thanks, ill double check the page file and version of windows. by the way, i said my windows is not activated so maybe its an old build? i dont want to shell out for an OS and i do not know how to use linux. I have seen somewhere else someone running on an unactivated copy of windows without any problems

Do yourself a favor and get an activated version. if you are broke you can get the assistive technologies upgrade for free. Even using the on-screen keyboard can be considered an assitive use, so go grab it now: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ALT hodl'ers vs BTC/ETH bulls - What to make of ALT's moving forward on: November 07, 2017, 05:28:56 AM
Curious to hear people's opinions regarding the rocket of BTC and the bear of Alt's. Do you think a correction is coming or do you think this is the event horizon for darwinism to cut through the ALT's and only bring a handful along for the rocket ride? Btc dip, dump, buy alts, hodl? btc for life? Alt hold and pray? Alt master strategy? Let's chat!

This by no means is a bear market for alts. Ethereum, Litecoin, Zcash and many other alts were trading below $20 at the beginning of the year and now they are trading for $300 (ETH), $220 (ZEC) and $55 (LTC). So even Litecoin the lowest of the bunch is 12x the price of its March 29, 2017 price of $4.37.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When the alts will up....? on: November 07, 2017, 05:20:47 AM
From personal experience they will go up right after you give up all hope and sell them off. Big players manipulate these markets and like to shake off weak hands before making their big moves. If everyone is expecting a coin to rise it is actually more profitable for them to move the market down, conversely once everyone is convinced it is going to tank you can often see it reverse course and make new highs.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anchoring my riser board on: November 07, 2017, 05:01:15 AM
I don't know where the post is, but I do remember reading some time ago about a guy who came up with a little clip to secure the mining riser board to the slot using a 3D printed part. He was selling the plans for a few dollars, and I believe he was even selling the clips. If you want to do it cheaply you could probably just use some electrical tape to secure it to the slot.

EDIT: Found a plan if you or a friend has access to a 3D pritner. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2627344
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where to keep Bitcoin at the safe place ? on: November 07, 2017, 04:43:58 AM
Well I would recommend to think on your own. Some people lost a decent amount of potential profit because they transfered their coins to their paprt wallets before the previous fork and were not able to trade it (while the ones who left funds on exchanges made some good money). So now they are saying that they gona keep BTC on exchanges. Imho this is still very risky and safey should come first but your risk management should be only your decision.

Depends on how much money you have really. If you have less than 1 BTC leaving it on an exchange is probably the best option to take advantage of any forks. If you have > 10 BTC, you might only want to leave 1 or 2 BTC on an exchange to trade with and keep the rest secured in a hardware or paper wallet. You can still access your forked coins later on, you will just need to transfer your stored coins to a new address than use the old private key to access your forked coins.
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BIT-COIN "GOLD" Pool.Gold Major Scam 2 week 1000k sols/sec redirected to Zcash/Z on: November 07, 2017, 04:16:06 AM
Lol man, its called a test network. Test means just that, it is for TESTING the code to make sure everything works properly before the main net launch. The coins are worthless so it really doesn't matter if they work or not at this point. I am sure before going live one of the final testnet reset will also allow testing proper payouts from pools, but even then the coins are worthless.

As far as the rest of your rant, you better check your tinfoil hat for holes as I think some of the alien mind control waves are leaking through it...

I also like the response you got by spamming up their github issues page:

Guys, I have tested the potato and you'll never guess what happened...

Really though, please share some results, as Za1n said. Right now this thread looks like bait without any real content.

The potato was, unfortunately, not good for mining. I microwaved it and ate it.

Yeah too bad, I was interested in hearing some valid results since it is basically 2x 16BG cards, I bet with Cryptonote it would rock. Of course the price would keep it out of reach for most.

Anyway I will leave with, Guys I tested the average IQ of this forum and you will never comprehend the results....
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Mining vs Buying on: November 07, 2017, 12:50:26 AM
I have a complete newbie question. I have $1000 to start and I'm looking at these 2 options to purchase Ethereum.

1. Just buy Ethereum at the open market. Price around $300

2. Buying a cloud mining contract from Genesis Mining
- 2 Years Ether Mining
- Price: $869
- $30 MH/s

Help me with the math. What is the best option.

Just buy Ethereum. Cloud contracts are dubious and there is a good chance you would not even get your money back with one. If you want to mine you would be better off building your own rig.
For $1,000 you could buy a single Nvidia GTX 1080Ti ($700) and a single Ethereum coin. Put the GPU into your current desktop and you will get more hashrate than the mining contract, plus you would have an Ethereum to hold.
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Tested pro duo professional 32 gb on: November 07, 2017, 12:41:11 AM
Guys, I have tested the pro duo professional 32 gb on ethereum...

And...? Some results would be nice to share. You should also test it (and post results) with Cryptonight, since that algorithm will benefit from more memory than would Ethereum (Ethash) or Equihash.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: gpu bubble well and truly bursting on: November 06, 2017, 05:10:55 AM
give  btc-gold a big run  and   gpus will sell out again.

I think a lot of people are hoping (counting) on that to happen. Mining is still profitable but it getting tighter every day.

