201  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Crypto exchanges comparison [trade fee + listing fee + age + mobile app + more!] on: January 21, 2020, 12:27:52 AM
The launch date on the second column may be misleading, as it doesn't tell anything about the history of the company.

If you consider Poloniex, it was the greatest exchange up to 2017, when its creator sold it to Circle. It changed owner again in 2019, and moved its HQ from Massachusetts to the Carribean, then to the Seychelles.

So the 2014 launch date is correct, but today's Poloniex is totally different from what it was 6 years ago.

Maybe it would be better to state the date when the company last changed hands? Great initiative, though.
202  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 'Why would I want 10 Ferraris, when I can help my people' on: January 17, 2020, 12:52:29 AM
Hey, let's consider the huge amount of money paid in tax to buy and register 10 Ferrari sports cars.
A fleet of 10 cars is also expensive to insure and service.

You don't help anyone by keeping your money in a bank, but you do a lot if you spend it on cars. I know that very well, I've spent big money on cars...
203  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex Data Leak on Twitter on: January 06, 2020, 11:05:41 PM

There is nothing at all on Poloniex's twitter acount about this at all:

https://twitter.com/Poloniex

It looks like this was a scam attempt - with the scammers then trying to persuade people that the email was real in this thread! So a double scam attempt.

Nope, the emails were real. Poloniex support reps confirmed. They ended up forcing customers to change their passwords: https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2020/01/02/cryptocurrency-exchange-poloniex-forces-change-passwords-data-leak-twitter/

They probably deleted the tweet to make it look like nothing happened, but plenty of wrong doing did take place, and that wasn't the first time at Poloniex.

They are literally backed by a huge wall street company, how are they letting something like this happen when they have trillions of dollars in their funds? Sure they are their own company as well but they are owned by Circle which is a multi billion dollar company and an app that is known all around the world and getting a big chunk of the market share as we speak and that company Circle? That is owned by Goldman Sachs (sort of, they own small part of it) which is the trillion dollar fund that I was talking about.

I understand hackers will hack things and even NASA has been hacked couple times now and people see it as a challenge at this point but honestly I would expect them to make their security better and at least save their customers information.

Stay informed! Circle almost killed Polonix because of their stupid management, and they've sold it. Poloniex is now owned by a secret owner hiding in the Seychelles.
204  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex revives unverified accounts on: December 30, 2019, 09:50:46 AM
Does anyone know whether they'll loosen up on radioactive nationalities like Iranians and Syrians? I assume almost certainly not but they could scrape up some business if they went full axis of evil.

As for myself nothing they've done has done anything other than incrementally reduce the faith I started with there in 20whatever it was. And since Justin Sun looks like a goosed phallus with a wig on, and also initially denied having anything to do with the sale, I'm gone for good.

Interesting description of Mr Sun.

Now, I'd like to point out that Poloniex is unverified.

Justin Sun has officially said that he fully trusts the management of Poloniex, whom he's a shareholder, but never acknowledges he was the largest shareholder, with full control of the company.

It's a possibility that Poloniex is now controlled by Iran. Or Al Qaida. Who knows? In the Seychelles, everything's hidden.
205  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex revives unverified accounts on: December 26, 2019, 11:27:49 AM
It may sound weird, but some people are attached to services such as Blockchain, Bitfinex, Bittrex, Poloniex, etc on a sentimental level. Time will tell whether or not that turns out to be a good decision. I think not.

Attached on a sentimental level, really?

I can't imagine that. If true, these people shall never manage their finances by themselves. You can invest with your gut, nothing wrong with that, but you must always be ready to reverse your judgment.
206  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex revives unverified accounts on: December 23, 2019, 11:37:49 AM
Isn't anyone thinking about safety here?

When Poloniex was in Massachusetts, with a known owner, they managed to steal money from their clients.
Now they're in Seychelles, in a small island in the middle of the ocean, far from everything, and we don't know who is the legitimate owner.

Does anyone with a sound mind thinks it's safe to store your BTC there?
207  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex revives unverified accounts on: December 22, 2019, 01:26:53 PM
Hmm, of course.
A shady location is the perfect place for shady business.

This doesn't help BTC. There are already plenty of folks saying that cryptos are used by terrorists, drug dealers and dirty businesses, Poloniex has chosen to side with that kind of people. It's another reason to stay away from that exchange if you want to play safe.
208  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex after 6 months shows no remorse nor guilt, Justin Sun? on: December 18, 2019, 10:41:07 PM
Circle have just gotten rid of their OTC service and it's been acquired by Kraken. I would've thought it was the only thing they've ever actually made money with.

https://blog.kraken.com/post/3355/kraken-otc-acquires-circle-trade/

Looks like good times are ahead. They're going to miss the boat doubly this time.

Yes, I can't understand what's Circle has been doing.
Those guys are the worst investors I know.
209  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchange with Margin Trading (lend usd/t) search for alternative for binance on: December 17, 2019, 10:58:09 AM
maybe you also need to see the Poloniex exchange, there is one of the best mangin exchanges ever. I still use it for margin trading. I like that in exchange there are many crypto choices that can be marginalized.

