2041  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: fanless 6850? on: September 15, 2011, 09:59:33 PM
I am sure it cools fine with gaming, desktop use etc. But I doubt it be able to mine at 100% gpu usage and not need additional cooling. At least thats if you dont mind running you card into the ground at 90-100 degrees

I get uncomfortable if any of my cards get much above 70 and I like to keep them in the 60s

Thanks for everyone that has responded so far, most of your businesses are posted at CoinConnect.org and we are growing. Thanks for your support!

I have a special project going on right now. I can't go much into detail right now - all I can say is it will be the FIRST TIME anyone has done anything like this in the history of Bitcoin. I am looking for Bitcoin Business owners who want to partner with me on this. If you are interested in getting a boat load of traffic to your site, raise awareness for Bitcoin and be a part of something big! Please PM ME, I need a couple of Bitcoin Business Partners who are serious about generating income, web site traffic, and interest in Bitcoin. Hope to hear from you!

2043  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned at congressional hearing. on: September 14, 2011, 05:01:11 PM

have you actually read this bill?

the bill was to allow open competition for the united states reserve.

What is this "united states reserve" you speak of?  The USA borrows money from the Federal Reserve, a private company.  The USA gave control of the dollar away to them 98 years ago.

Fundamentalists like Ron Paul say things that sound great, but in reality if someone like Ron Paul or Sarah Palin comes into power you better be independently wealthy or your going to be completely screwed.

So how do you think those two politicians are alike?  Never heard that comparison before, lol.   Ron Paul wants to make it harder for people to rob you.  How is that going to make you more screwed?  The only people that will "screw" is those that want to take your money by inflating the money supply and not letting you have any alternatives.

please elaborate on how ron paul wants to make it harder for people to rob me? I do not mind paying social security and medicare taxes because my mother is disabled after working her entire life and my grandmother is retired after working for 40 years. Both on social security, and I believe both of them deserve health insurance despite the fact that the only insurance they can afford is the kind they buy from the government (medicare)
2044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned at congressional hearing. on: September 14, 2011, 04:57:31 PM
I keep mentioning ron paul because he was the representative who submitted this lame duck bill.

Bitcoin is a global alternative currency that is useful in ways that traditional currencies are not and I do not see it as direct competitor to the Dollar or any other world currency.

and for the record I love my country and I do not support extremism in any shape or form.

It's obvious you have your own agenda and thats cool, I respect that but One fact you can't deny is that this bill will not pass.

2046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned at congressional hearing. on: September 14, 2011, 04:32:21 PM
don't get me wrong, I am not defending it at all. What I am saying is passing this wacky extremist bill is not going to do anything good for our economy, and I would bet you my entire Bitcoin wallet that it never does.

Can you explain how it would be bad for the economy? Also why do you use Bitcoin if you believe that undermining your country's currency is bad for the economy?

I agree with you, just want to point out that the Federal Reserve notes are not the country currency, they are the government currency.

If you do not believe in democracy at all then why do you live in our country?

the bill was to allow open competition for the united states reserve. Anyone can just start printing up their own money and using it. its madness and it would never work.

I use Bitcoin and I love it. I have been mining it before it got big, and I have used it to buy everything from computer hardware to domain names, but Bitcoin will never be the major currency of the USA and If you think that, or the only reason you are using Bitcoin is to (your own words) "undermine the countries currency" we are complete opposites. I think you can love Bitcoin and still be patriotic and Love the USA.

Fundamentalists like Ron Paul say things that sound great, but in reality if someone like Ron Paul or Sarah Palin comes into power you better be independently wealthy or your going to be completely screwed.

So you acknowledge that the dollar only has value because people are forced to use it. Why do you defend it then?

2049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned at congressional hearing. on: September 14, 2011, 02:48:56 PM
"Our money"? Some people are too high on Kool-Aid.

I really do not understand that comment. Can you elaborate please?

This "Free competition in currency act" will never pass.

Although it would be good for Bitcoin in some ways, it is a preposterous idea that would never work.

U.S. Federal Reserve Notes are backed more on our economics than on anything else, and if our government allows other "Free competition" it would basically make our money worthless. Our money is worth what it is because it is our money, and it does not take a genius to see that this kind of thing is really not in our country's best interest. Ron Paul only mentioned Bitcoin because it fits into his fundamentalist agenda. He is an extremist and although his small group of supporters are really loud and good at making themselves look big, when it comes down to it, they are a small group who carry little votes.