GPUs are also still selling at premium prices. NewEgg has a MSI RX580 4GB Gaming on sale for $239, which is still about $50 higher than it was when it was introduced.

Need a few more months of quiet before GPU prices return to normal levels, so if BTC Gold shakes things up, I agree that prices will skyrocket again.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: flase hope on: November 06, 2017, 04:38:23 AM
Companies tend to exaggerate, happens all the time. Learn to manage your expectations.

This is very true. Even outside of the Crypto space companies tend to promise a lot more than they can deliver by bragging up the potential while downplaying the risks. You need to do a lot of research before investing in anything, Crypto related or not.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can someone explain this to me on: November 06, 2017, 03:12:34 AM
I have only been into crypto currencies for a few weeks so forgive me if my question is daft...
If bitcoin is at such an early stage in terms of taking over even a small percentage of the world monetary system, and yet it is having to fork to resolve technical issues, is there not a more efficient crypto currency out there that wouldn't have these problems?
For example, if vertcoin had to handle the same volume of transactions would it perform better?
With over 1200 crypto currencies out there I don't understand why bitcoin still dominates. Surely there are technically far superior solutions out there. I know it was the first one but does this alone warrant it being the most popular?

It isn't forks themselves that are the problems as much as some group of people try to take advantage of them. Think of a fork as a software patch, which essentially it it. Every time Microsoft release a patch or update for Windows it is essentially a fork. Some people may choose to stay on the original code for technical or other reasons, so there ends up being multiple forks out there of the OS. While it can be a nightmare for Microsoft to make sure new patches work with all previous iterations (thus why they now aggressively promote patching to the latest code) they still need to maintain backward compatibility as part of their support.

The only difference between bitcoin and Microsoft then is no one gets up in arms over a new Windows patch, nor do they attempt to hijack it and make a new OS of their own out of it. Of course this is a hypothetical example as Windows is proprietary and MS would sue you if you tried anything like this, but conceptually it is the same principle.
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Goldman Sachs CEO Warns Not To Dismiss Bitcoin on: November 05, 2017, 06:00:54 PM
Wise man Lloyd..

As the Bitcoin surpasses the Goldman Sachs Market Cap, their CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, warned skeptics not to dismiss the cryptocurrency...

http://www.tokenschedule.com/news/goldman-sachs-ceo-warns-not-dismiss-bitcoin/
That's rather very wise on his part, it's only a fool like Jamie Dimon who will continually belittle the competition and the ability of bitcoin in the first place. Bitcoins is here to stay and there is nothing that bankers can do to stop it.

Considering his station in life, I highly doubt Jamie Dimon is a fool. It is much more likely he was simply doing what he does best, namely playing head games with the real fools and trying to drive down the price to get in at a better postilion.
214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Overclocking with batchfile on: November 05, 2017, 05:44:52 PM

I want to run my GPUs with only 80% of their original power draw. Should I rather setup -powlim or -cvddc and - mvddc?

-powlim set power limit, from -50 to 50. If not specified, miner will not change power limit. You can also specify values for every card, for example "-powlim 20,-20,0,10".
Note: for NVIDIA cards this option is not supported.

-cvddc   set target GPU core voltage, multiplied by 1000. For example, "-cvddc 1050" means 1.05V. You can also specify values for every card, for example "-cvddc 900,950,1000,970". Supports latest AMD 4xx cards only in Windows.
Note: for NVIDIA cards this option is not supported.

-mvddc   set target GPU memory voltage, multiplied by 1000. For example, "-mvddc 1050" means 1.05V. You can also specify values for every card, for example "-mvddc 900,950,1000,970". Supports latest AMD 4xx cards only in Windows.
Note: for NVIDIA cards this option is not supported.

What's the difference between target GPU core voltage and memory voltage? I didn't do any voltage settings so far, I only worked with power limit in MSI afterburner so far

They are pretty self explanatory terms, GPU core voltage is for the actual GPU processor itself (the chip) and memory voltage is for the actual memory chips on-board the GPU.

Most of the time these will be set the same values as each other, but for advanced tweaking they can be set to different values with the one caveat that the memory voltage cannot be lower than the core voltage.

To adjust the power level with AMD cards, it is recommend to adjust the voltages. You can probably start safely with 950 for both the core and memory (which represents 950 mv or 0.095 V) and work slowly down from there until your GPUs hang or crash. Then add back another 20 mv and you should be close to the sweet spot as far as energy saving versus power consumption. For example say you make it down to 850 mv before the cards hang, then you would bump your settings to 870 mv and run that for awhile to test for stability. It basically will take some trial and error as each system and graphic card will be different as to how much undervolting it will tolerate.
215  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin new high 7500 USD on: November 05, 2017, 06:00:48 AM
While $7,500 is pretty nice I think most people are waiting for the big $10,000. Bitcoin first hit 4 digits way back in 2013, even though it subsequently went back to 3 digit territory for much of the following 3 years. So after breaking into 4 digits once again early this year, while nice it just doesn't provide the same euphoric feeling as will happen when we hit the new major milestone of the 5 digit barrier.
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BTG mining? on: November 05, 2017, 03:18:00 AM
Anyone plans to mine it or there is no future for this coin?

