2021  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin-Qt Client - (out of sync) - 23 connections; 40 days and counting on: January 31, 2013, 03:28:15 PM
Everytime you start the client it will says out of sync, because it is downloading all the blocks. That's why the file grow. If you use the client once per day, it will have for example to download like 150 blocks.

Note that this is not an answer to GRogue, he seems to have a problem. As others said, use another client (electrum or multibit) or blockchain.info, no more messing with blockchain!
2022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Profitability of mining? on: January 31, 2013, 03:24:45 PM
Hello, please read some guides, mining is not a get rich quick scheme. And if you are considering mining with your processor, lol. You need at least a good ATI graphic card. And even with one, today you would make one bitcoin in like two weeks or so. But it is already too late, ASIC mining finally started, farewell GPU mining.
If you want bitcoins you have to buy them, and, indeed, that is what you are asking. And i don't know, sorry, but probably yes
2023  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-30 Is Bitcoin Sharia Compliant? on: January 31, 2013, 03:21:22 PM
Actually no, it isn't exactly an important question  Cheesy
2024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help!!! error loading blkindex.dat, tried to fix it but nothing worked! on: January 31, 2013, 03:14:49 PM
Use a lightweight client like multibit or electrum, no blockchain to update. (or at least hope that the new bitcoin client arrives quickly, i am testing it and it download the chain MUCH MUCH faster)

This said...

1)This error is related to the blockchain, sometime the database corrupt and as others said, you need to redownload it, that's why they suggest deleting everything...

2)...but this does not mean deleting wallet.dat! It is where your bitcoins are! Seriously, if you delete your wallet there isn't a lot we can do. And deleting it is not needed to fix the problem

The blkindex.dat and wallet.dat files are in appdata/roaming/bitcoin

Oh and redownloading the whole blockchain with the current client takes days (with the new one takes like 6-9 hours, much less but still a lot)
2025  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-30 Is Bitcoin Sharia Compliant? on: January 31, 2013, 01:23:18 PM
Cheesy I understand what you mean, and indeed, same here!

But i think that these rich saudis won't really care about that.  Wink
2026  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solo mining with bitcoin-qt on: January 31, 2013, 01:20:57 PM
You are right Foxpup!

Envite, note that the built-in miner is a CPU miner, nothing more. You cannot GPU mine with it. So, get cgminer like koin said.
2027  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-01-30 Is Bitcoin Sharia Compliant? on: January 31, 2013, 01:16:40 PM
Next up, is bitcoin mining compatible with leprechaun farming?
+1

I hope it is not religion-compliant! And that it is not fantasy-compliant. And that is not horror movie-compliant. And so on.
2028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Positive Bitcoin write-up on Zerohedge on: January 31, 2013, 12:58:47 PM
Don't they spend hundreds of billions in military each year?

Quote
all you got out of it was some bitcoins that cost you more to produce than the average miner.
Lol. What is not clear "their aim is to destroy bitcoin, not profit"

Quote
As I said you don't know much about govt. projects do you? You must be smoking drugs or something?

Is Gabi short for gabby, as in "run your mouth off"?
Lol, insults  Cheesy

Between military and private corporations, there are thousands of entities that can make such attack. Even soccer players have enough money for that!
2029  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC arrives with Chinese power chord, No paperwork or instructions. Fun! on: January 31, 2013, 12:49:46 PM
If you need paperwork or instructions then you should avoid mining.
2030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Positive Bitcoin write-up on Zerohedge on: January 30, 2013, 11:32:14 PM
And you don't know much about mining. The fact that you are citing supercomputers when speaking about mining is nonsense. Please tell me, how the 10Petabyte of hard disks and the 710terabytes of memory are needed for mining?  Huh and again, why should you build a supercomputer to mine?
2031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Positive Bitcoin write-up on Zerohedge on: January 30, 2013, 10:16:29 PM
Not 10? Meh, 20 are enough? Remember that a government/bank/company has billions. For us poor guys a million of dollars is a lot, but not for them.

Mkay, current mining hash is 21 Th. With 2 7950 you can make a gighash. 200$ per card, 400$. Add 300$ to complete the computer, It is 700$ per gigahash. You can buy 21Th for like 15 millions $ and it would be like 21000computers. 10500 if you put 4 cards in a computer. You can put them in some buildings, add some millions. Some more millions for the staff, and we have done a 51% attack  Smiley
2032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Positive Bitcoin write-up on Zerohedge on: January 30, 2013, 09:51:27 PM
Sorry notme but you are totally wrong. A 51% attack is not so hard to do. As i said, it is pretty easy, with 10 millions $ you can buy all the hardware, infrastructure and hire enuff people to do it. Keep to expand it? Beh, after such attack the mining power will decrease, not increase.

You guys speak about profit, but a government have other reasons to destroy bitcoin

IP blacklist
Please, not the IP ban fail in 2013, you will blacklist no one, it take an instant to get a new IP

He's talking about Bitcoin-Qt's rarely-used (and for good reason) built-in miner
It was removed more than a year ago if i remember well.

True, how they describe mining is one of the way i judge articles, if they start being geeky and nerdy and it is like "omg you can become rich with your computer" and "bitcoin is only about mining" when it is not needed then there is a great chance the article is fail  Cheesy
2036  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to earn transaction fees on: January 30, 2013, 09:10:22 PM
Miners get them. So unless you mine (in a pool wich pay the fees and don't keep them), you don't get them. "confirming" means finding blocks and put transactions in them
2037  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Solo mining with bitcoin-qt on: January 30, 2013, 08:41:12 PM
Of course it is possible, but...

Quote
I think I just need to start it with -gen option, is it that simple?
What? About what option are you speaking about?

To solo mine (bad idea anyway lol) you need to run qt as server

Not what you would call environmentally friendly.

I'll stick with Gold and Silver

Yeah because mining gold and silver is environmentally friendly?  Roll Eyes Aaahhh these trolls Cheesy

There are two problems with someone trying to take over the Bitcoin network:

1.) No one entity in the world has enough computing power to do it now. That chance has passed.
Lol? 10 millions $ and you have more than enuff computing power Roll Eyes

No one is here to convince you. Either you want to use bitcoin or you don't, your choice.
2040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you continue using Bitcoin if a evil governement/organisation join in on: January 30, 2013, 03:27:43 PM
Will you continue to use HTTP or SMTP if a government or other evil organization joins in?

Are acting retard or that really your nature ?

Using Http and smtp, don't make http or smtp worth more or less. Using BTC make it worth more, because there is a limited amount of these.
Are acting retard or that really your nature ?

If the whole world use Http and smtp then more investment are made for softwares that uses them and so on. So yes, using them make them more useful, since they are more supported. If no one use them, then why would someone make software for them?