It will never pass because it would work.  It wouldn't make the US FRN worthless, it would simply expose the present reality.  The US FRN is already worthless.  It wouldn't be chosen by a market economy once the threat of force that 'legal tender' laws imply are removed.  Bitcoin would not likely be the dominate alternative, however.  Bitcoin exists in a niche because of coercive legal tender laws.  Digital gold or silver certs would almost certainly dominate.  There would be no practical reason for Bitcoin to exist.

I agree with you for the most part. our money (as in the "U.S. Federal Reserve Notes" which I am a U.S. citizen so thats why I referred to it as our money.) has value in the world economy because the USA is historically the strongest financial system ever. Our money is quite literally backed by our power and our economics and introducing government sanctioned competition would as you put it "Expose the reality". basically Our money is worth what it is because we say it is.

actually you can get the estimated next difficulty by going here:

http://blockexplorer.com/q/estimate

and anyone who follows the Bitcoin world closely can get a pretty good idea that difficulty has stabilized and wont go up again dramatically unless the values spike up really high again.
2052  Other / Politics & Society / Re: GOP Tea Party Debate: Audience Cheers, Says Society Should Let Uninsured Die on: September 13, 2011, 01:06:15 PM
He doesn't necessarily deserve to die (nor does he necessarily deserve to live), but it's immoral to steal from others to pay for his care.

steal from others? Are you serious?

I am very saddened by your response. We are human beings not animals, its not survival of the fittest and if you were in that situation you would be thinking differently.

If someone profits so greatly from our country, they start their own business and work there way up and become a millionaire or billionaire, they should not contribute something back to the country that helped make them who they are?

but it's ok for billion dollar a year corporations to destroy the earth, pay less taxes than some mother of 4 who works at walmart and get richer and richer off the backs of hard working lower / middle class Americans.

but if you get sick screw you right? go die right?

We are human beings, our country was founded by Christians. If we ever get to the point where we will refuse to show the love of Christ and refuse to take care of the disabled, and the old I will move.

The notion that you would rather let someone die than pay taxes to have health care for those who cant afford it is absolutely disgusting and revolting.

I also am finding this hard to believe that this is really DiabloD3d, it does not make sense, that he would issue a statement of this magnitude in this way.

This would be a major incident and it wouldn't be reported in such a short and easy way like this.

I would believe that his forum account is hacked. The hackers that did the CosbyCoin hack probably set this up in order to have some more of their fun down the road.
2054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 06:20:28 PM

But I accept it, because I believe Bitcoin is about freedom. Thank you for everyones posts I really appreciate all the great input.

Time for me to run talk to you gents later
2055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 06:17:19 PM
So does this mean we should be mining CosbyCoins now ?

Would you be so kind as to reread the previous 19 posts, then comment again without using a CosbyCoin reference?
thank you phinnaeus
isnt it great? as I am making my great point about the evils of the Newbie system some worm walks in and makes me think the newbie system should be stronger Sad
2056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 06:14:36 PM
What is wrong with the newbie system? It keeps out the already ridiculous amount of trolls.  I went through it, so did everyone here. If you are truly interested in bitcoin and don't want to post some spam it's fairly easy to get through and get on to the boards.

So you are saying you want MORE junk than is already here to automatically come through? This makes no sense.
There is no sense of elitism in properly filtering out spammers and 1 time posters.  Even with that system in place a lot of accounts get through that APPEAR to be here just to cause distress / arguments and not contribute much.

I don't even hold that many bitcoins - I just am 100% behind the idea of it - or the next level of it. Bitcoins represent true financial freedom and that is a good thing - even though it is not 100% - it's a damn good step in the right direction.

I appreciate your feedback, but just FYI, I did not go through the newbie system that is a fairly new thing, but I am glad you brought that up. My problem is with the Bitcoin forums being presented/perceived as the heart of the Bitcoin world, because with the newbie system from that point of view looks like we are making people earn their way into the Bitcoin world which should not be so. As my friends have already pointed out above - we need to change this perception, the Bitcoin forums are not Bitcoin and it is perfectly acceptable to make people earn their way into a forum, but the unfortunate truth is the forums are seen by many as the heart and soul of Bitcoin.
2057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 05:52:54 PM
You said all, is what I always wanted to talk, and I believe many people think the same.

It's time to change if we want the Bitcoin win the world, these attitudes have to be different.

Many Brazilians are afraid to enter the forum, and be attacked for asking newbie questions, this has to end.

thank you for that comment, this is the kind of stuff that needs to be talked about.
Just curious, why the title [Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here!] and not [Bitcoin is Closed! - For most people this is what they think and feel!]?