Hard to say, it will depend on the involvement of the community behind it. One part of me thinks oh wow, another bitcoin fork, how many of these are we going to have... The other part actually thinks bringing coins such as Bitcoin, or at least forks of it, back into the realm of GPU mining is a good idea. I really do not like the centralized nature of the proprietary Bitcoin ASICs, especially when only one major company can supply the majority of mining equipment and they are also a large miner.

With that all said, I do plan to participate in the initial mining of BTC Gold since it is fairly effortless to point a couple of Equihash miners toward a BTC Gold pool for a few days. I will need to see how it all pans out long-term though, as I expect for the first month or two we will see huge dumps at first due to all the people with free coins already.
217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BTG mining? on: November 05, 2017, 02:03:11 AM
It will be announced on the BTCGold website as well as their twitter and other channels. Their latest "daily" post was yesterday, which can be found here: https://bitcoingold.org/bitcoin-gold-daily-update-network-stable/

They are essentially waiting for the exchanges to check over their latest code for replay protection and get on-board, after which time they will make a launch date announcement for main-net mining (supposedly before the actual launch).
218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Overclocking with batchfile on: November 04, 2017, 05:10:59 AM
I want to overclock my RX 480 cards with the .bat file instead of using MSI Afterburner. I have several problems with Afterburner because I use the mining drivers and because I have 2 different GPU brands in my rig (2 XFX GTR with standard core clock 1388 and Powercolor Red Devil with standard core clock 1288) and the rig crashes when I OC different cards.
I found out that you can OC your GPU via the .bat file with this code:
EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool eu1.ethermine.org:4444 -ewal ETHEREUM_WALLET.WORKER_NAME -epsw x -tstop 85 -tt 65 -fanmin 60 -fanmax 100 -cclock 1200 -mclock 2250 -cvddc 850 -mvddc 850

I wonder if it's possible to set different overclocks for each card in the .bat file? Is there a guide on using the .bat file overclocking somewhere?

That line of code is used with the Claymore Ethereum miner and there is a ReadMe file inside its folder detailing each of the available commands.

To apply different settings to multiple cards, you simply separate the values for each card, so in your case with three cards with one of them being different, your batch file would look something like:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool eu1.ethermine.org:4444 -ewal ETHEREUM_WALLET.WORKER_NAME -epsw x -tstop 85 -tt 65 -fanmin 60 -fanmax 100 -cclock 1200,1200,1100 -mclock 2250,2250,2000 -cvddc 850,850,900 -mvddc 850,850,900

I simply used random values for the clocks and voltages to give you an idea as you would need to use your own unique values, but in my example above the last value in -cclock would be for GPU 2 (counting starts at 0 as in 0,1,2), same for the other values. Since you have 3 cards you need three values, if you had 6 cards you would need 6 values and so on.

Also for any settings that will be the same for all your cards, like the tstop, tt, fanmin and fanmax, you can leave it a single number. A single value behind a parameter indicates it will apply to all the cards. Again, if you want different settings for each different card you would put multiple values behind the parameter as well, one for each card.

So the basic premise is one value following a parameter applies to all GPUs and if you want to have different values for for each card you would need to have a separate value for as many GPUs as you have.

Dear followers of Bitcoin Gold project.
We are excited about the way the testnet is working.
On the second day we have applied changes about the starting difficulty, some more minor settings and restarted the network. Currently we have 57 operating nodes and more than 200 mined blocks. The network is stable and all of the transactions are executed.
We take advantage of the opportunity to thank to users, pools operators, wallets and exchanges that are helping with the development and the testnet progress.
All the received help is highly appreciated! Thanks for all of the support!
Bitcoin Gold community.

still nothing about mining

In the very link you posted they do say that mainnet mining will start once they have a few key pieces in place, namely working wallets/addresses and exchanges/pools configured with proper code for the mainnet coins. The post also indicated they would announce the launch date ahead of time. I am fine with this as it is better to have everything in lace than risk a possible rollback later on. As long as they don't pull a 3 AM ninja launch to try and quickly mine some more coins for themselves, I am fine with this proposed approach.

Next steps:

We are in touch with major exchanges and wallet providers that have asked for the replay protection and the unique address format in order to support us, follow their statements and start working on integration with Bitcoin Gold. So all the users can receive their funds without any  problems.
We will start planning the release of the main network very soon and will come up with release date as soon as we are ready to announce it.

220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SEC warns that celebrity cryptocurrency endorsements may be illegal on: November 03, 2017, 11:58:51 PM
This is a non issue and I do not have any problem with the law or their statement on it. It really is not that big of a deal for a celebrity promoting an ICO to have a little disclaimer somewhere stating that they are being paid. You see this all the time on commercials on TC, so I doubt it would really turn anyone off from investing in the ICO. Actually, if the celebrity disclosed they accepted their compensation in whatever token they were promoting it would probably help more than it would hurt.

BTW, I agree with an earlier poster that they should make a law requiring disclosure for compensation from bashing a product as well. You can make as much, or more, money by shorting it as you can pumping it.