Stay out of Poloniex!

This exchange socializes losses among its customers, so you may end up losing your cryptos, even if you haven't done anything wrong.
More info about that on this topic.
210  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex after 6 months shows no remorse nor guilt, Justin Sun? on: December 14, 2019, 09:37:46 PM
You don't need to dig very far to see that Poloniex is obviously being used to prop up TRX.
Don't you need a decent exchange to do that? Give it a few more months and it'll be less than nowhere.

poloniex isn't that dead. remember, they are one of the only 10 "real volume" exchanges, according to bitwise. https://twitter.com/BitwiseInvest/status/1109114665240616962

among those 10 exchanges, they have the second biggest BTC/USDT market after binance. and their BTC/USDC market is actually marginally bigger than binance.

it's a shell of its former self in terms of total market share, but it's still one of the top exchanges. even after dumping USA traders they are still doing as much volume as bitstamp.

This is why I keep on writing about them. I just can't believe there are still plenty of people using that exchange. People are nuts or just ignorant. Maybe both.
211  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex after 6 months shows no remorse nor guilt, Justin Sun? on: December 12, 2019, 10:23:46 PM
I missed the subsequent headline: Despite Denials, Tron Founder Confirms Investment in Poloniex Crypto Exchange

He's obviously trying to distance himself from their managerial decisions. He tweeted this a few days ago:
Quote
Poloniex's decisions are made by the team independently. As a humble investor of Poloniex, I respect and support their decision.

It doesn't sound like appealing to him will go very far.

I'm quite surprised with this.
Because, if it's no longer Circle, nor Justin Sun, who is running Poloniex?

Now, from what I've read about Justin Sun, he's far from being a humble investor...

Circle is out of the picture entirely. Justin Sun's "Asian investment group" is running Poloniex now. All former obligations -- like the outstanding debt to bitcoin lenders -- falls on Polo Digital Assets, the Seychelles company. Although I don't think they actually consider it a debt or itemize it on their balance sheet that way. They've already written it off, I'm sure.

Justin Sun is probably not being forthright -- same as when he initially denied involvement. For all we know, he is the majority shareholder. We have no idea what the shareholder stakes in the new company really are.

Hmm... Strange.
I don't quite understand, except that gives another reason to avoid Poloniex.
If the new owner(s) is (are) straightforward, especially after what happened, they should reveal themselves, publishing their bios, with pics and Instagram accounts.
If they're hiding, and The Seychelles are well known for this, it will be easier than ever to steal money again from their customers.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do The Chinese Use Bitcoin To Get Pass Its Foreign Exchange Control? on: December 11, 2019, 09:42:15 PM
Of course, they do. Just as all the people who live in a country with stringent currency controls.
I would do it too, under those conditions.
213  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Greta Thunberg is the time's person of the year 2019 on: December 11, 2019, 09:40:30 PM
Very stupid!
Bad move from Time!
Don't we expect the person of the year to be some kind of an innovator, or at least to do or say new things?

Everything that Greta girl says, environmentalists all over the world have been saying if for years... Nothing new.
What I've yet to understand, though, is why are there people believing her than respected scientists.

215  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "California Plans FORCED Internment And Asset Seizure of the Homeless" on: December 10, 2019, 10:48:57 PM
I guess the solution isn't in California.

Housing is just too expensive there, and prices show no sign of going down, so homeless people could be helped to move to South Dakota, or maybe New Mexico where land is much cheaper.
216  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Are you a citizen of the world? on: December 10, 2019, 10:39:43 PM
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes

I sleep in hotels between 150 and 200 nights each year (well, cheap hotels in cheap countries, I'm no Donald Trump).
But I don't want to be a citizen of the world. Just human. Citizenship is meaningless at best, and stupid at worst, to my eyes.
217  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: France to launch their own cryptocurrency on: December 10, 2019, 10:35:24 PM
LOL!

An official French crypto! Judging by this country's current deficit, theirs unbalanced budgets for the last 40 years, and weekly strikes everywhere in France, you'd have to be mad to have faith in it.

It's good for BTC, though.
218  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex after 6 months shows no remorse nor guilt, Justin Sun? on: December 10, 2019, 10:21:58 PM
I know very well what happened to me, but I'm not complaining about my case anymore (my previous topic had that goal), what's wrong here, is that Poloniex keeps on going like nothing happened.

And things do not look like they will get any better for customers with that Chinese guy in charge.
219  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: People’s Bank of China Announces Test Program to Limit Cash Transactions on: December 06, 2019, 11:01:28 PM
Note that these are 2 totally distinct subjects.

Limiting cash transactions, which is happening nearly everywhere.

Launching a national digital currency.

Both give us every reason to be enthusiastic about BTC.
220  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your thoughts about Greta Thunberg on: December 06, 2019, 10:56:49 PM
I like to listen to scientists, but I hate listening to teenagers who think they know everything.
I have yet to understand how so many people are listening to her.
I do believe that climate change is real, I've seen it, but there are plenty of more qualified speakers about the subject.