It got your attention didn't it? Smiley
Besides the Forum <> Bitcoin observation, think about the endgame: everyone everywhere uses Bitcoin. Are we going to sit around being excited about it? Are we all going to have one big conversation? Will it all be on one forum? Of course not. We aren't there yet, but the process of wide use and the distribution of the conversation is already begun.

I really really loved this place a year ago. And it only 'sucks' now because it was completely successful.

I understand what your saying. However it's pretty obvious due to many reasons Bitcoin is stuck in a rut right now and I believe this is the perfect time to seize the moment and rise above all of this.
2058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 05:49:08 PM
thank you so much to everyone that responded.
Immanuel I am not insulting your newbie system, I understand why it's in place and its like a lesser of two evils type of thing to me, Im not criticizing you for it at all. I really respect the mods and admins of this forum.

and to johnj: I think anyone can do something to benefit bitcoin, even if you have to post a comment on facebook, or twitter, or even tell everyone you know. Heck if anyone wants to benefit Bitcoin but does not know what to do send them my way. I run two Bitcoin related websites, which are both free sites with the sole purpose of spreading Bitcoin to the outside world, and I need help generating content and doing all kinds of stuff.

I must say if anyone ever writes a book about Bitcoin this should be the foreword: !!! Smiley thanks for this evoorhees
this was awesome!

Thanks for your post, OP. Some good sentiment there and I fully encourage the optimistic tone.

My thoughts on this are as follows: Bitcoin is not just a new weird geeky technology. Bitcoin is not the new tablet, or 3D tv, or server protocol. Bitcoin is in fact a philosophic and economic phenomenon which drastically challenges existing systems of thought and social behavior, internationally. It cuts to the core of how humans operate in the world, and the ramifications of Bitcoin--if it succeeds--will be truly profound. It is a system of highly leveraged effect. New people will get rich, new people will get poor, structures will shift, and various opportunities will rise and fall for various people. It sounds cliche, but Bitcoin has the potential to fundamentally change the course of history and this is awe-inspiring to some, threatening to others, and unbelievable to most.

Because of this leveraged effect, Bitcoin will long be highly contentious. And while we should encourage optimism and community spirit, we should at the same time realize that the external pressure bearing down upon Bitcoin will be immense. We should expect the conflict and tumult.

Stay civil, stay mature, stay humble, and stay rational. Bitcoin kicks serious ass, and I think most of us know this.

very well said. To everyone else its nice to hear from others what I have already been thinking.  I think the most apt statement that I have heard from many of you is the Bitcoin forums are not Bitcoin. That is an excellent point, but one we really have to think about. Some how these forums became the name and face of Bitcoin and we really need to rise above just these forums in order to move forward. It's hard to put a label on what this has become but the forums have become the lifeblood of the Bitcoin community and although this is the launching pad we have somehow found ourselves defined as well as limited by it. Look at that thread someone started "What did you do while the forums where down" Its pathetic almost to think how small this amazing scene really is - that one forum has so much impact on so many people. I read somewhere that there are 400k users on this forum. Wow. In any case I thank you all for your input it really got me thinking and put a smile on my face.

2059  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Contributors-only forum. on: September 12, 2011, 04:06:48 PM
hehehe

Getting out the riff raff is a term, meaning getting out undesirable people.

For instance in poker, someone will Bet a high bet to "Get out the riff raff" or cause the undesirable players to fold their hands.

and I really do not want to quote individuals right now, I am trying to have a less confrontational day right now. Please disregard me from this point in the conversation I really never meant to try and attack you and put down your idea. I realized I was using your thread to express my own agenda (bitcoins agenda) and it did not have much to do with you particularly so I moved it Smiley

good luck
2060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is Closed. If you were cool enough you would already be here! on: September 12, 2011, 04:02:40 PM
Hey there,

I can see from your writing, that you have Bitcoins best intentions at heart and you want to see it grow. I do agree with you that the forums are not what they used to be, but I think theres a major flaw in your point

Forums != Bitcoin

Why? Because your focusing on only these forums for your perspective.
I just spent the past 2 days at OVC11 conference in nyc presenting, advocating, and discussing bitcoin and the future.
The overwhelming outsider turnout mixed in the amazing, 'wow' factor and ideas that came out of the meetings showed me that Bitcoin is moving past these forums.

Our jobs are to take bitcoin mainstream, and I am doing everything I can to make that happen. After meeting with mainstream businesses, lawyers and other bitcoin business owners, we have big plans coming your way very soon.

The forums do not define Bitcoin, neither should you.

BITCOIN IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS BABY!!

+1!

I agree completely, and it is very refreshing to hear this type of talk. Thank you. Smiley
