It's probably over for Lakers. If you look at the fixture you'll know they can't win most of these remaining games. In fact I'll be surprised if they get 4 wins in these 9 games. Only Rockets game look easy on paper. All other games are pretty hard or even for them. If Bron was back there could be some hope but in the current situation we can say that they have no chance.
For some reason, Lakers is talked about much more than other teams and the game they play in return is mediocre to say the least.
I think I might oppose that statement you gave because if the Lakers managed to defeat the Suns earlier, then I think they can probably manage to win most of the remaining games. It will be a tough challenge for sure but looking at the current roster now, they are much interesting to see especially now that AR15 is stepping up his game and contributing 30+ and 20+ point in their previous games. Long story short - this is going to be a useless fight for Canelo, that only his fans would watch. Real boxing fans are not much interested in this fight, as they expect nothing outstanding from it. Expect pressure from Canelo and a TKO in round 4-6. That is it. I don't think it will be a useless fight, yes it's a cherry-picked fight but the boxing community will still be interested but not to the point, of buying high prices for ringside or PPV, the media will watch and follow the development, and the actual fight if you're an undisputed champion and on a ring magazine people will still be interested to follow your career. Who knows Ryder can offer something and give Canelo a tough fight, boxing fans want action regardless of who's fighting. and boxing fans will watch boxing as long as it's popular boxers regardless of who they are fighting. Then I will ask a bit differently, if there will be two huge boxing fights running simultaneously or Canelo vs Ryder fight will be running parallel the sports/team you are fan of, will you rather watch Canelo vs Ryder fight or other sports event? I just read that Tristan Thompson has a work out with the Lakers this week. I guess he wasn’t kidding when he was talking about getting the band back together. It’s nice to see that he didn’t let Kyrie joining Dallas stop him from trying to join LeBron for another ring chase. I’m not sure if he can still play at a championship level but I think he’d be a good pickup at the price.
As far as I know, Thompson hasn't played in the league for a year now, and his stats last season were pretty mediocre, as he averaged just 6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. In other words, I wouldn't expect the Lakers to offer him a contract after this workout, as he's unlikely to be useful for them on the court. Besides, they already have Davis and a few other big guys who play the same position as Thompson. Yeah but this is right in the Lakers playback. They always do this and offers dudes like this a contract lol. It's last second sc4ambling and hoping a prayer is answered. Even if he was still decent this won't move the needle for them. Gotta give it to them they never stop trying these reclamation projects though. But the Lakers should know that this kind of gamble is much more risky than the advantage it can get, we all know that the Lakers doctor is already prohibiting Davis to play a back-to-back game but that's still situational as there as some games that they badly need his help but getting someone who is not that reliable will be a liability to the team. Later on, the Lakers will face the Suns on their own homecourt at LA and they might be having a slight advantage because Deandre Ayton won't be joining the team for the said game as well as Kevin Durant, as well know that he's not yet fit to play the games. Maybe Inoue is just too hyped, which is why we thought the odds were surprising, as we were expecting lower odds. But we forgot that Inoue is the challenger, and it's his first fight after moving up, so there's still some uncertainty about him beating the champ. Anyway, we can make our own speculations, and that will make the fight more interesting because lots of people are talking about it. It might be true or might be not, that depends. But now, this season they are healthy, on top of the standings, but seems to be having problems closing out the regular season. And we might say that they are choking right now, in my opinion.
Well, they are still 4 games above the 2nd seeded Kings, so maybe these is a strategy to them. I mean kind of they will not perform 100% on their remaining games, so that they will still have the energy when playoff comes. If they know that they will retain the 1st spot with a few games remaining, for sure their key players Jokic and Murray will sit in preparation for the upcoming playoffs. Currently, they lost 5 of their last 6 games and the only win that they got in that 6 game span was against the Pistons. They only have 11 games remaining, and it's a bit tough at least because on that 11 games, 7 of them are against teams above .500 (Warriors, Suns, Sixers, Bucks, Nets, Kings). TBH, I'm a bit worried on how the Nuggets are performing on their last games, but if they will manage to win majority of the remaining 11 games then I still think that they will retain that top spot in the West. I understand that the Nuggets have been very inconsistent, actually very poor in terms of performance. But they are still at the top. The problem is as you said they have a lot of hard opponents going forward. It is going to be really hard for them to win in the next 11 matches because we have to keep in mind that the current form of the team is not good. It is actually simple, they will have to perform better. Unless they are going down in the standings. Well, at least they are now back on track and won their game earlier but I'm still not that convinced that they are already back because what happened earlier is not that impressive to me. They could've got defeated by the Nets if they kept on making some mistakes especially in the last quarter when the Nets suddenly rallied while the Nuggets are somehow complacent because they owned the 1st 3 rounds of the game. Still not good, and for their last 10 games, they will be tested again by the heavy teams of the league. |

If Stephen Fulton loses against Naoya Inoue, it might not be good timing for him because Figueroa won recently vs. Mark Magsayo for the WBC featherweight interim championship. Fulton should win 1 fight in featherweight before he can argue for a challenge against Figueroa.
Has anyone created a thread for Murodjon Akhmadaliev vs. Marlon Tapales already? We should watch this next fight of Inoue's next opponent after Fulton hehehe.
There's no problem if Fulton lose in this fight, many people will not argue if there's a rematch Fulton vs Figueroa because Fulton have beat Figueroa on the last match, it's different if Figueroa was won, a rematch it's needed to see if Fulton win was a fluke or not. It's quite early to talk whether Fulton and Figueroa will pursue a rematch if Fulton will climb the next weight class, the way I see it, it's bound to happen especially if Figueroa can upset Vargas and be the new WBC champion. For now, let's just focus about this upcoming fight because I don't think it won't be a problem for Fulton if he loses in this bout because a defeat will stain his flawless record and depreciate his value. ^ With the fight hype like this, they would really want a rematch and Golden Boy wants its space for it. I think no matter who wins they will have a rematch. And If I would read between the lines here. They will deliberately set the fight just enough to make it fun and exciting yet also disappointing to consider a rematch.
Haha, you may have a point but i think deliberately making the fight enough to warrant for a rematch is a hard thing to do and we must not forget that Tank Davis' sentencing will be in May and he may be out for a year or more so the rematch would not happen very soon even if Ryan Garcia win the first. Have not read thoroughly the rehydration clause but i think Tank Davis is simulating the moves of Canelo Alvarez wherein he controlled his opponent's weight when they face in the ring, not a bad move but i think a coward act hehe. I just think that Davis doesn't want to give any advantage to Garcia simply as that, so he inserted the rehydration clause to make Garcia uncomfortable and indeed if he has problems making the 136 lbs and what more if he wants to rehydrate after the weigh in. Not sure who is Garcia's nutritionist, but she/he has a lot of things in the plate to ensure Garcia will not have an problem during the weigh in and rehydrate himself just 10 lbs before the fight. Well, apart from that, a rematch is highly unlikely to happen considering Tank's situation as he has an awaiting sentencing a month after the fight. That said, they will settle this fight once and for all because even if there will a hype, a rematch just cannot be done as soon as possible because of the stated scenario and then, I think there's no rematch clause in this fight. Not sure who is Garcia's nutritionist, but she/he has a lot of things in the plate to ensure Garcia will not have an problem during the weigh in and rehydrate himself just 10 lbs before the fight. Hopefully, whoever he or she is, it will be a big task for Ryan's nutritionist because this kind of clause is rare and then it's evident that Ryan is not perfectly suitable at 135 that is why a catchweight bout has been made. |
