 20000 btu a/c

I'm pretty sure I can make it work. It is running 24x7 stable right now with no exhaust and only a few house fans blowing air over them. The central A/C is doing most of the work.

The only reason I'm adding cooling is so that I can over clock & take a little bit of the load off the central A/C which is running almost 24/7. Temps are getting up to 75-80 though and I don't want to OC unless I can keep temps <75

I want to come back to your pool but I've been getting 5% or more stales for the last several months. I believe you said it was due to iocoin client. If so can you just disable it?

Well, I'm using a dryer circuit to power everything. So, I have a 4" dryer exhaust right there that would be really handy to use.

It's a rental property, so I'd rather not make any permanent modifications, and there aren't any windows near the the laundry area to put a bigger exhaust fan in.

I'm thinking a 4" exhaust is too little for ~5500 of power in a small enclosed space without something else to help with the temperatures.

I already have the water chiller laying around, so I'm leaning towards a water cooled intake rather than putting in an A/C unit.

Plus, water cooling is more efficient than an A/C, so I technically I will be able to cool more with a smaller power bill.
210  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Requests Input on: November 11, 2012, 03:02:09 AM
Why do you still believe bfl will release a fully custom asic. They think they are going to ship within a couple weeks of receiving their first chip. They more than likely are lying about either (a) having a full custom chip which also explains why they are being super secretive, or (b) are lying about shipping dates that are very far off to keep people from ordering from their competitors. I'm leaning towards them releasing an actual product eventually, which I wasn't even sure of before, and not an outright scam. But the idea of them releasing a fully custom chip that gets 1g/hash a watt with no prototype testing needed, no way!

Also if an asic chip is released by someone it will be mostly obsolete in a couple years

what about the notion that bBASIC and Avalon also push back their dates Shocked
Funny thing is....
Avalon actually had pushed their date forward to a sooner release date. From February/March 2013 to January 2013. (Did you get that punch line?)

I am not sure what the original date for shipments was for the  bASIC.

In BFL's defense, they are doing Full Custom so that may be why they are taking more time.
211  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: I RMA'd a 5830 and got back a 6790 on: November 09, 2012, 07:34:56 PM
no it was nonreference, the main problem is the one they sent me was about the size as a 5770, only it uses quite a bit more power so doesn't have adequate cooling, doesn't overclock, and is loud even at idle. now xfx did have a cheaper 5850 that had a small heatsink as well but mine wasn't that one

I had the same problem with xfx, RMA'd a 5850 and got back a 6870, which wasn't horrible but some benchmark tests it was slower some faster. But the new card has no fan control (just hardware 50% and 100%) no voltage control and the tinniest heat sink. So its loud and it runs at 86 degrees. XFX sucks

That's a pretty decent trade for everything other than mining, I'd say. Was the 5850 reference?

214  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 06, 2012, 06:49:11 PM
Well I think he just admitted that patrick should not have his liability decreased just as a robber would not, so he deserves the scammer tag. Now that that's settled, I'm wondering why Joel cares about bitcoin at all. The only way to have a totally secured loan is with a central bank, you could secure it with a car, home, precious metals, but all could collapse in price. So I guess bitcoin is doomed to fail.
215  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 06, 2012, 06:32:00 PM
The blame the victim mentality here is getting ridiculous. We don't blame women when they are raped so why do we blame people for getting thieved. Everyone takes risks in life they regret and misjudges others' characters, I'm sure even Joel has done it. It doesn't make them an immoral person
216  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 06, 2012, 06:23:58 PM
I did, so your saying that you shouldn't expect to be able to withdrawal your money from a bank anytime you want? You can easily look up the most popular us banks and see that they loan out your money 10 to 20 times their deposits, so they are just as risky if not more than Patrick. But you don't question being able to make a withdrawal from your checking account. By your ideas there wouldn't be any secured deposits with bitcoin as bitcoin won't ever have a "federal reserve". All investments have risks that's why banks make a profit is to calculate risks and remove them from the customer. Patrick basically said it was a secured loan, when he said he had money to cover it if pirate would fail.

Patrick was acting as a bank. Charging higher interests for loans vs paying deposits, with the assumptions that the difference would more than make up for defaults in the loans with a little profit left for him.
That's correct. However, don't forget that this assumption was shared by those who loaned money to him. Read the transcript.
217  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: November 06, 2012, 06:06:09 PM
No you probably won't ever see any asset information. In fact the whole thing was probably a setup with one of the major asset holders on glbse so they would never have to pay back their investors
I heard that little voice whispering "you are going to regret this" when I send back that double payment.

At this point I'm sure this was a mistake. Nefario won't send any asset information, won't he?

Just f***
218  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 06, 2012, 05:47:24 PM
Joel's arguments are really dumb. Patrick was acting as a bank. Charging higher interests for loans vs paying deposits, with the assumptions that the difference would more than make up for defaults in the loans with a little profit left for him. The fact that Patrick loaned out money to people who were investing in pirate is not anyone else's fault but Patrick's, he should have either been more careful with who he was loaning to or charged a higher interest rate. You don't expect your bank to pay you half of your usual percentage rate on a CD or savings account because more people foreclosed on their homes than the bank suspected?

Joel, your arguments are absurd.  If a seller agrees to sell 5000 pounds of cherries, but only delivers 4500 pounds, that is on him.  He either needs to make things right by delivering an additional 500 pounds, or renegotiate the contract (i.e., agree with the buyer to only sell 4500 pounds at a lower total price).

The contract in question with Patrick wasn't an agreement about "what to do with X number of bitcoins", it was an agreement whereby the buyer would give Patrick a particular number of bitcoins, and Patrick would "deliver" 1% per week back to the buyer, plus the principle at a certain date.  Just like an agreement where a seller agrees to deliver a particular number of pounds of cherries to the buyer.  It wasn't contingent upon whether Patrick's investments panned out or not.  If it did, the contract would have stated as much.  NOWHERE does Patrick and the other party agree that, if Patrick's investments default, then Patrick can default without giving his investors recourse.

Anyway, I'm done debating about this - we're just rehashing the same thing over and over.  I'll just say that your arguments are fairly silly, and would not hold up in any court of law.
219  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: November 05, 2012, 06:59:13 PM
Peltier coolers are best case approximately 60% efficient, its hard to find good numbers as there are so many variables involved. So you would need at least a 230 watt one to cool a gpu at all and almost tripling power usage and heat output. I tried to cool a 45 watt low power cpu with a 73 watt peltier and it failed to do so at full power.

Has anyone ever done a mini fridge rig, or an old school locker with air conditioning?  Maybe reading up on Peltier coolers would help a bit.

The amount of power required to cool a GPU with a TEC cooler would not be worth it in the long run unless you didn't pay for power.... But I think putting that money towards more GPU's would be more logical..

maybe if you have usd dollars there you might eventually see something, but if you only had btc which most people did as it paid more interest I guarantee you won't get anything
